Well done. I got my PPL two years ago at the age of 70 and moved from a Piper 140 to a high performance Piper 6/300 a year ago and I've never looked back.
This is so relatable! I got my license right after becoming a vet, but then did a residency, got married, and had kids. I'll get back up there someday soon, but I don't regret a minute I've spent working on it! Thanks for posting this!
After dreaming about it for a couple of decades, I got my pilot license in 2003. I rented a plane a few times after that but life happened; got married, bought a house, had several bouts of unemployment, the usual. I didn't have my first bi-annual flight review... until November 2020. I had wanted for some time to get back in the air, but wasn't sure what type of flying I really wanted to do. I had considered something more basic, like a powered parachute or an ultralight, for example. But earlier in 2020 Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 was released. I had been looking forward to it very much and it didn't disappoint. The sense of realism created by their use of real mapping and photography data was a quantum leap beyond that offered by competitors such as X-Plane. I had played with flight simulators for a long time; now I was actually *using* one. It rekindled my desire to fly, and to fly the way I had been. I went back to the same flight school and got current again. Like you, I was flying one of the same planes I had done my training in all those years ago. It had been significantly improved, of course. After that, I figured I'd rent for a couple years and then possibly buy my own aircraft, but fate had something else in mind. I was quickly reminded of the biggest disadvantage to renting which is that the plane you want is never available when you want it. So, as one does, I started looking around the usual sites to see what was available. I was mostly dreaming at first, but it turned out that I had some stock that I could sell and that I could actually afford a plane. And that's what I did. I was fortunate to find a plane that was right for my mission for sale at my home airport. I bought it in January of last year and, since then, I've more than doubled my total time. And, perhaps most importantly, I've taken my father flying in my own airplane. I don't really have much of a "bucket list" but that was certainly on it.
Awesome video and message Eric! I got my PPL in 1981 at the age of 18. Went to college, got married, and then focused on raising my family and starting a business. 35+ years later, I woke up one day and remembered I was a pilot! I took sent my $2 to the FAA and got a new plastic license, passed my 3rd class medical, and got some instruction and passed my biannual at the age of 56 years old. I went ahead and got my IR and Commercial Certificate and have never looked back! I had a 37 year break from flying and I am SO glad I got back into it. I never stopped looking up when an airplane was overhead. You either have got the bug or you don't. But if you have it, you need to embrace it and go for it! It ain't going away! I started in 1999, too - and finished up and got my ppl. Got 50 hours in and then sat on the sidelines for 20 years until last year. After watching many TH-cam videos, including yours, I finally contacted an instructor, flew with him for about 10 hours and have gotten 60+ hours since then. Most of which are trips around Texas with my wife. I also got to fly with my 20 year old son - something I have been dreaming about for his entire life. Thanks for these awesome videos! PS - the 172 I trained in in Dallas is now in Phoenix. Still training new pilots!
This is a great story! Very inspirational. My friend "Granny Annie" got her pilot's license in 1956, partly to prove a point to her husband who was a Sabre Jet pilot. One of the planes she trained in, an Aeronca Champ, is still flying in Ontario. I take her flying with me any chance I get, and she loves the flying stories. She will be 90 next year. She's my inspiration.
I related with this 100%. Solo’d when I was 15, PPL at 17. Then stopped flying because of school, career, wife, kids, mortgage etc. 15 years later I became recurrent again and can’t wait to buy my own plane one day.

Just looked through my logbook, and I have four flights logged in N19688 from when I started at Vista back in 2000. Very similar (and I'm finding common) story here, as I didn't end up getting my certificate until 2012.
Several youtubers, including your channel helped me make the decision to do my Discovery flight. I was completely surprised how claming yet stressful it was. I'll likely move forward with the entire process next year as much as I'd like to do it this year but aviation is forever =)
YES! The day this video was released we did our test flight in C-FMVU after a seven month complete strip down and re-furb. Can't wait to get those videos up for everyone to watch!
Great story! Old aviator here, king KX -170 isn’t a coffee grinder. Coffee grinder radios you had to pull out a knob called BFO which stands for best frequency oscillator, there would be a tone and you turned a crank on the face of the radio until the tone peaked out , then punch the knob back in and it was tuned. They were old and outdated when I started flying but lots of airplanes kept them as a backup. The FCC changed the rules and they split the frequencies and the old radios would bleed over to adjacent frequencies so they became illegal to repair.
Hello, I soloed in 688 in1992. Although I didn’t finish my ticket, (kids were 3 and 5 years old), my oldest surprised me with a flight in July 2020, at Vista, which is when I found out he was taking lessons and ended up receiving his ticket in June 2020.
I’m right there with you… started flying in ‘91, didn’t go far. 2000s came around, and I wanted to start again, but got married, two kids and got distracted again. I’m doing it now… I’ve solo’ed and am practicing for my practical and starting to study for the written while also stating to shop for my first airplane. Hoping to get it all done in time for the summer… and maybe, someday, I’ll get the family to come along with me. You and the channels you mentioned have been a part of my journey back to aviation.
A very familiar story! I got my PPL in 1977 and flew on and off for several years. I bought a 172M in 2017 and finally got an instrument rating and am working on commercial now! It can be a lifelong process!
Super impressed what you’ve been able to do since 2014. Life happened to me in ‘98. I started back up last year and will solo this month. Once I get passed the jealousy while watching your videos I really enjoy them and they inspire me. Total hits home since you’re a ginger brother as well! So feel this one. Passed my written last night, just have some instrument and a few more night landings before I start checkride prep. But I was similar in that I put the dream on hold for a long time while the kids grew up and went back to it last year. So very glad I did, I'm having the time of my life flying.
Hey Eric, really appreciate this video today. I'm almost done with my PPL, but sometimes motivation can wane. Recently I read comments from a pilot who was complaining about no one ever wanting to fly with him so he's always solo, and to come on and see the trips and adventures you've had with your family has reminded me why I'm putting in all this work in the first place. What a great clip. Enjoy every second of it. Glad that you finally get back in the air after 15 years. A passionate hobby is never too late. The key is prioritization. Some took up expensive hobby while they’re not ready (financially) and never comeback to it. Your timing was spot on.
I took 15 years off for family and career, just like you. I restarted flying last October and have flown 20 hours since. The weather is improving here and I'll be starting instrument training in about 2 weeks. I wish I never stopped but life got in the way.
Soooooo true! I finished my requirements but life (wife, daughter, work, buying a home) has postponed my check ride twice. Its a difference when you're a family man with a career than a young single person beginning their training. Thanks for sharing and giving me inspiration to finish the job.
This really resonates with me. I got part way through my PPL many years ago. Family & career took over and it got shelved. Now in my fifties, I walked into my local flying club a year ago and said word for word exactly the same thing as you. Because it had been so long I elected to start from scratch, and am now 50 hours in to my PPL training, with the end in sight. Same mixture of nervousness, excitement & exhilaration. Loved your video.
My story is very similar. I got all my ratings up to ATP written and then had to stop for 20 years to deal with life issues. Now I’m going back to regain my currency again and will post my progress as well. Love your channels you Flying Monkeys. Be safe.
Beautiful story, it touched my heart, especially in the part where the old Cessna plane was withdrawn and you felt that I was waiting for you to finish your pilot's license, I am in a similar situation, I am a 26-year-old boy who is an independent filmmaker and I I would like to live from my camera, and aviation calls me, maybe one day I'll be encouraged and become a pilot too. Man, I had the exact same story! Started primary in 2003, then life got in the way, flight bag sitting in storage getting dusty. Then one day it hit... it's time to fly! Didn't get to use the same plane but looking in the log book everything was ready, but decided to re-do all the XC just to be safe. Now here I am with my PPL thinking about the next place to fly to!

What a terrifically motivating video. I will reach the end of a 44 year career as a pilot this fall. While I am more than ready to say goodbye to flying a big fancy jet on somebody else’s nickel (and schedule), the thought of giving it up completely is creating some anxiety. I’ll be moving from New Jersey and will be selling off my quarter share in a 75 PA-28-235, I am hoping to keep going in my new life. You have validated that desire with this video and I want to thank you. The dream is still alive.
I can't help but feel like I want to get back in the cockpit. My wife got me a discovery flight back in 2003 and the first thing that the instructor asked was if I wanted to just do the flight, or if I was serious about getting my license. I opted to start on ground school that day with them and twice a week I flew, and I absolutely loved it. I got my medical, then progressed through all the steps.... first solo... solo cross country.... solo mountain trips.... It was awesome. I did a crash course weekend ground school, and passed my FAA with a 92. Now, to get my checkride. and.....that's when life happens. I had started a new business in 2001 and we built a new house, were trying (unsuccessfully for many years) for a family, and just short of 100 hours of flight time, and needing to just take my checkride, my bag sat on the shelf. Then, the economy turned sour, and we had two kids... and now, almost 20 years later, my Lightspeed headset and the David Clark I got my wife is sitting in my bag with stacks of maps and books. Now, this gives me that hunger to get back in there...... and to start flying again. Unfortunately, with a 12 and 9 year old, activities are crazy, money is tight and moving is on the short list this year. Maybe not this year.... maybe next year, but I WILL have my license before I'm 50...... For now, I'll live vicariously through you, Jason, and others out there. But, thank you for such a heartfelt story, and hearing something that echoes my path so very much -- minus the gorgeous Cherokee Six you have! Keep making awesome videos, and do what you do. We all thank you for it.
This is my story!!! Have 39 hrs and stopped for life, now 11years later I started ground school last week and go on my first flight lesson again next Saturday. I had some tears in my eyes watching this. My wife is also the same as your wife and now she is starting to get excited for me to finish. I remember doing some flights in n7744s with Vista Air In order to be prepared for California Baptist University flight school and it helped me out a strong foundation for private pilot. It was really great as I am working on my Dispatch rating and earning a degree in Aviation management.
Thank you for taking us along for the journey! My biggest regret with aviation is that I didn't start sooner. I would encourage anyone watching this video to go do a discovery flight. It will change your life. I am now in my early 40s, working on my PPL. Its been a blast! Also quite a bit of self-growth as well. It is challenging yet has been the best stress reliever I've found. Bad day at work? Swing by the airfield, grab a plane and go for a sunset cruise. Land with a giant s--- eating grin on my face. Also awesome: cell phones don't work above 2000' AGL. Priceless.

After 23 years, I still remember how big the cockpit of a Cessna 152 fell when my instructor jumped out and said “now you solo” 😳. Flying did change my life as well; I met my wife, have two amazing children and now I fly big fancy jets that I didn’t know existed when I started out. I am a private pilot just started transition training in my Beechcraft debonair. I love the speed and that I don’t have to schedule the plane to fly it. Great video brought back memories. After I get used to my plane I am planning on getting my instrument rating.
I'm a few hours away from my check ride, I already have a plane that I fly occasionaly with my instructor. The weather is pretty crappy here in Canada, so the suspense is killing me! Thanks for the inspiration, hopefully more people will get on board!
I really enjoyed watching this! It brought back a lot of memories from my early days of flying and from the challenges which life provides to us. I started flying gliders in 1992, then transitioned to powered gliders, powered aircraft, microlights and even got my skydiving license. I had a break from flying between 2007 and 2014 for different reasons. Then in 2014 I walked into my old flight school, like you did, and follow the exact same Cessna I flew 17 years before. After that I bought a Cherokee, met my wonderful wife and last year our daughter had her first flight when she was three weeks old. Sharing aviation with others, especially family, is a wonderful experience. During summer we do trips to different places once or twice each month and it is always great fun. Thanks for sharing this video with us!

Just finished and got my PPl a little under a month ago. As a new pilot I can’t stop saying how amazed I am about flying. Working towards IFR rating but I never thought I would be able to be a pilot with my fear of heights but everything else was so worth it I had to get over it. All the points in your video or spot on. Oh wow, what a high quality video and love the way your family is involved. My road to aviation is similar...had to wait to take care of all life's responsibilities...and now is my time...almost 200hrs and loving each minute.
Got PPL in high school (1974). While in HS (they had own flight school and 4 PA-28-140, and a Cessna 310). Passed Instrument written and was ready for instrument check ride. Decided to take multi-engine and instrument check ride together (stupid idea in retrospect). On ILS approach at minimums, CR pulled an engine at minimums, and declared that I should go around. I said "no, field in sight, plane configured for landing, and stable. A Cessna 310 flies like a feathered brick on a hot day." He failed me. I flew a little bit after that, but money, college, family and life got in the way. Looking to possibly fly again as I approach retirement.
Do NOT, i repeat, do NOT let this be your defining moment in aviation. You are ready to write the next chapter in your life. Do not "look to possibly fly again". Book your lesson now. I repeat, book your lesson now! :)
i don’t get how a simulated failed engine would call for a go-around. How can you go around missing an engine? in real life wouldn’t you just land it after declaring an emergency? maybe i misunderstood
@@Mr_Bones. The premise was that since I had an engine out, I need to declare missed approach and go around. The idea being I would need time to sort things out. My response was that the runway was in sight; I had gear down/locked; it was a very hot summer day. Remember, ILS minimums are 200 feet and 1/4-mile visibility. The CFI said the rule book said to declare missed approach and go around. However, there is always pilot discretion. He failed me on the spot after I continued to land. Being a young kid, I didn't fight it. Oh well that was 48 years ago. I know better now.
@@scottmackenzie3761 I still don't get it. You successfully landed the airplane and not a soul was hurt or killed and the airplane was perfectly fine. You have a simulated engine failure with the runway in sight and everything is in the green for a successful landing, why would you want to try climb out on one engine and stay in the air and take the chance of making a bad situation even worse? Going around to sort things out is just plain stupid when you could just land and sort things out. If it was up to me that was a great call as you did the right thing and you should have passed with flying colors on that one decision alone, but we have come a long way in aviation safety since then over the years. That situation is water under the bridge now.
So, do you not fly recreationally? Did you give it up, I mean having a ppl is still something that you can take advantage of, and its so fun! I cant imagine giving up flying for 48 years and all I have is a ppl
I was needing this. Been feeling demotivated when I'm so close. My PPL checkride should have happened late November and due to schedule, weather and other stuff it still hans't happened. Caught myself thinking maybe there's just too much going on and I should just wait. But videos like yours motivates me to finish it and start my own flying adventures! thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh man I feel identified with you. I have the same experience. Started my first fly around 20 years ago including the solo and cross country. But I still deciding when to finish my school and see finally my license. Personal situations put me out of this career for long time. Almost in my 50’s and still regret why I didn’t complete this part of my life. Thanks so much for sharing this experience.
I totally agree. Aviation is the ultimate symbiosis between nature and technology, which makes it so interesting. During flight training, I discovered that you can learn so much, even things about yourself, that I think everyone should at least have the possibility to try some of it. Unfortunately, flight training is quite expensive here in Europe 😔

Hay man, I just wanted to say that I stumbled across the video and it SHOCKED me how similar of a position I'm in right now. I am a cam op/DIT/Colorist and have recently been looking at aviation. Surprised me to see someone else with a similar path and honestly has really motivated me and given me confidence that this isn't a crazy idea after all. I’ve got almost the same journey as you, but still no license yet. I’ve got obsessed with flying dice I was a kid, and now I’m working hard to afford flying license, meanwhile flying everything I can. Just yesterday I’ve got a great FAA certified Beech B58 sim training hours, with turbulence, crosswinds, wind shear and fog 😁

Very nice video and sums it up grand. I learned right out of college before marriage. When I did get married I did have my wife take lessons at least through solo so she would have the confidence to fly the plane if something happened to me. And she did. She did not get her license but years later I bought a plane and we had fun flying to see kids and grandkids.

One of the planes she trained in, an Aeronca Champ, is still flying in Ontario. I take her flying with me any chance I get, and she loves the flying stories. She will be 90 next year. She's my inspiration.

I related with this 100%. Solo’d when I was 15, PPL at 17. Then stopped flying because of school, career, wife, kids, mortgage etc. 15 years later I became recurrent again and can’t wait to buy my own plane one day.

Just looked through my logbook, and I have four flights logged in N19688 from when I started at Vista back in 2000. Very similar (and I'm finding common) story here, as I didn't end up getting my certificate until 2012.

Several youtubers, including your channel helped me make the decision to do my Discovery flight. I was completely surprised how claming yet stressful it was. I'll likely move forward with the entire process next year as much as I'd like to do it this year but aviation is forever =)

Great story! Old aviator here, king KX -170 isn’t a coffee grinder. Coffee grinder radios you had to pull out a knob called BFO which stands for best frequency oscillator, there would be a tone and you turned a crank on the face of the radio until the tone peaked out , then punch the knob back in and it was tuned. They were old and outdated when I started flying but lots of airplanes kept them as a backup. The FCC changed the rules and they split the frequencies and the old radios would bleed over to adjacent frequencies so they became illegal to repair.

I soloed in 688 in1992.
Although I didn’t finish my ticket, (kids were 3 and 5 years old), my oldest surprised me with a flight in July 2020, at Vista, which is when I found out he was taking lessons and ended up receiving his ticket in June 2020.
I’m right there with you… started flying in ‘91, didn’t go far. 2000s came around, and I wanted to start again, but got married, two kids and got distracted again. I’m doing it now… I’ve solo’ed and am practicing for my practical and starting to study for the written while also stating to shop for my first airplane. Hoping to get it all done in time for the summer… and maybe, someday, I’ll get the family to come along with me. You and the channels you mentioned have been a part of my journey back to aviation.

A very familiar story! I got my PPL in 1977 and flew on and off for several years. I bought a 172M in 2017 and finally got an instrument rating and am working on commercial now! It can be a lifelong process!

Super impressed what you’ve been able to do since 2014. Life happened to me in ‘98. I started back up last year and will solo this month. So feel this one. Passed my written last night, just have some instrument and a few more night landings before I start checkride prep. But I was similar in that I put the dream on hold for a long time while the kids grew up and went back to it last year. So very glad I did, I'm having the time of my life flying.
Hey Eric, really appreciate this video today. I'm almost done with my PPL, but sometimes motivation can wane. Recently I read comments from a pilot who was complaining about no one ever wanting to fly with him so he's always solo, and to come on and see the trips and adventures you've had with your family has reminded me why I'm putting in all this work in the first place. I was definitely not expecting this kind of video when I clicked on it, but I’m glad I did. Watched all the way through because of the content and my love for video editing in general. This video was beautiful. I’m on the verge of taking the step to get my license because it was something I’ve always wanted to do. Still undecided though.

I took 15 years off for family and career, just like you. I restarted flying last October and have flown 20 hours since. The weather is improving here and I'll be starting instrument training in about 2 weeks. I wish I never stopped but life got in the way.
Soooooo true! I finished my requirements but life (wife, daughter, work, buying a home) has postponed my check ride twice. Its a difference when you're a family man with a career than a young single person beginning their training. Thanks for sharing and giving me inspiration to finish the job.
This really resonates with me. I got part way through my PPL many years ago. Family & career took over and it got shelved. Now in my fifties, I walked into my local flying club a year ago and said word for word exactly the same thing as you. Because it had been so long I elected to start from scratch, and am now 50 hours in to my PPL training, with the end in sight. Same mixture of nervousness, excitement & exhilaration. Man, I had the exact same story! Started primary in 2003, then life got in the way, flight bag sitting in storage getting dusty. Then one day it hit... it's time to fly! Didn't get to use the same plane but looking in the log book everything was ready, but decided to re-do all the XC just to be safe. Now here I am with my PPL thinking about the next place to fly to!

What a terrifically motivating video. I will reach the end of a 44 year career as a pilot this fall. While I am more than ready to say goodbye to flying a big fancy jet on somebody else’s nickel (and schedule), the thought of giving it up completely is creating some anxiety. I’ll be moving from New Jersey and will be selling off my quarter share in a 75 PA-28-235, I am hoping to keep going in my new life. You have validated that desire with this video and I want to thank you. The dream is still alive.

I can't help but feel like I want to get back in the cockpit.
My wife got me a discovery flight back in 2003 and the first thing that the instructor asked was if I wanted to just do the flight, or if I was serious about getting my license. I opted to start on ground school that day with them and twice a week I flew, and I absolutely loved it. I got my medical, then progressed through all the steps.... first solo... solo cross country.... solo mountain trips.... It was awesome. I did a crash course weekend ground school, and passed my FAA with a 92. Now, to get my checkride. and.....that's when life happens. I had started a new business in 2001 and we built a new house, were trying (unsuccessfully for many years) for a family, and just short of 100 hours of flight time, and needing to just take my checkride, my bag sat on the shelf. Then, the economy turned sour, and we had two kids... and now, almost 20 years later, my Lightspeed headset and the David Clark I got my wife is sitting in my bag with stacks of maps and books.
Now, this gives me that hunger to get back in there...... and to start flying again. Unfortunately, with a 12 and 9 year old, activities are crazy, money is tight and moving is on the short list this year. Maybe not this year.... maybe next year, but I WILL have my license before I'm 50......
For now, I'll live vicariously through you, Jason, and others out there. But, thank you for such a heartfelt story, and hearing something that echoes my path so very much -- minus the gorgeous Cherokee Six you have! Keep making awesome videos, and do what you do. We all thank you for it.
This is my story!!! Have 39 hrs and stopped for life, now 11years later I started ground school last week and go on my first flight lesson again next Saturday. I had some tears in my eyes watching this. My wife is also the same as your wife and now she is starting to get excited for me to finish. I got a backseatflight at my flight school. Now im saving up to actually try to get my ppl.
I remember doing some flights in n7744s with Vista Air In order to be prepared for California Baptist University flight school and it helped me out a strong foundation for private pilot. It was really great as I am working on my Dispatch rating and earning a degree in Aviation management.

I am now in my early 40s, working on my PPL. Its been a blast! Also quite a bit of self-growth as well. It is challenging yet has been the best stress reliever I've found. Bad day at work? Swing by the airfield, grab a plane and go for a sunset cruise. Land with a giant s--- eating grin on my face. Also awesome: cell phones don't work above 2000' AGL. Priceless.

What a great video!! Put a smile on my face reminiscing on my own experience. After 23 years, I still remember how big the cockpit of a Cessna 152 fell when my instructor jumped out and said “now you solo” 😳. Flying did change my life as well; I met my wife, have two amazing children and now I fly big fancy jets that I didn’t know existed when I started out. And now, starting a new chapter after closing on my first airplane!! Blue skies!

I am a private pilot just started transition training in my Beechcraft debonair. I love the speed and that I don’t have to schedule the plane to fly it. Great video brought back memories. After I get used to my plane I am planning on getting my instrument rating.

I'm a few hours away from my check ride, I already have a plane that I fly occasionaly with my instructor. The weather is pretty crappy here in Canada, so the suspense is killing me! Thanks for the inspiration, hopefully more people will get on board!
I really enjoyed watching this! It brought back a lot of memories from my early days of flying and from the challenges which life provides to us. I started flying gliders in 1992, then transitioned to powered gliders, powered aircraft, microlights and even got my skydiving license. I had a break from flying between 2007 and 2014 for different reasons. Then in 2014 I walked into my old flight school, like you did, and follow the exact same Cessna I flew 17 years before. After that I bought a Cherokee, met my wonderful wife and last year our daughter had her first flight when she was three weeks old. Sharing aviation with others, especially family, is a wonderful experience. During summer we do trips to different places once or twice each month and it is always great fun. Thanks for sharing this video with us!

Just finished and got my PPl a little under a month ago. As a new pilot I can’t stop saying how amazed I am about flying. Working towards IFR rating but I never thought I would be able to be a pilot with my fear of heights but everything else was so worth it I had to get over it. All the points in your video or spot on. Oh wow, what a high quality video and love the way your family is involved. My road to aviation is similar...had to wait to take care of all life's responsibilities...and now is my time...almost 200hrs and loving each minute.
Got PPL in high school (1974). While in HS (they had own flight school and 4 PA-28-140, and a Cessna 310). Passed Instrument written and was ready for instrument check ride. Decided to take multi-engine and instrument check ride together (stupid idea in retrospect). On ILS approach at minimums, CR pulled an engine at minimums, and declared that I should go around. I said "no, field in sight, plane configured for landing, and stable. A Cessna 310 flies like a feathered brick on a hot day." He failed me. I flew a little bit after that, but money, college, family and life got in the way. Looking to possibly fly again as I approach retirement.
Do NOT, i repeat, do NOT let this be your defining moment in aviation. You are ready to write the next chapter in your life. Do not "look to possibly fly again". Book your lesson now. I repeat, book your lesson now! :)
i don’t get how a simulated failed engine would call for a go-around. How can you go around missing an engine? in real life wouldn’t you just land it after declaring an emergency?

@@Mr_Bones. The premise was that since I had an engine out, I need to declare missed approach and go around. The idea being I would need time to sort things out. My response was that the runway was in sight; I had gear down/locked; it was a very hot summer day. Remember, ILS minimums are 200 feet and 1/4-mile visibility. The CFI said the rule book said to declare missed approach and go around. However, there is always pilot discretion. He failed me on the spot after I continued to land. Being a young kid, I didn't fight it. Oh well that was 48 years ago. I know better now.
@@scottmackenzie3761 I still don't get it. You successfully landed the airplane and not a soul was hurt or killed and the airplane was perfectly fine. You have a simulated engine failure with the runway in sight and everything is in the green for a successful landing, why would you want to try climb out on one engine and stay in the air and take the chance of making a bad situation even worse? Going around to sort things out is just plain stupid when you could just land and sort things out. If it was up to me that was a great call as you did the right thing and you should have passed with flying colors on that one decision alone, but we have come a long way in aviation safety since then over the years. That situation is water under the bridge now.
So, do you not fly recreationally? Did you give it up, I mean having a ppl is still something that you can take advantage of, and its so fun! I cant imagine giving up flying for 48 years and all I have is a ppl
I was needing this. Been feeling demotivated when I'm so close. My PPL checkride should have happened late November and due to schedule, weather and other stuff it still hans't happened. Caught myself thinking maybe there's just too much going on and I should just wait. But videos like yours motivates me to finish it and start my own flying adventures! thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh man I feel identified with you. I have the same experience. Started my first fly around 20 years ago including the solo and cross country. But I still deciding when to finish my school and see finally my license. Personal situations put me out of this career for long time. Almost in my 50’s and still regret why I didn’t complete this part of my life. Thanks so much for sharing this experience.

I totally agree. Aviation is the ultimate symbiosis between nature and technology, which makes it so interesting. During flight training, I discovered that you can learn so much, even things about yourself, that I think everyone should at least have the possibility to try some of it.
Unfortunately, flight training is quite expensive here in Europe 😔

I’ve got almost the same journey as you, but still no license yet. I’ve got obsessed with flying dice I was a kid, and now I’m working hard to afford flying license, meanwhile flying everything I can. Just yesterday I’ve got a great FAA certified Beech B58 sim training hours, with turbulence, crosswinds, wind shear and fog 😁

Very nice video and sums it up grand. I learned right out of college before marriage. When I did get married I did have my wife take lessons at least through solo so she would have the confidence to fly the plane if something happened to me. And she did. She did not get her license but years later I bought a plane and we had fun flying to see kids and grandkids.
