I’d leave the crack in your writing bureau, it’s part of its history. I’d get an old fashioned writing blotter & place it there, it would be in keeping & cover most of the crack. It’s just a thought.
And a much cheaper option too ❤️

Years ago I was delighted with a Victorian bird cage I'd bought. I hung it in a corner of the sitting room and it looked lovely. I took a photo to send to a friend in Canada but when I uploaded the photo there was a massive, and I mean huge, cobweb behind it. I went back through to the sitting room and stared at that corner and couldn't see a thing. I took another photo and uploaded it and sure enough, there was a massive cobweb. I couldn't get over it. So I know exactly what you mean about the dust showing up in photos!
😆 I have bird cages in the greenhouse and they are cobweb magnets 🕸️

Oh Dear I’m SO glad you did NOT push ahead on the drive. We have something that happens frequently here in New England called black ice. Not certain if your area has that dangerous road condition when you experience both rain and snow in the same day or hour. It is EXTREMELY dangerous. I’m glad you went back home and did that brief radio interview from there. You tackle so many things that you have inspired me, even at 72! I LOVE doing little DIYS but I am afraid to begin due to the fear of doing something terrible😅! THANK YOU for your inspiration. Love your videos 😊

Your style is just like mine. I moved to the US from England in the 60's when I was 15. I've given my house and garden a very English look. I have all of my mom's china and I've collected a lot more of my own. Soft pastel florals are just so soothing and relaxing.

I’ve been slowly getting some spring cleaning but have to halt awhile as my brother is driving out from Florida. To pick me up in CA and we’ll travel across county back too his house. (I hate to fly and it makes me so full of anxiety). Our 97 yr old mum passed away on 02.25.24 natural causes, in the company of my brother at his house . She was remarkable and lived in her own house , took care of all her needs and cleaning/ cooking to the end. It was peaceful and she was not alone. In preparing for my journey I did have a locksmith here today to replace the double locks on my front door and security door. They were sold old and I’m relived they have been replaced.
I understand feeling overwhelmed… one room at a time. I just finished washing all the curtains and sheets. Cleaned the inside windows which was so nice to get done.

As a temporary solution for the desk lid run some bees wax not the polish just wax along the runner buff it and its will help run smoother it won't cure the other problem but it will help and stop the wood from drying out I love this type of desk they where built to last

We've had so much rain here in Wales this year, it's been depressing. I think we need a good few days of sunshine to make us smile again I think.

take another woodworking class and that could be your project. Also I believe you can remove the back of the desk, reach your arms in to treat the inside wood of the roll top.

Hi, the snow is beautiful, love your bedroom it is so relaxing. You said it the pressures of life make us tired, but here is an LOL, at my age 62 you start forgetting and after awhile don't care. My granddaughter will be 7 in August. Can't wait to add book 2 to my collection. Take care, and dress is pretty.

You are doing well with all our projects. X love the desk... My Dad went into carpentry after the war ...as a cabinet maker...pity hes not here to tell you how you might fix it ...he used to make all his furniture with dovetails joints etc x

The cat basket has given me a brilliant idea for my giant bossy monster (11 month kitten). He keeps getting up on my chest of drawers and attacking the plants there. He's already brutalised one, now there's an empty spot just right for a basket!
Love the video Catherine! As a Canadian, I've seen a lot of snow, but those big flakes coming down in your garden, looks beautiful! That type of snow rarely stays, but it looks so Christmassy! Christmassy is actually a word? I didn't get the squiggly lines telling me there was a spelling error!

I love your house. If I lived alone, and not with my husband and adult sons, I think id like my house to look like yours. I noticed you cleaning your lamp shades, what were you using? I don’t think I’ve seen one before. I’ve always struggled to find something that cleaned them without making them look worse. A feather duster just does not work. Did you have snow on March 1st too? The snow is so pretty! Here in NC it is already 75 today!!!
I know for sure if u get the crack a bit more level, using olive oil on the wood will seep into the wood and swell it to the original thickness to possibly make the crack virtually impossible to see. I’ve done this with end tables and hardwood floor that have scratches ( one was a gouge from the leg of chair)and the scratches and such are not noticeable at all!

Lady....I needed this video yesterday when it hit (job stress). The snow was gorgeous and so were all of the finishing touches that you made to your newly redecorated space. You might see if you know any cabinet makers as they are skilled in the kind of carpentry that also applies to furniture.

I can relate to having to get your house in order and clean. You for a photo shoot me because I live in a cottage in a senior complex and have an annual inspection coming up. Apart from inside I have 2 patios to tidy up and 2 garden beds. But then place will look good before we go into garden season.
I prefer unique homes any day over trendy and yours is beautiful!! The photo shoot will be amazing. This Canadian got caught in a snowstorm last night that I had to drive 80km in and I have to say I was freaking out! Was the worst one I've ever been in. Can hardly wait for Spring!!

A joiner or carpenter should be able to take the top off and glue and clamp the two pieces back together. I dont know if it is an existing glue join that has let go as the wood has possibly dried over time but taking the top off and clamping it will give a lovely finish. Maybe you could get the top off and take it in to save some pennies.

Your dress is so pretty, and so are you. Kudos to those who researched about your desk. If you can indeed have the crack and mechanism repaired it would be fantastic. It's a lovely antique {over 100 yrs old} and will serve you well for many years to come. So happy you didn't paint it! They don't make furniture like that anymore, sadly. I had to laugh about the snow not even being reported. Maybe it's more convenient to ignore it. 😂😂😂
Beautiful fluffy snowfall. Sorry you were unable to visit the forest. Pretty dress you look lovely. If you could visit a furniture restorer or antique shop ask about the roll top mechanism. Most people will help then you will be able to repair yourself. Congratulations on second book. Enjoyed the video.
