“We’re going to add 3 new mechanics, but one of them gets a mob that isn’t needed for the feature and you get to vote!”
Except for the fact that it's a command and not obtainable in survival without cheats... Y'all are reaching just to hate on Mojang at this point, the minecraft community is so toxic when it comes to shit like this lol.

Hey new mob I'm happy. I personally think the armadillo is nice.
@@missdamenoir2830 exactly
@@carlpapa123 what
I would honestly prefer if this was how the Mob Vote worked with the one in 1st place being implemented first, then the 2nd/3rd following after.
I honestly thought mob votes would be like this at first.
If you mean added in snapshots, then it wouldn't really matter because they would all be in the official version. And they can't be released by the updates to the version, because everyone playing any version of 1.20 (as far as I'm aware) is capable of playing together. Adding in mobs to a later version of 1.21 wouldn't work because people playing on 1.21.1 wouldn't have access to the mobs in 1.21.3 or whatever. Which means each losing mob would be released a year later in 1.22!
This is how I always thought it was. The giant squid was reimplemented as bubble columns, the desert thing became a grindstone, etc.
That’s literally how they are being implemented
They've said they'll add the other, but it feels like they never actually will. The Swamp feels like a fluke now.
I hadn't checked up on Minecraft in years, and now I learn that despite the decade or so of Minecraft being owned by a zillion-dollar company, it still has the dev support of like... two people working weekends.
yeah... pretty much. their mob updates that take weeks and weeks of mob votes and are only once a year each, add a mob that most devs could easily add in an afternoon. its actually kinda insane. land a job at Mojang as a java dev and you have the easiest job in the world, 1 hour work weeks
They're also lucky to have some of the most easily contented fanbases I have ever seen. Any change you could ask for is answered with "well, that would ruin this other thing that people enjoy, so they shouldn't work to make adjustments" or "that thing is fine because this group of people remains happy" like lmao okay just stop updating the game ig
it's probably just a community management scheme designed to create traction either through competitive FOMO (different people will drive up media traction due to their different fear of missing out on their preferred content) or through the controversy. Remember that these features and additions aren't resource intensive for just about any dev team. These things have been made by modders in days or hours of free time. So the company or even the department isn't losing out on money by not including a portion of these "keychain" style additions.
Minecraft has always been a massively popular game via it's relatively massive time sink:cost ratio for gamers. It's always been cheap, and has always provided thousands of hours of gameplay to almost all of it's purchasers, it's generated nearly 100% satisfaction as a product.
Today, it's been acquired. The first direction an IP is taken towards after being acquired by a different entity is to make money. Minecraft skin packs sell- sure, but skins by and large are free. Skin packs sell on console due to the obvious lack of a free skin market. Mods also massively expand all ends of the game in all sorts of directions, and the only place that the premium behavior packs and scripted world packs sell is again- console, which is only a portion of the total playerbase.
Microsoft acquired ownership over a product that is already owned by most people, maintains low cost as a part of it's appeal, and has very little space for the IP to grow value-wise.
They won't release DLC content in the form of worldly expansion, because while it would sell, it would hurt the value of the IP. We don't want "the aether" as a 14.99 DLC.
@@blackwoodsecurity531I despise the Bedrock Edition store more than anything in this world.
@@blackwoodsecurity531Honestly, just play Tekkit Lite or something, mods on Java are free, as it SHOULD BE.
Therefore if Microsoft/Mojang wants money (cuz apparently they don't have enough money already oozing out of their butts), they could just do what any sane game dev company would: make an expansion pack for the game.
I wouldn't pay $15 for "the Aether", because we already know the Aether as a free mod. I would, however, pay, say $5, on a new official Minecraft expansion, that may add new mechanics like minerals and whatnot.
Honestly though, Minecraft has squeezed out so much money already, over the long years. Since we're talking about multimillion dollar companies, I don't see why they can't just leave it as is, and continue doing updates and adding new content to Minecraft, perhaps with a little more substance than the current 1 mob and 1 feature per year. You know, to keep the fans engaged.
Although Minecraft is still an amazing game, and it always will be, to me.
What I find strange is the fact that the technical side of minecraft is always getting good updates that people want, like /tick and /random, both features that are really handy, and now the size and reach commands.
It's like Mojang is trying to make the comparison between player-made modes and regular gameplay even more one-sided in favor of the player modes. Do they not realize that standard vanilla survival is basically the most boring way to play their game?
@@nerd_nato564 I think they realize the main appeal of their game is player made modes and that's the only reason it's even half as popular as it is
at the end of the day minecraft is a SANDBOX. i always play it with mods simply because thats the best way to experience it.
Modes or mods?
@@destroything Mods too, but in this case I meant modes since stuff like player reach and other commands are more helpful for custom modes, rather than mods.
The idea of turtle scutes being the wolf armor is better than adding a new mob exclusively for this.
I'm convinced Minecraft forgot about the sea turtle, I can't even blame them honestly since turtles are forgettable anyway

for fucking real, and it's not like they need the AI for the mob to be complex either so how is it not possible to add the whole mob? It wouldn't take longer than a week with a team.
99% of minecraft updates could be done in minutes to hours, (most updates exist in mods already anyway.) The modern gaming industry LOVES to put fluff time to get paid extra for doing nothing. Why does it take a year to add 1 mob when lego fortnite plans to add 25 in a month lmao? They are just lazy.
I am pretty sure they did this as part of work task to make more things configurable, which makes it easier to modify things via commands and also to bind them to items. Then someone had the idea with the crab-item and then they held it back until after the mob vote. I guess they expected the crab to win, but they didnt rig it enough this time.
I'm guessing that they don't want people to vote just for the mechanics of the mob anymore, honestly I think this is a better way to do it.
For real. A lot of people I knew who voted crab were exclusively voting on the mechanical use it had, which at that point, what they're really looking for is an item or block vote. Mobs are so much more than a resource or a tool. They add sounds and change the energy that builds the atmosphere of an environment, which to the vast majority of users who are casual players, is much more valuable. The function a mob brings is important, but it shouldn't be the *only* reason to pick a mob.
@@Rottotomg, a reasonable human being! You exist!

I feel like this is just like what (I assume) happened with the "monster of the ocean depths". That mob would drag you underwater, and after it failed the vote, we got magma blocks doing the same thing.
no, bubble columns were announced at the same minecon that the barnacle lost the vote in. bubble columns were not meant to replace it, they just happened to have similar functionalities. a better example would be the grindstone with the "great hunger", considering they actually do the exact same thing and were an update apart (great hunger would have come in 1.13, grindstone was added in 1.14)
I still hope we get some variant of that underwater drag you down mob one day, I liked that concept a lot
@@michaelelischer1565 I feel the grindstone is a much more balanced implementation of the concept - there is much less chance involved in the process.
@@iamaylacat3935 yeah and imagine accidently having you're enchantments removed while fighting the great hunger. perssonally one of the few mobs I'm glad lost.
Why do people want an underwater mob that drags you down, when they hate the drowned who breaks your boat with a trident. The Phantom is the most hated mob vote mob of all time yet say they want the water version?
I wonder if they'll do similar things at some point for other mobs who lost the vote
I mean supposedly they're supposed to be added eventually??

I didn't.
That's for Biomes. Mob votes started with one that EXPLICITLY STATED that all not chosen would be never seen again.
Mojang forgot lmao. When was the last time you saw them mention the moobloom?
I feel like the mob vote should just determine which of the mobs gets added first, and the ones that lose just get added later, in the following major update. Like there are so many cool ideas that get thrown away for one reason or another, and most of the votes feel scuffed due to youtube influence, etc... so why not keep the stakes of a mob vote but still have the cool ideas of other mobs not be wasted?
This happened before!
The ocean mob from the first mob was supposed to drag you down but instead we got magma’s with that same feature. Grindstone does the same thing as another mob that lost too!
Yeah!! The blaze boss was clearly gonna give you shields but they were just added anyway
@@theroyalbuilderNo, it was gonna be the first mob that uses shields, not give you it.
I'd still prefer if they were actual creatures instead of just block functions though, i want a maw as a pet
The grindstone does not do the same as the great hunger. That was supposed to have quite a bit more functionality.
I guess they have to implement it into the game as a proof of concept before marketing it in the mob vote, so they just decide not to waste it and implement it.
They should always add all three, no reason not to, the mob vote should stay, but it should only be "select the one you want to see first", the others get added afterwards
Also.. The explosion should definitely scale with the creeper size

the baby stopped coughing
Should I engage? No I think I won’t.
Nvm, here’s a few quotes from a Mojang developer that was a prior modder. Tweets and Reddit posts respectively have been deleted to my knowledge.
(Twitter posts)
- You're talking to a modder right now, was for 10 years before joining Mojang. Modding is not the same as being a developer on the bestselling game of all time. Working on Minecraft requires more than just making a mod. This isn't a valid argument, and modders hate it too.
- One of the biggest things left out about the whole "why not add all 3" is also all the things the community WOULDN'T get because we'd be focusing on adding 2 extra mobs. Time isn't some free resource - if we worked on all of them, we'd have less in the core update.
(Reddit Posts)
•We work 8 hour shifts, thanks. Let's see, for any given feature this is the list of things to do:
• Iterate on the design to make sure it fits wholistically in the full game
• Make prototypes to validate the design and see if it is ACTUALLY fun
• Rewrite the feature as production code in Java and Bedrock engines
• These are two different engines with two different programming languages, Java and C++
• The engines also have different technology and different functionality, meaning things are not always easy to do
1-to-1 ports
• This means developing the feature
TWICE, requiring twice the amount of work any mod would have to do by default
• Make sure it works on all platforms: PC, Xbox, Playstation, Switch, mobile devices, etc
• Make sure it is PERFORMANT on all those platforms and is not causing regressions on any of them
• Absolutely be sure that the code we are writing is clean, readable and will pass our quality threshold for getting merged into the codebase without making our future selves suffer
• Put them through PR, get tech approval and sign-off that the feature is developed to the standards we are happy with
• Sift through feedback from the community on the feature, iterate on the design based on the feedback and reimplement those changes twice on each platform
• Go through all the newly tracked bugs that come in and fix them until the feature is at a quality that is not only expected of us but is acceptable based on our own quality standards
And that is but a small slice of what it means to actually work on a feature in the game, l would not be able to give a real picture of what it's like on Twitter because it's a big process. Working on games is hard, and people unfortunately don't get a good insight to what it's like without working in the industry themselves. Hope this gives a small bit of insight.

@@skelleflame3519 this argument is terrible thats why they were deleted lmao
Just because he deleted them doesn’t mean the points he made never existed, just ignoring everything because he deleted it seems like an ignorant approach. I feel like the interaction range is more to do with the fact you can scale up or down your character and it would be weird to be giant and only be able to interact w blocks and entities 5 blocks away from you, the same reason they added step height. Though it also makes a base for the crab if and when they decide to add the crab claw into the game
2:08 I feel this comment. I feel this comment so much. Turtles at least had Scutes AND their eggs were lures to hostile mobs. And I think if they add the Penguin and Crab anyway it's gonna be as "apology" for all the people upset with the Mob Vote this year.

@@Randomrainfrog it’s a comments section on social media, when have you ever seen any social media without some comment sections filled with similar behavior?
Also would love to see them go back and add things to past mobs where it makes in game parity sense. Like I agree with doing turtle wolf armor if you are gonna do armadillo. Give similar benefits to turtle helmets. Longer water breathing, maybe speed their swimming since wolves swim p slow. Hell add an armadillos helmet that does well against falling block damage specifically.
They could entirely fix the mob vote by just making a mob vote every 3-5 major updates, so whatever mob gets voted is added first then the other 2 are added in the 2 or so major updates after, so in term we would just be voting on which one we want sooner.
I think they might be doing that now considering that a dev said how negative the mob vote was received and the fact that they’re adding the armadillo *before* 1.21
They’re adding the mechanics and not the mobs, you probably don’t know about the bubble column and the grindstone
@@Sivves Yes, I do, and that's what they should be doing from now on and not just once or twice every few years.
@@Sivves the bubble column wasn't made with replacing a mob vote losers features in mind. it would have been added in the same update as the barnacle (assuming the barnacle would have won).
People would forget about the mob vote if it only happened once every 5 years
I've been saying this for AGES now. the features from the mobs who lost are eventually added, at least most of the ones who actually had features. Just like:
The Great hunger would remove enchantments - Grindstone was added
The Depth monster would pull you down - Magma block new functionality
who's to say we wouldn't get glowing signs from glow lichen instead of glow squids? or wolf armor from treasure chests? or sniffer flowers from archeology sites? or even elytra repairing through a totally different method!
This seems very reminiscent of a mod that I believe was called Pehkui, if I’m not mistaken. It’s cool to see ideas that are similar to ideas of the community being added in the official game!
that would be the mod! it's the mod that adds the core functionality of most origins in the origins mod, and the size change for immersive portals, and so on. Pretty much every mod that has some sort of size change feature is just utilizing pehkui to accomplish it instead of implementing it themselves. Pehkui is a very big and useful mod.

There’s actually a retry cool tutorial by timber forge on how to add custom mobs@@goobus_floobus
My thought is - Mojang expected the crab to win, so they started developing the extra reach. Then the crab didn't win, so they just included this as a setting.
Maybe they had already finished it (since it is a very simple feature, probably just requires changing some numbers) but were unsure if people would like it. The crab didn't win but the idea still got positive reception.
I was worried about it being added as a part of normal progression. I don't know if it's a good idea. But I am certainly happy about it being an easy-to-change setting. (And people will make it available in survival through modding.)
This would be plausible, but that extended reach is pretty much a single line of code change.* Somewhere in there they have a check "if the block the player is pointing at is 5 units away or closer, allow interaction". People have been changing it for fun for some time now.
*(ok, it's a single line of code change when modifying the source code to increase/decrease it, to make it modifiable in-game they had to move it into a variable and implement a gamerule to modify that variable. That's still a couple of minutes of dev time, negligible effort even when considering all of the QA and corporate overhead.)
They didn't need to start developing it before the results, they could've always had it ready in the next snapshot.
There was already a difference between reach in creative and survival modes, so my guess is that it was pretty much implemented already, but now players can interact with the feature.
@@mivilkku That's true, I forgot about that.

4:17 you are indeed literally teleporting up, thats how stairs work in games sometimes, honorable mention, is slopes, sliding up a ramp is also how stairs work sometimes
If I have to take a guess, the reason they added the interaction range was to make the scale mode less clunky. Mobs, including the player might be still raycasting from their look point if they are in range to interact with things. Which is why even being against the creeper didn't make it go boom initially.
Wolf Armor should be found like Horse Armor, but in different loot pools that are currently useless like Pillager Outposts and Trail Ruins

The reason why the reach was added was for the scale attribute allowing you to make it as you grow bigger you gain more reach for map makers
Think we are looking to far into this
I'm so glad they added the step height attribute, I always install a small mod just to do that. I like auto-jump _in theory,_ but the little extra up-down camera move from it is really annoying.
In terms of the actual animals, there's no point in having a vote and not adding all 3. One mod I love is Friends & Foes, which adds in the losers of previous votes like copper golems and mooblooms. New creatures that aren't just animals really help flesh out the Minecraft world as a unique setting.
personally i like this, i like that we get the functionality of the mob in game to help with the technical side of the game. it’s better rather than just leaving the entire mob and it’s functionality out
they did with the mob vote with phantom too. like... the grindstone and magma ravine(they removed it anyways)
why not just add all of them? a modder can create even more complex shit but an entire team in charge of the game can only do as much as mediocre, minimal updates?
@@osakeleto It seems like the higher ups are just too strict about what's allowed, as far as I'm aware.
@@venomousslime6797 The higher ups allowed the mob vote to begin with, so them not being allowed to add the mobs by the people who gave it the ok seems like a stretch.
@@MizukiNoDoragon I'm not saying I know why, tbh. I don't really get it myself.

wait until phoenix hears about how thing from votes are still getting added, just in time
2:30 the disappointment in his voice 😭
To be honest this is gonna be really fun for minigames I feel, at least if they let us set it to whatever we want
They should just announce a new feature in the next mob vote but have the community vote for the appearance of the mob with the feature if they're adding all features anyway.
I thought as an Australian we find out first.
We are all a day in the future after all… 😂
I like that they've added a feature that's similar to the crab and hope they add one similar to the penguin too.
Even though phantoms are extremely annoying, one of the things that makes the first mob vote one of the less offensive ones to me is that all the mobs did end up getting "added" in some way.
The kraken became bubble columns because of their ability to hold players down underwater
The great hunger became the grindstone because of its disenchanting feature
The armoured blaze became an updated nether (ok that one's a stretch, but it is one of the inspirations behind the nether update)
If Mojang's gonna keep doing mob votes (which they really shouldn't at this stage), I'd rather see the winner get added and features similar to all of the rest get added later.
We got the Hovering inferno trough the piglin brute. Harder version of a mob that is a miniboss for it's structure added due to lack of challenge
Yep. And I'm loving the way they approach things. People are just pissy over nothing and the vast majority of the Minecraft community shouts about it loudly themselves. We get the mob people voted for and then we get the features from the rest of them as other features in the game. In theory, that should satisfy majority of people. In reality, it does not because people love to whine.
The copper golem's ability to interact with redstone also got used for the breeze which can interact with more than just buttons but doors and trapdoors as well
Raid Mojang
@nekoiscoolII of course, but as op said if mojang keep doing votes, this is the way they should do it. but preferably no more votes as they have the ability to add all of the stuff
3:13 Giant enemy spider
Spot enemy spider
fact that the entity interaction range has been in hypixel skyblock since 2021 is funny
Phoenix, can you please make a Minecraft crab rave with the crab saying “the mob vote is gone”. That would be incredibly hilarious
The difference is, the cab needs an item to place blocks farther away and could be obtained in survival, the new comand can only be used when cheets are enabled.
I imagine you could use a datapack to change the range based on the item you’re holding
Yeah just use a datapack
The real difference is that we don't have a crab. I want a pet crab!
You can easily use any item as the claw now. Since block reach is an attribute, it can be applied to items
still not doable in a normal survival world @@NeedForMotivationn
honestly i was worried, the difference between this and so called "crab has been added" is that one is a command for debug purposes or map making (or whatever is fun) and the crab was obtainable in survival. IF the crab was added then building reach could be extendable in survival without the use of cheats enabled (commands)
Armor has a feature where when it is equipped you get +(whatever) armor, which is actually a general kind of attribute for each item. With a data pack and resource pack you could craft a crab claw which when equipped (held) you get the attribute of having extra reach
@@blllk8189 oh so you're saying that with this new command you can program a new item that when held will use the new command to increase the block placing lenght by any amount? i mean if you look at it like that they technically did add the claw to the game, but i see it like they added an option for people who voted crab to have what they wanted which does make the mob vote kind of pointless true. but i think the vote was about the mob and the 3 features (it might actually just be the build extension command and we'll get nothing that resembles the penguin's function in any way) are gonna come anyways? but if someone uses a resource pack then what does it differ from someone using a mod to add all 3 mobs?
@@sackzcottgames Yes, not really programming, but with command privilege you can generate an item that gives a player extra reach while in main/off-hand. And with a datapack, you can add a crafting recipe to this extra reach item. The difference between this and a mod being the ease of use and better compatibility with MC features.
With a mod, you need a Fabric or Forge mod loader and it could require libraries and extra installations and you might as well add a custom launcher that handles your mods and... that's a lot of stuff compared to downloading a ZIP file to your world and it works.
@@blllk8189 i see, thanks for an explanation
the mob vote should've always been a popularity vote, which mod is everyone's favorite and whatever one won, they'd focus more on it
Wonder how this will work with the different reaches for different tools in the combat tests!
The mob vote is for which mob you want added. Adding the features of the other mobs is good - it means you can just vote on looks and not worry about the mechanics
I remember seeing that someone criticised Mojang for tying mobs to features. They thought that Mojang should not announce specific features for the mob and just let people vote for their favourite animal. I think this may be similar, except that Mojang will still announce specific features for mobs, but will implement the rejected mobs' features anyway.
At the same time, is this block reach thing available in survival? If not, maybe it makes a difference whether the crab is added.
Does this mean that if the armadillo was rejected, some other material, like leather, gold, iron, diamond, netherite, or turtle shell, would be used for the wolf armour?
Would be funny if they did this, and all the mobs were useless (like bats)
@@magentamonster actually yea i think this might work best. just give us a blank slate and lets us vote off looks and never tie it to a mechanic. that's what i did with the allay anyways, it was just cute, i didnt even care about the mechanics
3:43 the disappointments
Mojang talked about not adding new items and instead adding functionality to existing ones, after which they proceeded to add a whole ass useless mob with another useless item. So instead of giving a use to the turtle shell or just making dog armor out of leather we now have a useless mob with a useless feature. And it can't even be dyed.

i think there's a difference between "adding the crab claw to vanilla survival" and "making this an editable feature with commands"
This could be the first step to a surprise addition of the crab. They have to set up the function before they apply it to an item.
Edit: I see what you mean, the title is kinda click bait.
It's better, because they added more customization.
@@Tasorius you can't get it in a vanilla game though. it's not better, and tbh if the crab would have been added they probably would have added this command alongside it anyway.
@@michaelelischer1565 Unless you just use commands in vanilla. I like to customize things with some commands and datapacks that make the game more fun. These commands add a lot to the game for me...
If you know about data packs, you know that this is wrong
4:32 Pause here. Phoenix forgot to turn on biome blend, and now the sea is giving me a headache 💀
Wait you mean armadillo armor actually does something for creepers?
Using different scutes for different colored armor would be pretty cool
People saying Mojang should add all three
Mojang adds all three

Mob vote apologists are dumb
You can use the entity reach command to hit hostile enemies from afar and see how they react. I’ve seen a video of someone punching the warden from like 100 blocks away and the warden immediately started chasing them as if they weren’t blind.
Tbh if I felt someone punch me with a 100 meter arm I'd probably start chasing them. There'd definitely be a path of destruction left by that thing
PLACER BLOCK (dispenser can place water or lava, but this one can place ANY block). Crafted with crab claw instead of a bow.
People could make server minigames where you have a birds eye view of a playing field where your range is set to the max of that field, and you can interact with everything within the field. E.g. a build battle, where you're locked within a space above the canvas, but can place blocks wherever anywhere. Probably not very exciting but the potential is there
Honestly, I want to see them also add turtle wolf armor JUST so turtle scutes have a use other than crafting a glorified respiration helmet. They could even give the wolf the same abilities underwater that the turtle shell gives you and allow the wolf to swim under water with you. I'd like to see that!
Imagine if one of the perks of the armadillo armor is that when the wolf got too low on health, it would curl up into a ball and get super high defense stats.
Make the crafting 8 turtle scute surrounding wolf armor and that could work well.
@@leolen8029 thats too much like a mod

@@blogdogs9462 I think it could work well in vanilla minecraft. Also, if the dog is rolled up, mobs wouldn't target it.

Love that the title screen says PhoenixSC Cursed Edition, but I have to ask: is there even an _uncursed_ version of PhoenixSC?
2:19 I like it
Improved step height has been a feature of so many mods over pretty much the entire Minecraft modding history (seriously, I'm pretty sure it's older than Forge), so it was astounding when Mojang implemented autojump which was extremely crappy literal auto jump instead of improved step height. Nice to see them finally implement it properly… 10 years later? And only as an attribute? xD
um ackshually it was implemented as an attribute not a gamerule
@@softlysnowing3959 right, fixed
And the mods would always build it into their armors and usually not think to offer a way to disable it.
Taking lethal damage should break the wolf armor on the dog
Oh but if crab won we would have gotten the ability to add armor points on to mobs or items. So it would extend beyond just wolves and we could make cat armor, pig armor, ender dragon armor and so much more!
Yeah, no.
I love that we can scale ourselves. One of my favorite features from the Voting Update last April was shrinking down and having a staircase hideout.
4:05 they added step assist
"Why can't i walk on the wall?"
-Phoenix SC
yeah, i'm glad they're adding all 3, that's what the mob vote was supposed to be to begin with, they vote on which is added FIRST while the rest are added later- and we're still waiting on that "later" to this day
Are you sure the creeper explosions were on hard mode in both versions?
Probably in normal in both versions
Ive tested the wolf armour on java on hard mode, I don't know the exact health value remaining but the wolf does survive. However, this applies to both armoured and unarmoured wolves. They cannot survive a creeper explosion on the block they are on though
I think for the future mob votes they should do a meet your match kinda thing. So like if you vote for one mob that mob will be added first and the other ones later, it would make mob votes better as you don't only chose one mob.
Except uh, meat your match never got around to doing that.

Custom adventure and game maps/worlds are going to have a lot of fun with these.
I guess the real strategy is to vote for the thing you don't want in the game, as you're gonna get the other two options in a much more accessible way

More accessible? when it's via commands? You're not going to be able to use this in survival without cheats
