I still remember the conversations my brother and I used have during our travel to Chidambaram from Chennai in Chozhan Express in 90s fighting over the power of Electric and Diesel Loco 🤣
Nostalgia at its best ! I saw an old friend 6281 standing peacefully in Tiruvarur siding. 6281 6287 ( with red and yellow livery matching the Vaigai Express) 6130 6330...all these brilliant YDM4s used to work the Vaigai exp Pandian , Rockfort and other iconic trains. The typical tractor like sound of the loco is music!! You must gift this video to the railway archives. Once Tiruvarur station was famous for its cooperative Milk sold on the platform..don't know now !
never travelled in a meter gauge train... but seen them so many times on my way to Velankanni at Ponmalai and Thiruvarur railway stations.. at the first moment I was in love with them...It was a rare feeling when my train stops at Ponmalai. I would look out for the old metre gauge tracks.. and feel something is missing... It's a sad thing that the metre gauge trains are no more... also I never had an oppurtunity to travel in the metre gauge Kollam Sengotta train route. But recently I travelled through that route in broad gauge. after that I regret that I would have made that trip earlier before the gauge conversion.. It would have been much better in metre gauge....😊😊😊 anyway.. keep up the good work...
Travelled up and down by this train.. my last meter gauge journey.. After seeing lord Piravaimarundeswarar in Thiruturaipoondi town.. Tiruthuraipoondi Jn to Tiruvarur Jn évening train .. to Thayagaraja temple Next morning Thiruvarur To Pattukkottai ... then by bus to Mannargudi Rajagopalaswami temple. Worderful and Nostalgic experience.. Thanks for this video
I have travelled in metre gauge from Madras Egmore to Madurai by metre gauge in the year 1983. Thereafter, from Madurai to Rameswaram by night train M.G.
On my last visit Nov 2017, from Trichy to Nagapattinam, the entire stretch has been converted to broad gauge. I traversed this route before the Tsunami, which was closed at that time for gauge conversion. There was a setback during the Tsunami where most of newly laid broad gauge tracks were washed out. Today there are few signs of the once beautiful metre gauge track - rather sad
In my childhood every year used to travel from Chennai Egmore to Mayiladuthurai by meter gauge chair car Chozan Exp and return to Chennai Egmore by Train 110. Missing my memorable days
Sir the steam crane at 0:45 , ydm4 idle at 08:30 , sound and trashing , old building, waiting hall, signal box, and the primitive interlock gate, lower quadrant Semaphore signals bring tears 💧😢 to my eyes. In the British days a points man's job was to lock the points for passing the train and then unlock the signal lever for signalling. That's why he/ she is designated as Pointsman/ woman. And the signal box is just a box with all levers. lock there, unlock here. Nothing else in the box. This may not be known to most pointsmen today.
Natrajan.... Puthandu Nalvaztukal to u & ur parents. Yes, metre gauge travel is awesome. We took afternoon train from Ehzumbur to Rameshwaram & back. I don't remember the train no. It was metre gauge. Awesome run. Rewinded me back to those days. Mega Nandri. Only memory remains. Take care. God bless u.

I remember that old signal cabin and signal posts on Shoranur- Nilambur line. Got replaced with electric signals now. Bro do a visit to Nilambur route after monsoon when you get time.
Those blue colored coaches ? Equipped with vacuum brake or air brake bcs i have heard that blue icf comes with air brake whereas red icf comes with vacuum brake
Natarajan,A food for thought. Since you are from B'lore if you can catch hold of some of old photographs of city station way back 1960's. The present 1St.platform was narrow gauge to Dhoddaballapur. The 2nd one B.G.towards Chennai. 3rd,4th,&5th towards Poona&Mysore M.G.The Goods Yard was in Cottonpet south of city Station. The S.M's office was in-between P.F 2&3.There was no Mejestic, Bus Stand. The city Buses will come inside till present portico. If you can find any retd. Rly.employees basically from the Anglo Indian community, the may have old photographs. Chennai has old collection including the first station Rayapuram.I know it's not easy to reconstruct history. My best wishes.
Platform No.1 NG line was towards Bangarpet via Yeshwantpur, Yelahanka, Devanahalli, Chickkaballapur, Kolar Platform No. 3,4 & 5 was also for Hyderabad MG line via Yeshwantpur, Yelahanka and towards Poona via Yeshwantpur, Hubli
But there's no metre gauge train on the route. In 1985, I took a steam engine driven Katwa passenger from Howrah to Nabadwip Dham. It was so serene then. I long for those days.
Always regret not travelling by meter gauge. Spent 3 years in coimbatore, where I could have taken the palakkad pollachi meter gauge, but didn't do it.
The normal MPS on metre gauge was 90 kmph with 50 kmph restriction through station limits for token exchange ( single line sections ). The Vaigai Express introduced between Chennai Egmore and Madurai was the 1st MG train booked at MPS 100 kmph ..restricted between Sholavandan and Dindigul stations. On the congested suburban section from Egmore to Chinglepet it was a permanent speed restriction of 80 kmph for this train and 75 kmph for other trains till passing Chinglepet.

Once upon a time metregauge trains ruled maximum parts of Tamilnadu. Now all in memory only. Thank you friend for this video
I have travelled from Madurai to Madras Egmore by Vaigai meter gauge express। The green and Yellow livery are unforgettable.

A throwback in time as far as the signals go..
Names of tamilnadu villages and stations are filled with divine fragrance.
Antha YDM, semma enna oru gambeeramana notching sound, athellaam kettu romba naalachu. Simply superb
Its a very sad thing the meter Guage trains no more to see
Great Effort .History recorded . Applauses
Quite nice. I particularly liked the stop at Tirunellikaval. A relative worked there for some time!

While BG trains are brute speed, MG trains are the classic ones, what with their beautiful oscillations
MG engines will also run at max 110 to 120 kmph comfortably but bogie pulling capacity is less than BG...my father worked as railway driver
YDM4s were the kings at that time. Reminds me Bodinaikannoor

Waiting
At 8:30, as per railway's regulations, the guy is supposed to hold the green flag in his left hand & red flag in right hand...
Its not Mandatory :)
Red flag in right hand is preferred since most of the people are right handed :)
Awesome clips...
superb
Why I can't see the comments? Anyways awesome video.
