I have my Colt 4 inch Python i used in 1992 in police science and in the Academy untill 1994 when the Autos came out. My dept. Were given Smth and Wesson 1986 2nd gen 4506s. I used my Sig Sauer P220 45 ACP after my 45 Smith and Wesson malfunctioned. We went to the new Sig Sauer P320 45 ACP in 2014. I still have mine and retired with it after 25 years with my dept. Here in Wisconsin.
.357 Magnum Colt Python. I just purchased one last year 4.25 barrel I also changed out the grips to white ivory , to make it a little bit more western. The recoil on these are as smooth as silk and very accurate.
I had the Colt Python 6 inch blued version and it was absolutely beautiful. Great gun but I wasn't really shooting it much and sold it. I have an affection for service type pistols that are light accurate, dependable and easy to work on. I carry a Glock G21 gen 4 now and have a Taurus pt101 40 cal that I bring for outdoor things. Both are plain Jane and the Taurus slide is holster warn af and the finish is mat black. Their just beautiful though😂
Sigh, for a bit more I should have bought one in the 1980's instead of my S&W 686..I hate to ask how much it's worth now..lol but Ok, how much have you been offered? lol
Ram into a guy at a gun shop in town, he said he was gonna take his Python Hunter to the big gun show; original box, Leupold pistol scope, mint condition yada yada, said he bought it for pistol hunting then NEVER TOOK IT OUT and just kept using a rifle. He asked me what he should ask for it, part of me wanted to offer him $2,000 on the spot but I couldn’t be that slimy. I told him to ask $8,000.
It’s wild that these guns weren’t really hot items until Starsky & Hutch, then went quiet again (outside of the gun folk) until The Walking Dead. Same to be said of Marlins, if Jurassic World didn’t hit the screens Ruger may not have revived them.
I love the look of Colt Pythons. I couldn’t afford one. So the end of my life .357 magnum for me was going to be a Colt King Cobra. So I saved my money for over a year. Bought it. The king Cobra Almost killed me. When it breaks the firing pin goes to the fire position and the trigger stays jammed to the back of the trigger guard. I sent it to colt CZ to get it fixed as it was still under warranty. Got it back and within a few weeks the exact same thing happened a second time. I list all confidence in my Colt-CZ King Cobra. That I politely asked them to trade it for a bright stainless 1911 I’d pay the difference. They sent me a standard 1911. I had been carrying the colt king cobra appendix. Just before it broke. I feel quality has gone way down at colt. It would have been very easy for this gun to go off carrying appendix. I even had a police officer look at it to make sure it was well documented. You guys do what you want. By off of my experience. colt are great guns. But wit mine it broke on me twice in a short time period just after I bought it new. I sent it to ColtCz twice. They fixed it. It broke a secound time with a catastrophic failure as in firing pin forward. Would have set off .357 round. I had enough. No more colt king cobras. If the python has the same mechanism in it. Be careful. This is the only warning you will get.
If not held properly it cant be accurate enough to defend ones self in certain situations. So much power the barrel when shot kicks up before the bullet can reach the end of the barrel pulling you off target it's so much power it has to be controlled to be affective. Trust me. I went through 600 rounds of different ammo thinking the ammo was the reason when holding it firmly containing its kick back enough so the bullet could leave the barrel on target. It's a pistol with rifle velocity.
@@GunGlutton thanks gun glutton I hope they're sound on this one. If I'm going to pay that kind of money for a cold python I want to hear what the hell the guy is saying about it.
@@edljnehan2811 I owned lots of vintage pythons and like the new ones better. They aren’t as beautiful as the old blued pythons but functionally they are superior. Probably my favorite newly released gun in years
@@GunGlutton thank you very much sir. And as far as I'm concerned 3 in is the perfect length for a cc gun. I have the Ruger SP 100 in 3 in. I don't know if you give the MSRP on your Channel or not but I would be interested to know what one cost now.
The Python I was referring to was an early 70s version, and the hand polished trigger surfaces were silky smooth. It felt a bit better than my CZ. Although the CZ and Wesson are very fine as well, it is noticeable.

They can be fixed and it’s rare compared to the old ones. The old ones go out of time if you fart too hard while holding it. And good luck finding a gun smith who can fix the old ones
