+Carlos Guzman its a joke because the 27th batter was actually out but they called him safe so a 28th batter came to the plate and got out so people say he got 28 outs
I trully believe that being a latino pitcher (from Venezuela) had something to do with that call. Since that day I always had the feeling that if the pitcher was from the United States that call would have been safe, or the commissioner would have overturned it and awarded the feat to Armando later on.
I think the most amazing part of this whole thing is how Galarraga handled it, first he smiled at the ump, and when the ump apologized to him, he accepted the apology and said "no one's perfect".
Greatest game of Galarraga's life and one of the greatest masterpieces in baseball history. If Joyce had made the correct call, only 83 pitches would've been thrown. No perfect game has seen so few pitches since 1908. He only had 3 strikeouts but just mowed down one hitter after another.
Because MLB is the only truly perfect thing about baseball (sarcasm) they can't own a mistake. Just like they won't own that MLB & Owners all knew about PED usage in 80s>90s>00s and now they just black ball all the stars that made them billion$ for 30 years... And don't get me started on Pete Rose lol
@@hhscadets0925 I don't think so because this is the only situation in history where there's no "what if" after. With other bad calls you usually can't prove what would have happened. Maybe the Royals could have still won in 1985 even without the Denkinger call. But Galarraga pitched a perfect game, he DID it. I normally agree with you but because it doesn't affect the outcome of a game and it was literally the final out needed I think it is very easy to change that. If you're worried about stats and stuff I mean, is anyone really going to care whether Jason Donald has 141 or 142 career hits?
My favorite part: the guy running the scoreboard decal in the upper left of the screen simply gave up on the baserunner after that. The runner successfully stole second and then third, but it was never changed (because honestly, who gives a damn after that missed call).
10 years later and this still never got changed. Shame on Selig for not reversing this call right after the game, there was no reason for this to have to resurface after a decade. Make this the 24th perfect game as it should've been.
4:05 This might have been a homerun in other fields, had to be around 400'! Jackson had an absolutely perfect route to make that one; watching that never gets old!
Something that isn't talked about enough about this whole situation. The sheer wisdom of Jim Leyland. He handled the situation like a little moustached Yoda. Yelled at Joyce to prevent mayhem from ensuing the night of the missed call, the very next day, makes a gesture that the entire nation is talking about as the pinnacle of sportsmanship (having Galarraga hand Joyce the lineup card). Some people grow older, some people grow wiser.
I remember this sad to see the ump f up but he and Gallaraga were really classy about it Gallaraga didn't whine or throw a temper tantrum because the ump f up
batmancool33 but everyone in the mlb saw it even the president but they didnt change it thats the retarded thing about that, when he was pitching again jim joyce was the ump and he started crying
If you're not a baseball fan and watching this, it's hard to explain the significance of what the pitcher did. A perfect game changes a pitchers life financially, professionally and in many more ways and makes him remembered for all time in baseball.
This wasnt just AGs perfect game. This was.the best defensive performance in baseball history. The line drives the hard hit balls in the infield. All sucked up. AJ was.huge. this is why the entire team was mad at jim joyce. Because bigger than a pitcher was taken from the players. It was a true team effort.
I don't get why MLB insists on calling a perfect performance "near perfect." Not only should Gallarraga get credit for a perfect game, he should be acknowledged as the only pitcher who had to record 28 outs to get his.
Don't worry too much people. It's because of this that I remember Armando Galarraga's name and that he pitched a 28 out perfect game. If it wasn't for the bad call, no one really would have remembered his name. Heck I can only remember a few players that have a perfect game but I'll remember Armando forever.
Joyce's call was horrific, but Miguel Cabrerra is just as much to blame. It was the second baseman's ball. Had Cabrerra let him field it, the play isn't even close.
You truly know nothing about baseball. Causing weak contact IS good pitching... Notice none of the players were hitting the ball square or making great contact.
Yea I admit idk much about it,was too much into other shit when I was younger.i know the basics.i just feel like more strikeouts is more impressive than seeing ball wacked around so much.i see what you mean tho
First and only pitcher to ever retire 28 straight in a 9 inning game
Lol yep
+Nathan Crapo Still feel bad for him
How can he get 28 outs?
+Carlos Guzman its a joke because the 27th batter was actually out but they called him safe so a 28th batter came to the plate and got out so people say he got 28 outs
what a fucking dumbass ump
He's not almost perfect. He's beyond perfect... He truly did pitch a 28 out perfect game.
I trully believe that being a latino pitcher (from Venezuela) had something to do with that call. Since that day I always had the feeling that if the pitcher was from the United States that call would have been safe, or the commissioner would have overturned it and awarded the feat to Armando later on.
@@fernandorodriguezdelvillar1435 It was just a choke job by the ump...
Nope, ain't no such thing. A man got on base, perfect game blown. Galarraga is just another Detroit nobody.
Truly huh
@@YourGirlYang Lmaooo you’re life must be miserable
The worst call in MLB history, everyone knows this was a perfect game.
SuperPsychoDave7621 really bad call but not worst ever.
exactly what i was thinking too.
+SuperPsychoDave7621 The Braves-Cardinals infield fly call wasn't far behind
+SuperPsychoDave7621 no, remember that braves-pirates one back in 2011?? That one was worst
TreyP really a chance at history ruined?
This was heartbreaking
Amen how did he take it smooth if I was the pitcher I would of fought the guy
Conner Jones Armando was very professional about it. Said nothing bad about the call or Jim Joyce, very unfortunate that his career didn't work out
Most famous perfect game in history. This will forever impact baseball this man Galarraga is my ideal
I think the most amazing part of this whole thing is how Galarraga handled it, first he smiled at the ump, and when the ump apologized to him, he accepted the apology and said "no one's perfect".
Dude should have been athlete of the year the way he handled it
@@thegamegifter01I think everyone in that park was more disappointed than he was, Armando seemed happy to get the W
28 out perfect game
27*
Oh wait I get what you mean now. Never mind my other comment
oh i get it lolll
This was the saddest moment in MLB history and there is no close second

I don't get why they can't retroactively change this. I just don't
Helluva point!
Because MLB is the only truly perfect thing about baseball (sarcasm) they can't own a mistake. I don't care what anyone says, this is the greatest game ever pitched; a true 28 out perfect game, and it should be recognized as such.
That Austin Jackson catch though.....
That game has to be officially “Perfect”
MLB won't recognize the perfect game but they recognize the Astros as champions.. weird
UGH. I know. 😡 I'm an Indians Fan and I felt bad for Gallaraga.
not weird, MLB loves cheating. remember the steroid era? they loved it.
Even Donald knew it was a bad call! Look at him after he's called safe he put his hands on his head like "did he really just call me safe?"
Galarraga has class that I do not have
My favorite part: the guy running the scoreboard decal in the upper left of the screen simply gave up on the baserunner after that. The runner successfully stole second and then third, but it was never changed (because honestly, who gives a damn after that missed call).
Galarraga perfect, retires 28 straight.
Fixed the title for you
Nice

If only they had implemented instant replay by then.
This was the play that convinced them to implement it so that is something I guess
they've always had "instant replay>" it's called TV. this should have been corrected by the following morning.
I feel bad for Galarraga, but also for the Tigers Defensive core. I mean they played a flawless game and backed up Galarraga all the way.
I wonder what would of happened if miggy covered first and Carlos guillen would have gotten the grounder
Likely not as close of a play. Less likely Joyce would blow the call.

nothing wise about it. it was the wrong thing to do.
Man what happened to this guy? almost a perfect game and gone with the wind.
Title was wrong..........
Galarraga WAS perfect.
In fact, he was BETTER than perfect !!!
Galarraga retired "28" STRAIGHT !!
Thank you, very much !!!
I remember watching this live! and then it felt so bad when the ump had the missed called. it sucked. I was cheering for Armando.
Kudos to all the gentlemen who came to terms with a difficult situation. We are all better for noting their actions.
wow he got robbed
I remember this, lol Jim Joyce
You guys should upload the video where Richie Sexon hits the flagpole on tals hill in Houston
best one hitter in the history of baseball
El primer juego perfecto de un venezolano! Lastima que no es oficial
Ok
I've had season tickets for 5 years going to games with my dad and this still pisses me off.
I remember this sad to see the ump f up but he and Gallaraga were really classy about it Gallaraga didn't whine or throw a temper tantrum because the ump f up
so nice of you to feel bad for the ump. classy.
First 28 out perfect game
I remember watching this game or the highlights of the game back when it happened. I felt so bad for him he deserved it and got robbed.
Even sadder was that he was out easily. It's like Jim Joyce threw the game.
please tell me this ump got some sort of consequence
He made a bad call. He even admitted it, and he was absolutely devastated. He's a human, he makes mistakes.
Sports Man Goronsky yea but in a game the ump has tp be perfect but you are right he is human and humans do mistakes
The pitcher and the ump teamed up to make a successful book about this game. Mo money
batmancool33 but everyone in the mlb saw it even the president but they didnt change it thats the retarded thing about that, when he was pitching again jim joyce was the ump and he started crying
He got death threats
11 years ago today. Pain.
If this were to happen to the White Sox, what would Hawk's reaction be like?
3 strike outs through 8 innings good job defense
The Jackson catch, imo, would be remembered very similarly to the Wise catch if Joyce made the right call
it was Willie Maysian, dude!
If you're not a baseball fan and watching this, it's hard to explain the significance of what the pitcher did. A perfect game changes a pitchers life financially, professionally and in many more ways and makes him remembered for all time in baseball.
it was the biggest robbery in the history of baseball. a very corrupt game.
Galarraga was perfect for one game. The umpires are expected to be perfect every game. That's pretty much impossible.
it was the most important call of this loser's like and he was off by >3 feet. he should have retired right then and there.
10 year anniversary of this today and it STILL makes me sick to my stomach that he was robbed....
He retired 28 straight... a bad call is a bad call but when there is literally video evidence on a obvious out, it’s pretty indisputable.
You mean retires 28 straight
How has the MLB not overturned this?
because they don't care about justice. they're bragging about it, in fact.
This wasnt just AGs perfect game. This was.the best defensive performance in baseball history. The line drives the hard hit balls in the infield. All sucked up. Title should be called “retires 28 straight”
The umpire thought he was really officiating a Detroit Lions game.
I'm an Indians Fan and I felt bad for Gallaraga. What a way to get robbed
I am no tigers fan but this hurt to watch.
6:55 Jim Joyce admitted right after the game that he got the call wrong. #MLB should make this a perfect game in the books
HE WAS OUT

I don't get why MLB insists on calling a perfect performance "near perfect." Not only should Gallarraga get credit for a perfect game, he should be acknowledged as the only pitcher who had to record 28 outs to get his.
You messed up the title. You meant to say "Perfect" not "near perfect".

Ashley Hansen you know what’s sad
When Armando dies mlb will probably finally reverse that call
who cares if you remember him or not? it's an injustice and it's wrong.
No. He retired 28 straight.
...And then born was the challenge.
MLB - “Let me post the fucks up we make.”
Fans- “Wait, What?”

He would have had a no hitter
Joyce's call was horrific, but Miguel Cabrerra is just as much to blame. It was the second baseman's ball. Had Cabrerra let him field it, the play isn't even close.
Oh my goodness, Jim Joyce nooo!

If you cant get someone out in 1 instead of 3 pitches thats much better pitching.
4:07 great fuckin catch that he might not have made if the circumstances were different. That would've been a historical play.
No ones gonna talk about Austin Jackson’s catch tho?
Worst call I've ever seen and they couldn't review in 2013
+Slothism This game is the reason why they added the review
To be fair, Jim Joyce had the guts to admit that he blew it.
And Bud Selig took the fall as being too stuffy to overturn the obvious blown call
This happened in 2010
2014 is when replay was instituted
i think a nolan ryan jersey would cheer up Armando galarraga
Dear MLB: change the title. It should say: Galarraga above perfect, retires 28 straight.
Tiger coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves after the final out.
MLB, if you can’t change this to a perfect game yet let the stros remain champs, i cannot take you serious.
Make this a perfect game.

No one calls this not a perfect game. The only name for this is the 28 out perfect game. Anything else is wrong
Why didn't they challenge it was 2015 when they posted this
Travis Smith The game was in 2010 before replay was implemented. Check the description
Officially recognize this as perfect already ffs!
In the books it says nearly but we fans knows he threw a perfect game
Mario and Rod with an amazing call. "An absolute travesty".
Why they didn't challenge that play?
Challenging plays wasn't made a thing until 2014 and this was in 2010
NO. He IS perfect
This page is trolling it should say extra perfect 28 up 28 down
Jim Joyce did a bad call on the 27th batter of the game. The correct call should be out at first base.
That was hard to watch
The second baseman would have gotten the ball to first quicker than Cabrera
title should be "retires 28 straight"
That's one of the better umpires in the league too, maybe even the best. Just made a terrible call that day.
no he wasn't, he missed an easy call by 3 feet. or he's evil. just look at his stupid, douchey mustache.
