I have seen this done so many different times and could never get it. Your video finally made it so easy to understand. Thank you SO very much for this. You have a new subscriber.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad I could help. Pin stitch has saved me so many times and is now part of my daily stitching life. I hope you get lots of enjoyment from it too 🥰
Katrina Munguia Oh Katrina, come to my place - there's plenty of projects here you can try it on lol! I'm so glad you like it, and I hope you enjoy using it (when you get chance!) Happy stitching :) x
I’ve been cross stitching off and on for about 50 years, but never came across the pinstitch. Thank you for making my stitching life easier. Also, there are charts I love but wouldn’t attempt because of the hassle of too many orphan stitches. Now I can do anything. ❤️
This was clearly the very best demonstration of a pin stitch!! Your diagrams and then detail of how you’re stitching finally helped me figure out this technique!! Thank you!
Ok, just found this and thought...how have I been stitching for so many years and never knew about this!?!? This is the answer to the dots on my 'i's and confetti stitches - YAY! Thank you for such a great tutorial and taking it step by step - very easy to follow!!
Traci Rickert That's exactly what I thought when I found it too! LOL. I use this technique a lot now, and not only for solitary stitches. Thank you for your kind comments :) x
I just started stitching again on a 15 year UFO that had isolated stitches. Now I can take out those old stitches (and the carrying thread) from this very open linen and have a much neater end project. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips!
Thank you so much for sharing this solution for isolated stitches. It is a real eye-opener. I never heard of it before. It will help me through my next project with many isolated stitches. Thanks to you I know how to stitch them!
Ella Hanzon Designers love to include isolated stitches on their charts, us stitchers don't especially love them though! Now there is a solution.....yay! I hope you enjoy using it. Happy stitching :) x
I ran into problems on a project and my sister suggested I use the pinhead stitch.... not ever hearing about this I looked for a video! Fabulous job showing me how to do this! I was thrilled to see you had one for us stitchers! Thank you!!
+Carole Nelms Thank you so much Carole. It's amazing what you can find on the internet these days, and this was no exception. I just knew there would be others like me that had never heard of it before. I use it regularly and it's great. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you and your family :) x
Carolyn. Thank you so much for sharing the Pin Stitch . I just now tried it on my project and it works great. I prefer to start and end my threads from the front and now it is a lot easier. Thanks again Bonnie
crossstichgram You're very welcome Bonnie. I'm so glad you like it and that it will make your stitching easier, and maybe even a little more fun! Happy stitching :) x
Carolyn you did it again! Helping me with new ideas and very good videos on how to do certain techniques. Thank you showing all of us this way of stitching one lonely little stitch. You do all the research and are kind enough to share. You ARE the best! 🌟
Rena Furman Awww thank you SO much Rena :) I'm always happy to share with my stitchy friends.... I know you are all appreciative of the time it takes to do these videos, and that's why I continue to do them. I have to keep reminding myself that not everyone has seen or used what I have, so therefore they can learn something new. Even if these videos only help 1 person, then I'm happy to have been the one to show them. Gives me the warm fuzzies to help others ;) I hope you enjoy using this technique, and you think of me when you're doing those isolated stitches :) Happy stitching xx
Thanks so much for this tutorial. You kept apologizing bc you were viewing your work through the camera: I thought you did a fantastic job! No need for the apology. I have a tiny tip of my own. I work on 14 ct. Aida with a size 24 needle. I have trouble hitting the exact area for this stitch so I go to the trouble to unthread and retread on to a chenille or regular embroidery needle (anything with a sharp point).to do the pin stitch. I use this more for ending and will use the chenille needle for the whole stitch if it’s just one. Thanks again. Now I’m going to go binge watch your channel while I rest my shoulder. 😉
tiglath p Thank you. I hope you didn't look too close at my nails! I'm not very good at doing nail polish, my daughter usually does it for me. But I figured you're all here to watch the stitching anyway :) Happy stitching xx
Just found your tutorial and are very glad, indeed. You are very clear in showing exactly how to do this stitch. Thank you. Just subscribe and look forward to more videos from you 🌹
Thank you, thank you for this. I have been stitching for 30+ years and did not know about this. I like the loop method to start, but this will be so useful for ending. Love your tutorials. :)
Marsha Temple Now that I've discovered this technique, I often use it for ending my threads too. I wish I'd known about it many years ago! Thanks for watching and happy stitching :) x
Absolutely brilliant, I need this technique right now on the seahorse I am stitching on Bluebeard's Princess. Thank you so much for sharing this technique.
Thank you. This is a complete game changer 💖 no more messing around finishing threads on the back. I'm about to start a more complex (than I've done before, anyway 🤣) full coverage, this will make things so much less bulky on the back.
Thank you so much for your very clear instructions. Being self taught, I had never heard of pin stitch and then when I did, through various cross stitch groups I belong to - all the videos I watched on youtube seemed so complicated. You have been a life saver 😃
Thank you for your clear explanations. I recently took cross stitching up and have learnt so much from you. The pin stitch video has solved so many questions i had.
+Ali Pearce My pleasure Ali, and thank you so much for the compliments. I wish I'd known about this technique many years ago... would have saved a lot of headaches! Oh well, at least I can help prevent others' from the same dilemmas. Take care and happy stitching :) x
I'm finding your videos (and enjoying them) just in the at the right time. I've picked up my Cross-stitching again after a 20 year 'break' and I'm loving these little tips!
+Laurel Campbell Hi Laurel, I just noticed that I can now reply to your comment! Thank you so much for your very kind words - I'm so happy that you've found the videos helpful. I too am constantly learning new things, and it's so much fun trying something different. Take care and happy stitching :) x
Thanks for a great tutorial on the pin stitch, I never knew how to finish with a pin stitch you have made it very clear. I've looked at other tutorials and this one is the best. Anne
Thank you so much for posting this video and explaining how to do a pin stitch. I only recently discovered your stitching videos, and had never before heard of a pin stitch. Using pin stitching for beginning or finishing a cross stitch in cases of confetti or isolated stitches is GENIUS!!! I wish I had known about this years ago!! I've really enjoyed watching your video.
Ive been putting off doing a little project because I hated the idea or running the threads all over the place for just 1 stitch.. now I can finish it!! thanks!
Joanne B You're welcome Joanne. I hope you enjoy using it. I've used it so many times since this video and I absolutely love it. It's a great way to use up those little bits of thread that are no longer useful for the loop start. Happy stitching :) x
Hi Caroline. Excellent video which will solve a pet hate of mine...loose stitches. Love your videos. So informative and helpful. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for taking the mystery out of the pin stitch! I've attempted it before but wasn't doing it right so I gave up. This will be so useful. You were very clear in your demonstration!
Calico Thank you so much... that means a lot! I think it's much easier to learn through a visual demonstration rather than reading instructions. I hope you give it another go :) Happy stitching x
Carolyn, I watched this video when first posted and was intrigued by the pinhead stitch. I used it on my current project and was very impressed on how well it works. Thanks for the instructive video.
Thank you for sharing what you learned regarding the pin stitch. I saw a different tutorial however she did it upside down from you and cut her threads on the top side of her work. When I tried it that way it left little tufts of thread on the front of my work. This is much cleaner. Thank you Happy Stitching!
This is so helpful; thank you for teaching us. Really appreciate that you took the time to demonstrate this technique- much easier to understand when someone shows how to do something rather than just reading how to do it. Thanks again :)
Thanks for the great tutorial. I recently read about pin stitching, but was confused. I'm more of a visual person, so your video was very helpful in understanding it. I will have to try it out when I do isolated stitches. I won't have to avoid patterns with one stitch here and one stitch there.
katiestitch60 I'm a visual person too - which is probably why my wish list has exploded since TH-cam! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope it is of use to you. Happy stitching :) x
This was an amazing tutorial!!! I will be referring back to it for sure. I love that the pin stitch eliminates the need to run thread under the back of your work. Now I know that you can even end with a pin stitch under a stitch if needed. Life saver!
I have been using this frequently now to end my stitches. Another floss tuber showed a variation to start the stitch by coming up at 1, down at B, up at 2, down at B then up at 3, down at 4. Basically the first half cross is the anchor. This seems to work very well too especially if not able to use your front loop method. Thanks again for your fab tutorials.
Hi Carolyn! Thanks so much for showing this. I'd discovered this stitch about a month and half ago, but just haven't had the chance to test it out enough to feel comfortable recommending it to everyone. The one I found is slightly different, and it only shows starting the thread, which I was very happy about given how much hand-dyed floss I will be using in the coming months. I prefer my way for starting when doing more than one stitch because it looks no different than the normal stitch next to it. Yours is perfect for the isolated stitches as you've shown. Bravo!
Tricia - the left-handed stitcher Thanks Tricia :) There's a different technique to finishing it too, but this way works and I didn't want to confuse people. I guess I've sparked an interest and hopefully people will do their own research to 'tweak' it the way they like. Happy stitching :) x
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us this technique. Just what I needed for a small project I am working on. I have cross stitched for years and never quite knew how to handle random stitches...and now I can do it!
I have some pieces I haven’t finished because I knew the remaining elements really needed a pin stitch to finish, but I’ve had a hard time finding a good tutorial. Thank you for making yours so clear!
Thank you so much. This will really help when I try do cross country stitching on a HAED. I prefer to work the least stitches first and work up to the ones that are the most stitches to try keep the back a bit more tidy. Will definitely enjoy using this technique for that.
Stitching In SA I think it will work great for a HAED. When I read that it was good for lots of colours, the HAEDs were the first thing that came to mind. I hope you enjoy using it. Happy stitching ;) x
Thank you for this tutorial! I have heard of this before and tried it, but have never found any instructions I could get a grasp on...this was sooo helpful to actually see it worked! Wonderful! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I love it! I watched one yesterday and I could not see what she was doing because the camera was so far away but yours is fantastic! Very clear, easy to see and easy to understand!
Thank you Carolyn for this tutorial. I can never remember the pin stitch, so when I need it, I always come back to your channel for the tutorial. Have a happy and safe 2021. Hugs, Diane
Pyrex Stitches I wish I'd researched it when I first heard about it (which was ages ago now!). I certainly could have used it 100s of times since then. Happy stitching :) x
thank you for such a clear explanation. I am so sorry that your videos came to an end. I imagine they took a lot of time and energy. I hope you are keeping well. Best wishes from the UK.
I know this is an old video, but thank you for this. I found a post on Reddit where someone recommended this one for using the pin stitch, showing for different number of threads. I'm new to cross stitch & I'm currently working on a stamped cross stitch that uses 3 strands. With it being stamped, it's kind of hard to see whether it looks okay doing the pin stitch with 3 threads (like, is it too bulky or obvious?) but looking at your example I think it'll be okay. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us, I can tell by the comments here you've helped so many of us! Much appreciated.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. This is a new stitch for me but I will be using it alot. So, much easier then trying to hold a tail on the back & catch it. Plus very neat so your back can look as good as your front using this. Great tutorial even for a beginner.
Personally, this is the best tutorial for the pinhead stitch (because I understood it, finally!) Thank you so much! I saw an illustration of this in a publication years ago, but didn't think I needed it. Now that I'm working on a project that feels like it's half made with confetti, I'm so glad I found your video. Thanks again!
Kat You're very welcome Kat - it's a great feeling to find a technique just in time for when you really need it. I'm glad you found the video helpful and that it will be of use to you.... that makes my day :)Happy stitching :) x
Thanks Carolyn!! I was just getting ready to start a new thread as I started this video so I tried it out and I love it! I think I will start all my threads from now on like this :)
Khristine Doiron It's great isn't it? I love using it for those small bits of thread that are no longer any good for doing the loop start with..... no more wastage :))))
Crenee Yes I had seen it for backstitch too, but I've yet to try it out. Maybe that will be the next video ;) I hope you enjoy using it :) Happy stitching x
Hi Carolyn - great teaching tutorial, you are excellent at doing it. Thanks for sharing this technique with everybody and I know it will come in very useful for lots of different projects. Take care Hugs Amanda x
maria simone Aww you're very welcome! I enjoy sharing with my stitchy friends - I've also learnt a lot since starting this journey. I'm having a ball :) x
Thanks fot the tutorial :) You explained it perfectly. I did get a tad worried halfway through before you demonstrated how to finish the stitch on aida, I automatically thought the finishing pin sitch would be on top of the cross not thread underneath! Silly me. Glad to see that's not the case ;)
+Jan Gardner My pleasure Jan. There are various stitching techniques you can try with HAEDs... personally I prefer parking and I start with the loop method, but of course it does all depend on how many strands of thread you are using. There is also the waste knot start, which is new to me, but I'm trying it out for the first time tonight. Take care and happy stitching :) x
Carla 30por1linha Well in that case I'm very happy to show it to you! It's always great to learn new stitch techniques :) I hope you enjoy using it. Happy stitching :) x
Thank you for another awesome tutorial! Still trying to watch all your videos, I haven't gotten into the habit of having Flosstube on while stitching -- don't know if I can multitask like that but I will try because there's so much to watch here! Someone mentioned in the comments that this technique will work for backstitching and my brain is not making the connection at the moment so looking forward to you explaining that in another video hopefully :) Thanks again for all that you do, you inspire me.
Jill Swank Thank you so much Jill. Yes I remember someone commenting that also and I've made a mental note to look into it. I've just had so much to organise this month, and my stitching has taken a backwards step. So hopefully I can free up some time to investigate this further and do another tutorial on it. Thank you so much for watching - Happy Stitching :) x
Thank you for showing that technique. I have almost finished the Mirabilia Spring Queen and was concerned about running threads behind my work when doing the small individual stitches on the outside of the bouquet of flowers. After all of the work I had done on the piece I didn't want to ruin it by having the threads show through the back. This demonstration couldn't have come at a more appropriate time for me. Now I can finish the piece, get it framed and hung. Thanks again!
Cindy Weigle That's exactly where I was at too Cindy, which prompted the search for this technique. I'm so glad the timing worked out for you. Happy stitching :) x

Thanks Carolyn for the video. I will certainly use this stitch. Very helpful! Love your nails! Teal is my favorite color.

Thank you so much for the demo. I started hearing about the pin stitch but had no idea what it was. Very well explained.
I have been using this frequently now to end my stitches. Another floss tuber showed a variation to start the stitch by coming up at 1, down at B, up at 2, down at B then up at 3, down at 4. Brenda Tomlinson Glad you enjoyed it Brenda - thanks for watching :) x
Thanks for the video, Carolyn. Another technique to add to my cross stitch arsenal
Febby Marsh You're very welcome - I hope you enjoy using it :)
Happy stitching x
Thank you so very much for your detailed instructions!
Thanks for this amazing tutorial. It’s gonna be very useful!
Carolyn Mazzeo I know and I love how neat and tidy the back looks :)!!! Thanks again!
Khristine Doiron You're welcome - I just wish I could take the credit for "inventing" it lol!
Thanks so much Carolyn! I'd never heard of this stitch and I can really see this working for backstitch too!💙
Crenee Yes I had seen it for backstitch too, but I've yet to try it out. Maybe that will be the next video ;)
I hope you enjoy using it :)
Happy stitching x
Had to come watch again, this time for evenweave fabric. Thanks again! :)

Happy stitching :) x
Most helpful pin stitch! Thank you
Thank u so much! This is what I needed for my hummingbird project. The flower has yellow pollen floating.
maria simone I thought many people would find it useful.... designers seem to love isolated stitches - us stitchers, not so much!
Happy stitching :) x
Lol!....that is true. I want to thank u for helping us in all levels of stitching....and everyday life by having us be a part of ur experience.
maria simone Aww you're very welcome! I enjoy sharing with my stitchy friends - I've also learnt a lot since starting this journey. I'm having a ball :) x

Nice to hear a fellow Aussie!
Thank you for such a clear, concise explanation and demo.
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I finally understand how to do this stitch
This is brilliant. Thank you for sharing and for your excellent demonstration.
+Amy Davidson My pleasure Amy - I'm so glad you found it helpful :) x
Thank you so much for your great explanation and demonstration of the pin stitch!
BecR34 Luckily I had seen the diagrams before I stitched it, so I knew the trick ;) I hope you get some use out of this technique :)
Happy stitching x
Thank you for that clear instruction! 😊
Very nice and I found it very helpful! Thank you!
That is so helpful. I am trying to start using a lapstand and I didn't want to be flipping it around every thime I ended a stitch. Thanks so much.
Thank you, will use that load I expect, when I start doing my HAED. Very easy to follow x
Thank you so much Carolyn, as usual your demo's are useful and clear. :)
Gillmae Thank you so much!
Happy stitching x
Thanks for sharing!! I never heard about that technique, and it is really great and useful!
Carla 30por1linha Well in that case I'm very happy to show it to you! It's always great to learn new stitch techniques :) I hope you enjoy using it.
Happy stitching :) x
thank you so much for this great tutorial! 🤗🍀
Very cool, thank you - you're a great teacher Carolyn!
Thank you so much for this technique. My back was getting way too bulky with lots of color transitions. Going to go try this now!
Excellent tutorial. Your video went into my keeper file. Thank you for sharing!
Organic Granny Awesome! That's a huge compliment :)) I hope you enjoy using it.
Happy stitching :) x
This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing these methods!
Great tutorial....going to give it a go on my next project!
Thank you so much Carolyn that is an awesome technique.
hugs,
Patty BC Canada

Emily Kallio My pleasure Emily. No I haven't, although I do a version of my own. Do you know of a video that shows it? :) x
Very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to make the video
