Long time viewer, ive always felt de shaving is the perfect nostalgic gateway to strait shaving. It takes a lot of practice, time, and care, but with things that take practice, time and care, the reward is greater. Thanks for mixing it up!
Awesome shave Paul, I was super stoked to see you bust out the straight :) you definitely have to make more videos with that blade, she sure loves to sing, that one. Don't worry if you seem quiet, I think we all love straight razors because they force us to be present on what we're doing. Cheers!!!
That’s a beautiful blade - it looks super versatile, especially if you’re far more used to DE razors. And great to see you breaking out straights for a change!:)
Hi Paul I'm not sure who is more nervous watching this you or me. Glad to see the floral display isn't Red and White. Well done I kept expecting the t screen to turn Red.Glad to see you got through it virtually unscathed. Keep well and keep safe. I can relax now.
Happy Sunday Paul! I love the colorful flowers, thank you Mrs. H!! Well, for something completely different, eh? That is a proper straight razor. I learned to hone, strop, and shave a straight razor in barber college. While I can shave someone else, I could never manage to shave myself without botching the job completely. Pity really. Best of luck to you my friend. Just remember to keep the blade at a 20° Angle and lead with the tip of the blade. SOTD: 2021 Rocnel Sailor Adjustable razor [5/4/3] loaded with a Feather Hi-Stainless blade (12th use...yes 12!). Proraso Red shaving soap, face lathered with a WCS Beacon 24 mm synthetic brush. Finished with Thayer's AF SF skin toner and Truefitt & Hill Sandal Wood aftershave balm. Smooth and smelling good. Paul, that was a good effort there. If I can give any advice, it would be to always stretch the skin taut before you shave that area. Stay healthy and take care.
I respect straight razor shavers but I have to be honest and say it’s not my cup of tea. I am glad I got to see an unpracticed shaver, one who is so comfortable with DE/SE razors in particular. It was an interesting change of pace so thanks for trying something different and sharing it with us.
Excellent shave! No serious bloodletting. SotD: Mühle R41, new Nacet blade, RazoRock WTP soap (face lather-no bowl), Omega S-Brush (wooden handle), cheapo witch hazel w/alcohol, and Stephen's Astringent After Shave. Pretty nice, actually. MotD: Spaghetti with Clemenza sauce, baked butternut squash, and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Perhaps a little Chianti to go with the pasta. Best wishes to all.
Great shave Paul I was so nervous watching you. Never used one may try in the future but now I’m happy with my routine. Thank you Mrs H beautiful arrangement, both of you be safe and well.
A very different shave for sure...and impressive too. Straight razor shaving makes me like DE shaving even more. But I'm sure your straight razor shaving fans enjoyed the departure from your usual shaves. Be sure and tell Mrs. H that her flower display was as beautiful as always. Take care and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
Beautiful flower arrangement, Mrs H - one of your best yet. I love your gorgeous creations, so thank you for taking the time to treat us to a new display on every video. Excellent video, Paul. I thoroughly enjoy this one and the time went really quickly. Such lovely products. John June's razor looks absolutely beautiful; I'll have to invest in one very soon, I think. 10/10. Please keep up the good work, Paul and Mrs H. Wednesdays and Sundays wouldn't be the same without you. Cheers, Bobby Gillette.
Nice video again Paul. Glad you didn't leave your face in the sink. Really don't mind the video being longer than usual. You shaved much quicker than I would have done. 🏴👍
Been waiting for this straight razor shave since you announced it on Wednesday. I haven't used a SR yet but I'm definitely looking forward to giving it a try one day.
Good morning Paul. Absolutely stunning flowers by Mrs H so colorful I really love it. When I was tired of buying these expensive and plastic made cartridges I got me a straight razor. Because I thought it's the most traditional way of shaving and I had a straight razor shaves before at barber shops when I was on vacation in Spain and always enjoyed the shave and the outcome. So I got me one and shaved, bad idea and bloody like after a car wreck where you hit the windshield. Since then it stands on the self unused. Have a great Sunday and stay safe 🪒 💈
I can help you, honestly, the JJ Shorty is shorter for exactly that reason. The razor you bought will need a hone, every straight is sold “shave ready” buy I can assure you they are not. I’ll put the same edge Paul used and it’s very forgiving. Start with sideburns and cheeks, finish with DE. Then gradually move to more and more SR and less DE, in no time at all you’ll be fine.
I have been a straight razor shaver for many years. What I suggest to people who are using a straight razor for the first time is, ‘do not be afraid but respect the blade’. Take your time and use the blade, the whole length. First pass, with the growth. Roughly 2” (50mm) strokes. Second pass, against the growth. Third pass, with the growth, light full length strokes. Then trim in side burns and van dyke. I never run water over the blade, but wipe clean after every use. But…..that’s just me. Good shave Paul. Use this blade more often.
Nicely done Sir Paul💈💈 Mrs H did a fantastic job today with that explosion of color, took care of any clashing in case the claret came to surface. Good go with the shorty straight razor, getting the feel is paramount, especially on the first try. No need to rinse the PAA Cube off before applying lather, it's a lather booster also. The soap worked well it seems, made a nice lather. SOTD: PAA Cube, Mr Fine "American Blend" soap/splash, PAA synth brush, RazoRock "Wunderbar" slant razor w/Perma Sharp blade, witch hazel and AV 5in1 balm...Beautiful. Great video with some drama mixed in, no worries, no issues. Enjoy your Sunday.
Beautiful display by Mrs H, and man, a straight razor shave is a nice change!! My Sunday SOTD will be the Wilkinson Sword Sticky with a Feather blade, Wolf Whiskers Badger Brush, PAA Cube 2.0, Ariana and Evans Apricity Soap and Aftershave, with some Ariana and Evans Post Shave Serum to finish the shave. Meal of the day will be some Grilled Shrimp along with a Grilled Ribeye, baked potato, Caesar salad, street corn, and collard greens. Have a wonderful day and stay safe!!!!
Noice razor! You've inspired me to blow the dust off of my only shavette to give it a second try tomorrow (Sunday here in BC, eh?) with only a hint of trepidation. 😟 It's a "Strong Leopard 74-A" that uses a whole DE blade. Got it loaded with the same *SHARK Stainless* blade that only did one pass on my left side of my face before my resolve broke & l grabbed a tried and true DE from my stable of face scrapers. 😦 lt should go well... l will be caffeinated & focused before l embark on this shave.
What a shave Uncle Paul! There were times when I was holding my breath! I was so nervous for you! But well done 👏 I haven’t tried a straight before, maybe in the future🙈
Good day Paul You did really well with that blade 👍 Good thing you shaved before drinking that Goblin from the Hot & spicy last night 😉 Thanks for the great video as always Paul.
Hi Paul. Good job. Not for me though. I still have a small scar from when I tried a straight. Maybe some day I`ll give it another go. Hope you and Mrs. H. have a good week.😊
nice one sir you have not lost your touch great shave , yes john does a great job on those razors . and for a beginner i think they are fantastic . believe it or not that started out as a gold dollar . bobby g’s strops are amazing i have 2 of them 👍
Well done! It takes some getting familiar with for certain, i am amazed you did as well as you did! I used to have a Parker straight razor and i remember cutting myself badly! Only wet shaves for this guy!
Excellent shave. I think I'd like to get one of those razors myself. Am glad you enjoyed the soap. I have the Scheermonnik 1778 (sans Beau Brummel), and I think it is essentially the same soap.
Very nice shave sir. That’s a nice straight razor, haven’t used mine is a while. Maybe it’s time to give it a few passes on the wet stone and shave with it.
I'm always holding on to my chair when I watch a straight razor shave. It's a whole different game using one of those. You did an excellent work Paul. Glad that the deep red was only present in Mrs H roses rather than your face.
Great effort Paul👍 You looked really nervous 🤣😂🤣 As you know, I do straight shaves every Wednesday and have come to really enjoy the experience. John (JJ Shaves) is a great guy and produces some amazing razors (I have two of his Shorty razors). There are some great Straight Razor channels out there like Shave & Butcher and Matti Lindholm. The latter has just finished a series of straight razor tutorials which I have added to a playlist on my channel. You will find some great tips if you watch that series. The only other thing I would add is use more water when lathering the soap than you usually would. The wetter the lather, the slicker the lather👍 Looking forward to Wales 🏴 Vs New Zealand 🇳🇿 next weekend 👍 I hope you have a great day out filming 🙂
Very nice straight. Especially for XTG. Is the handle on the RazoRock 400 very comfortable? I hope to get one if they offer it with a 26mm knot. Thanks for your videos!
Love those speckled coloured lilies in MrsH's arrangement, lilies were my mother's favourite display flowers. I very careful straight shave today, well done though. Take care and keep safe Paul.
in the past the cowboys ,mexican charros and argentinian guachos were using the leather soles of their boots to sharpen their shaving knives, saludos robert
Wow, extremely well done my friend! That was a thing of beauty, especially since you don’t use one regularly! Kudos to Mrs. H for the spectacular arrangement!
Good morning Paul. Wow that was a really cool shave. I'm not of I'm ready to switch over but it was definitely great to watch. SOTD Fine Accoutrements Italian Citrus shave soap and after shave splash. AP SynBad 24mm knot with white marble handle. Parker Variant Rose Gold Adjustable with a Nacet blade. Thirsty Badge Shave Bowl. Take care.
Lovely straight that Paul wow I was watching this like a little old lady watching a horror movie then Glenda was watching also Grasping my arm you know what women are like watching tense moments 🤣 she said please mark your not thinking of using one, no darling I'm not I'm sticking to de great shave Paul you did great, I had visions after this video that doors of the local church flew open and you ran to the alter and fell to your knees and said thank you lord, good stuff wood spice great video Paul enjoyed it take care and have a great week both 😀👍
Interesting change of pace & tools with an equally intriguing shave soap. Original idea, that straight razor, for those not always in favor of the longer blade. I've not picked up my shavette for i dunno three months after it bit me on the cheek. You displayed good technique with a delicate touch, notable for someone who hasn't used a straight razor for a year or two. Have a good week!
Good on you Paul, minimal blood. I could tell you did get more comfortable with it as the shave went on. I felt like I was watching myself, I rarely use a straight edged style shaver. That is a beautiful razor though, hopefully you'll stick with it. Be safe and take care.
Admire your courage. I don't have a steady enough hand for a straight. It does have a nostalgic appeal.. Don't need another rabbit hole. SOTD was the Futur on 2.5 on pass 1 and 2. Two other 3rd. With a 4th. use Voshkod. Always happy with how good that baby shaves. Makes me smile. Stirling Baker Street one of my favorite scents. Thayers Lavender witch 🧙♀️ hazel. Pinaud Clubman. Lunch out with my oldest grand daughter (16) named Hope. Happy times to all.
A awesome shave👌 I do like to mix things up when shaving, but think I might give the cut throats a miss, seem to take forever, the Twig will do fine. Cheers🍻
I see you did a rare straight razor shave. Nice! Great flowers by Mrs. H, gorgeous colors, almost Tropical looking. My Shave of the Day on Sunday just after noon time. I tried putting a link in my comment to The Shave Den website to show my Shave of the Day, but it keeps getting deleted by youtube. :(
My grandpa was a barber by trade, but farmed most of his life. He gave me one of his straight razors. I wonder what he would think of seeing people shave online today. We would have some great conversations I bet.
scheermonnik " delft's wit " is maybe the nicest scent of this artisan soap maker , delft is a famous city in holland where you can find marvelous porcelain pottery and the wit ( white ) ones are very beautiful .
Great effort Paul, In my opinion you need to stretch the skin a lot more and use your wet alum block to creat the grip on the skin with your stretch fingers. Check out Pedro shaves, and for a dare check out his 5 minute straight razor shave, not for the faint hearted. 🥴
Good morning Paul. Beautiful flower's Mrs H. Paul I'm looking at getting a rockwell model T2 what's your thoughts? I'm currently using the outlaw de razor by executive shaving co thanks in advance
I have the Rockwell Model T first one, so not sure if T2 has any differences, I like the Model T, works well, on the aggressive side, but good solid razor.

beau in french means good looking or bello en Spanish, this person beau brummel was an English dandy , dedicated to the world of fashion , at the end of his life he lived in France .
I gave up on my Thiers Issard after a few tries because I hated the handling. Too awkward. I prefer the feel of a safety much more. And you can't beat the sharpness of an industrially honed blade.
Long time viewer, ive always felt de shaving is the perfect nostalgic gateway to strait shaving. It takes a lot of practice, time, and care, but with things that take practice, time and care, the reward is greater.
Thanks for mixing it up!
Very nice.Reminds me of my grandfather,,, he ran a barbershop in Madrid. Straight razor + Lea + Floid +talco pouder.... excellent.Thank you Paul.
"Boss, I'm gonna be late for work today." "Why?" "Cos I'm straight shaving. " " You're promoted!"
Awesome shave Paul, I was super stoked to see you bust out the straight :) you definitely have to make more videos with that blade, she sure loves to sing, that one. Don't worry if you seem quiet, I think we all love straight razors because they force us to be present on what we're doing. Cheers!!!

Well done Sir! Good to see you with a straight. JJ Shorty is a very nice razor I enjoy using them. Have a good week!
Excellent video John June certainly knows his stuff, he recently revamped a straight razor for me his work is 1st class 👍

Hi Paul, its been ages as far as I remember when you used a straight razor in your shave last time - respect nice razor and great shave.
Beautiful razor straight way! Have checked out Mr John June's channel, his shaving technique with straight razors seems spot on. Regards.
JJ does some very nice work and is a superbly helpful bloke, Paul.
Been waiting for this straight razor shave since you announced it on Wednesday. I haven't used a SR yet but I'm definitely looking forward to giving it a try one day.

Nice blade. I used one once about 20yrs ago, think ill stick with DE lol. Although like you said, its traditional. Have a good week

Beautiful shave! Love and Best Regards from Denmark
Thank you, Paul, have a nice week. On Wednesday, I look your new Video! I promise you.
Wauw, "scary movie" Paul ! I'll stay with my Rockwell T2 and Voskhod blade (3°)
I see you did a rare straight razor shave. Nice! Great flowers by Mrs.
H, gorgeous colors, almost Tropical looking. My Shave of the Day on
Sunday just after noon time. I tried putting a link in my comment to The Shave Den website to show my Shave of the Day, but it keeps getting deleted by youtube. :(
Paul you are not afraid, nothing for me,my face must be in one place 😄 my sotd merkur progress ,royal Forrest, voskhod, and Simpson brush bagger gr🇳🇱
My grandpa was a barber by trade, but farmed most of his life. He gave me one of his straight razors. I wonder what he would think of seeing people shave online today. We would have some great conversations I bet.

I have done a few straight shaves under five mins!
Oh, you can see the look of nervousness on my face then, can you?
I am holding my flipping breath!
Gives me anxiety just watching. Lol. Glad to watch. Maybe one day I will jump into it but for now DE only for me lol. Beautiful blade though.
What is this homemade Humphrey withazel youre always using? Can you explain that?
SOTD Rockwell 6S plate no. 4 with Rockwell blade, Zi Peppino Soap, Semogue 830 boar brush, Gummy Tobacco a/s, Arko Nem blackberry cream
It seems a good quality soap
Paul you are just as good using a traditional straight razor as you are with a shavette and a de safety razor all 3 will give you equal results. With enough practice with a straight you'll be shaving like geofatboy .
Thanks for letting me know about Dick Emery. The guy is hilarious.
paul , is using the shavette not less dangerous ?
Shavettes are more dangerous, they have nasty corners.
Good morning Paul!
Good morning ☀️ Paul looks like a smooth shave and a long shave I will stick with a D.E. Thanks for the shave god bless
I was holding my breath all the time you were shaving. The chin area in particular looked difficult. I think I’ll stick with the de razor.
WOW no way i´d use a straight razor i´m too shakky and not ambidextrous, anyway great shave and video brave stuff fun stuff as well like always, Also Flowers are as usual beautiful. Stay safe, cheers. Peter
👍👍👍🇩🇰 Well done
I am nervous… can’t help it 💈
scheer monnik in dutch means monk dedicated to shaving
DE is so much better isn't it? All the hassle and the care you need to put into a straight shave... Is it really worth it? I don't think so.
It’s very much worth it, there’s not much extra care at all once you make the routine your normal. I’m in the shave cave less than twenty mins.
I think they are Gold Dollar bladescut down
JJ do you restore de razor 🪒
Great video Paul but I would not trust my self with one
