I have both and use the small (x pac) as a daily carry. Wish they were a little lighter empty ~ because packed out….these are heavy! And also wish the side straps could stretch out a little longer so you could also double the side to strap up your jacket or whatever. Last thing..love the one stretchy mesh in the admin pocket and wish majority of the pockets were made of that versus the gray (mines is orange) material pockets. Gives it more options to stuff and keeps it clean when you aren’t using it (snap back).
hey Aaron, i've been on a search for a backpack and just wanted to thank you for your years of comprehensive vids - your reviews have helped our immensely, thank you so much!!
Yes, Aaron. Massive YES for waist straps! It's a super important feature! Please incorporate this feature in the backpack that you are building. I will buyyyyy lotsssss
I bought the small 28L x pac a month ago and I love it. Fits under airplane seats and I can still pack things comfortably. I use it as my personal bag with a carry on luggage. Only “complaint” is it’s a little heavy. High quality durable materials and features adds weight, but it’s worth it since it feels more premium than my previous bags.
Late but I have the small version in cordura. It's one of the few travel backpacks that doesn't make me look like I have a turtle shell on my back. Anything taller than 19" doesn't work for me (which are most of the popular travel backpacks). For reference I'm 5 feet tall. I was able to fit this under the airplane seat (United domestic flight). It did stick out but since I'm so short it didn't bother me. Like others have said I wish it was lighter but besides that I've enjoyed everything else about the bag. Organization and comfort are the best for me.
im quite torn between the Aer TP3 28L vs the Peak Design Travel 30L. The Aer's comfortable straps is a plus point but i read it is a heavier bag whereas the PD is lighter but the straps arent as comfy?@@Nomads.Nation what are your thoughts!
Just found your channel. Outstanding, detailed reviews. I have a small travel pack and love it. 100% concur with you. I’m about the same height and lean, build as you and the small fits me better. When fully loaded, it gets heavy but the carry harnesses evenly distribute the weight for a comfortable carry. I don’t bring a rolling carry on because I usually check a large or medium size suitcase depending on the length of trip and don’t want to roll another bag. I use the Aer as a carry on and store it overhead to get it out of the way. It is small enough to fit under the seat depending on the airline and configuration of seats if no space available or you want to bring it down for quicker egress after arrival. I use a 6L or 9L sling as a personal item to hold the stuff I need during the flight. Mahalo for the valuable info and videos.
Dude Another awesome, informative and entertaining review. Having taken your advice way too many times, I’m currently travelling through Costa Rica with the TP3 X-pac and it is outstanding! At home I have the Aer Pro Pack 24L, the Able Carry Max and the Minaal Carry on 3.0. You are costing me a fortune! Where do I send my invoice? lol
Travel safe and enjoy, you picked a very good time to come to Costa Rica, let me know how it went for you, don’t doubt to direct message or even here if you need any recommendation while staying here. Pura vida !
Travelled to Vietnam factory this week with all my docs, gear, fabric and computer in Aer 3 full version as my only luggage. 15 lbs. No straps. Good and comfortable. Can run to airport gates carrying it. Noticed that you were in HK in this video. 😂
still between the are TP3 (though I hear it packs (main compartment) more closely to the Able carry max) and the Able carry max or PD Travelpack 30L. From what I hear they all close together packing out since the aer doesn't really feel like a 35L pack given its lil interior cavity and abundance of pockets (I prefer using tech cubes instead of that organisation layer in the front). Would love to see them packing against each other. Pity the likes of Tortuga do not ship outside the US
You asked about the hip strap. I’m not a fan if you have to purchase it separately. I like what PD did by including it but making it stowable. I use maybe 25% of the time. Just the extra friction of buying and attaching a separate strap puts me at 0.73% likely to buy - as an estimate.
After a lot of research I think I settled on ordering this. Is it worth it to splurge on the X-pac? It’s my first time investing in a quality bag for travel!
When you grab the pack with the top handle, do you feel that “wrapping material” around the handle tends to “overfit” the handle, thus creating a flimsy feeling when grabbing? I think AER used excessive wrapping nylon around the top handle, hence the flimsy feeling.
Hey Aaron. Love your reviews! I'm currently torn between the Travel Pack 3 Small and the City Pack Pro. I'm not a one bag travel type of person, especially with backpacks. I usually have a duffel bag for short trips and a carry on suitcase when flying, so my backpack would work as a complement to those. Ideally I'd be using this as my personal item when flying (under the seat in front of me), and as my EDC when travelling. I used the City Pack as my personal item when I went to Thailand and it was way too small for that (great for my EDC/work bag though!). Which would you recommend?
thanks dude! I'd personally go with the Aer City Pack Pro since it's smaller (and more likely to be considered a personal item) while still being large enough (at 24 liters) to fit plenty of stuff. But ofc this totally depends on how much stuff you pack
I just got the travel pack three this week, and I’m super excited! I didn’t get the hip belt straps initially, but I have thought about getting them. I used to think all hip/sternum straps were ugly, but after getting into outdoor backpacking, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of a good fit, which can make a heavy bag feel light. Even going on a multi-day hike with 30 + lbs of gear and food, if I can put most of the weight on my hip, the bag feels light! However, buying a hip belt separately is a little tricky. On an unrelated note, how do you like those packing cubes? I need to get some and haven’t gotten around to researching brands yet.
Glad you are enjoying it so far Mitchell! I am a hip belt for for any travel bags, so I'd def recommend getting them (even if they are ugly lol) Packing cubes - I'm no expert, just starting to test out different brands now for a roundup later down the line. So far Tortuga ones are great (but expensive) and Peak Design's are usually considered the best (although I haven't tested them yet)
@@Nomads.Nation Are you planning to test out the Aer cubes as well? Supposedly they were made specially for Aer's own backpacks so I'd imagine they might work very well with the travel pack 3. Have been using the Aer travel pack 3 (regular) for ~8 months now and it's great, but I still find I'm running out of room sometimes so looking into packing cubes now.
Nice video Aaron! Got some questions. I think the X-Pack version puts the same coating on the main and front compartment right? And does the Aer Pack Travel 3 Small fit under an airplane seat when not filled to the brim? Like with only the packing cubes and wash pouch?
thanks dude! I'm not sure about your first question - definitely best to check with Aer. As for second question - it depends on the airline as they all have different policies, but more over less I think you should be fine
Hoping someone can offer some insight. My current EDC backpack is the 30L Recon backpack by the North Face. This backpack also works as my personal item on trips (no issues with it fitting underneath the seat on airplanes). I want to upgrade to a backpack with a clam shell opening to make it easier on trips when I want to pack my drone. In addition I’d probably toss in a packing cube, towel, sweatshirt and my speaker. I definitely don’t plan on packing it out to max capacity. My question is do I go with the Aer Travel Pack 3 (35 L) or the Travel Pack 3 small (28). The 30L in my NF Recon seems perfect. My concern is that the Travel Pack 3 small might not offer enough space and the Travel Pack 3 might be too big. Which ever backpack I get I want to still be able to use it as a personal item and not as a carry on. Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?
Can’t comment on the size comparison as I’ve never used the NF Recon. I think if your heart is set on Aer, the Travel Pack small should be fine for your needs. If you want 30L, check out the Able Carry Max
I have a carry on but tired of putting my shoes in it. How many size 10 pairs would you say fit in the those Aer bags? Also do you think they’d fit underneath airplane seat? I use the Aer Gym Dufflee for traveling and barely fits.
I’m using my TP 3 Small for the first time this week for a road trip! I’m excited to see how well it works. I’ll be using it again in May, but that trip will be a flight and it will be used as my Spirit airlines personal item.
Hi Aaron. Great video! I watched several videos for a real 35L urban tech backpack, and finally I think this one is the lucky one. The regular seems to have more space than the Alpaka element travel backpack, right?
@Nomads.Nation What material do you recommend between the Ballistic Nylon and the XPAC? I already have an Alpaka sling in xpac that I like but I've never seen the ballistic nylon.
@@mariorock76 both are amazing, just depends on your preferences. IMO ballistic nylon looks/feels more professional/luxurious and has decent weather resistance. In contrast, XPAC looks more sporty/technical and has superior weather resistance
I just did a full week in Hong Kong in a 24 liter bag, so if you aren’t an overpacker than a 28L will be perfect. But if you like to pack a ton of stuff, then go 35L
I have an older osprey nebula and it’s rated at 35L. It doesn’t feel like a true 35L so I was looking at a replacement for day to day and quick trips. The large aer looks big, and the small resembles my osprey in size. Curious your thoughts on which aer would be similar but better for stuffing gear in the main portion. Thank you.
@@Nomads.Nation 13:37 thanks! Would you say the Aer Travel Pack 3 is more comfortable to wear than the 30L Peak Design Travel backpack when full? Your videos have been very helpful in helping me decide which bags to buy!
@@mrmf17 ah that's an unbranded one I got in China. I recommend looking at the Day Owl Packable Tote or the Nanobag. Day Owl is more durable but more bulky. Nano is much lighter and my fav, but might not be as durable over the years (not sure yet, only got mine 6 months ago). And I would say that Aer is about a jillion times more comfortable than Peak Design!!
@@Nomads.Nation Thank you vm for the recommendations! Will look into the Tote mentioned. Aer is more comfortable then! Thank you. Been a Peak design guy the past few years and is venturing to other brands.
Aaron, what would do for separating / storing the dirty clothes in this travel pack as the clean clothes are continuously used from the packing cubes? And apart from this back specifically, what solution do you use for that in general when traveling? Thanks!
I’ve heard people claim to do it without any issues, but since it’s “technically” not a personal item size, honestly your flipping the coin every time you try lol
As always great reviews I'm a big fan I'm realy surprised that you didn't mention alpaka travel pack as an alternative recommendation seems like a very formidable one travel bag
Hey Aaron, recently came across your channel and the bag world in general. You produce awesome content and you’ve really helped me narrow bags down, so thank you!! I am new to 1 Bag Travel and looking to use the bag for anything between 3 and 7 night trips. At 5ft 10 and new to the world of one bag travel, would you recommend the small or regular ATP3? I’m being chronically indecisive thinking one will be too big on me (🐢) and the other not be big enough to travel for a week (even if I do my best to pack simple) 😂. Thank you in advance and hope 2024 brings great things for your channel!!
Thanks for the kind words! It’s really tough for me to make a recommendation for you bc I don’t know how heavy of a packer you are and the climate you are going to and how much tech you are bringing. Having said that, given your height I don’t think you’ll find either bag to be too big on you as I’ve worn both and at 5’8 they are a great fit on me
@@Nomads.Nation Thank you! As a newbie to the one bag idea, I imagine my packing would be considered average rather than savagely minimal at the outset. Tech wise, v minimal ie no laptop, tablet or camera (Wife is the photographer!). My use would mainly be around Europe Mar-Sept ,so mainly moderate to warm conditions most of the time.
@@StephenAdams-j4p cool! If I were you I'd go with the regular to play it safe, but having said that the Small is definitely an option if you want to pack/travel lighter
that is one hell of a review buddy. i just ordered the small in xpac, after not really enjoying lugging a patagonia duffel (even with the backstraps..).
I'm thinking about getting the X-Pac version of the Travel Bag 3 Small, not only do I love X-Pac in general, it also get's rid of the non PU-coated zippers problem and I don't mind the aqua guard zippers being a little harder to pull, they're more water resistant after all, plus it makes it harder for pick pocket thiefs to get into the zippers unnoticed when traveling in some shady locations. The biggest con that's making me hold off a bit is the price, 345 Euros in the EU stings...I've bought a few Aer sling bags like the Day Sling 3 Max X-Pac and the City Sling 2 before and they've already been expensive, but I don't regret getting them at all, so I hope I will feel the same about the Travel Pack when I get it, even if it's on the slightly more pricy side of travel backpacks.
@@Nomads.Nation thanks for the tip, but in case you’re referring to the London Undercover store which sells Aer products out of the UK, it’s even slightly more expensive than ordering directly from Aer since the price at check out isn’t the final price. Because the whole Brexit thing happened, I have to pay additional taxes and custom fees when ordering goods from the UK that cost more than 150 Euros, so when doing the math, ordering from Aer directly will cost me 345 Euros while the grand total from ordering at London Undercover comes out at about 352 euros, so as much as my wallet chooses to live in disbelief, I fear that 345 bucks is the best price I will get…like I said, pricy, but at least I never had buyers remorse after getting an Aer product, I hope it will stay this way, fingers crossed!
@@natusMCMII I was referring to their new London store - aersf.co.uk/ - but it might be just as expensive. European governments do not make it easy for you guys to get this stuff, that's for sure. Hope you can find one at a decent price!
Thank you for the thorough review!! I wish I had seen your video before my purchase last night... I'm preparing for a two-week Europe trip and plan to bring my Away carry-on flex with the ATP 3. In retrospect, I probably should have gotten the ATP 3 small instead, given that it will be the personal item. Should I return the 3 and get the 3-small instead?
Totally depends on how much you pack, but yea I think a carry on suitcase + 35L bag is a lot for a two week trip. But this is coming from a guy who just did a 5 week trip on a 22 liter backpack, so I’m a bit different lol
Great reviews on all your bags! I finally decided to splurge on a backpack but torn between the Aer pack small or the Nomatic travel pack. I will have my laptop and gadgets plus tons of snacks for my plane flight. This needs to fit under the seat of a plane and it needs to work for everyday carry as well. I travel quite a bit weather it's on vacation or for my boys baseball tournaments. This bag needs to do it all for me including my mobile work station on the go. What do you recommend from the two or do you have a better suggestion?
the EDC + travel combo is hard cuz its gonna be a big EDC (unless you carry a ton of gear of course). If that doesn't bother you then go with the ATP3 small
Hi Aaron, is there any particular combined travel/edc (one-backpack) you can recommend that have a suitable compartment for storing either a smaller backpack inside or a sling? Thanks!
What size range? How heavy do you pack? How long of a trip? Tough to say as everyone travels differently. I would also say compartment that store daypacks are a little gimmicky - it’s usually best just to use a compressible daypack and throw it in the main compartment. Unless you are referring to a fully packed out day pack sleeve, which I haven’t seen done very well aside from maybe the Pakt Travel Backpack
@@Nomads.Nation I was thinking about packing a 6 L or 9 L Bellroy Venture sling in a travel backpack - perhaps something like the Aer Travel 3 so around 35 L. Alternatively maybe a Tortuga Packable Daypack (308 g wow).
@@Fnantier all those work! The sling + travel bag combo is the best imo, so you are on the right path. If you need more space for your daypack then the Tortuga is a great choice, just pack it in the main compartment of your Aer Travel Pack 3
@@Nomads.Nation Cool thanks! Which would be your personal pick between Bellroy Venture Sling 9L, Alpaka Bravo X Sling and Aer Tech 3 sling? For the purpose of holding an iPad Pro 11" - in order between those three. Anything else that comes to mind? PS: I might pack both the sling for city and a smaller compressible backpack for hiking. I'm going on a trip that will be a mix of nature hikes and city walking, and I feel that a backpack is better for nature, sling better for the city.
Hey Aaron, nice review as always. I’d like to ask if the 35l with ballistic nylon (not xpac)- does it stand on its own? BTW, might be cool idea if you ever wanted to do a quick video rundown on backpacks that stand on their own. Your point made in the Nomatic. 32l travel bag about the convenience of self standing bags while waiting in lines is on point.
Great suggestion and something we hope to do eventually! This is a decent self-standing bag but it’s not really marketed as one so keep in mind it will tip depending on how it’s packed out
We currently don’t have a discount for Aer, but using this link ensures you are brought to the lowest price (and not a scam website) and it helps support the NN TH-cam channel 🫶🏽
Thanks for your suggestion! We don't really do versus videos between separate brands as they don't perform very well, and I haven't reviewed the Able Carry Max EDC yet, but I'm happy to answer any questions you might have that I can answer
I use a 28L North Face Borealis as my everyday carry, and as it's wearing out, the small sounds like a reasonable replacement that can carry just as much or more. Only concern is I'm one of those people with a 17" laptop and 1L Nalgene. Water bottle I can learn to downsize; laptop, not so much.
@@Nomads.Nation I've pretty much accepted it will never fit in an actual laptop compartment. As long as I can get in and zipped shut somewhere, I'm happy.
I'll start with the caveat that I'm using the regular Aer travel pack 3, rather than the small version, but that one can easily accommodate a 17" laptop in the laptop compartment, and if the laptop's not too thick could accommodate a second laptop in that compartment as well as the compartment has a divider to accommodate two devices. I don't think the small is that much smaller that it wouldn't fit anymore, but then again I don't have the small to test it with sadly.
Currently shopping for a EDC/Short travel hybrid bag, and i'm between some bags. Which would you think would be better between the Aer Travel Pack 3 Small, PeakDesign Travel Backpack 30 L, Able Carry Max 30 L, or the Bellroy Transit Backpack 28 L? Was originally considering the Aer City Pro, but if with the extra 4-6 L of the others bags they still fit under the airplane seat as a Personal Item, then I think the extra space is worth it. Thanks!
hard to answer cuz you want BOTH EDC and travel. I would never wear these bags as EDC - way too big for my needs, so I'd choose the Bellroy cuz it's the lightest of them
@@Nomads.Nationthanks for the help! I know both shouldn’t be for EDC optimally, but don’t want to buy that many bags, so that’s why I’m looking to some of those for EDC/Small travel hybrid. Thanks for the answer!
@@Nomads.Nation ahh okok thanks!! Following up on that how is the main compartment capacity between the Able Carry Max and the TP3S? A bunch of people say they've actually been able to fit more in the Aer?
@@Nomads.Nation that's great! Actually bought the Daily Plus off your recommendation a few months ago and it's been awesome so I wanted to stick with AC as a hker 😂 but people were making the capacity out to be a significant issue. Thanks for clearing that up!
How's the length on those shoulder straps? I bought a Everki Business 120 (titan) because it fits larger laptops but the straps were so huge. I had top and bottom pulled as tight as they would go and there was still a LOT of slack. I'm a 5'7" woman, average build (not 'petite'). It felt like it was only sized for larger men. I'm coming from a Nomatic travel pack that I loved but grew out of (well, my gear grew out of) if that helps.
Yea I tried that but they responded with "37 inches" which doesn't seem right - the height of the whole unit itself isn't even 37 inches. I tried to clarify the question in a reply to them, hopefully they understand the second time around. Anyone reading this have one of these they could take a quick measure on? I'm just looking for the length of the main part of the strap - for scale I measured my Nomatic and it's 17 inches. It fits great and I love it but it's just not big enough anymore. Thanks @@Nomads.Nation - I'm keeping my eye on your project as well!
sadly in europe this corst 450 euros. so basically more than twice the price. if you had to choose between this and the able carry max wich one would you buy?
Yea Europe is a tough place to buy from. You honestly can’t go wrong with either but I would give the slightest preference to Able Carry. Maybe contact the ppl from Mukama.com and see if they have any Aer products coming in soon
Best reviewer by a million mile ! Sincerely ! I am desperate to find the perfect bag for 10 to 15 days travels. I love the Aer Travel pack 3 but 35L is a maybe bit short for me. Especially if I bring shoes. Something like 40l or 35 which could expand to 40 or a bit more would be just perfect. Green of course : anything like olive or kaki. The more I'm getting old the more I am a green lover :) I can't find the perfect match for now. The 35L Pakt seems to be a possible choice but I'm not a huge fan of the "dust magnet" fabric and the laptop compartment in the middle of the bag. I you have another ideas or any informations about future releases (Aer, Alapka..) or even better if you plan to make the perfect travel bag after your first one ;) Cheers from France, Lionel
Hi Aaron! Thanks for the great review! I'm currently eyeing the small version because of the great point you made that it could also act as my EDC during a trip. Would it be possible for you to check if a 40oz water bottle fits on the tumbler slot (specifically a 40oz Owala if possible)? :)
Great review! I've been using this pack for almost a year now, and wanted to point out two things: I use the front pocket as a dump pouch to toss my watch/phone/wallet into before going through airport security. Super handy. Also, the small BARELY fits under the seat on full-service US airlines. Barely. I'd imagine the large would need to go in the overhead.
So as someone living in Japan I've always wondered if that single horizontal zipper that Aer is known for was actually their idea or was it inspired by the regular office workers bag from Japan? You see them everywhere here
Does this bag stand up on it’s own like the the Aer Tech Pack. That is the only thing that I LOVE about the Tech Pack that I’m worried won’t be the case on this Travel Pack. I’m sure the way you pack it will determine how well is stands up. But the Tech Pack stands up no matter what and I LOVE that. Thanks for all of your awesome reviews!
Glad to help! It does not stand us as well, but can if it’s packed out fully and you have the weight distributed correctly (heavier/flatter stuff on the bottom)
Hey Aaron, Thank you for your in-depth videos. I noticed your videos were shot in Hong Kong. I was wondering if you know where I could check out these backpacks in person in Hong Kong because I want to get an idea of how big it would look on me. I know Suburban used to carry them but they don't anymore. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!
I've been rocking the small x-pac for my EDC for the past few weeks and im loving it! Which I can say its abit lighter than the Cordura! Plus what this bag have that probably no other EDC bags have maybe?.. is the load lifters! My edc could get a little heavy and the load lifters helped alot! Anyway, awesome review and huge fan! Maybe we could see your bag soon! P.S. i think you missed one pocket along the side of the main compartment below the mesh pockets!
Hey Aaron! Started watching your videos because you try out a 17 in laptop in many of the bags. Would this backpack fit it, since you said there was extra room after your smaller laptop?
Hey dude I’m not 100% sure as I no longer have access to a 17 inch laptop. Def a great question for Aer customer support. Please let us know what they say!
Hi, just want to ask if the bag is still bulky with only laptop and charger inside while using the compression straps? I kinda want to buy this instead of the city pack pro because of the straps
When he was trying to smash all that extra stuff in there, wouldn't that risk damaging a laptop or tablet in the backpack, or are they designed to withstand that kind of pressure?
Any idea where we can get this in Canada Aaron? I can order on their site BUT duties are killer. Any ideas since Nordstrom is closing up shop? As always, awesome review.
I have really enjoyed watching these reviews! The details and practical tips are the best plus I really enjoy seeing the cityscapes as you walk through whatever city you are in. I pulled the trigger on the Travel Pack Small and now questioning my decision... Should I have gone with the City Pack Pro? My question: when the pack is completely compressed, what is the thickness front to back?
This bag is awesome! With minimal stuff inside (laptop, wallet, keys), fully compressed the bag is ~3.75 inches thick. The admin area with all the pockets is sweet! I'm replacing my recently chewed on eBags Prof Slim Jr. and this is quite the upgrade! @@Nomads.Nation
Great review! I’m also in for “stop the dangle” and appreciate that you highlighted the strap retention thingys! My TP3 XPac arrives tomorrow. Can’t wait to put this bad boy to some use for an upcoming trip to DC then southern Italy. And no, not a fan of the hip straps. I’ve never found them to make that much difference.
Appreciate the world class reviews!!! And congrats on the epic backpack creation! I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Tumi backpacks. Specifically the Alpha Bravo Search backpack. I just came across the Search backpack today and came straight to your channel to see if you had a review on it and noticed you’ve never reviewed any Tumi backpacks. Is it because they’re overpriced perhaps? Would love to hear back if you get a chance. Thank you for all the great content!!! Mahalos!
Waist straps are really only helpful when they are attached to an aluminum frame, which this backpack and most other travel backpacks don’t have. They distribute the load from your shoulders to your hip when used with a frame.
I disagree. It's true that many of the BEST hip belts are attached to an aluminum frame (like a few I've tested from Osprey) but the hip belts on this pack (and other similar ones) still provide so much relief by redistributing weight to your hips and off your back
@@Nomads.Nation Interesting. I am speaking from backpacking experience where we carry 30-50lbs of gear. A solid frame is absolutely necessary at these loads. I used the waist straps on my Nomatic 30L and they are nowhere as useful as they are on my Mariposa 60L which has an internal frame.
@@brodobroggins yea we are totally on the same page. Internal frame wins all day, and the Nomatic hip belt is well below average. Having said that, Aer hip belts and others (like Tortuga, etc) are still great
Great Vid Aaron. I’d love your opinion on which you think is the better option between this pack (regular size) and the Pakt 35L 2.0. You review both packs quite high, it if you had to choose one? Welcome your thought and keep it up. Love your channel.
@@Nomads.Nation thanks Aaron. I physically haven’t seen the Aer. Do you think for a regular 3-4 day traveller, the small would suit, or is the 35l the better option
@@Naz_Vibes I really have no idea how you pack, but I'm literally on a 5-day trip to Thailand right now and did it on a 25L no problem. I'm a pretty minimal packer though and the weather here is warm. If it were colder weather I'd prefer a 30L (paired with a sling). 35L will probably be the safest bet
Aaron, with all the hype with the x pac version I personally think I like the Cordura ballistic nylon better. However, I am loving the orange interior of the x pac version and that's what's making it hard for me to decide. Since you've reviewed so many bags and can actually see them, I'd like to know your personal preference from the two.
Can’t go wrong with either! I will say that XPAC is def more weather and water resistant, although I prefer the look of ballistic nylon myself. If those things don’t hell then just flip a coin haha
Thank you so much for responding! Love your reviews and truly do help and appreciate. I bought the TP3 small in Cordura Ballistic Nylon through your link. I didn't mention this to you before, but I did buy the Nomatic travel pack first and although it's nice, it wasn't for me. Sadly, too late to return. So I was nervous in making another bad decision and expensive one too. The TP3 small was love at first sight! Thanks to your thorough reviews I made the right choice for me! Great job on the making of your backpack....looks great! I personally own a lot of backpacks and looking forward to purchasing yours! 😊
These look really nice. My only real beef is the expandable part mainly because of the straps and the extra flappy parts. Would be nicer if they could go away a bit more once compressed. Love the organization though. Do the zipper dangles make a bunch of noise when you're walking?
@@Nomads.Nation No problem, I am really down the rabbit hole now with research and considering all of your videos, Aer is the one I gravitate towards to, based on look and functionality but I have to see how it ranks against airback to really make my choice and buy a backpack.Just after you review it, tell me which of the two you find more suitable and why. It exceeds the Ryanair personal item size by quite a bit, but it would work as a carry on. It would be nice to know if it fits under the seat once you're through check-in, though!
@@Nomads.Nationthis was there response "Thanks for reaching out. Based on the dimensions provided, the Travel Pack 3 Small will be able to accommodate your laptop, if not in the suspended laptop sleeve, then it should fit in the laptop compartment. Hope that helps."

Holly molly 😂 My Aer travel pack 3 small (not XPAC) has arrived today and my man, it’s comfortable especially the genius strap on both shoulder to tighten to the chest for that steady carrying. Making carry 8.5kg feel comfortable. The TUMI will be resting for time being after faithfully accompany me for past 8 years. Oh, the TUMI is still in tip top condition no matter heavy load I throw in it 😅
Great video!! just one question the one you are wearing on the street and the one you put on near the end of the video is the same one? and which size is? I'm also 5´8'' and don't want to look like a turtle hahahaha

Aaron, at 1:50 are you wearing the small or the regular? I'm also 5'8 so trying to figure out if the regular is too big to carry for my height.
Small :)
Thanks for the comment Bianca, agreed they def are slightly on the heavy side
hey Aaron, i've been on a search for a backpack and just wanted to thank you for your years of comprehensive vids - your reviews have helped our immensely, thank you so much!!
thanks so much for your kind words!!
Yes, Aaron. Massive YES for waist straps! It's a super important feature! Please incorporate this feature in the backpack that you are building. I will buyyyyy lotsssss
Thanks Teddy!!! My bag is an everyday bag, so no need for waist straps, but on travel packs its a must :)
I bought the small 28L x pac a month ago and I love it. Fits under airplane seats and I can still pack things comfortably. I use it as my personal bag with a carry on luggage.
Only “complaint” is it’s a little heavy. High quality durable materials and features adds weight, but it’s worth it since it feels more premium than my previous bags.
a bit heavy but totally worth it for the durabiliy/feel
Late but I have the small version in cordura. It's one of the few travel backpacks that doesn't make me look like I have a turtle shell on my back. Anything taller than 19" doesn't work for me (which are most of the popular travel backpacks). For reference I'm 5 feet tall.
I was able to fit this under the airplane seat (United domestic flight). It did stick out but since I'm so short it didn't bother me.
Like others have said I wish it was lighter but besides that I've enjoyed everything else about the bag. Organization and comfort are the best for me.
Thanks for the comment!

Mahalo for the valuable info and videos.
thanks so much and mahalo back at ya!
Just bought this bag. This is my third 35Lbag. I might have a problem. Might need to start selling. Running outta room😄

Where do I send my invoice? lol
it sounds like I actually owe YOU money 😂 glad our reviews have been helping dude
Travel safe and enjoy, you picked a very good time to come to Costa Rica, let me know how it went for you, don’t doubt to direct message or even here if you need any recommendation while staying here. Pura vida !
Did you hike with this pack while in Costa Rica? Curious how comfortable it is with all of the weight
Travelled to Vietnam factory this week with all my docs, gear, fabric and computer in Aer 3 full version as my only luggage. 15 lbs. No straps. Good and comfortable. Can run to airport gates carrying it.
Noticed that you were in HK in this video. 😂
Nice! And yes, we are based in HK 🇭🇰 🥟
still between the are TP3 (though I hear it packs (main compartment) more closely to the Able carry max) and the Able carry max or PD Travelpack 30L. From what I hear they all close together packing out since the aer doesn't really feel like a 35L pack given its lil interior cavity and abundance of pockets (I prefer using tech cubes instead of that organisation layer in the front). Would love to see them packing against each other. Pity the likes of Tortuga do not ship outside the US
tough decisions lol
You asked about the hip strap. I’m not a fan if you have to purchase it separately. I like what PD did by including it but making it stowable. I use maybe 25% of the time. Just the extra friction of buying and attaching a separate strap puts me at 0.73% likely to buy - as an estimate.
approximately, of course
After a lot of research I think I settled on ordering this. Is it worth it to splurge on the X-pac? It’s my first time investing in a quality bag for travel!
Congrats! I prefer Ballistic Nylon but you can’t go wrong with either :)
@@Nomads.Nation Is there a specific reason? If you didn't care about the feel or style, which one would be more durable and water resistant?
When you grab the pack with the top handle, do you feel that “wrapping material” around the handle tends to “overfit” the handle, thus creating a flimsy feeling when grabbing? I think AER used excessive wrapping nylon around the top handle, hence the flimsy feeling.
I do not
I'm torn between the travel pack 3 small and the evergoods ctb26! Where would you cast your vote?
Unfortunately I haven't reviewed the CTB26 yet so I can't say for sure
I apologize if I missed this, but what are the dimensions of the regular size bag when compressed?
don't know and I am traveling so can't check, I'd recommend asking Aer, be sure to let us know what they say!
Front pocket is perfect for keys on key loop and your work ID/lanyard if you use one.
Great call!
I am a hip belt for for any travel bags, so I'd def recommend getting them (even if they are ugly lol)
Packing cubes - I'm no expert, just starting to test out different brands now for a roundup later down the line. So far Tortuga ones are great (but expensive) and Peak Design's are usually considered the best (although I haven't tested them yet)
@@Nomads.Nation Thanks for the packing cube tips, I’ll check them out!
@@kaelon9170 no immediate plans but hopefully late summer we’ll do a ‘best packing cubes’ roundup
@@kaelon9170I have the AER small and medium cubes for my Travel Pack 3. They worked well on a recent trip to Iceland.
There is also a ‘hidden’ zipper at the very top of the lid in the main compartment
ah - too many compartments!
Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity
Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?
Can’t comment on the size comparison as I’ve never used the NF Recon. I think if your heart is set on Aer, the Travel Pack small should be fine for your needs. If you want 30L, check out the Able Carry Max
I have a carry on but tired of putting my shoes in it. How many size 10 pairs would you say fit in the those Aer bags? Also do you think they’d fit underneath airplane seat? I use the Aer Gym Dufflee for traveling and barely fits.
these are probably better questions for Aer - be sure to let us know what they say!
I'm trying to decide between the Aer Travel 3 and the Pakt 2.0. What do you think?
ATP3 imo

What material do you recommend between the Ballistic Nylon and the XPAC? I already have an Alpaka sling in xpac that I like but I've never seen the ballistic nylon.
@@mariorock76 both are amazing, just depends on your preferences. IMO ballistic nylon looks/feels more professional/luxurious and has decent weather resistance. In contrast, XPAC looks more sporty/technical and has superior weather resistance

I am looking for an AER travel bag for traveling from a weekend to a full week. Which would you recommend I get?
I just did a full week in Hong Kong in a 24 liter bag, so if you aren’t an overpacker than a 28L will be perfect. But if you like to pack a ton of stuff, then go 35L
I have an older osprey nebula and it’s rated at 35L. It doesn’t feel like a true 35L so I was looking at a replacement for day to day and quick trips. The large aer looks big, and the small resembles my osprey in size. Curious your thoughts on which aer would be similar but better for stuffing gear in the main portion. Thank you.
I don't have that Osprey so I can't say for sure, but probably best to go with the 35L

Glad you liked the review! I’d love to hear what you think of the bag after testing for a few weeks 🙏🏽
Check out their UK store - shipping to the EU might be cheaper

@@adam323 maybe one day I'll make a backpack JUST for 17-inchers like yourself ;)
Hi Aaron! Thanks for the great review! I'm currently eyeing the small version because of the great point you made that it could also act as my EDC during a trip. Would it be possible for you to check if a 40oz water bottle fits on the tumbler slot (specifically a 40oz Owala if possible)? :)
Glad the review was helpful! And sounds like a great question for Aer customer support haha, be sure to let us know what they say!!
Which fabric is better 1680d vs xpac?
Neither is better, both are amazing and perfectly durable. Base your decision about which aesthetic you prefer
Great review! I've been using this pack for almost a year now, and wanted to point out two things:
I use the front pocket as a dump pouch to toss my watch/phone/wallet into before going through airport security. Super handy.
Also, the small BARELY fits under the seat on full-service US airlines. Barely. I'd imagine the large would need to go in the overhead.
good to know! thanks dude
So as someone living in Japan I've always wondered if that single horizontal zipper that Aer is known for was actually their idea or was it inspired by the regular office workers bag from Japan? You see them everywhere here
great question! I'm not sure tbh but there could def be a connection there
There is also another compartment on the outside of the clamshell that runs the length of the clamshell cover
that I missed?
Hello, you missed one pocket inside the Main compartment. There is large pocket on the inside of the "lid" opened from the side.
🤦🏻♂️
Thanks!
heyo! I don't know if anyone carries them in HK, maybe check FEVERGUY but if not them then I'm out of ideas. If you find out tho please let me know!
@@Nomads.Nation thank you very much!
Thanks for that point! And yes, load lifters can go a long way
Great video. I’d love to see you review the TP3 small in x-pac! It’s so different to the ballistic nylon version
thanks so much! Hope to review that bag one day
Hi, just want to ask if the bag is still bulky with only laptop and charger inside while using the compression straps? I kinda want to buy this instead of the city pack pro because of the straps
It will still be as wide and tall, just less deep. It’s a bulky bag in general since it’s a travel bag, but those compression straps will help a bit
I'm not sure what to get, I'm torn between the Aer Travel Pack 3 and Boundary Supply Arris Pack. My previous bag got stolen while traveling.
Sorry to hear Jack! My pick would be ATP3 all day - but if you plan to do a bit of hiking/adventure travel then the Arris is better built for that
Are there any current promo codes for the Aer Travel Pack 3??? Please say yes and then tell me what it is. Thank you!
not currently unfortunately !
Would the Aer Travel Pack 3 small work as an underseat luggage???
depends on many factors, but I'd say you'd be good in the USA 70% of the time. International is a completely different story
When he was trying to smash all that extra stuff in there, wouldn't that risk damaging a laptop or tablet in the backpack, or are they designed to withstand that kind of pressure?
they are designed to withstand pressure
I bought the small and it is everything fed but it is too heavy for me
yea its def a bit on the heavy side fo shoooo
Any idea where we can get this in Canada Aaron? I can order on their site BUT duties are killer. Any ideas since Nordstrom is closing up shop? As always, awesome review.
thanks so much! And unfortunately I don't - maybe use a freight forwarder?
I have really enjoyed watching these reviews! The details and practical tips are the best plus I really enjoy seeing the cityscapes as you walk through whatever city you are in. I pulled the trigger on the Travel Pack Small and now questioning my decision... Should I have gone with the City Pack Pro? My question: when the pack is completely compressed, what is the thickness front to back?
thanks so much! we are based in Hong Kong :) test out your new TP3 and if you don't like it you should be able to switch it out no problem
Thanks for that, and please let us know what you think about your XPAC after testing it for a few weeks 💪🏾
You should try to use them properly then ;)
@@mortenlarsen1113 the hip straps?
Was that a reference to dumbo when you were trying to close the bag?
what reference? lol
Mahalos!
thanks so much! I can't wait to review a few Tumi backpacks, just haven't gotten around to it yet, hopefully soon!
Having said that, Aer hip belts and others (like Tortuga, etc) are still great
@@Nomads.Nation I see. That’s good to know about the Aer, thanks.
Great Vid Aaron. I’d love your opinion on which you think is the better option between this pack (regular size) and the Pakt 35L 2.0. You review both packs quite high, it if you had to choose one?
Welcome your thought and keep it up. Love your channel.
thanks dude! Tough matchup, but Aer for me
@@Nomads.Nation thanks Aaron.
@@sapphirerealty32 appreciate the kind words and support! Please let us know how the TP3 treats ya :)
Will do! I am so excited to start using it! 🙂
These look really nice. My only real beef is the expandable part mainly because of the straps and the extra flappy parts. Would be nicer if they could go away a bit more once compressed. Love the organization though. Do the zipper dangles make a bunch of noise when you're walking?
No, the zipper dangle is a non-issue for me. I have the small and it's quite big and bulky for EDC. There's isn't much to complain about for me.
Not a lot of noise no... but it can be noticeable
@@Nomads.Nation Thanks!
@@john1023va Thanks!
What are the internal dimensions of the main compartment?
that sounds like a great question for Aer's customer support - please let us know what they say!
Think the small travel pack can be a personal item on most airlines?
really depends on the airline, but I think you'll be good 50% of the time
Please make a review about airback backpack and carhartt philips backpacks, thank you.
thanks for the recs!
Cheers
I am so split between the Aer Travel Pack 3 Xpac and the Able Carry Max Backpack. Using it for travel, school, light to heavy hikes, and so basically an all-rounder.
Would you happen to have any advice to help out? haha
Thank you so much for your review of this pack also Aaron!
God Bless!
I would def not hike with the Aer Travel Pack - for that reason go with Able Carry (but with the understanding that it’s also not an ideal hiking bag)
@@Nomads.Nation Hi Aaron, just out of curiosity why wouldn’t you use this bag for hiking? Newbie over here 🙋♂️
@@jayc451 it's an urban bag designed for tech gear and travel. The materials, shape, and features aren't really conducive to hiking (but having said that, it's totally possible!)
Newly subbed Aaron! Just wondering if you know that the regular can fit under most airline seats? And if you think the small is good enough when paired with a carry on wheel luggage? Thank you in advance :)
welcome! 1) depends on the airline, how full you pack it, how heavty it is, and the mood of the person working the counter, but it'll be 50/50. 2) yes
@@Nomads.Nation oh man thank you for the reply! I won’t be going anywhere until March at least so it gives me some time to do a little research and this definitely helps! Thank you!!
@@momotaroux264glad to help!
It is great to see a bagger who also lives in Hong Kong as well. Hope you will make some videos about the EDC gear suitable for the urban life. It is kind of ridiculous to carry a big ass fixed blade or a pocket knife in Hong Kong which is reviewed by other EDC TH-camrs.
Nice to connect! Also I'm looking for people in Hong Kong to help test my new backpack that I'm making. Email me aaron@nomadsnation.com if you are interested
Anyone tried the small one on Ryanair flights under seat?
Following
It exceeds the Ryanair personal item size by quite a bit, but it would work as a carry on. It would be nice to know if it fits under the seat once you're through check-in, though!
Do you think the small size is too small for a 4 or 5 day trip?
Totally depends how you pack. I can make a bag this size last a month. If you pack light, it'll be no problem
If anyone has the small version do you know if a 17in laptop may fit?? if anyone has tried it
Hoping someone in the community can help - otherwise reach out to Aer and let us know what they say 🙏
@@Nomads.Nationthis was there response "Thanks for reaching out. Based on the dimensions provided, the Travel Pack 3 Small will be able to accommodate your laptop, if not in the suspended laptop sleeve, then it should fit in the laptop compartment. Hope that helps."
@@sadogeee4196 thanks for that dude!
wish I could see you wearing the regular version (i am around the same hegith as you). Can't decide between both as afaird the regular will look too big. Mainly use for travel 4-5 days and not for edc (even when travel)
It won't be too big, it's a very common-sized bag. I'd get the regular - more versatility
Holly molly 😂
My Aer travel pack 3 small (not XPAC) has arrived today and my man, it’s comfortable especially the genius strap on both shoulder to tighten to the chest for that steady carrying. Making carry 8.5kg feel comfortable.
The TUMI will be resting for time being after faithfully accompany me for past 8 years. Oh, the TUMI is still in tip top condition no matter heavy load I throw in it 😅
Gotta love load lifters - they are lifesavers
Great video!! just one question the one you are wearing on the street and the one you put on near the end of the video is the same one? and which size is? I'm also 5´8'' and don't want to look like a turtle hahahaha
thats the small 🐢 😜
Could you please review the newer Venture slings?
They are in my storage as I type, hopefully next month
One additional feature of the X-Pac versions is that ALL of the zippers are PU-coated. Also the X-Pac versions are a little lighter.
