  • Smolik Performance reed stuffers!
    Instructional and informational how to install a reed stuffer on your Dio, G2 or Gt80/90 reed.
    Improves throttle response and low-end performance.
    This reed stuffer is placed in the reed cage to take up the dead volume. This extra volume causes low-pressure zones attributed to low end bog. By filling this extra space you reduce turbulence and increase the vacuum pull inside the intake tract.

    I should have bought these for my dio Reed when I built it . This thing is a monster now! But just a side note the Reed cage side needed dremel work to fit. I followed your instructions to a T and broke the Reed cage tightening the screws. The only replacement I could find is a 4 petal from treatland .

    Howdy Ethan, My dumbass cracked my Dio block by trying to hold it in while tightening those three little screws, the
    "Stuffer" kept trying to inch it's way out as I tightened, So I got them as flush as I could which obviously wasn't enough even with a second gasket between the f~911 intake & the stuffer/housing, So as I stagger tightened very slow and easy being careful to go on evenly and flush, right as I got to where I am to snug em all down for the final snug, I
    hear a CRACK💥!!!
    UGH 😩 So I now get an old block I had from an extra Dio reed valve I had and attempted it all over again, This time really trying to be careful, the angle of the stuffer kept wanting to scoot out as I tightened them three little screws again, so I took a fine file and took the stuffer down a bit and apparently wasn't enough because
    "oops I did it again"
    I felt like a complete schmuck! I guess the initial indentation from the 3screws before it was flush that I tightened too much kept making the stuffers wanting to seat back into those indents.
    So I ordered another block from treatland and am going to attempt this again, This time I would like to prove to myself that
    I am infact "Teachable"
    And not a complete idiot.
    I do appreciate all you do for this sport/hobby and I realized this has been no fault of your design it's just something I'm doing wrong, I know you're a busy man & if you happen to read this before I get my new block this Friday
    3/18/22 in a couple days
    If you will please point this old man in the right direction, I apologize for the lengthy explanation, I hope it's not too confusing. Thank You and you guys are doing some amazing work, keep it up👋🙏👍🏁✌️

    So what if i had one of these reeds with the stuffers installed but no stuffers in the inlet to match flow throughout ? Would it run worse then having no stuffer in either the reeds or intake ? or would it still help even with one installed in the reeds but not in the intake? Plz help just learned about this so any extra info would be appreciated for my build

    I'm a newbie and not sure what the benefits are by running reeds I think it's like a check valve for the fuel mixture so it doesn't blow back out the carb ???? But I watch videos and still see that happening. I'm sorry guys I'm building a show bike with a big saw motor or another performance engine I'm 55 years young lol still a kid at heart though. I ride dirt bikes and had two Harley's in my life but want to try this hobby but I need to know what is good for 45 Cruse and maybe 50 plus for fun. I'm only 5,8 175lbs so I'm not sure if this is possible for a daily ride? Thanks for your time and help bud I'm also looking at your engines to run?

    Would you sell the stage 6 smaller stuffer ? Or could you copy it for me I bought a stage 6 dio kit from dyno scooter the only place that has them left in stock and sadly it did not come with them . Not sure when the original kit dropped the stuffers. I got the swap shop dio intake plate adapter for my af05e so I can run the dio reeds since I have a big bore kit I think it would be very beneficial since I do not have a big stroker af16 or anything crazy

  • @tonykartracer8032
    @tonykartracer8032 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't get it. Isn't the advantage of having a reed setup apart from stopping blow-back, is to have a larger volume intake? Wouldn't it be taking a step backwards if you restricted that opening by stuffing it?

    • @smolikperformance3867
      @smolikperformance3867  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not necessarily. Adding intake volume is not always beneficial. In our case, the added volume is way too much for our engines. The stuffers themselves aren't restricting anything. The entrance diameter is equal or larger than the largest carb that will fit on the reed block.

      This doesn't make any logical sense sorry. But they put these in snowmobiles years ago like in the 70s sleds to burn less fuel during the fuel embargo we all took them out and then properly jetted the carburetor to make power not put them in. In fact a friend of mine and myself put one back in wanting to see what it did after this carburetor was jetted properly and all it seemed to do was cause a lean condition on the lower end and a lean condition on the top end which would make the engine run faster and sound to have power but it was just because it was running lean and running high RPMs it didn't make more power it did however shorten the life of these old snowmobile engines by a lot because of the lien State these engines would actually often heat sease on a long-term idle. and I don't think turbulence is a factor here turbulent is what you want to keep fuel in suspension kind of the same theory behind crank stuffers or polished oversized intake ports and transfers. Some of the chainsaw manufacturers use crank stuffers and then the power saw builders take them out to make real horsepower. Not knocking your product man it just doesn't seem to add up though Gorski snowmobiles did it in the 70s and everyone took them out to make more power but maybe if you're running way too big of a carburetor and too fat of a jet adding this would correct that scenario by taking fuel out of suspension and forcing it quickly through the transfers and out the exhaust into an expansion chamber I suppose. If you ran a short vacuum header pipe you would be able to see the fuel ignite in the pipe that little explosion would then cause an implosion you might be able to pick that up on a dyno but that would be a fault speak reading. I would be curious to see this on a Dyno without an long expansion chamber on the engine so we could actually see horsepower gain without the false reverb from the exhaust pipe. LOL but I have this feeling that this is where you tell me you need long properly tuned expansion chamber to make horsepower on a 2-stroke which we know is totally false until you get up around 150cc's that is where the residence of that explosion in the cylinder actually becomes enough that you truly need an expansion chamber in order to evacuate the cylinder properly. Anything below that you're just doing it for cool points and to make it a little quieter. Keep up the good work so I'd like to see more on this it's a good video these little poorly designed engines need all the help they can get.

    • @kjsmolik
      @kjsmolik 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnsonlong1272 you apparently don't understand how these work and why the DIO reed needs them. You can't compare cheap china engine e to old 70's snowmobiles. Also these are still used now days and are made by several companies. Has nothing to do woth the lack of a tuned carb.

    • @johnsonlong1272
      @johnsonlong1272 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kjsmolik you're right I don't understand why someone would use them. But maybe I will have to try one I guarantee you can make a more desirable engine without it. Port stuffing and crank stuffing is very undesirable as far as performance goes. It would be about as Ludacris as dimpling an intake. But a lot of people even manufacturing companies make a lot of money from scams like that. And you're absolutely right it would make a huge negative performance difference in a little china doll versus a big better manufactured engine. You have to remember no matter how big the crankcase volume is the engine pulls the air into the combustion chamber it does not compress it in there anybody that believes that doesn't understand how I could stroke works. if it compressed into the combustion chamber than there would be no need for a expansion chamber and proper Port timing. Yes the Piston traveling down does helped push the last of the atomized fuel up past the piston threw the transfers but that action is minut or they would stuff the bottom of the piston.
