    I spent almost all of the review thinking that Kermode was talking about the Fincher version, all the way until they started talking about the subtitled and dubbed version.

    The soundtrack is unbelievable. You really have to tune in your ear to appreciate the musical soundscape the soundtrack of this film has to offer. The film is not without problems, a bit too long at bits, but overall the flaws get overshadowed by the might of the soundtrack. Thumbs up

      +Denis Vargas Considering it's Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross that shouldn't be so surprising should it? ;)

      The soundtrack is unbelievably good. Best part of a very good film.

      @MatthiasDuyck this was posted in 2010, they're obviously talking about the Swedish version. How hard can it be to take literally a split second to look at the date the video was posted?

      @@nl3064 You're right. I mistakenly wrote about the Fincher film that came afterwards.

    I honestly believe that Kermode is an older version of me. What he said about original language w/ subs for live-action and dubbed for animation is exactly what I've maintained for years.

    I saw this film in Sweden about a year ago.
    I thought it was brilliant, one of the best films we've ever done here in Sweden.
    And, yes, it is very brutal and has a few shocking scenes.

    The comments have been hijacked by those banging on about the remake - Mark reviewed it elsewhere.

    I like (as Dr Mark repeatedly points out in various reviews) how the British rating system is doing a good job these days and actually seems to employ people who "get" movies, much unlike MPAA. This film has fairly plentiful amount of rape in it, but it has a point and has implications with regards to plot and characters as opposed to exploitation. It's cool that the British film censors understand it.

  • @1989Goodspeed

    When I saw this movie, it was unbelievable and something that made me feel a bit uneasy about myself was that when the rapists and murders meet there fate and they were begging for there life’s I had no sympathy. That frightened me, in this dark movie.
    Another point is that Peter Haber who plays Martin Wanger is nationally more known as the police inspector Martin Beck and as a comedic actor
    (Sunes Sommar, Tomten är fat till alla barn).

    I really want to see this.
    In fact, i stopped the video as i like not knowing what a film is about before watching it.
    I somehow know i want to see it. I forget how.

    Let Me In is a remake of the book not a remake of the film. They're both adaptations.

    Agreed, Wes Craven's career tells an interesting story, from Last House on the Left to Scream, thats not a healthy picture.
    Last night I watched two classic, Deep Red by Argento and Agurrie, Wrath of God (Herzog). Needless to say that both these powerful movies have blown away almost anything from the last 10 years-including Inception.
    Would they get an audiance today? I doubt it very much.

    just seen it...great movie....marks review is good and if the comment below is right and they are making american version of this movie it better be light years better because this movie is not of low quality or bad acting...

  • @theunusualsuspectstv
    @theunusualsuspectstv 13 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    @xxxted78 i think its necessary when the original could have been improved and David Fincher did that. The original was like a TV movie and David Fincher made it cinematic and closer adaption to the book.

  • @RhodesidesReviews

    Film of the year, not seen the original or read the book (will do at least 1 in time). However its the first Fincher film i didn't get bored with

  • @TricksterVision
    @TricksterVision 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have to correct you on something. You say Swedish/American. Fincher's GWTDT is the English language version. Very much so not American. Shot on location in Sweden. Despite an American director and lead actress.

    @alleygh0st I don't think you could fairly describe the films as "bad." They're not for everyone, but they're not bad films. I watched the first one on a whim knowing nothing about it and got an adrenaline high I enjoyed it so much. But then I had no hype, no rave reviews and no expectations.
    My advice is to watch the first one with an open-mind, don't expect anything life changing, and enjoy a decent thriller. If you don't like Lisbeth at the end there's no point watching the rest.

    There is a dubbed version but I think that the voice acting is so terrible that it ruins the film; i just annoyed with the amateurish way things were said. I quickly swapped and I instead watched it with the subtitles and honestly I did not really notice I was reading words and watching scenes at the same time. Overall, I felt it was an interesting film but there was an emotional detatchment from all of the characters that left me feeling I had just observed something rather than experienced it. Maybe that was the intention but I never really cared for anyone (maybe except the old man who had asked for the decades old crime to be re-investigated).

    Let Me In is definitely a remake of the swedish film. It has some subtle nods to the book, but it's mostly a remake. It's structured similarly, and it even has scenes not in the book exclusive to the swedish movie. I love Let Me In, but I'm not going to deny the truth.

    Which is a sad reflection of the American film industry.
    The same American film industry which re-heats classic horror films (Texas Chainsaw Massacre,Last House on the Left, Nightmare on Elm Street), applies that horrible green/yellow tint and sucks the soul out of the film.
    The same American film industry which forces us to watch unwatchable 3d films. From the highs of the Godfather, Serpico and Jaws, to the lows of Transformers....no wonder European and Asian cinima is on the rise.

    Well I think the story indicated some people are aroused by sexual violence that was part of the expose of it what you or I might think repulsive as a normal emotional response others are actually turned on about that's how we know what a disgusting world we live in and indeed why lots of pervs are enabled too because the subject matter is just too intense for some to discern in a mature fashion.

  • @iloveneytiri
    @iloveneytiri 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The Fincher version is better IMO. And its a remake of the book, not of the film so I don't understand the problem. A lot of great TV and Films are coming out of Scandinavia at the moment but strangely Let The Right One In and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo both had better remakes/American versions! Which I never thought i'd say. Although the rape scene was equally brutal.

    • @TheAkal

      The originals were way better. The performances were more believable. The retreads were exactly that. Noomi Rapace was Lisbeth.

    I love The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Brilliant! Rooney superb as Salander.
    Wait, I think Mark is reviewing original Swedish version which I've also seen on blu-ray & the picture was grainy & not a patch on Fincher's version.

    @xxxted78 well come on, its a different take on the book. not a direct remake of the other movie, like let me in/let the right one in. so i sort of understand it.

    Sorry Mark but I think you are wrong about the dubbing of animated films. Often they are terribly miscast and totally deviate from the intended original character. Meh

    The film’s terrifically acted, terrifically directed, well written, brutal, stylish, effective & is A non stop intriguing crime thriller based on one of the best Scandinavian crime books. (91%) (4.5/5 stars) (positive)

    I saw the Swedish version directed by Oplev first and I thought it was much stronger than Fincher'a movie. Fincher's was also mis-cast. The Bjurman character was too young. I don't feel that Fincher will ever make the other two.

    I work, and have a busy life, but that still does not explain why most of Europe (who also work, and have wives and kids) can watch subtitled films?
    They are no more or less intelligent. I suspect it is a cultural arrogance and poor education that means the rest of the world has to cater to the English speaking market.
    Nope-if anything you have just proved my point-its lazyness, which isn't how life works either.....

    The type of people who watch English remakes of foreign films, are clearly the same people who have to have name labels on every item of clothing, laugh at poo and wee jokes, have strings attached to their gloves, and think Family Guy is the highest form of political satire.
    Everybody else in Europe has subtitles for English shows, why can't we have them for foreign films, instead of dumb down reheats?

    There's a problem with the bbfc's criteria of "eroticism of sexual violence" ...the problem being the uncomfortable fact of sexual violence being highly erotic

    The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo is a lame, cheesy and cheap rip-off as compared to the original. It should have never been made. I'm surprised Stellan Skarsgaard is in it.I thought h'd know better than accept a role in sth like that.

    Watched it at the weekend. Don't believe the hype, it's quite possibly the most vile misogynistic nihilistic contrived piece of crap i've ever seen. After all the original manuscript was called 'Men who hate women'. It's also unfeasibly long at a little under two and three quarter hours. Dreadful stuff
