I've watched a lot of your videos and you are putting out great information. The only thing that I would like is maybe list the tools your use if possible. Thank you again.
I have two tall columns in the front of my house almost like they were used for a pergola I’m thinking of cutting them to waist high and doing caps like this. My idea was to make a 1/2 perimeter channel underneath to add LED light strip.
I just made a 2'x5' column cap for my entrance columns. I used commercial grade Quickcrete Mason mix type S and let it set in the form for one week. the last 8" inches broke in half when I tipped the form over to remove the cap. I'm guessing I used the wrong kind of concrete, any suggestions?
Ah yes, so mason mix is sand and type S cement. What you’re looking for is quikrete concrete mix. It’s a yellow bag. Or you could use a high strength concrete mix as well! It should have an aggregate with small round pebbles and sand and cement inside
Would you know how to find pre-cast caps w/ 4×6-4×4 post cut outs for craftsman tapered columns? Columns are split face 8×8×16 25" square. Yours look 👍 Thanks from OKLAHOMA. Skip
Hey uhh not exactly, but you can certainly either drill and epoxy anchor in something like that, or form around a 4x4 post. Not exactly sure what you are intending
Hello, What type of concrete are you using. Most of the Quikrete stuff has to much aggregate and the rocks will show on the edges. What do you recommend? Thanks!
Hey I’ve done a lot of mixing of concrete with navvy jack and cement, so basically the raw materials that make up the quick Crete bags. Adding more sand vs aggregate etc. But the pre mixed bags are fine too, the only thing you need to do it really tap or vibrate the edges so that the fines make there way to the surface for a nice smooth finish
@@HardscapeCanada The thing is upside down so you'd be getting the fines to the bottom side of the cap. How do you do that for the top side of the cap when it's upside down?

That is beautiful! Thank you for making this video. I’m wanting to put a cap on my brick piers around my pool. I think I can do this!
Heck yes you can!
That is beautiful work. I have 4 columns that need caps so looking forward to make some soon.
What I like to know is how you determined the 4 angles pieces size ?
I really appreciate you . Thank you for sharing if I could show you a picture of what I done.
Thank you!
Cool! Very informative! Can I make the same type form with a bullnose?
George Labrado yes absolutely! It would just add another step to the form building

@@HardscapeCanada Thank you very much. Today I also ordered 3/4 inch fiber to add to it for strength. For some reason my local stores don't carry it.
Should have had holes for setting pins and a drip groove.

Hey thanks! Unfortunately no, everyone around here custom makes their own to suit or uses natural stone etc.
Kevin have you ever made caps that support a 4 x 4 post for a customers string lights?

by any chance do you have a 31"x31" mold for sale. please let me know by reply
Hey unfortunately no!
No matter what I did I could not get my forms to fit together like that
What is type 10 cement paste?
I can't find it
It’s just type 10 (Portland or type GU) cement mixed with water.
@@HardscapeCanada thank you

Please leave a comment and let me know what you think! Any questions??
Excellent work! What do you mean by “cement paste” when your are patching the voids.
How much cement would I need to make two 40”x40” caps 4 inches thick?
You should have included how to calculate the angles of the triangles. It's not trivial
