My favorites from Phish in 2024. From Mexico to MSG. Songs of the Year Fuego • Phish - 8/18/2024 - Fu... Simple • Phish - 7/27/2024 - Si... Soul Planet • Phish - 8/4/2024 - Sou...
I'd definitely say that Alpine Simple took the cake for me. That entire night was the most fun I had at a show this year. A bit of an attendance bias, though I listned to those top 5 jams you mentioned many times and they were stellar too. 2024 was a spectacular year to graduate school and see these guys.
That Simple was incredible and I personally feel that the crowd and band went into that sweet-spot of existing as a singular entity. You can hear everyone several times throughout the jam. It was astonishing.
The St.Louis run sticks out for me. No specific reason off the top of my head. I just remember being very happy with those shows. Mexico Chalkdust was definitely jam of the year. Kaboom 👊
Went to 19 shows this year and despite all the hate NYE is in my top 3 shit was epic! Put that 2nd set on repeat bro you know that MFMF Sand delivers the goods.
Another year of FZappa20 😊 Here’s hoping for another year of Phish every year I think it’s their last but they keep going 🎉Happy New Year Kev/Mary and the cats What’s the time you stop saying that to people by the way 😂??!! Love 🫶 you fans of FZappa20 Chompers of the world united!!
I believe that the MSG hood was probably my favorite jam of the year. And I really do think that this is their best year since 2021. You knew it was gonna be a good year when they ended 2023 to go into 2024 with Gamehendge. See you soon. Boom!👊
It may be attendance bias, but I think the Alpine Simple was the best jam overall. It just covered so much ground sonically, and the way they brought the jam back for a final Simple verse was excellent. I could also see the Mexico Chalkdust taking that spot though for similar reasons.
@Wook_Wookerson I'm not sure if you made it to the United Center in '23, but I'm almost certain that could easily become the midwests MSG if they went for it. It would be perfect year round, but especially a great pick for spring/fall. The energy of the crowd in that place was unparalleled. 2024 was without a doubt an awesome year man.
@ I didn’t make it to Chicago but went to Dayton both nights between Billy Midwest runs that year. I prefer the smaller college basketball size field houses over arenas all day. Crazy in 1 year difference I saw BMFS play at a way smaller than Dayton indoor minor league hockey rooms and now he’s playing at whatever the biggest arena those cities offer now. Not sure how he got a 5x capacity bump in smaller markets like KC and Salt lake but now he’s big league.
@ but honestly phish could play anywhere for fall tour and I’m in. So much a better vibe than summer sweat fest sheds. Just don’t think they have the market to play arenas in Midwest besides Chicago and Nashville to be honest. Although I’d take a 4 dicks and 2-3 late winter Pepsi arena Denver. Pepsi- united chicago- Nashville could be a every year Midwest thing and I’d be there for every show
MEAP *was* played this summer. Set 1 closer at Mohegan 7/24 - check it out! It was my favorite MEAP up until that point (special shoutout to CK5 as the light show for that song that night was incredible). I felt that's where they finally fulfilled its potential as a premier set one closer; and then they did it 3 more times throughout the year. If WGTYM (played five times this year) is in contention for SOTY, then MEAP can't be overlooked as it was played four times this year!
Lol, I have no clue how you do this. I don't couch tour, so I have trouble just with what I saw. Caught the first two nights of Alpine which were my favorite I saw. Looked at the two Sphere Setlists I saw, and I was like those look pretty good. My previous show though at MSG set the bar pretty high and dare I say, a little too much going on. Then I looked back at Albany, and I thought those weren't too shabby. Regardless, Alpine for me. 3 Nights of Dead & Co was fun and going again in April since no clue when I'll be able to see Phish next.
Strong year for new stuff. I thought Pillow Jets had a great year. Life Saving Gun, Monsters. How many bands their age make anything new worth listening to. Kudos to Phish.
As always, excellent commentary, you covered everything well. Although no mention of Dicks at all made me think you just forgot it maybe? 8/31 S2 😊 Jam of the year was ghost > soul planet, I was there too and that was so sick. Being there for Billy was amazing, 2 guitar southern rock phish was just one of those things you don’t expect in Michigan. Many relistens Songs of the Year: New- WGTYM Old- MFMF awesome, unexpected Honorable Mentions: Life Saving Gun - I had big hopes, I think WGTYM stole a little from LSG, but it still progressed Chalkdust - Mexico and some greats jams in summer, + the drop at NYE
Ruby Waves is at the top of the list of song of the year for me. Chalk Dust, My Friend My Friend, & Kill Devil Falls were in the next tier. Deer Creek was the best run of the year. I thought Alpine was meh. I hit Alpine, St. Louis, Deer Creek, Grand Rapids, Mondegreen, & Dick’s. The only shows I didn’t watch/listen to were Bethel.
Good recap of the year -- I certainly agree it was a good year for Phish. What is truly amazing -- is they they are, arguably, at the top of their game after 40 years!!!!
Dicks was not on your best run list? Criminal my man! Criminal! Also! You didn't even mention mondegreen? However, I really appreciate that you put mexico in your list. Doesn't matter if mexico has that stink on it because those shows were straight up fire.
I believe I had Monde 8/15 as one of my favorite shows? And the Monde Fuego as one of the best songs of the summer. I probably should have mentioned Dick's even if it wasn't my favorite. Thanks for watching!!
Magnaball was nice. A few deer creeks. But the majority of anything post cypress is mediocre. Maybe it’s just all the new songs are boring… maybe it’s just the fact that Trey needs drugs to be good. But fuck it, I still listen. I don’t do Taylor swift or Jason kelce’s talk show.
The FZappa20 Rig Rundown video was the best of 2024
I'd definitely say that Alpine Simple took the cake for me. That entire night was the most fun I had at a show this year. A bit of an attendance bias, though I listned to those top 5 jams you mentioned many times and they were stellar too. 2024 was a spectacular year to graduate school and see these guys.
The roar of the crowd during that simple.... Just wow! That was amazing

The Sphere run was incredible.

I think you loved the STL run cause its my hometown 😅
@danz6173 Probably some influence there. 😆 🤣
@@spuddougherty7860 preparing for a huge winter storm here in saint louis. Predicting 6 to 8 inches then ICE 🥶
ST. LOU-EEZER! Best jam of year by far
@danz6173 Be safe brother. Ice is the part that gets sketchy as far as power lines and tree limbs. It's not gonna make it down here.
Went to 19 shows this year and despite all the hate NYE is in my top 3 shit was epic! Put that 2nd set on repeat bro you know that MFMF Sand delivers the goods.
Good year

St. Louis Tweezer was badass 🔥 40+ minutes 💥
The Simple at Alpine. Whew...

Alpine Valley was best run. Best played. Great songs. 2024 was Alpine Valley favorite .
Best song... Contact.
STL was standout but the whole Alpine>STL> Deer Creek leg was the move! More Midwest love in ‘25 pls 🙏☀️🌻

Lucky enough to be at the Phil show; night 1 of Albany was my first ever show and was very special .
Alpine always the best run of tour cause I'm always there. And if I didn't hit all the nights it's always the ones I went to that shined.
Atleast you’re being humble
The second set of N3 at DC was legendary.
Good takes Kev. Happy 2025, boom 💥
Love this. Thanks, Kev.
Cheers happy new year.
I think there is only a need for 4 mind repeats and not 8+. I dig the jam. But that is a point of opinion
Secret set takes the cake for me. DWD From monde also. Man oh man that jam.
Am I crazy or does he just never acknowledge any of Mondegreen? DWD > Tweezer from Mondegreen was incredible
Saturday night crushed front to back.
WGTYM is a super cool song. I wish they/Tom wrote more lyrics like that. So creative. Paints colorful images on my brain

Ruby Waves was definitely in contention for mvp this year
The Mexico run is the run I relisten to most.
Strong year for new stuff. I thought Pillow Jets had a great year. Life Saving Gun, Monsters. How many bands their age make anything new worth listening to. Kudos to Phish.
Another vote for the Alpine simple! Runner up the mondegreen secret set.
DC Soul Planet was a dance party.
As always, excellent commentary, you covered everything well. Although no mention of Dicks at all made me think you just forgot it maybe? 8/31 S2 😊
Jam of the year was ghost > soul planet, I was there too and that was so sick.
Being there for Billy was amazing, 2 guitar southern rock phish was just one of those things you don’t expect in Michigan. Many relistens
Songs of the Year:
New- WGTYM
Old- MFMF awesome, unexpected
Honorable Mentions:
Life Saving Gun - I had big hopes, I think WGTYM stole a little from LSG, but it still progressed
Chalkdust - Mexico and some greats jams in summer, + the drop at NYE
I did have Dick's on my notes. Dick's Saturday was one of my favorites, but I went with Mansfield overall as one of my favorite runs.
@@FZappa20 I need to go back and re: Mansfield I guess, it probably got buried in all the Phish
Mull>46 Days from Mexico…so cool.
As a type 1 kinda guy the Bethel 46 days was my fave of the 5 shows i attended live this year. Didnt couch tour much
My Friend My Friend seemed.like it was the song of the year IMHO....
My 6 year old son has been randomly singing this publicly and private.
Moonage Daydream and Simple from Alpine...and Fzappa, of course!! 🙂
The divided sky from alpine.
Time to do some strategic re-listening starting with a creek binge and then maybe the sphere
Bethel Aug 10 Sand was my favorite
I saw Sphere night 4, and the Deer Creek run. Favorite was the DWD 2nd set night 2 of Deer Creek
Wave of Hope from Mexico!!!
It was very good!
Albany Monsters, Trey's Machine Gun moment!
Taste from Sphere was ridiculous
Home venue is Best 🎉
Mondegreen night 2, set 2. Probably a "you had to be there" moment.
Yessir!
I vote for Mike for MVP
I second that
I third that
Ruby Waves is at the top of the list of song of the year for me.
Chalk Dust, My Friend My Friend, & Kill Devil Falls were in the next tier.
Deer Creek was the best run of the year.

Im hoping thatvit continues into 2025
Down With Disease 4/21 Sphere
Bethel was not a bad run ever. Each night had its moments for sure.
He keeps just listing songs, and he forgot about Sphere
Were you expecting me to play my favorite songs? No, I didn't forget Sphere, I almost did
Bethel was great as was the Grand rapids Gin
Bethel N1. Piper Jets
Disease at Sphere
Albany ???
Dicks was not on your best run list? Criminal my man! Criminal! Also! You didn't even mention mondegreen? However, I really appreciate that you put mexico in your list. Doesn't matter if mexico has that stink on it because those shows were straight up fire.

@@FZappa20 Totally fair man. The monde Fuego was indeed great but the sunday show bummed me out overall.
Bethel bag and the billy sit in.
It's hard to judge something if you're not there in person
Attendance bias is strong. You really can't judge it if you're there
Shocked to see no Dicks mention....two very good shows, and two completely lights out shows.
Trey was pretty drug free in the early 90s
@ no he wasn’t. LSD and weed and booze are drugs too
I'm pretty sure Trey was drug free in the 70's which was no easy feat.
Honestly , the secret set jam at mondegreen was the worst thing they did all year .
Also, do you think after jay z Brooklyn Trey did a diddy party? And did Gordo film it?
Damn, Kenny woke up and chose violence today lolol
Nah Gordo was making balloon animals for the kids.😂
