Some of my fondest automotive memories were visiting Stratton of Wilmslow-the UK concessionaire for AMG in the mid 1980’s with my dad-I would have been around 15 years old. My dad was a lifelong MB fan and always ran S Class models-mostly 500 series.I wanted him to buy a brand new AMG 500SEC but he wasn’t a fan of the de chrome and Recaro electric seats they used to put in them instead of the MB chairs(my dad hated leather and always had ‘Brazil’ cloth or velour in his cars). The mechanic who used to fit/convert/service the AMG engines for Stratton was only 18 years old at the time and still works in the Manchester area as a Ferrari/Porsche specialist. He fixed an intermittent problem with my Ferrari F355 that no one else could diagnosed a while back.Fast Lane magazine was a UK publication that always featured AMG - I was fascinated by their work and how they could reliably extract supercar performance from MB engines.I totally agree that pre merger AMG cars will be more sought after as the years go by.Keep up the great work guys and greetings from the UK. Will Howarth
I had a _lowly_ 1985 380SEC in the early 2000's, it was slow as hell, but I enjoyed rolling around in it. In spite of its age, it had a real presence about it. Mine was two tone, and had replica AMG wheels. I have fond memories of that car.
Glad you finally did the story on this car, f..king gorgeous, I think these big coupes are very cool, I've got a banana yellow 560sec in my collection, & I've driven it up & down the Australian east coast many times, just a big strong performance car that eats up the highway, Rj in Oz
Wow, you certainly took that for a Spin, John! My good friends Father had an S600 with the V12 in it. Just down the street from me in Toronto. I should find out if he still has it or what he has in his Garages and let you know if there's anything interesting. Great video and as always, My Best to You, Senja and your two Gorgeous boys! You should definitely get L.J. into Modeling if you haven't already. I Love him and J. to pieces but there's never been a bad photo of L.J. Stay Safe and Healthy T. FAMILY! ❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
Glad to see you putting your right foot down John but tell your editor to keep those donuts in real time and not 1.5-2.0x speed. Your target audience is pure car enthusiast and we notice. Love the stories and history on these legendary cars.

Well absolutely everyone did that to their cars for that time period in Germany with the autobahn where you could drive the piss out of them. The bare minimum were lowering springs and staggered wheels and tires. The wheels should of be Ronal 9 If I’m remembering correctly, my dad had 560SEC as well those cars were space ships for that time. Mercedes even had automated arms that extended the seatbelt out to you which was super pimp for being the 80s great car👍🏻🤩😎
The KE-Jetronic fuel system is tricky if you don't know what you're doing. But other than that, these cars are notorious for having bulletproof reliability.
@@joaquinfranco9012 thanks for the response. Any chance of learning what something like this cost? Looks like there is a wide range and your model is tremendously rare and in great condition.
@@JV220 Not my car. But, I own a Mercedes-Benz from that era. Nothing of the same caliber, though. These 6.0s definitely go for a touch under a half mil all day.
little boy telling us that owned them back in the 80s how they are...Im always laughing at the mouthpieces trying to school us that are a bit older had a nice red one in the 80s all blinged out in chrome... with gold

I can honestly say I've been to spin class today... Thanks John!
Proud Benz owner here! Wow!! AMG in the 80s is what made me become a car enthusiast and car artist. Even my dad bought one of these in 86.
FINALLY NICE TO SEE YOU PLANT YOUR FOOT IN A VEHICLE 🙂
This and an F40. My dream garage. Thank you for making/sharing these videos John!
3:36 Crazy that this 385 horsepower boat from the 80's could go 200mph but a modern 662hp Shelby Mustang can't.
It's all gearing. Nobody needs to go 200mph on a street so the manufacturers don't bother gearing it for that. They want usable road/track power
@@amazin7006 .. needs not really, but trust me it’s fun….😉

An Absolute Legend!!!!!
Nowadays, Mercedes will throw an AMG badge on any I4 or V6 turbo they sell.
Great video! Thank you again for helping me re-live my childhood, every time you present one of these iconic classics. LoL....
Would love, love one of these for a daily driver!
this all because of the way, the Diablo track day in the rain went. SEND IT !
hahahahaha I redeemed myself?
@@WeAreCurated You certainly did !
Awesome. We do no see those in south Africa in amg form
This is my dream car.😪 I wish i could own this..Such a beast
Nice!
Best looking with the slim Euro bumpers and “wipered” euro headlights. Designed to be “stealth”daily drivers ,like Alpina is to BMW.
I like the fact that you spelt doughnuts correctly.
AMG FTW 😎
Sick.
BRABUS 6.5 please
…😉 maybe soon…..
Bring this ride out tomorrow for our vintage Benz club meet at Beat Culture brewery!
Send it 🗣
Love this car
Its fine, send it!
Thank you John for all your amg content. My dream car is a 2014 c63 👊🏽👊🏽

Nice donuts!
John. Just saw Dennis Collins has a set of Miura wheels that have never been mounted.
Thats sick!
That car is capable of burning those tires down to nothing with no effort
For a sec I thought that was John doing the donuts
The German Creature
John’s ponytail makes me uncomfortable but I still subscribed
So gangster 💪

John, WTF are you doing?!! 😳
It's a Benz!! 😬
John, What is with the Helmet ⛑️?
Rules for the location we were using. It's a race track so they mandate it.
Nice!!!
The original owner just had a Heart attack watching him trash his old car
These cars were built to use and not be show queens. Mercedes' from that era like to be used. They hate sitting for too long.
No LSD?
Thumbs down for leaning on the car!.......thumbs up for the skids!
If I could afford the car I guess I could afford the tires!! But not to both

Hard to look past those huge US bumpers
