One of my favourite characters was of a dwarf scribe who went off on adventures to write a book of beasts that plagued the area of my ancestral realm. Trying to find ways to best the beasts in order to see my home restored to its for more glory. Eventually after many in game years with the apparent goal in sight, my book was destroyed resulting in my character becoming a dwarf slayer. I then started tattooing monster info onto my character with the express intention of having my body returned if possible to my hold.
Back in time, in either Dragon or Dungeon magazine, there was a series of short stories about a group of characters, I think known as the Monster Hunter's Club. It would describe their adventures in hunting down a particular monster. So this book seems similar.
Same problem with my eyes and getting older. :) That's one reason I love the fact that you get pdfs with the physical book (even at my FLGS through Bits and Mortar) so I can zoom in to something like 250%! :))
