    I have it and have taken it on one Europe trip so far and taking it on a 6 week Europe trip next month. Love it. Some of my initial worries about things that were lacking from the Pro version ended up not being an issue for me at all (lack of admin panel, no separation in laptop compartment). The one thing I wish they did do was make the front vertical pocket run the length of the bag instead of just the middle section.

      I love that size pocket bc things get lost in a cavernous space. If something is that big, I'm putting it inside the bag.

    Took this bag on a 17 day trip across Europe and it performed beautifully in and out of planes, buses, and ferries. It was super comfortable and I found it surprisingly sleek for a 40L bag. It even fit under the seat on a few of my flights (granted I'm 5'6"). Only gripe I really had is I wish the laptop compartment was a little more secure/taught with a sleeve like Aer TP3. My 13" Macbook Air was just drowning in that compartment.

      yea its a big laptop compartment, but that shouldn't result in any security issues, it should be very safe while its drowning in ther elol

    Great review, and I'm digging the feature set on this backpack. This bag reminds me of my Patagonia mini MLC, which I've been very happy with -- but this Tortuga seems an upgrade in a couple of key areas -- additional quick access side pocket and beefier harness system.

    Great review as always! Seems to be a great backback, but for me German guy too late. Yesterday tried some famous travel backpacks in a German Outdoor shop and ordered the latest Osprey Dayltite 44l Travel Pack. Feels much better than the Farpoint (don't like the hip belt), e.g., and other ones. I like the development, that there is some new lite versions of the famous backpacks. I'll use it for a one bag 7kg almost 4 weeks SE Asia roundtrip soon. It looks so small.

      But it seems the harness is not further updated for the increased weight carry.

      @@DaemonViews for me, male, 1.73 small, even the 35l version of the daylite is way better and comfortable than the Farpoint putting 6 kg over-all fake weight inside. I think that's a (my) very subjective opionion.

    I’m trying to find a bag to bring to Switzerland for 2 weeks. I am looking at 35-40l and this is one of my top contenders. I want something with stowable straps and waist belt (or at able to be covered like on the farpoint 40). I don’t need the organization sections or a laptop compartment since I don’t bring a laptop with me. The torture lite is a top contender, but what else would you suggest? I am also partial to there being compression straps and I’d like to keep it under $300 if possible.

      @@Nomads.Nation sounds like I need to grab the Tortuga and see if I like it. I tested out the Eagle Creek Tour 40L and liked that in, but wasn’t 100% sold on it yet. I also really wanted to like the Bellroy Lite 38L, but no waist straps is a deal breaker. The Osprey Farpoint is also on the last but you can’t tuck the waist straps away without hiding the shoulder straps too so I’m not sure if that’s a deal breaker for me.

      @@houserhythmthese packs are soft sided and vary quite a bit in expandability. I think it would very tough to set an objective standard on how tightly each pack should be filled to reach max capacity, and hence thickness. I believe you can pack a lot of these less structured bags to way over the 9” TSA carry on limit. Plus, some have compression straps

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@TakeTheInitiativewell actually for the UK they need VAT registration and have to pay for it which is a bit costly and cumbersome. But the real hard part is returns/replacements and figuring out how to handle all that with VAT/customs/duties/etc. It’s definitely not impossible to do, but sometimes brands prefer to keep things streamlined and just focus on their own market if that makes sense

      @@Nomads.Nation I hope so too! What other suitcase side clamshell opening one bag travel packs do you recommend? Hey Aaron - I was thinking about buying a 35-40L backpack for buying groceries. Maybe it sounds a little weird, but I’d rather carry more on my back than carry heavy bags in the hands on the bigger grocery shopping trips. So what I need is 35-45 L, minimal organization and light weight. I was thinking something like this Tortuga Travel Lite, but I’d just prefer a backpack with a top opening rather than clamp shell style opening. Comfort and quality more important than price. Any suggestions?

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are looking for comfort and quality then Tortuga is one of the best options!! They bags aren’t light though, all that padding adds up.

    • @Fnantier
      @Fnantier หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Sure the quality looks amazing - but wouldn’t you find it a little inconvenient to have to pack your groceries in a clamshell backpack? I don’t see a big enough Tortuga backpack that’s not clamshell, or am I missing something? It’s already big, then when you open, doubles its footprint area. Also, packing it all in a big shallow layer in the clamshell, rather than just loading it top down from the top of the backpack?

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Fnantier I've never used a backpack for groceries so can't say for sure, but clamshells can still just be opened via the top, just don't unzip the whole way. If you want a top loader be sure to check out hiking bags, I'm sure there's a ton of comfy ones!

    Interesting take on Pro vs Lite (lite version comparison since your sister did a more in-depth comparison, see what I did there, lol). In lieu of a lack of an admin compartment, incentive to have a good admin pouch/case/sling imo. Load lifters & the hip belt gives it a sight edge over the Bellroy Lite, but needs some outside color options! Least the interior is nice & bright. Do you think the lack of a luggage pass thru a missed opportunity or due to the size of the bag, most would only use the bag solo?

    • @Nomads.Nation
      @Nomads.Nation  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    40 litres when fully packed out is restricted on a number of airlines, particularly internal flights where carry on is 7 kg or even only 5kg and we have a bag already at 1.59kg. Load lifters are welcome. The same priced expandable 27-32.5 l backpack is worth considering. The Setout Divide is 26-34 litres but had internal dividers that the 35l Setout did not, making the latter easier to pack [both discontinued]. If packing jackets or suits and winter clothes the 40 litres might not be enough, but 32-35 litre is going to be tight. Walking passed 30 gates at the airport with 40 litres backpack gets heavy. BTW Minaal 3.0 carry-on is 35l and 1.41kg so if you want quality materials they come with mass and even minimalist designs do not save much weight.
    The waist detachable belts (left and right) have no pockets. I guest the Pro bag version with pockets could be ordered in addition. I did not find the pockets useful in the Setout Divide as they are not padded even if I could get my phone or to hold my earphones. I could put my wallet in, but it was a struggle to get out. Having a tick box, on the order page, for both bag with a choice with or without pocket would be sensible.
