So the knife thing and garbage complaint about Japan. In Japan children are left alone from like age 6+. A child in Japan most likely is more careful with things than kids in the United States. Also the yougart thing isn't that crazy either. It is to each the kid to recycle so to speak. Clean out your bottle when you are done with it and use it to customize your toy.

Yeah, I didn't find it that weird. My dad was a hobby guy, and he had plenty of "trash" converted into parts or set pieces for his tabletop miniatures. And if the goal of the toyline was to appeal to older kids who built model kits, then showing them creative ways to assemble additions to their equipment is on brand.

Transformers just aren't soposed to do that. The figure always come pre assembled for the purpose to transform cleanly. Trying to make it like a model kit builder just doesn't fit the type of figure Transformers are. Nobody wants to put trash painted silver on thiere figures. The only time were hasbro ever dose customizable figures are with the fossilizers, weaponizers, junkions and the new armorizors all come swappable parts packed in to each figure at the cost of having partsforming in the transformation. I think those types of figure are just customizable enough to be fun to mess around but also be accessible to younger audiences without the need for help to put them together.

The arms microns, as an addition to the toys, aren’t in the show.

How they handled Prime sounds a LOT like Takara executive meddling, and similar to what occured amidst production of the Brave series super robot shows they commissioned Sunrise to do; remaking a series' direction to meet a mandate instead of what audiences would actually WANT out of it. Takara execs seem contrarian; wanting merch to appeal to broad markets but going out of their way to screw over the shows that act as marketing for them, as a show that is good REGARDLESS of the merch line will do more to promote said merch than a bad or absurd show that more overtly shovels merch, as multiple Sentai, Rider, Ultra and Gundam series can attest.
...come to think of it, Transformers Prime in japan came out in 2012; right around the time that Bandai was making bank off of Kamen Rider OOO, Gokaiger, and the Gundam Seed Remaster. All of whom have their own serious bends which have the broad-market appeal that regularly escapes Takara.

Since the toyline was marketed towards older children who built model kits, it's really not that farfetched to me that they advertised yogurt bottles. "Teaching children to dig through the trash" is a huge reach. Many model builders will take every-day items and turn them into equipment, terrain, etc. for their models/miniatures.

Takaratomy dialed in a buster call, Arms Micron was the tombstone that sealed the fate of transformers in japan. Prime was too violent for small children, but not violent enough to appeal to teenagers. Therefore, they choose to give it a 4kids-like dub (like beast wars) and censored most of it. Arm Micron never stood a chance in a year of very strong seasonal animes, and the rest was history.

    For other topic ideas:
What if Transformers G1 toys had been designed with 2020s engineering from the very start (especially with less stickers) and the cartoon designs stuck much more closely to the toy concepts? Aside from the legal kerfuffle involving Jetfire. Heck, what if Hasbro gave much more of a care with the G2 toys and they borrowed Super Megatron from the Japanese continuity?
While Dreamwave was rightfully reviled, something they did right was their alternate universe of Armada. Rushed ending aside. What if the new comic owners could somehow continue on from that (or even have a timeline split that occurs before the rushed ending); especially with their own version of Cybertron's events. Or how would you polish up Armada; mainly the first half. Drastic changes to Energon you would make. Ways of giving Cybertron more of a connection to the previous entries (although ironically the Japanese version was originally planned to be a direct sequel).
Or a reinterpretation of the Transtech idea; with a new version of it not being a direct continuation of Beast Machines?

TBH, I think a big part of why TF: Prime as a show failed to connect with Japanese audience in Japan might had something to do with how usually TF skews younger in Japan as a whole, for better or worse, but the self-serious TF: Prime is really sitting in a "No Man's Land". It's trying to to be some of the first more dramatic, serialized TV fiction kids in America encountered, but when you put the same show in the different media landscape of Japan...that didn't really work out.
TF: Prime like the first "big boy show" for Transformers (and unlike most TF shows nowadays there's an actual budget invested into it so the show at least got that going for), except Transformers fans seem to ignore that a lot of other "big boy" robot shows around the same time such as Gurren Lagann or Gundam 00 have done the whole "for slightly older audiences" schtick far better.
I really think TF: Prime was destined to be a commercial failure in that market even with a more faithful dub, as the show was both too dour to be inviting to younger kids, but also nowhere near actually dramatic and compelling enough for older audiences like Japanese adults who had grown up gotten used to watching things like Gundam. It doesn’t even really have the distinction of being the most dramatic Transformer series in Japan - it couldn’t ever threaten to have casualties or even real consequence, really, which something like Masterforce or Micron Densetsu did regularly, while maintaining a more colorful atmosphere.
I still don’t think it’s a terrible show for its actual market, but it’s a wonder at all anyone ever expected it to take off in Japan. It wound up in the exact wrong spot between two extremes. Of course the various dub "additions" don't help, but the show was always doomed to failed in the Japanese market from the start, which is probably why they took that approach with the dub in the first place - it was unlikely to be able to find a niche as a straightforwardly dramatic series alongside its competition.

From what I've read, Transformers has never held quite the same level of purchase in Japan, mostly due to its theming and ideas being out of sorts with traditional mecha. Mecha fans tend to like the genre because they see it as an empowering genre: it takes a regular human and gives them a giant robot that can go toe-to-toe with any threat. You don't get that with Transformers because the robots aren't human; hell, they're not even from Earth. And meanwhile, if you look at the toyline of any Japanese mecha series, you'll notice how the bad guys basically never get toys, unless the character becomes a good guy later--there's a perception that bad guy toys don't sell. This is why Takara has tried to experiment with both ideas in their Transformers stories, featuring overtly human pilots in stories like Masterforce and Kiss Players, and more frequently depicting villains as basically harmless and incompetent sorts who tend to ultimately drop out of being evil (Sky-Byte is easily the most famous example).

    • @FireFury190
      @FireFury190 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@misterbadguy7325 I mean you say that yet the Brave series was very popular when it came out during the 80s. And they had sentient robots just like Transformers. As well as piloted mecha in some shows. Sometimes it was a mix of both. The only difference is that they focused more having the robots combine together to make bigger more powerful robots. Because that's typically a big appeal to Japanese kids. Super Sentai knows this all to well. Transformers though doesn't do it in the same way mecha shows do it. We've cultivated a stigma of not wanting parts-forming which often times limits how you can make a combination. And most combiners we get are just other members being arms and legs which is very boring. Whereas in mecha shows it's a lot more elaborate than that.

The Arms Micron themselves are pretty fun. The decision to release every figure with 80% of their paint removed in favor of difficult-to-apply stickers was not. Transformers should never have to deal with stickers and I’m glad Titans Return and POTP ensured we’d never see them again.
Also, Go!’s Beast Hunters repaints are better than the actual Beast Hunters releases. Hunter Ratchet and the Predacons are so dang sexy in terms of color palettes it’s not even funny. Wouldn’t mind some “Swordbot Universe” figures (either based on the BH repaints or the original molds; I’d love to see Optimus Exprime get a Leader Class slot just to see how American audiences react to it) or a Go!-themed capsule in Legacy (we’ve already got Thundertron to repaint into Go Prime; why not go all the way once more of the Prime guys are in Generations?).

I have the Takara Jet Vehicon which never released in the U.S. It's the only Takara figure I own because I really like the design and concept behind the Prime Vehicons. I was able to get mine a lot cheaper than Japanes imports usually go for because I bought a loose one that had not been stickered and got an extra blaster from the U.S. version to go with it so they actually match cause I do not like the Arms Micron and had no interest in that accessory.
I didn't understand why the Jet Vehicon never released in the U.S. till I got that figure in hand. The wings actually have some sharp points that if they were to do an American version would have to remolded to dull those wings down or would likely be made of rubberized plastic instead of hard plastic and I don't think either option to make the wings comply with U.S. safty laws would have been as good as the Japanese toy is.
I don't have any experience with Breakdown so I'm still not sure what the issue was with that figure other than Hasbro not wanting to remold the parts for the American toy line.
Also I'm pretty sure season 3 did come out in Japan because Go wouldn't even make sense unless they saw season 3 of Prime first.
Optimus Prime first appears in his Beast Hunters body in season 3 of Prime and he dies at the end of Predacon's Rising.
Transformers Go starts with Optimus Prime being a ghost still in his Beast Hunters body so without Season 3 of Prime Japanese auduences would have no idea how Optimus ended up like that.
I always thought Transformers Go was a better sequel than RID2015 specifically because both shows feature a dead Optimus being brought back to life in a new body but RID2015 has Optimus appear in a new body while he's still dead and Go keeps him in his Beast Hunters form until it actually makes sense in story for him to be resurrected in a new body.
Also the Villains of Go are the Predacons and Japanese audiences would have no clue who any of them are or where they came from without seeing season 3 of Prime first sinse the big bad of Go has his origins explained in Prime season 3.
Go does reuse a lot of the molds but that's cause it's a continuation from where Prime ended not a replacement for season 3. It came out around the same time as RID2015 as well. So Prime had 2 entirely different sequels depending on which country you were from.

I didn’t know how much I hated the term “stickering” until just now. 😅

I think that the Arms Micron port deal is 🐳💩; let's ignore the eventual release of Breakdown in 2022 and even Hasbro's first use of the mold ("Most Wanted" Megatron). How about Beast Hunters Ultra Magnus, who was a retool of the Arms Micron version of Optimus Prime.

... and their Nemisis Prime, Silas Breakdown, Nemisis Bumblebee and Dark Energon Cliff jumper were some nice versions.

Honestly, Arms Micron by it’s own merits WAS a pretty neat toy line all things considered, if imports weren’t as expensive as they are these days it’s a toy line I would have invested in at least a little.
Honestly, I clicked on this video hoping to hear more about the Japanese dub of the show, hear your opinions of it. I found it a fascinating and kinda fun little venture personally, it felt more in-tone with Animated (which is not only my favorite Transformers show, but straight up my favorite cartoon of all time), and while I’m sure some of that is bias because I utterly DESPISE the (pardon my language) dogshit over-dramatic space opera drivel that Prime was over here, even besides that, there was something amusing about the utter tone shift between the two. It’s kinda the new-age version of the Headmasters dub, you don’t watch it because it’s good, you watch it because “wtf”. That’s how I feel about it, anyway-.

I bet people were just hoping to get two of the arms micron that were the exact same color. Wheel jack and ratchet were probably two characters that I can think of that. Japanese fans would’ve had to do this for.

I think context plays a giant role in looking at releases after the fact... Sure, do these designs have odd choices and aesthetics? Yeah, when compared to today's choices, but they were definitely trying something new, which some people enjoy. I hear so many complaints about Hasbro releasing the same figures over and over... New designs get complaints and old designs get complaints 🤷
