Sure wish this was true. The only reason it isn't is because of how uncommon Conan's feelings are among people as wealthy and successful as he was, is, and unlike a lot of them, deserves to be.
If everyone was like Conan, it absolutely would be true.

@@KaneRobot Well, sure, one way to look at it. But I look at it as a guy who was promised a job for a long time and was fucked over by the company and people he thought he could trust telling people not to be cynical. You, and many others, could probably use that advice, it's easy to be cynical and angry at the world, it's tremendously difficult to be positive and forgiving. Not to mention that every single bit of his money from this 'deal' went to his unemployed staff members.

He torpedoed Lopez's ratings as a lead-in and screwed him out of a job. And no, it was not just the studio's decision. O'Brien could have taken the midnight slot instead (which he could have done at NBC as well). After all these years, I still google this video every few months, along with videos of Apollo and Space Shuttle Launches, along with old specials and clips of Chappelle. Norm closing out Dave Letterman’s Late Show. Real stuff in American History. When the best of humanity is expressed and captured on camera. When the funny people choke up in their brightest/darkest moments. When scientists, engineers and military people collaborate and send men to the moon with video cameras made by people who never thought their inventions would end up in space. Everyone should be required to watch these videos in high school. This is the good stuff.

What a wonderful piece of advice right at the end. Thank you for telling me this Conan. I am currently going through a period in my life where I had a life-changing opportunity taken away from me and your advice was so much of what I needed to hear. Thank you.

The greatest late night host ever. Words cannot even describe how much i admire Conan. He is just such an unbelievably kind human being, always takes the high road, and makes everybody around him look better just by virtue of being there. I'm glad he really seems to get the recognition he deserves.

What's beautiful about what he said is, a couple years later when he does the remote at Madame Tussaud's celebrity wax museum, the end of his goodbye speech was his notable quote. I have watched this video alot of times in my life during some of the worst times of my life and it never fails to pull me through, so I'm glad it was his notable quote, because it is one of Conan's most unforgettable moments.

I will never forget this night. I was seriously watching in disbelief. I was 12 in 93 when he first started his late night show and every night I would turn on my (for some weird reason) tiny black and white TV and turn the volume way down so I wouldn't wake my parents. The funny thing was at school the next day, everyone else did it too! Even teachers would talk to us about Conan! Everyone I knew got the comedy and LOVED IT! When he got the Tonight show though... I was through the roof! Finally he is getting what he deserves! It was a beautiful moment for us fans. Andy coming back was legendary too! But the show was even better than I ever could have guessed. I will always hate Jay Leno for destroying this perfect show.

This speech literally made me incredibly self aware of my own cynicism and that of others. In no small way it kinda changed my life, which on reflection is a weird thing to say but it's true. Everyone makes mistakes, nobody is perfect, so long as we try and be better (even if it doesn't come naturally and even if we fail), so long as we try and occasionally succeed I feel like we'd all enjoy being here a lot more.
