The previous Grand Cherokee model was not as bad as most people would have u think, and this engine carried over from the last model is very reliable. Yes, not being able to tow is a major issue for this car among what should be its natural competition. And yes, it is way overpriced, keeping in mind what its competition should actually be. It's like Jeep woke up one day and decided it's a European luxury SUV. Jeep had a lot to offer as a good all-rounder. Now u have to spend 100k to get a low range transfer case. This car 9 years ago started at 50k, 4x4 and Diesel. I know because i still have mine, that's what I paid new in 2014 and still love it.
Not even kidding or joking about it, one of my relatives bought a seven seater brand new in SA. It sat in Jeep service station for 2 weeks due to engine light turned on just after 5 days of bringing it home and their mechanics were just as clueless about what was happening with the engine. They were waiting for "special diagnostic equipment" coming from Sydney to see what was happening to the car. No wonder jeep is a notorious brand in Australia.

I recently test drove 3 cars back to back and the 7 seat Jeep GC limited was one of them. The Nissan Pathfinder Ti and Hyundai Palisade Highlander where the other two. I convinced both the Nissan and Jeep dealerships to let me keep the cars overnight because I have 3 kids in car seats and a large tent I wanted to put in the boot, the local Hyundai guy wouldn’t come to the party. But I test drove it twice to try make up for it. My favourite was the GC, followed by the Pathy and then the Pali. Pali just didn’t live up to the hype that a lot of journalists are giving it. The safety system bings and bongs truly were a headache to drive with. I really didn’t think the 2.2 diesel is leagues better like journo’s suggest. I thought it was equally ‘just ok’ when compared to the 2 naturally aspirated v6’s in the other two. The centre console juts out in the 2nd row of the Pali, my kids kept knocking it getting in and out and that’s a design fail, would also be annoying to live with. It didn’t have wireless CarPlay, the doors are the biggest of the three (think car parks kids and door dings) it had the most body roll in corners, drink bottle didn’t fit in the door bottle holders and I think it’s the ugliest. Sorry meant to be about the GC. Right well I was seriously shocked at how much better the drive train and driving experience was over the other two and over what reviewers have indicated. It stays quiet flat in corners for a car this size, the engine seriously is fine though definitely not my pick to be the sole engine choice for a car this price range. The limited is better equipped than the Ti Pathy and the infotainment was better i though despite the LHD ghosts. The boot was the smallest of the 3 however, it was longer but my tent didn’t fit width wise like it did in the other two. I thought Jeep could have done better designing the centre console, for such a big car there just wasn’t lots of cubbies and space to put life’s filth. But at least bottle fit in the doors. I’d consider leasing one, but there’s just too much noise about reliability and dealing with Jeep for me to consider buying one. Ultimately we will probably go with Pathy, the other two contenders from Ford and Land Rover you mentioned have a similar amount of noise and disdain for their reliability so as it’s a deal breaker for GC I think even If liked the Defender and Everest it would probably be a deal breaker for them too. I just don’t need off road ruggedness or towing so Pathy might be a good fit. Still wanted to share my thoughts. It’s a shame I think, the platform has the potential to be an excellent contender with a unique selling point of being one of the few monocoque chassis cars with good off-road software. Anyway, overall I can’t speak to Jeep ownership, but I wanted to point out the flaws in the GC aren’t as big and separating as reviewers suggest they are when compared to other NA v6’s and old turbo 4 cylinder diesels. I got the dealer to $82k for the limited and the Pathy was $77k just for reference (Sydney based location.)

Point given I morn the loss of the three V8s & the MV30d. Why debate the size of the Jeep when it’s “6 of one, half a dozen of the other” the same size of the WK JEEP & the Everest !! Ever since we got an X5, I’ve come to love diesel. I can’t believe I’m turning into that guy, but honestly, this car would be amazing with a diesel engine. If I were shopping for an off-roader, I’d pick this over a Toyota.
Definitely a pricey vehicle, BUT if you compare this to a Pelisade,Sorrento,cx90 or a Prado. The quality and room you get in all Jeep these days it’s incomparable. JEEP = all rounder on and off road. Can’t see these in top of the range Hyundai, Kia or even an X5 worth around the same price. The engine should have been revised with slightly more power and torque I agree. Everest is good if you’re not fuss with build quality ( plastic and cheap interior and also road noise). I got a 2016 75th GC WK2 for nearly 4 years now, never missed a beat and also the 7seater GC WL limited what a car. Comfy and great value for money I must say in terms of technology and what you get for.
Not good value, not great reliability, and you can do better with other brands in my opinion. I had a mate who owned a Jeep, not old, not high mileage, so many serous issues there were too many to count. If I was in the market I’d choose Land Rover above Jeep, albeit you’re right, poor reliability in Jeeps as well. Great review and balanced as always. The Jeep isn’t all bad, but it sure asks a lot of money for something that isn’t totally good to own. It’s big, it’s tall and plenty of room for a family, but not for me I’m afraid. It’s like many cars, attractive inside and out, but not attractive to the wallet in terms of price and costs arising during ownership. I wouldn’t keep one beyond its warranty, and wouldn’t rely on it during ownership.
Mine is really beautiful 2023 jeep grand cherokee L, it's great in the snow, but it has electrical issues and my speakers make a loud noise when I turn it on and Bluetooth doesn't always come on all the time. It drives really awesome.
If I have 100k to have fun with, I won't waste it on a suv which will probably give me grief. I'd rather put about 80k on a Ss Rexton plus a decent bnew 14.5 ft fishing boat which will give me hours of glee 😅
Left out the part where it spontaneously combusts and spends the majority of time getting warrantied. LDV D90, Ssangyong, hell even the Tank 300 have interiors that would rival this but at half the money.
To answer your question: no. Or rather, NO! As you pointed out, there's lots of better alternatives for the money. I think your disappointment in the vehicle was... clear, through this review, and I'm glad you didn't hold back. Your honest assessment is what viewers want and more importantly, need. (There's other Australian "reviewers" who seem to give every vehicle they drive between 7.6 and 7.3 lest they offend the distributors and this is so incredibly tedious. Which makes me think, "why bother to watch?") I hope you don't find it difficult to get product of this brand to review in the future, because that would be churlish of the distributor. But I for one, am grateful for your words.
Definitely the best looking SUV. The ride comfort and technology is light years ahead of the Asian alternative. Close to 300 hp from the V6 is more than enough and the ZF 8sp is very smooth. I wished they brought the trailhawk out here.

Big Jeep fan here. I almost bought the pre gen SRT version. I really liked that car even I understood Jeep's bad history with reliability. I didn't pull the trigger quickly enough in the end before they discontinued that model. I had high hope on this gen. And Jeep has slapped my face pretty badly. The price is not the worst part to me since this gen is more premium and more modern. Even it's not on the level of the German luxuries. I don't like the exterior. It looks gutless to me. It's not the Jeep I like. I hate the engine. Thirsty and weak!!! I won't even put it on my bicycle. A natrual v6 for Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in 2023? I don't have high hope on its build quality and reliability. I don't know if it's getting more reliable, but that 5y/100,000km tells me Jeep is not too sure about it either. I think Matt you are too nice to the new Grand Cherokee and I understand it. It's a clear not recommended at all to me. I don't know how much you have to love the brand to put your money down.

Would I buy a Jeep? No. Would I buy a Land Rover? No. Unfortunately these days, Jeeps are overpriced and underwhelming pieces of metal. Sure they may seem like a great buy initially and I'm sure they have the 4X4 credentials to rival some of the best, but I think I'd always be wary of something going wrong. I couldn't imagine paying that much for any vehicle let alone on a Jeep. If I were to buy something else, it would probably be a Ford Everest Platinum or a Volkswagen Touareg V6 diesel. Jeep have now priced themselves out of the market and even out of the hands of loyalists and it's being reflected in the monthly sales figures .... even it's stable mate RAM is now selling more vehicles in Australia than Jeep. Jeep Australia's top management just don't get it, heck even Stellantis keeps having trouble marketing their brands here! I read an article from an American motoring publication stating that even in the US, Jeep have done the same and buyers over there aren't going back to the brand. Never again for a family car. Left me stranded on Fraser island, and then in Coffs Harbour. Jeep assist was great though.
I’d buy the Overland If it had a better engine and was priced at 85% of current asking . Sunroof / headroom is a problem for taller torso drivers
