Melancholic magic. I consider the title of this tune to be a metaphor. A metaphor for one's last moments in life, taking that last train home. At 3:24 as the singing begins-I can see souls greeting me as I arrive home. :-)
I always listen to this on friday evenings, on my way back from university. The sun sets, my body is weary. Around me I see others with their minds far outside the bus, travelling to places I could not hope to reach.
this speaks to more than a commuter after work taking the last train home. This speaks of a soul who is seeking to return to his lost love. This is his last chance to return to "HOME", home to the only thing he holds dear in his life. All else matters not. ONLY HOME!
First heard this song on a Publix commercial. Loved the song and thats when i became aware of Pat Metheny Group. It took years before i found out who it was, i think i ended up hearing the same tune on public radio so i called in and inquired about who it was. Indeed a classic to me
several years ago i went into a used cd shop in south st louis and heard this playing overhead. i heard just a few bars of this and bought the only copy of this cd the store had. i cannot tell you how beautiful, wistful a song this is for me. thanks so much for your artistry and creativity.
Summer with John and Trevor I will never forget how much Methany we listened to day and night inside outside. We may as well have been on an island. Music for my soul and rest in peace John and Trevor I will never forget you.
The time has come to move on....the seasons are changing....leaving the old to embrace the new....unfamiliar grounds awaits me....the feelings of sadness mixed with gladness moves within me....come sweet death, come.
Another beautiful piece of art that Hirohiko Araki and David Productions have brought to me. As big as the moment hearing Yes-Roundabout the first time. Thank
There just seems to be something fascinating about rail road tracks. I'm not a rail road aficionado of trains. But, I enjoyed your accompanying photos to this great Metheny musical piece.
this was the 90's and this was the music used by toyota corolla. i sounded so magnificent my mom bought the toyota corolla- for me. hehe! then i heard this on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and i just had to listen this again! brings back memories of good times.
@Joy George: It's a sitar emulator--I believe Vox put out that model in the 70s? I've seen him play it live, and it's not his Roland synthesizer/ It's the Methodist-church-sounding chorale that breaks me up. I'm not even Christian LOL. Nice going, Lyle, bringin' a little of your church organ experience into this beautiful homage to an America long past.
Brings back memories of 94.7 Wave smooth Jazz before they went to hip hop crap. Thank you Keri Tombazian and Don Burns for great wave memories. I'll take them with me.
This was the cut that introduced me to the Pat Metheny Group on WNUA-Chicago in the 80's. I don't think they play jazz anymore. They should go back to a jazz format. I'm sorry that they switched from it.
To me this represents all the people, their hard work and sacrifices still bearing their burdens and on their last train watching in disbelief at what we have allowed to happen to our country through the acceptance of a communist in our highest office - not once but twice! The melancholy is that they are not here anymore to help us right so terrible a wrong -- It is up to me and us -- One more train and we can give up what we call Home. A beautiful piece to inspire restoration of our Republic
Wow, my very first Pat Metheny number! (Had never heard of them before.) This video came up as a recommendation on the right panel when I was listening to Dave Grusin. (Need about an hour or two of him everyday to get me though.) Could someone tell me if the instrument that's featured in this number is a sitar? Even if it's something on the syntensiser, was it meant to evoke the sitar? Be great if someone can clarify. Thank you. And I love the Pat Metheny sound.
your video is cute but this music is not about trains and tracks! rather it speaks of a state of the soul, for example, the condition sweetly nostalgic and tired of a commuter who, after work, take the last train back home. do not you think? ^ _ ^ Sorry my english ...

I will never forget listening to Pat play this song live and We were lucky enough to be sitting about 6 feet away from him. Absolutely magical!

Love this!! Evokes lots of memories of travelling to...and from...special people in my life.

So long, JoJo.
So calming and soothing.
EVEN SPEEDWAGON IS CRYING!!!!
The human experience in a song. How can that be?

With this I sit back and relax and let my mind travel to many states and out of the country.

Lol it blew my mind when I heard it. I cant believe that they used this track.

「もうすぐで全てが終わるな」って感じの曲だな~。アニメやドラマでいえば、最終回少し前に入った、学校でいえば、卒業2~3か月前って感じ。
음악이랑 영상이랑 정말 좋아요~!! Music good , picture good !
色々と思い出す大事な曲です。
I love!!! ..Perfect....Thanks
ジョジョを見たら久々に聞きたくなりましたwwww

Loved it :)
Супер музыка.
Супер слайдшоу.
Sweet music!
SUPERBE MUSIQUE !
Hermosa canción...!!
I am actually impressed! A+ GREAT JOB GMGB68 on paying omage to Pat.
The keyboardist, Lyle Mays, plays like Bruce Hornsby on this. You can hear chords like the ones Bruce Hornsby plays :)
Cool track, though :)
My brother works at CSX in Jacksonville so this is for him.
