Sonny echos the sentiment of nearly every Republican voter. The party is weak and silent. Trump is the beginning, but there needs to be more aggressive change. Sonny is the voice we need.

You are amazing and keep teaching America about the great actions of Black Americans. I took a African American history class thinking it would be a breeze. I learned so much about our true history and the contribution of both ethnicities, blacks and whites have built this country together as one not as a skin color.

It concerns me that Sonnie has not read any books or extensively studied American Black history yet she is given a platform to diagnose “Black” issues. After listening to the great Dr. Carr it’s hard to legitimately take someone like Sonnie seriously.

The real problem is that most elected Republicans are not and have not been for decades actual conservatives. I've been conservative my whole life, and a majority of my friends are conservative. We have to vote Republican because Democrats are not conservative at all. Conservatives are usually disgusted with elected Republicans. I've never met one single white supremacist. I have been to county Republican conventions in two different states. There are voting seats that go empty because conservatives are not willing to get involved to the same extent as leftists, who are mostly looking to government to get something. This makes it hard for white or black conservatives (there's really not much difference) to get a voice. When I was at a North Carolina state convention, fully half of the voting positions were empty, only because not enough people were willing to step up and attend. The county Republican party chairman ran unopposed because no one was willing to run against her. Everybody was unhappy with her, but no one ran against her. As Sonnie says, the grass roots folks are mostly more conservative than the elected officials, and they are not usually that affluent either, and as I mentioned before, most of them don't care about race at all. They are much more driven by ideas which work for everyone. The top national leaders of the Republican party are not ideologically driven, they speak what they think the voters want to hear, but they don't speak like people who are impassioned with ideas they know will work. They are more concerned with not rocking the boat, not wanting to be accused of racism, and wanting to be "civil". Mitt Romney is a good example. There's no way he could be a good spokesman for conservative principles having been the proponent of a type of socialized medical system in Massachusetts. McCain was a candidate that only two people I know of could stand. All of my friends and I held our noses to vote for him. I think he's the worst candidate I ever had to vote for. He consistently stabbed in the back various groups of republican voters over the years and bragged about crossing the aisle. This is not a winning strategy when you plan to turn around and ask these folks to vote for you!
When grassroots conservatives don't like the Republican party candidate, they just stay home and don't vote. We conservatives get infuriated with Republican leaders who act as if they want to lose elections, lose votes on legislation, etc. You'll never hear any of this from the media because the media doesn't hang out with any real conservatives, if they even know any. The Republican voters have been totally disgusted with their politicians since at least 1988. Conservatism is not the same as the Republican party. One thing that is distinctive about conservatives is that they are individualists, ie, it's hard to get them to agree to anything. They won't be told how to vote. Many national elections were lost by Republicans because they don't listen to the grassroots voters. Many conservative voters stayed home during the 1996, 2008, and 2012 elections. Not sure about 2016. A lot of the politicians don't do much to court the Black voter because they give up those districts as unwinnable, instead of having the vision to see the need to explain conservative principles consistently year after year. Plus it takes more effort to go speak in front of people if you believe they will shout you down.
The average wealthy person is far more likely to be a Democrat than a Republican. I live in an area full of limousine liberals--these are the folks whose kids go to private schools while they push against school choice which would help anyone who lives in a miserable school district and put the power back in the hands of parents. They propose taxes that are regressive, such as gasoline usage taxes. Who has to drive further and pay more of these taxes? The non-affluent people who can't afford to live closer in to posh over-priced downtown areas. I have listened to Democrats peddle the same twaddle my entire life about Republicans being the party of the rich, but every actual event I've attended was full of people driving average cars, old cars, etc., small business owners, working class people, etc. Please, for the sake of EVERY American, give conservative principles a chance. Conservatives are not enemies, they are not racists, they just believe that individual Americans can make the best decisions for themselves. They want everyone to have equal access to hope and opportunity.

I love it when Sonnie teaches about black history. You have to pick someone that you feel you can trust and I think it's her. It's good to get the insight and I can handle having the light focused on my white life. She challenges us to do something to make changes and it's entirely fair to say it. Or yell it! Black and white conservatives have way more in common than the differences that the media tells us we have. Irrespective of the politics we're all just folks. Sometimes she drives me crazy but she's addictive.
