Just when you think you know everything a video like this comes along and showes you how much better your stitching can be. I cannot thank you enough!! I will start using your methods to make my work so much better than it has been and enjoy it more now that I do not have to stress over the choppy look of the edges under the backstitches. Thank you , thank you , thank you.
Good morning! Such good info! Steaming the creases and cloth, railroading description, half vertical and horizontal! Your information is soooo helpful! Thank you.
Lori, you are a born teacher! I’ve stitched for over 40 years and I’m still curious about how everyone stitches! Thank you for such a fun tutorial! Karen of Prom Queen Stitcher 🤓.
Hello I just tried your pressing method to remove my fold marks in my fabric from Hobby lobby and WOW it really worked ! Thank you so much ! I also posted in the group SYS 2023 to let my other Stitchy friends know and told them to check you out !👍😊🥰
Oh YEAH!!! I’m glad to hear that!!! I swear by it! It really relaxes the fibers and they chill out like they were never wrinkled. Something as simple as that! And thanks for that shout out to your friends! 💙 thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this information which is going to be useful as I have not always happy with my cross stitch faces. I love all your flosstubes which I have gone back and watched them all. Happy stitching
Loved this tutorial ! I've stitched since the late 70's, stitching exactly as you demonstrated. Just felt good to be validated. YOU did an awesome job !
BOB AND TOM!! Thank you for the reminder - loved those guys! This video was a game changer for me. You're a natural teacher and I laughed a lot at your, ahem, lack of ducks! Rock on and happy stitching!
OMGOODNESS ! This video was sooooo awesome! I’ve railroaded my last leg only and now I’m definitely going to try this method of both ! Never heard of vertical stitches and have learned so much ! I’ll be watching this a few more times as I try all of these ! Thank you
This video was a game changer for me 😊. I’ve railroaded my top stitch for a few years now but never the bottom stitch. What a difference doing that bottom stitch makes. Woohoo! Doing a big ass happy dance 😃.
Wonderful video, I learned techniques new to me. My only confusion was calling two differently oriented stitches “horizontal”. I would have used “vertical” for the stitch running north and south, and “horizontal” for the one running east and west. But, overall your directions were clear and the video very well done. Thank you!
Lori you are amazing, I tried you needle threading with 3 strands and amazed how well that worked, thank you so much. And yes I will subscribe to you channel.
Watched your video for 5 minutes...saw your ducks....heard something about full frontal.....AND IMMEDIATELY KNEW THIS IS WHERE I BELONG!!! NEW SUBSCRIBER HERE. 😂😂😂Love your realness..PLEASE dont ever change. ❤ P.S. YEAH TOOOOAAAST!!! 😂😂😂 That song never gets old. Fun fact: Im actually in Indianapolis where Bob and Tom record.
Omg Lori. That was great in your one single tutorial I learned so much . The sewing method is faster and railroading is a game changer. Your camera angle is perfect, and you make me laugh😆😆😆😄
Lori, you have put the sunshine back into my cloudy Michigan day! I do the railroad stitching but never knew splitting the thread would make your stitch lie flatter. This is one of the best tutorials I have seen on this. Didn't know about the vertical half stitches and horizontal half stitches either. I am pretty much a self-taught stitcher, and this video has really helped. Can't wait for your next one on beading. Have a great day. GO BLUE!
Hello you just popped up in my feed and the title caught my interest. This video is amazing and I am gonna have to watch it several times to catch all the invaluable tips. I’m so happy I watched and I just subscribed. Your stitching is lovely and now I feel the need to give “railroading” another try. Than You 😊
This is so very helpful!! Your instruction make me feel kinda, sorta, semi and somewhat confident to poorly attempt the sewing method! 😂 Thanks for taking time to do this!
Thanks for all the tips Lori, love the description of railroading and why its done - back to stitching (after a 20 year break) and only recently heard of it and did not know why it was done. But know I do! Oh and game change on threading the needle - you rock!
You never fail to crack me up! I love the last "duck" to give compliments of Mystic Fabrics. Your sense of humor is wonderful and makes me miss my native Michigan. I was born and raised in a small rural farming community about 25 miles north of Bay City, and our neighbor was one of the biggest farmers in the area so we were surrounded by corn, hay, whey pits, and cowsh*t. The only thing that my little town might have been famous for was Iva's Chicken Dinners (which I never cared for that much personally). Thank you so much for showing how you stitch and giving at least me something to mull over and think about trying a new method, especially since I have been railroading only the top threads and have been ending up with uneven threads at the end. Good luck back at work. Hope things good well for you and hope your foot does well. Happy stitching!
Thanks so much Dawn! Born and raised Michigander. We came close to moving out of state but decided not to after all. Thanks for watching and Happy Stitching!
Thanks, that was super helpful. Heaps of new techniques for me to try out. I’m a new stitcher so much easier for me to change stitching methods and try out different techniques before I get too set in my ways.
So much useful information!!! I am newly returned to stitching, so I hadn't even heard of railroading until I came back. When I looked it up, I found several people who said you only had to do the top leg. I can clearly see the difference if doing the bottom leg too. Your stitches are incredibly even and cover so beautifully. I will absolutely be trying it on my next start. Also, showing us the partial and squished stitches and then showing where you would use them on an actual pattern is life changing. I bought a kit a few years ago (thinking I was going to be stitching again back then) but there was a lot of bleed over the backstitching and it looked sloppy. I loved the image so much I got it anyway thinking there must be a way to fix that. You have shown me the way. Now I just need to find it so I can see how I can apply your methods to clean up their lines. I'm so excited!! Thank you so, so much for sharing with us!
Very helpful. I am on my second viewing. I have been trying the sewing method, and can do ok with a line of stitches forward and back but I am struggling to travel around :( I hope you do another video of the sewing method!! I would love to see the sewing method in a qsnap and filling in an area! Thank you for your time!! Blessings!
OMG!! What a trip down memory lane!I lived in the Indianapolis area in the 1980’s, and Bob and Tom were a part of every morning! I loved their many characters including Heywood Banks! Loved this video-great information!
Really enjoyed the video, Lori. I've been stitching a very long time, approx. 40 yrs?, but I'm always looking for new insights and methods. I particularly found your approach to stitching skin very informative. And I couldn't agree more with you about railroading. Now to search and see if you ever did the bead video. Thx. Steph
I find if I pull the threads through slowly right before they lay down, they usually do not twist. I also drop my needle if I see them starting to twist. Love your stitches and thank you for showing that threading the needle trick.
This was so instructive and amazing to see such beautifully stitched Miras! Thank you. I would be interested to see how you apply this technique "in action", when the stitches aren't neatly in rows but scattered all over the place, some of them already filled in. How do you choose the order in which to stitch them? Do you always go up and down in the same corners? And did you say you use a q-snap with the sewing method, how does that work?
Thanks for showing the railroading while stitching in hand using the sewing method. That’s how I stitch and I spend a lot of unnecessary time getting those threads to lay parallel. Now I understand how I can incorporate railroading. I am also stitching Stargazer and have been leaving the skin till last. I understand & appreciate the horizontal & vertical stitches now 😁 If I may, could I ask your opinion on stitching skin one over one rather than stitching cross stitches as charted? Thanks for posting videos & sharing your processes 🙋♀️🇨🇦
I’ve done a couple of pieces over one and I found it to be time consuming. The look is really nice but if the tension isn’t there, it can look uneven. Thanks for watching!
Late discovering this video - very entertaining and informative. Regarding partial stitches on Aida, have you ever tried a chenille needle? As someone who did crewel and other embroidery before starting cross stitch, that was my first impulse to pierce those spots between the holes. I usually keep one nearby in the box with my snag nab it, ripper and threader. Thanks again for a great video xoxo
What a great tutorial!!! Very easy to follow...and id much rather have you as a teacher than any of the ones i remember having❤ i could listen to you talk all day! I have a question. What is the name of the website or etsy we can go to purchase kays project bags? I havent been able to find them. They look amazing! I have followed since video one and look forward to your videos every week. I worked EMS and worked closely with law enforcement and mostly male dominated field, so i feel like we are "soul sisters"...lol😂...its a different world. Anyway...dont change a thing.
Very interesting and informative ... I'm genuinely curious as to why I shouldn't count the selvedge edge when I'm finding the center of my fabric. I mean I get that it would not truly center my piece on my fabric, but it doesn't seem like it would put things that far off that it would matter and it won't be seen once it's framed, right? I don't think I've ever paid attention to the selvedge edge when I center start. I do know that I haven't counted it when I've started in the top left. I'm also now wondering if I'm using the wrong kreinik. I'm not sure I realized there was more than one weight. Yours looks way thicker than mine and on my current project that calls for it, I kinda feel like it's hardly showing and maybe that's why, it's not thick enough. I also can't wait to get home tonight and try to thread my needle (especially with the kreinik) that way. I spend way too much time trying to get that stupid stuff threaded! Thanks for all the info! ~Katrina
Hi Lori! I’m so loving your videos. You are so knowledgeable and the giggles are ever so welcomed and appreciated!! I adore your sense of humor, much needed these days! So, I’m very new to stitching, about 6 months now, anything you teach us is awesome to me!! I was wondering if you could at some point do a tutorial on picking the right size fabric counts. I did my first cross stitch, which was supposed to be a small pillow, on 14 count Aida and it ended up being a large walk hanging, lol!! I was clueless at the time and still kind of am. Can we only stitch smalls on say 36 and up? Cause I sure can’t stitch on those yet!! Anyhow, advice like that would be awesome!! Hope all goes well heading back to work. Take good care! 😊❤
I was stitching so I tried your technique…. On 18 count that I purposely started this project on because I couldn’t figure out why you SO dislike 18 count. I never remember it being a PIA to work with years ago. ( I took a 17 yr break from stitching) Well let me join your anti 18 count club! It’s like pushing toothpaste back into the tube. 2 strands through 16 count is much smoother. Great video!
Fantastic video! Question: you said you sew stitch using a snap frame. How can you do this w it being taut. I sew stitch in hand and would love to see how you do it w snap frame. Great video!
Hi Leslie! It’s on my plans to cover in a near future video! It’s quite simple actually I just need to figure out how I can record it to show :) Thanks for watching!
Dude, I couldn’t figure out why my 2 ends started out even and by the time I finish they are uneven!! 🤯. So much fun stuff to try too. I am struggling with my backstitching on Dark Queen of the sea and would have done the stitching of her skin so different now!! Thanks so much for sharing this with me!!! Oh and I am totally out of “uck”s I have none to share 😂
You are AMAZING!!! That was THE BEST TUTORIAL ever! Your camera angle was perfect, and the information was priceless. One question: I stitch with the sewing method in hand, but still poke and stab when using a hoop or q snap. How taut do you keep your fabric when using the sewing method in your q snap? Thanks a million for everything - and best wishes as you return to work!
Thank you so much. I would like to see how you sew stitch in your qsnap where you only are doing say 2 stitches of a color at a time. Example a flower using multiple colors. You tutorial is fantastic saving try this video to watch again.
Hi Wish I found this information years ago, now I look at my items and OH Dear they could have been so much better. Thank you, will start railroading and stop sucking thread. LOL Hugs ann
Can you tell me what you do to see the finer weave material. I am a new subbie to your channel and just getting back into Crosstitch after 32 years I’ve only used 14 count adia cloth
Welcome to my little corner of the world! I’m pretty laid back so apologies ahead of time for the sailor mouth 😆. The easiest way when first starting is to use a magnifying type of light and that will help you! 🦋💙🦋
That is called railroading. By splitting the floss on each side of the needle, the threads will lay side by side instead of tangled, which will make your stitching lay smoother and help in preventing knots. 💙🐈⬛🦋
Oh no, you can not go back to work. That will interfere with our stitchy time. You just took the mystery out of face stitching. Do you do 1 over 1 in faces as well? I am anxious to see a tutorial on beading and then maybe I will try a Mirabilia. I love your teaching style. Thank you for doing this tutorial❣️
I have done one over one face stitching but I will be completely honest I am not a fan of it! I did my Red Lady Pirate and Tiger Lily with one over one. I can add it to the list to show if it will be helpful :)
First time on your Flosstube… love this tutorial so much!!! Thank you for taking the time to show the chart and all those stitches 🧵
Oh you bet! I’m all for teaching and helping make it easier!! Thanks for watching!! 💙🐈⬛🦋
Just when you think you know everything a video like this comes along and showes you how much better your stitching can be. I cannot thank you enough!! You’re more than welcome welcome welcome! Yeah!!
Good morning! Such good info! Steaming the creases and cloth, railroading description, half vertical and horizontal! Your information is soooo helpful! Thank you.
Absolutely!! Thanks for taking the time to watch! 🐈⬛💙🦋
This is the first video that made sense of the sewing method. Thank you so much!
You are more than welcome! Glad it helped! 💙🐈⬛🦋
First timer on your floss tube and I’m hooked 🎉
Well thanks so much for watching! I apologize for any excessive swearing 😂🤣🦋🐈⬛💙
Lori, you are a born teacher! I’ve stitched for over 40 years and I’m still curious about how everyone stitches! Thank you for such a fun tutorial! Karen of Prom Queen Stitcher 🤓.
Aww thanks so much!! I appreciate that!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

First time viewer and loved your instructions on doing the mirabilia face❤
Hi Tammy! Glad you found me :)

Railroad stitching is going to be a game changer for me! Thanks for the tutorial
Absolutely!!! More to come in the near future:) thanks for watching 🐈⬛🦋💙
You crack me up! Loved the ducks at the beginning!
Lol glad I could make you smile :) thanks for watching!
Omg Lori. That was great in your one single tutorial I learned so much . The sewing method is faster and railroading is a game changer. Your camera angle is perfect, and you make me laugh😆😆😆😄
I’m glad I could help! I honestly think when I’m done ‘is this really gonna help?’ because it’s so second nature for me! I’m glad it does!
Lori, you have put the sunshine back into my cloudy Michigan day! I do the railroad stitching but never knew splitting the thread would make your stitch lie flatter. GO BLUE!!! 💙 😬 I’m so glad I’ve helped! Yeah!! And thank you for the sweet compliments
Thank you for showing us your stitching method. Lickers unite! I used to just railroad the top stitch but you have me rethinking that.
It will make a big difference trust me on that! ;)
Thank you so much for this. Watching how you breakdown and determine what stitch to use where in faces was amazing!
I’m glad it’s so useful!
Hello you just popped up in my feed and the title caught my interest. This video is amazing and I am gonna have to watch it several times to catch all the invaluable tips.

I tried your threading hack....is it a hack?....I tried it and color me surprised...it worked. I didn't doubt, I just never had....

Very interesting and informative ...

Good question Barbara! Since the q snap is in question, I’m adding it to the list to show an ‘in progress’ snap edition :)
@@crossstitchcatsandchaos Can’t wait! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. I would like to see how you sew stitch in your qsnap where you only are doing say 2 stitches of a color at a time. Example a flower using multiple colors. You tutorial is fantastic saving try this video to watch again.
Oh tweeding the floss? I will add that for sure to the list! :) thanks so much!
Hi Wish I found this information years ago, now I look at my items and OH Dear they could have been so much better. Thank you, will start railroading and stop sucking thread. LOL Hugs ann
Ann I did the same thing! I look at my earlier works the same way but that’s how you grow as a stitcher 💙 thanks for watching!
I would like to see the beading process! I learned today horizontal stitch never new you can do that ❤
Beading video to come in the near future! :) thanks for watching!
Have you ever used Huck embroidery needles for projects? I was wondering if the curved needle is a benefit or detriment.
I have not used them. I usually sticks to what works for me and helps me through the process and a quick pace.
Great video, have you see Gentle Arts color Ohio Sky..it matches our sky perfectly a lot of days.
Lol similar to #PureMichigan LOL
Hi Lori, could you show us how you sew stitch in a qsnap? Thanks. Absolutely love your videos. ❤❤
Yup it’s in my list of ‘to do’s’! Thanks so much!
It's never duck. It's NEVER duck 😏
🤣🤣🤣🤣 🦆
how comes the needle splits through the floss before going back down.Drop me a line when you get aminute thanks
That would be helpful. I am curious about it as so many speak about it. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Yea toast, and I believe there’s one called big butter Jesus lol
🤣🤣
Yes. It’s the salvage.
What pattern is your beautiful mermaid?
Lilith of Labrador from Mirabilia. I show her finished in my first floss tube, I believe. I added andromeda’s rock though.
