Some folks just have to be negative to nice people! I’ve learned a lot from you and have implemented a lot for my small family. Thanks for sharing yourselves with us ♥️♥️♥️

    In our family also I grew up with my parents having a sizeable pantry, root cellar, four freezers, and our basement to store canned foods. I lived on a working farm and stores were so far away. Everything we ate was home made. When I married I only knew about baking and buying to put away in case something happens. On the other hand my husband didnt understand until I taught him. By no means are you a hoarder. This is a working pantry and go to place. When I have to stock up, I go to my food storage to pull food. Then I keep a log with what is needed and used. Now days we are alot older and there are times our kids go shopping at our house lol. Its there to use. It works yet one has to know how to prep and use. For me its natural. Thanks Kimmi for sharing with others to educate how this works. 😊

    It’s just smart to shop the sales. Knowing that grocery stores have sales that cycle 8-12 weeks, I purchase items that we use On Sale and I get what my family will need to last 12 weeks until that sale comes back around. This means I will purchase 12 weeks worth of this cereal, that mustard, those pickles ...to last us 12 weeks (on average) and this is how you can save up to 40% on your grocery budget without ever clipping a coupon. Add coupons and digital coupons and deals for even more savings. When I run out of that item I just shop my pantry and if I run out all together I know that sale is not far off where I’ll stock up again. It just makes financial sense and I’m quite happy to keep that extra savings in my own pocket and not the stores. This has helped us greatly when Covid hit and I didn’t want to go out as much.

      Yep, exactly what I do. I'm getting green beans for $.50 a can right now and it's really the only canned veggie we eat. About two more cases and I'm set for the next year. Also, google the annual sales. Every month has sales on certain items. March is the annual freezer sales and great deals then. www.inspiringsavings.com/shopping-the-sale-cycles-guide/

      @@kristenevans4557 Yeah, I'm in Montana and there are a few here that blog. I usually spend winters in Virginia and Georgia the last few years, which I'm not this year, easier to be in the wilds of Montana than in Marietta, GA in a pandemic. However, we get some seriously great deals on potatoes in September going to local Montana farms, great apples too. I used to get a 100 lb box of potatoes for like $10 and they kept in the basement. There were 7 of us at that time. Only 3 of us left if the two kids are here, they do a lot of stuff away from home. I did can about 40 lbs in October for fried potatoes for the ones still here. First time I've canned them. It's working out well. I'm diabetic and done with that nonsense for the most part though.

    Living in Ontario Canada we are use to eating and shopping seasonally as well as always having a stocked up pantry for the long winter months...snow storms, frigid weather, power outages, dangerous driving etc.., Is all part of life and this year has also showed us that we are living in uncertain times. I am a 55 year old old empty nester, living in a very small disability check...but I try to meal prep, shop and buy things on sale and always have extra in my pantry.... Beans, rice, flour baking items etc... I dehydrated over the summer when fruits and veggies were extremely cheap, bought in bulk and vacuumed sealed items, used Mylar bags for grains, flour etc... Bought a bread maker( my lupus and arthritis make it hard to use my hands) just basically did a little at a time... Dollar stores are great for paper products, spices, toiletries, bags etc... Great video Kimmie....thank you for helping people to not panick, just do a bit at a time and be a little more prepared. 🇨🇦🇨🇦

    Thank you for your help and support. I have been working with my daughter and 3 teenage grandkids on building our short term storage. We are on a limited budget, but she has learned this year just how much it means to have a backup. By increasing our buying just a little every grocery haul we are doing so much better. This is the first year that we not only are eating healthier and less processed meals, but also have been able to not go to the food bank in order to make it thru the month. We have been getting together to make menu and meal plans, inventory our pantry, and buy smarter. We have homeschooled for the past 2 years and that was a great time to adjust to the goals we chose as a family. We have been "laying low and keeping our distance" since before the pandemic, which made it so much easier. Bless you and your family.

You put the bed frame, each of the four feet, into a riser and you have just doubled the number of storage totes you can fit under! I get the storage boxes from Walmart, the longer ones (about $9.88) and two stack under the bed on top of each other! I can fit six totes under each bed.

Earlier this year I felt God leading us to start preparing more for our family's needs. We bought a freezer, joined Sam's Club and Covid hit. I love when you post video's like this. I am a huge advocate for food storage and preparedness. I have been trying to encourage family and friends to do this. I have a good amount of food stored. And just a week ago when I was putting some stuff away in my kitchen pantry I had the prompting to fill my pantry as full as I could with food as well. I was blown away at that prompting because I know I have a good amount of food. But, I definitely follow President Monson's advice to never postpone a prompting. I know I have a lot but I just slowly add more as my budget allows. Plus I don't go super crazy at the store because I know others need it too. But, I also don't have to since I have been doing this for years. The earthquake we had in the Salt Lake Valley this past march also got me in gear to prep my medicines (over the counter) hygiene products, laundry soaps and such, house hold cleaners which now I have a good amount. Next is emergency equipment. Everything I do I have done in order of importance to me. And I am so grateful to Heavenly Father because he has guided every step along the way. And I am super grateful that you are doing your part in teaching all of us and inspiring all of us to continue to work on preparedness. You are definitely a light in so many of our lives!

    Kimmy, I would love a follow up video showing what you learned during your no grocery store time. What did you go through quicker than you thought and what were you left with a lot of? I haven't stepped foot inside a grocery store since March. I do a pickup order once a week and alternate between my local grocery store, Walmart, and Sam's. I've actually been able to stock up even doing pickup orders. For example, every Walmart pickup order I purchase a 6 pack of toilet paper. If I need ranch dressing, I'll buy 1 to use now and 2 for my food storage. I try to only spend about $20 each week on stock up items and it adds up quick. So glad I have those packs of toilet paper now that I see it's running low again. And if any family or friends need some I'm glad to be in a position to help them as well.

Winter's also coming and try as they might, the weather experts don't always get it right and things (blizzards, ice storms, etc.) pop up. Medical crises also come unexpectedly (also been through that :( ) Personally, I just hate to grocery shop so I stock up because of that. Keep up the great work young lady. This is so necessary in our society today. Every faith and every household should teach food storage. In United States we have food lines that span miles long. What if those people practiced food storage? what a blessing it would be now in there time of need. Thank you for enlightening us and teaching us this valuable skillset.

    My father taught us all how to do this growing up. He had a whole room that he called "our store" which was our storage room. He lived through the depression and thought that this was a great idea so no one would ever go hungry. We also helped those less fortunate. Don't forget to rotate your stock. My husband and I do this and probably could live for one year from our storage and freezer. We do not have any "fresh" foods except what we have in our fridge. We have seen so many empty grocery store shelves during this pandemic on the news and in person. We have given food to our adult children and grandchildren so that they could feed their family. God bless.

    Thanks to your videos on food storage I spent the last few months building our food storage. My husband thought I went crazy. We live in a small apartment and I made room in our walk in closet that doesn't have any heat so it gets cold in there. One day he went into the walk in closet came out and told me there's food in the closet.. 😂 In August and September every time we went to Costco I bought peanut butter, my husband complained we would have too much peanut butter. So I stopped getting him peanut butter. The other day he said he was out of peanut butter, I was going to Costco anyway and I couldn't find peanut butter. I felt like saying this is why I wanted to stock up, but I didn't. I went to our local grocery store and got him a large jar. The same store has peanut butter on sale this week so I'll get him more. I've been able to reduce our weekly grocery bill. So thank you!

    I think you are doing well and I’m doing the same thing. I have always had a little extra and cook out of my pantry, but I added to get through the winter. To many unknowns. Better to have and be all set, rather then need and can’t get, just because it is not available, shipping issues, farm to store to consumers, or loss of job. Never mind if any of us got sick. I also keep loved ones and friend/neighbors in mind. You never know when someone may need a little help and this way we have a little extra we could share, or make a meal and drop of to someone who needs it. Be well, stay safe.

    Basically in the most indirect way she made this video.. put herself out there because she knows things could get hard and she is hoping to inspire as many of you as possible to start building your food storage so your family doesn’t have to go hungry. She obviously understands not everyone has the money. There is places that give food boxes. You can build your pantry that way and spend $5-$10 a month per check whatever you can afford and buy grains. The dollar store has 2lbs of rice for a dollar, a pound of beans for a dollar, oatmeal. Nobody is saying go spend thousands now! Store them in air tight containers. Glass or food grade buckets whatever your budget allows. I re use the glass jars my pasta sauce comes in. I store rice, beans, sugar, flour, pasta.

    • @teresadoyle1396
      @teresadoyle1396 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a number of food grade buckets from the bakery dept. at my local grocery store for free, just ask them. Some may charge a small fee but some don’t. I was able to get two sizes and now have my flour, sugars, rice and beans packed up and ready for winter. A great idea for those of us on a tight budget.
      Stay well everyone.

    I really appreciate the bit at the end. The covid relief free food giveaways have really saved my family this year. I do have a job, so I'm not able to make it to my local food banks hours. Earlier this year we were cut from three incomes to just me for our house of 4. Stress really set in hard for me especially when I made the least amount of money and was already not doing so hot financially. Right before the shutdown in March I started losing my ability to walk. I was already struggling to make it to my desk every day and being sent home to work remotely was actually a blessing for me. I was able to schedule in my physical therapy, and I'm not back to walking for 10+ minutes at a time with no pain. I'm able to stand again without having to sit after 2 minutes. The covid shutdown has both helped and hindered me personally. Physical therapy comes with a hefty price which frankly seems unfair 😂 the people and resources that have been offered during this time of food insecurity are super valuable, and we couldn't have gotten this far without them

    Random tip: If you have a stand mixer, try making your own brown sugar. It’s just white sugar and molasses. You can find the “proper” ratio online - I just eye ball it. It’s really easy and tastes great.
    Edit: I usually make about 5 cups at a time and store in an airtight container.

    • @laurahirsche3673

      This works well and molasses and sugar have a very long shelf life. And I eyeball it too!

    • @baillysmom
      @baillysmom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For some this makes sense, but I have never found it to be less expensive for what molasses cost me. I keep molasses for homemade BBQ sauce but it is less expensive for me to buy the brown sugar.

    • @annajackson2239
      @annajackson2239 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baillysmom how much is molasses in your area? The molasses I use is ~$3.24 for 12 ounces. It makes a lot of brown sugar for me; whereas, a 2lb bag of brown sugar is ~$1.62 where I live. It does work out cheaper for me to make my own, but others should definitely weigh the cost first and see which works out cheaper. Homemade BBQ sauce sounds good too. I’ve never thought to try that!

    • @baillysmom
      @baillysmom 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@annajackson2239 around 5 to 6 for the same size jar. So I save it to make my bbq sauce. I can buy brown sugar for about $4 (maybe a bit less) for 8 pounds. It would be less if I bought in larger quantities, but this size works for us.

    I really got motivated years ago, when I saw your first food storage room tour. It seemed like, all the others I saw online were all home canned goods, bulk items for long term, or massive coupon stockpiles, that were unattainable, for regular people. Yours was "normal". More the way, I had always shopped, just a little extra. I really appreciate this video, I would only suggest, you not stop buying in general. We are seeing so many food shortages across the country, that it would be awful, to have to dip into long term, unless you absolutely have to.

  • @MamaKatsHome
    @MamaKatsHome 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This may be unpopular but I believe as wives and mothers it is our responsibility to take care of our families. To me, that means keeping a good stock of food, household goods, toiletries, and any other supply we might need. We never know when there might be a job loss, natural disaster, and now the possibility of the country shutting down again. Don't ever let anyone make you feel anxious or hurt you because you are doing what God has put you here for. I know your husband and mine as well are helping with all of the things we do, I know you don't know what all I do but it is similar to you if you looked at my grocery hauls on my channel you would see lol. I even have videos scheduled about vacuum sealing, without a vacuum sealer for part of it. In the end, we are the housewives and keepers of the home. That means we keep what we can afford in our homes for hard times. We keep our children fed and clothes. We keep medical things on hand that we can. We learn skills to help in every situation we feel we may face. We don't clear shelves, we don't buy more than our share, we have enough to help others in our family that aren't quite as prepared if we find they are in need. We are the keepers of our homes and if someone else doesn't like how we keep our homes they don't have to visit. I know that sounds harsh but we have to take care of our families. I love you and thank you for your prayers and you are in mine.

    I am a "prepper" of sorts as well. When the country closed back in March, I had supplies for my small family. We didn't need much. We moved in October and again I used up a lot of what we had in the pantry so we didn't have to move it. It saved money so we could buy things for the new house. Taking care of our families is a good thing. I like these videos and I'm glad you share with us.
