Great video, thank you! I have the S5mk2 and am looking forward to LUMIX releasing LUMIX Lab for this camera as well. I also think a 3rd party manufacturer could make a cold-shoe mounted EVF with its own internal battery that connects to the HDMI port via a short cable. This would fix the viewfinder issue, and would be removable when not needed.
@@ribsy I can imagine a 90-degree connector going into the HDMI jack, and the cable just long enough to connect the EVF to the camera. Surely there’s gotta be a 3rd party manufacturer working on this … I hope!
Ahh I love the Canon LTM lenses!! I used to have the 35mm f2 but my top pick is the 50mm f1.4, probably my favourite portrait lens! Would be cool to try it out on the S9, if it had a hot-shoe i'd buy it in a heartbeat to use a little flash with it, shame it doesn't.
Great images. Your reasons for buying the S9 are similar to my thinking when I added a Sony 7c. It's a bit bigger but works with all of my legacy lenses. The characteristics of the old, manual focus glass are part of the fun.
I also got the S9 to use with my vintage manual lenses, but I’m still getting used to using the rear screen instead of a viewfinder. I think I’ll get better at it, but right now I’m missing having a viewfinder. Can’t complain about the final images though.
The punch in zoom focus assist on my Sigma FPL enlarges the image much more that what you are showing. Can you adjust the settings to enlarge it even further. Also can you customize a button to trigger it? There is a button on the back of my sigma, so that it’s easy to use. I only have to touch the screen to select where I want it to punch in. I think Full Frame is the way to go for photographers, because of how well it utilizes vintage lenses. I love how affordable the S9 is. I am very tempted to buy it as a second body because of its amazing IBIS. I bet you can make it zoom in more making manual focusing with the screen much easier. I shoot with the 7artisans 50mm f1.05 a lot and the focal depth is extremely shallow. Also on my TTartisans 90mm f1.25
You have some eye! Some gorgeous images and compositions there. Another step toward a process solution with the S9 might be to lean heavier into some kind of zone focusing method. It might not fit perfectly with the type of imagery you currently like to produce. But the upside is that you can remove those crucial awkward extra seconds of fiddling with settings and seeking perfect focus before each shot. And it works particularly well with the "no viewfinder" manual lens mode of interaction with your subjects. Keep taking inspiring shots... you make me want to go straight out and take more photos. ✌
it definately is an interesting camera, but way out of the pricerange i am willing to spend on a camera, maybe when they start hitting the second hand market that balance is different
The images are so dope… the fact a simple change of lens type can in essence feel like having different cameras like anamorphic, vlogging & Film Photography 😮. Bro just invest into an external view finder.
yea, honestly the lens is everything nowadays. most sensors are extremely capable and bring little additional value, so the lens is the way to differentiate
@@ribsy Although I know the next Full Frame is going to have great specs at a price of course. I with buy the S9 because of the handling size for personal carry.
So close to being perfect camera. Some combo of this and the nikon zf would be perfect. Bring in the weather sealing and viewfinder of the zf, but luts, ergonomics and video of the s9 and id never buy another digital camera. Its good as is but i cant bring myself to sell my other digital gear for it. Fujis give you that perfect package but in apsc.
Using vintage lenses on mirrorless cameras is such an expensive drug. I started with 1 in 2017... now? Maybe 100 to 200 old lenses and like fifty 50mm lenses give or take. Its such good fun! I prefer MF over AF these days.
Trying to think if my S5 does this or another camera I have, double touching the screen where you want to focus punches in for focussing when using MF glass?! Another thing I do is shoot jpeg plus raw in a b&w profile so the peaking colour is more obvious. Don’t even need to punch in all the time that way.
I only have put EF 28-80m film lens from my 500N on an EF digital camera such as my EOS 2000D and I like to shoot that way in B&W sometimes just using the screen to focus & zone focusing. Some people have asked me if they were film but when I tell them its digital they ask me what megapixel camera then when I tell them its 24.1 they are like what no way. In B&W the grain & darks are so confusing to people who take photos they instantly think its a low pixel camera or film. Its a great conversation starter. Love the show Ribsy. I will try get some of my Minolta MD lens onto a canon some day see how that looks. Come over to my channel some day if you have an hour to spare. Thanks man.
You would get an extremely cropped on image on m43 (compared to image circle of a full frame lens) Older full frame cameras will not have the video specs that I want
Great images! Will need to check out that lens. Have an S9 myself and love it. Btw have you tried simply using focus peaking without enlarging the screen? Maybe peaking alone is good enough?
@@ribsy Assign it to a quick menu option then for quick toggle. You can put it as an option under the "Q" button or you can enable the on screen tab menu and toggle it there.
Welcome to the S9 family !!! I haven't adapted any manual focus lenses on mine yet but, maybe one day. Until then, been shooting auto-focus on other glass...getting great results. Thanks for sharing ya vid man, SUBSCRIBED !
Hi Ribsy, concerning the viewfinder issue, have you thought of using a viewfinder loupe on your S9? This could make focusing a bit easier. MarcusPix reviewed a few: th-cam.com/video/ssEKoj-CdgQ/w-d-xo.html
I like the look of the camera, but way, way too many compromises. I might throw it through a wall to try and manually focus without a viewscreen. I hope it's a success just so they possibly make a version that's actually for photography.
both the images and videos coming outta that thing look stunning
ill take that as a compliment haha
Love my old lenses. Each has its own character. So much more fun. Good to see you still kicking it.
Enjoy 😄
yup! thanks for watching
You t shirt is Rude
That lens just looks sexy on the camera too, that's a fun added bonus haha. Dude 2:46 is such a banger holy shit, great work!!!!
Appreciate you man! Yea the lens is great looking

That idea sounds sick !
thats interesting regarding the viewfinder. curious if cables would feel too clunky

Nice images and review.
Am using an old 35mm Nikon RF lens similar to your Canon and enjoying zone focussing at f/8 on my Lumix.
Nice!

I gotta get the 50mm 1.4
this lens is a gem indeed. good work man!
Thanks 😊

Agreed. The end result is def worth it

Yea it’s def a great option for zone focusing. I just really wanted to shoot wide open to get the maximum character of the lens
it definately is an interesting camera, but way out of the pricerange i am willing to spend on a camera, maybe when they start hitting the second hand market that balance is different
yea i think its too pricey for what it does. but i still got it
@ribsy With its recent updates it's becoming more and more irresistible

I really wish this came had a ovf!! Nothing to complicated but one on the top left like a rangefinder! This could had been an alternative to a Leica 👏

I had the same idea for this camera. There’s no anti-flicker on the camera though?
You have shutter angle and can adjust as needed. There is anti flicker setting too

what adapter did you use for the lens to fit on the S9?
Got a cheap one off Amazon
😊 Im a couple of paychecks away from a GH7.

Any M43 or mirrorless can do this, as can older full frame cameras ...

when im shooting at f2 the regular peaking isn't enough for me
@@ribsy ah that makes sense. Would be nice if the peaking feature was updated a bit more to accommodate.
PLEASE TELL ME THIS MEANS MORE VIDEOS FROM RIBSY NOW
haha yes. more videos def coming
Great video!
Thanks ☺️
I just leave focus peeking on. That way you don't have to use the magnifier all the time.
its hard to see the full composition tho

Assign it to a quick menu option then for quick toggle. You can put it as an option under the "Q" button or you can enable the on screen tab menu and toggle it there.
Nice video and really interesting shots. A old Sony A7R would be much cheaper and lighter and has an EVF.
i don't like the looks of the a7r and the video is very outdated. but yes that combo would def work too

Preordered the S9 and have been enjoying it ever since it arrived. Lumix Lab really is a game changer in my opinion. I take this camera everywhere.
its df a really cool feature. i just think it could flow better
Very interesting
yup!
To each their own i guess. A cold shoe, no viewfinder, and a PASM dial? They could've taken $$ from fuji, could've been a xpro killer
agreed - they could have made a serious powerhouse. but its all good
Leica wouldn't have let them.
I like the look of the camera, but way, way too many compromises. I might throw it through a wall to try and manually focus without a viewscreen. I hope it's a success just so they possibly make a version that's actually for photography.
yea its not for everyone
Can't do it. Can't shoot digitally anymore I just can't do it. No matter what they design I can't do it especially b&w I can't do it
You can’t do it
