So so true about Budd! Man knew every note four bars before Miss Patti was going to hit it and led the band in that direction! Always loved seeing him stand up from the piano to lead the band while he kept playing with the other hand! He's truly missed.
Yes and he was very kind to her obsessed fans kindly hinting where you might see her or truthfully letting you know she had left the building! What a talent he was, energetically and musically getting Patti to the sing with the Angels 50 thousand feet above us. He kept that band tight and professional onstage. A gentleman who left us to soon sadly.....
Any "Greatest Singer" list where she isn't at least in the top 5 is a bad list. There have been some amazing vocalists in the past century...but it's a short list of people who could ever hold their own next to Patti Labelle.

In the 90s the technical acuity across the board in music took a hard reset (it was needed) but then the advent of digital recording didn't give the next generation of singers a chance to fail because you could "fix" things. The trailblazers before them not only had to basically nail it in the studio, but icons like the 3 I mentioned had to fight through a lot of adversity.

It brings a HUGE TEAR to my eye. Seeing Luther and Patti like this together. She loved him SO SO MUCH and vice versa. We truly lost an icon and vocal phenom when he passed. I know it affected Patti tremendously. Everyone knows or should know now that he was gay and he struggled with that big time. Patti knew and his closest friends of course. But that doesn't take away from the wonderful human being and artist he was. I love ya Luther miss you VERY MUCH. Being a singer myself you and Patti both have brought me A LOT of inspiration to the gift of voice the lord blessed me with.
