Billy is a legend here in the UK.Its very unlikely that yourself or any other podcasters will ever interview a more experienced, down to Earth, or more likable member of 22SAS..The amount of military skills Billy must have acrued in 30 yrs is mind blowing. Setting themsleles on fire, dangling about on strings, hitting their heads off walls turned into wandering about lost in the desert, hitchhiking from locals and generally being totally unemployable as soldiers in any army, but the public laps it up. Notice their obsession with proxy self aggrandisement and bragging about being drunk as though it's a test they passed like a fifteen-year-old. John Urwin explains the SAS psyop very well. What they should do is get them to find Madeline McCann! i can just picture them shouting through letter boxes, "Maddie!"
Excellent talk. I'm ex Royal Air Force who used to be based at RAF Brize Norton in Oxford where the Para's and SAS do their parachute training. You could easily recognise SAS guys as they were the only ones who'd walk around camp without any head dress on, days of growth on their chin and not get shouted at by the station warrant officer! lol Nothing but the utmost respect for these guys. They just quietly do what they do.
As Dale Comstock, Delta says, "the unit is not always looking for the best man, it's looking for the right man" Makes perfect sense based on what Billy said.

When Billy mentioned that school wasn't for him but the cadets was, just shows that if kids like him could be sent to some kind of military Academy at a young age like you are in the United States, but for free then we would have far less problems with our kids.
Big respect for not interrupting Billy when in flow - nothing worse when your listening to a story then the interviewer butts in with a stupid comment and disrupting the flow of the interview - well done. Billy is a legend and a great ambassador for young people struggling to what can be achieved in life.
I can recall back in late 1960's being visited by bearded soldiers invited home by my dad who's a special branch police sub-inspector during the Confrontation in Borneo. My dad told me later they were commandos who he interpreted for in their intelligence gathering to determine location of the Indonesian forces. My late dad has huge admirations for those guys. It was only decades later I deduce they might have been SAS after reading books written by Ex SAS where they have included accounts of their incursion in the border areas of Sarawak/Kalimantan. Much respect to the British Military especially the SAS.
Billy is in a small bracket of bad ass operators, seen it all done it all.. I don't watch reality TV but I'll never slag the programme off because Billy is part of it.. proud you served the country i love for so long in the shadows, treading where very few would dare..thanks mucker.
Just watched the USA series with Billy, it was very cool seeing the peoples characters develop, one person that reached the end was most surprising in their level of strength to succeed. Didn’t know about the charity, that’s good people. Quite moving what his daughter said glad they got that sorted.

The best one I've seen. He's an absolute LEGEND. He's just how I thought he would be, a proper SAS soldier, hard as nails. I understand we cant know the exact details of Billys jobs but I would love to know some of what he's done, seen and heard

Great night, but to come down to the bar area in the interval, and have a selfie, sign merch ect, was amazing for One of the most Decorated Elite SF Operators, was just shows how down to earth this guy is. Professional on the highest level, in all area's, Great Video.

At 1:16:11 the Operation he is talking about is both Operation Lightwater and Operation Ney 3. It was called the Christian Peacemaker hostage crisis in 2006 Iraq en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Peacemaker_hostage_crisis B Squadron conducted about 44 raids, day and night trying to find any info about the hostages, and eventually found them.
This is one of the greates interviews of Billy Billingham I have seen. Good questions, and the host lets Mr. Billingham talk. He is such an amazing story teller. I thought "Wow, 1hr 45min, thats looong" and here I am, thinking "What, already over? But I want to hear more!" Awesome. I really liked the "Nike Squadron". 1:10:25 Also, the Hotel California story was really intense. 1:37:08
Not in the same class by miles. However I can relate to all he says ,starting at childhood, and selecting different roll models on my journey. I’ve sent this to my grandson, as parents don’t administer tuff love. To prepare boys to be men. Well done being a listener mate. And not interrupting.
As a Brit I'm so proud of guys like this and it does make you feel safer to know guys like this are on the wall doing over watch and keeping not just us brits safe but the whole world and yes there is a lot of seriously bad people in the world but without guys like Billy it would be a bell of a lot worse so thank you to Billy for his service and thank you to the thousands and thousands of service men and women for risking their lives to keep the rest of us safe total respect
My battalion was on build up training for Afghan when 7/7 happened, we were put on 12hr then 24hr notice to b deployed into London,fortunately/unfortunately it never happened at that time.
Top to this interview Ryan! Enjoyed the hell listening to Billy's backstory on his childhood and finding his identity. At the first part of the Belize story I lost it laughing! Great! Overall kickbutt career. "Hats Off" to the future of his continued career and the Charity Foundation!

I did “P Company” not as a para but from the Royal Signals. It was the most gruelling time of my army career. For other units apart from the paras it lasts for weeks. Of 60+ starters only 12 of us got through the course. We then went onto parachute training and on my 4th jump of 8 I tore the tendons in my lower leg. I expected to recover and complete my jumps, but during an interview I was told I would have to complete “P Company” again. I was really angry, and decided I wouldn’t put myself through that purgatory again, so that was the end of my para ambitions.
My dad was in the Royal Engineers Billy. He went to Hawaii, Borneo, Malaya, Singapore, Hong Kong, Christmas island (Operation Dominic) His army career was ended in Aden, when he was shot in the stomach. I wonder if our dads knew each other Billy? My dads nickname was Paddy.
Great interview Ryan with such a mentor as like Billy Billingham is. His background which he talks about could of gone down one or two ways...and he chose the military. Such an amazing laid-back bloke who has in my opinion is an exceptional person and soldier. Love your show mate.

Very interesting interview. Not the big ‘I am’ but an honest guy trying to be an give good advice to kids and older people that with a positive attitude you can achieve better things. Well worth watching. Thank you.
He did it because his ex wife entered into a same sex relationship so he did it out of spite, he died in his cell not suspicious, billy hasn’t spoken to his brother in 20 years prior
@@pauljones8218 Read 'Immediate Action' by Andy McNnab, he speaks about his tours of Northern Ireland and his SAS selection, you will get some idea in that. He also wrote the book 'Bravo 2 Zero' which is another good book. Even if you hate reading you will like both books. You won't find much on tv to be honest. The closest on tv or movies is the film 50 dead man walking about an IRA informer, which has some similar insights and is based on the book also, not SAS though, but similar
I’ve always said this when the SAS who dares wins started on channel 4, Billy should be the lead instructor….this guy is the real deal, his experience compared to the other lads….is leagues above…proper sound bloke as well

They interviewed a mate of mine for the lead role (he's an ex SBS Sgt) but he didn't get it because his Sunderland accent is practically unintelligible to anyone born any further than 15 miles from the river Wear! I'm gutted as the 2 Yanks are totally hopeless.

I was part of E/2/13 for my basic training; my platoon was known as the Black Sheep. So nice to hear our elite British counterparts share the tradition of monikers and characterizations of our fellows😊😎

Good interview. On the tv show, Rudy is a nice guy, comes over well and has personality to carry/front it. That said, why couldn’t they get an SAS , SBS person for it ? Annoys me he wasn’t tier 1 SF and his career was only a few years.
I can’t imagine the pain of getting through P company and SAS selection.Most of these men are carrear soldiers for years before attempting selection fit young men in their prime 80 per cent fail after years of military discipline training fail SAS selection that is.I can identify with Billy the teenage Billy was me the cadets the boxing having nothing.I got accepted for the junior leaders ended up in a detention centre before I could start training for theiving.Nearly 5 decades ago now I’m delighted Billy shares his story warts and all he could easily have buried his past but shares his life narrative to encourage help lost juveniles.
Guy is a legend. So humble. This is what a real man sounds like.

I was part of E/2/13 for my basic training; my platoon was known as the Black Sheep. So nice to hear our elite British counterparts share the tradition of monikers and characterizations of our fellows😊😎

Good interview. On the tv show, Rudy is a nice guy, comes over well and has personality to carry/front it. That said, why couldn’t they get an SAS , SBS person for it ? Annoys me he wasn’t tier 1 SF and his career was only a few years.
I watch loads of stuff on TH-cam, but this has been the most interesting 1:45 min I've seen 👏👏

I can’t imagine the pain of getting through P company and SAS selection.Most of these men are carrear soldiers for years before attempting selection fit young men in their prime 80 per cent fail after years of military discipline training fail SAS selection that is.I can identify with Billy the teenage Billy was me the cadets the boxing having nothing.I got accepted for the junior leaders ended up in a detention centre before I could start training for theiving.Nearly 5 decades ago now I’m delighted Billy shares his story warts and all he could easily have buried his past but shares his life narrative to encourage help lost juveniles.
