Welcome back. Your speed running guide for base factorio helped me tremendously in learning the game mechanics. Hope you make one for space age as well!
Used that speedrun guide video and pdf for my own speedruns. Got down to 2h 36m when I stopped... That guide ruined me.... have never been able to build a factory with a proper BUS since 😒 no matter how much I intend to.. it always end up compact speed run style 😎 guess my subconsciously build efficient 😊
It's been a while and I was pleasantly surprised by the new build in the early game^^ Very interesting and entertaining! Glad to see you back. In case nobody points it out later during the stream: 6:37:30 : For spaceship requests: Instead of "Item Count", you can use "Request fulfilled: ..." and not having to reenter the same numbers twice, and it also prevents a possible contradiction between both entries that could get your ship stuck. Plus it reduces the selection to only items that you have set a request for. So it's both faster and eliminates a possible source of errors.
his setting at 7:32:30 could have issues that would be fixed with your suggestion. if the ship returns to gleba with 100 bioflux, it wont request a rocket and it wont leave. one issue is the "auto request missing materials" if something is damaged on the platform and the planet cant supply it
TL; DR: Blue Science died from building a PG to Solid Fuel process instead of buffering plastic/sulfur to use excess PG. --- I think we're significantly underestimating the drain on Petroleum Gas by solid fuel production from PG, and to a much lesser extent some of the landmine use. We know the following from Adv Oil processing with 100% cracking: 1) Heavy Oil is worth 50% of PG when cracked down 2) Light Oil is worth 67% PG when cracked down In terms of equivalent PG cost, the solid fuel recipes contrast a lot harder: i) HO to Solid fuel: 10 PG ii) LO to solid fuel: 6.7 PG iii) PG to Solid fuel: 20 PG(!) - TRIPLE the cost! **Only LO should be used to make solid fuel**. (Even HO makes 50% more solid fuel after being cracked down to LO first) Landmines Check back on the # of landmines produced in the game and equate that to the % of PG and Steel made. 1 landmine costs 3.75 PG in sulfur and 0.25 steel. They 100% benefit the speedrunner by giving back time and attention. The strat benefits from a lot of polishing though. Easily actionable improvements include: Making an early blueprint of a straight line of 50 mines, perhaps with one or two additional layers with the lowest possible density, and using only that BP to place new mines; prioritizing adequate perimeter roboport coverage; choosing a forest map; and reducing pollution in time-saving ways as described below. I'm not going to speculate on potential time saved by attacking nests. However, I do think that instilling habits which reduce pollution would be impactful. The time and energy bots need to spend flying landmines across the whole map is definitely hurting production, ignoring energy and raw material to replace them. Alternatively, I think there's time to be saved by having Nuclear Power online earlier. Replacing ~10,000 pollution per minute from boilers will flatten the curve on resource use for defense (this includes bot flying time, which impacts how quickly outposts gets constructed), and saving a ton in solid fuel/coal consumption, boosting plastic and sulfur availability. I think you could skip the 3rd oil field altogether! I also think that 1 or 2x efficiency 1 modules in the 4x miner blueprint (perhaps even pumpjacks) will save bot time, your time, energy from charging bots, and raw resources from dealing w bugs at a time when these are all at a premium when colonizing new planets. ---- Sidenote: Nefrums repeatedly asks "Why do the biters always find the one gap in my defenses?!" The answer's easy! They bugs are literally attacking every part of your base all the time; the only ones that blow up your buildings are the ones that found gaps. You don't get long long alerts from the 99% of bugs that die in your mine walls. That's survivorship bias! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survivorship_bias
awesome stuff! Just tried to find any speedruns and found none, so timed release, ty for content) I did my run in 90 hours but I probably could do sub 40 as most of the time I was goofing around and building and designing a ton of unnecessary ships and rebuilding/redesigned stuff and at least 40h+ went to grind/gamble quality items. still didn't get a legendary quality module 3 after 30 extra hours after finish (just two mark 2s), probably I'll build a whole base on Fulgora to do this achievement :D
@@CrowdKraut I gamble for tier 3 modules and nothing more, from tier 1 to legendary is hard but I didn't automate the Fulgora superconductors to make legendary ones. I have a stash of legendary ingredients to spare on equipment made in the process, though. I'll take your advice anyway, ty, it makes more sense
@@sashagarmash7853 My approch has its downsides. You need to deal with a bunch of tier two and three material that needs to be used to craft or be recycelt.
I joined a multiplayer game late into the build and i was sent to Gleba as my first assignment (after i killed all the devastators on Vulcanus). The trick is making a blue print with turrets + ammo in map view. Copy the blue print and pasting it down so your construction bots make the turrets and fill them with ammo while you run around and eat fruit to stay alive. You have to also focus the strafer pentapods because they tend to stay out of range and circle the turrets. You will need about 3-5 turrets to deal with the stomper pentapods and small “biters” and nests! 5:30:00
7:30:00 if a rocket silo has things directly inserted into it and they are requested, then it still launches, also you can hover over a building and it will tell you how many resources it makes even accounting for prod and speed modules
There is a trick if you craft a landing pad first it comes with a radar so it makes scouting much easier. You just plop it down as you run around and then deconstruct it as you move along. Makes the selecting of a starter base much easier and faster for speed running! 🏃👍 5:21:00
I've never used Landmines before. Looking at this run, that absolutely will change for whenever I do my next playthrough. Even if just for nest-clearing, how is landmine spam so much better than turrets, tanks, capsules or anything else that isn't nukes and I never knew about it. Just run in, spam the mines and the whole nest blows to smithereens. Wonderful.
The demolishers will charge at your buildings if you build in the territory is correct 👍 they will turn to the building and increase speed as well 7:16:00. Also, a super easy way to kill the demolishers is to use map view and make a blue print with a few turrets preloaded with 10-15 rounds of ammo. Then copy blue print and run to the tail end of the demolisher and plop down about 5-6 turrets with construction bots and almost instantly kill the worms. That way you wont need to wait for poison research or the capsules saving time and rockets 🚀
7:30:08/7:30:12 - FWIW, this latter statement is untrue, in my experience. If you have a rocket full of a cargo that's being requested from space, it'll launch. It probably has to be only one type of cargo, and/or there may be some other sorts of restrictions to it, I'm not sure, but I just re-tested this, and it definitely works. It's great for foundation, for example, so you can just always have rockets ready with that, with other rockets doing general requests.
Good shit. Good to see this run here. I am surprised this doesnt rely on blueprints once rockets are being launched. Seems like it would be faster to blueprint the ship stuff since its construction is limited by planning and rocket silos alone. Im not a fan of gleba but it makes sense for the speedrun. Looking forward to more of these runs. Cheers.
It's hilarious how quickly you got something set up on Gleba - took me ages of agonising creative-world design to make something that wouldn't jam up 😆
Well, they updated soundpack with 2.0, so looting metal things sounds different now. More like every different material sounds somewhat unique. And music - lots of new music for other planets + some for nauvis

Fun fact: The melting point of iron is 1,538°C and the lava is 1,500°C in the starting area 7:21:10. The factoriopedia says lava can go up to 2,000 °C but i don’t know if that breaks the pump 🤣
Am curious because I don't really know... Is the thought behind going to Gleba first primarily the advantage of the biolab and not having to build as many science packs on successive planets?
I would assume for speed running they would want Gleba up and running as early as possible for the lab and that they can just port in the other science from the other planets to Gleba to avoid dealing with spoilage from the Gelba science packs. Or because it's a speed run and the science lab is more important than the other items on the other planets because science is a bigger time gate than building a factory.
