Intellectual property is s huge theme! How is it possible, companies which gain profits from IP are going to voluntarily gave up patents? Its like bees against honey - impossible
@TheBenjaca How It's time for those getting the most out of it to put the most in. How are more taxes going to halt Congress from overspending? They have no plans for fiscal responsibility.
@@jeromehaymaker5071 You do not need fiscal responsibility as much as you just need the government to give citizens money direction so they can choose how to invest or spend it. The problem with 'markets' is that they can only respond to price signals which can only be given by people with money; as a society grows more unequal more and more needs go unmet as the market just benefits more by responding to the signals ( greater profit margins) of those with the most money. The rest of us additional suffer as those with the most wealth can no longer invest as they already have all the money so they just outbid us for assets which then just further impoverishes the citizenry
The question of future is very misty. We know what we don't want, so we are negative. But what is the positive program? Somehow it feels naive and idealistic... :(
It's an unfair tug of war. The proletariat must stand together to accomplish anything. Government, their money interest competing with business interests pulls way harder with concentration of power and big money. The stand together part never happens.
And that is why in the USSR companies were forced to pay workers exactly what they earned based on individual productivity. In fact it created such administrative overheard that that caused big problems... Capitalism isn't about people working for the own benefit but about enriching their employers who try to pay them as little as they can so the large majority can never escape the daily grind that enriches their employers/corporations and owners.
Basic income is a good idea as long as it is understood as a right backed by a collective movement. Else, basic income may have an isolating effect on individuals as they tend to forget their dependence on others for the right. It may soon become another tool in the hands of authoritarian populist leaders who use it to gain loyalty among precarious groups while cutting spending in key areas. While experiments to see how basic income improves lives are important, they leave out the critical political aspect of basic income, i.e., how people perceive it.
@@pietersteenkamp5241 Yes, it should be based on taxing the rich and not by cutting expenditures in for example, public education. Often people may buy into receving a regular amount from the government without questioning where the money comes from. This is currently the case in many states in Inidia.
@@sarasijmajumder5767 Yes, of course giving people a basic income while cutting service delivery in ten other areas of entirely counter productive and the people who do it are deliberately sabotaging whoever they are doing that to. Basic income should enable a modest standard of living which 95% of the people of the world will use as a foundation for further self development and personal wealth creation.
A really great economist, with humanitarian qualities, which is exceptional, for economists. Great teacher and great scientist!

How can getting a basic income based on taxation/society working together make people feel more isolated?
