Phil Campion could no doubt be a standup comedian!🤣🤣What a guy, after everything he went through as a kid to still be this force of giddy optimism and have a great career is simply excellent! Top episode!💯
Phil was my cop commander for 2 years, best 2 years of my military career...It was an absolute honour to serve with Phil before his well deserved SAS Legendary Status.... Proper Legend and Top Geezer......bless up...
Phil Campion is the epitome of an SAS Blade, just like all the other guys who have passesd and served in its ranks through the years. And so people know ,Phil also earned his Green beret having done the "AACC"All arms commando course. Also, his Maroon beret ,having passed P-Company!? And the most famous of all Special forces selection worldwide,he also earned his SAS sandy beret and blue stable belt. Passing all three of the hardest training's in the British military and considered some of the hardest training out of any military, worldwide? What Phil done is known as the Holy Trinity in the British army. Many have passed all three, but not as many as people think though!? British "O.G".
@nickjohnson710 Don't know their pass rate for the SAS/SBS, but one of the Regiments that have got a high pass rate for sending lads is 59 Commando Royal Engineers now "24 Commando" R.E. Dean Stott and Ant Middleton are just two who served with them, but it would have been 59 Commando at the time.
@barryhamilton7845 Dude......I've heard 22SAS guys say the mountain leaders course is tougher than selection......these aren't my words but people who have done both
@barryhamilton7845 plus I'm not talking about that......I'm talking about the Mountain Leaders course ? Why are you bringing other things into it......?
@nickjohnson710 I'm not talking about specialist training like the M.L ,I'm talking standard training like P-company. You could say the Path finders is another hard one aswell,as is SRR selection.
Really enjoy hearing Phil. became aware of him years back as a talking head on a documentary. Seeing him on forces radio looks like he's found a second calling.
Awesome interview. Wish it was longer. Im American and been a fan of Phils a long time. He seems like he would be a cool guy to have a beer with tons of stories and laughs
Phil is a stud. What a fella!!! Ex-SAS, but doesn't show it off, very humble and self deprecating which is a rare quality in folks these days - funny and I am sure a great laugh at a party, although I would not want to mess with him even today , as "those SAS guys, they're real badasses..." (from First Blood re Green Berets...). Hard as nails back when he was at Credenhill... I bet.. .
This dude is a badass and loved working with the Brits and him in a firefight making a proper tea. I worked contracting in Afghanistan and many of us would head to Pattaya Thailand on R & R which was crazy. I would have hate to see him get pissed off in a bar. Legend!
There are People who know and appreciate everything you SF guys have done and continue to do and all veterans who have served . Great interview, Thanks again Phil …..
I’m a father of a 11 month old son who’s currently running around smiling and playing with the curtains. Seeing these stories from these amazing people is heartbreaking with their childhoods. My goal as a father is to never let my son experience what these amazing people experienced. Sorry if it’s a bit left field comment.
I'm so Proud that he's one of us a True down to earth fella we love Big Phil he's doing a good job after everything he sacrificed through and going to war good & bad and all the awesome achievements after that Thank you Great Podcast we love you Big Phil your are Legend.....🙏🫶🇬🇧
I met 'Big@ Phil. in Whitehall London on a march for NI veterans on a good friday. Top top bloke who is an absolute UNIT for a man. But such a gentleman to boot. Had a photo with him that day. What a legend.
Despicable that this man’s adopted parents failed him so badly. Whomever vetted that family, whatever agency they worked for owe that man some sort of compensation for failing such a vulnerable child. They had one job!
I can relate to some of what Phil says pre SF. I too was in Cop in NI combat medic and patrol photographer, 1989 Scots guards. Phils easy to listen to and no BS, tells it like it is, a man's man. 😊
I never understood why people gave a toss about these pretend interrogations. Phil sums it up perfectly. "You're not going to make me pregnant and you're not going to kill me". After all they had been through how could guys quit at this stage?
Whenever you normally watch sf interviews its always very serious with much daring do, whenever I watch big Phil I'm peeing myself laughing, the man is a walking morale boost
im only a third way through watching and listening to him.. What an ambassador for UKSF. Brilliant street wise down to earth operator. Proper character. Typical H.
Philosophy, monkey see, monkey do. Phil’s a absolute legend and top geezer. Shame he didn’t mention the pirate mission and the cold drinks fridge, he’s just got a true talent for telling stories in a way that just makes you laugh.
Big Phil, the man! Love that cat. He lives it like most wish they could, wish they would. He and his Squaddie mate Frankie Oatway are 2 of the topper most of the popper most, (in Beatle speak, hip Fab gear), the latter I've heard stories by that would level you and they don't even disclose the real deal bang bang n such. Thank you for hosting Big Phil and if you were interested in Mr Oatway, I can talk to him for you, no promises ( out of respect to all of you) but, I don't want to steal Mr Campions thunder here, just putting it to you in case. It's total class to incorporate our cousin operators from across the drink like this and I thank you guys for doing so. God bless / 6 In - 6 Out.
Yeah this man is an sas legend but don't mistake his humour & kindness for weakness he's a very hard man & been in hundreds of combat situations his biography is brilliant right up there next to Billy Billingham 👏
I've only read that book about it but it's obvious loads of stuff had been left out. I think we can all imagine what those animals were doing to the captives. You can't trust a book that won't even call the WSNs by their real name. But still, sounded like one hell of a mission. Kind regards.
@@goodyeoman4534 Can admit I’ve seen and know that some of the Nirish lads got Arse Graped. Poor guys. I would have rather fought to the death than have that fate
Didn't know Phil was on the Stansted hostage operation. That's two operations I know off, that he has been on. With SAS legend Colin McClaughlan. The second being Operation Barras.
They give MBE,OBE to people that have been a credit to they're industry. Surely this guy and many of our military guys and girls deserve much more credit than a Gary Lineker.
Can't picture big Phil sitting in the cockpit of a Green Goddess fire engine?! 😂😂😂 These things were that bad I think they had WOODEN ladders ffs!!! 😅😅😂😂
Watch all your and Phils podcasts. Glad force radio is going wellfor Phil, he deserves some success after being shafted by the media people. I always used to like his tv stuff. Oh and I always felt he spokenfor the common man when interviewed and didnt come across badly.
I'm sure he's gutted or regrets getting booted or i mean buying himself out,as he knew his actions whilst being in the SAS he was causing himself problems which they didn't like ,so leaving at that particular time when the SAS was just about to start or take their part on the war on terror. He mentions in another interview that he got out at the start of September 2001 and then a week or so later the twin towers get attacked. So something tells me, he regrets missing out on that chapter of the SAS spe ding years over there between Iraq and Afghanistan as im sure Phil would have been in the thick of it ,and would have done his job to the best of his ability as he was a top bloke ,and most of all a top soldier.
@nickjohnson710 Different era! There's probably been a few guys since him that have done extraordinary things, and people just don't know who they are because they've wanted to keep quiet,as they're not one if these SAS/SBS rocks years that want to be known hand have their face shown.Thibo about how many guys that have served between both the SAS/SBS but not once have they shown their face. Probably thousands,if not tens of thousands, ranging in different ages.
@barryhamilton7845 paddy mayne was the most highly decorated British soldier in WW2 and he happened to be in the SAS......My comment stands.....and I've heard in 22s mess hall the first picture on the wall is of paddy Mayne......he's the Godfather of 22SAS ........
I did 6 months in Belfast on an emergency tour and the hardest I ever worked was in Northern Ireland it was 16 hour work days 7 days a week with 2 weeks off
Great episode, and what a lovely bloke! Big Phil is hilarious and it was fun listening to his story. Top notch guest and opened me up to new media sources, as I was previously unaware of Forces Radio and Podcast since I'm in the U.S. But I've now followed and subscribed to those fellas. Thank you Phil and Team House!
Would love to see Phil doing a military type documentary teaching Ukrainian soldiers advanced combat skills that would be awesome weapons skills ect be great to see him teaching these specialist soldier skills.Great that Phil escaped his juvenile days went on to the most elite regiment in the world.
Big Phil! Legend is a word heavily over used however he truly is! His book Born Fearless is excellent and he's quite correct we've all been men who could be better but we grown mature and mellow. Long may he continue. 🏴🇬🇧
