I have to disagree with your statement that Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn't a star in 87. By that year, Schwarzenegger was already a big action star and had become a household name by then.
You need to change this title right now! Predator 2 was a masterpiece and my VHS tape can be thrown far enough to correct your error! Seriously though, another great video. Danny Glover, Bill Paxton, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades and Janette Goldstein were 80s-90s b-casting perfection. And to have them all sharing some goofy screen time is just the chefs kiss. And holy balls, I absolutely forgot about the subway massacre. Imma rewatch this movie right now. Then Police Academy as a spritzer.

Your predator set facts are wrong. They stood in Puerto Vallarta which is a tourist spot. In a nice hotel. They would however wake up early and commute 30-45min away each day into the jungle. The locations are used for zipline tourism and I have stood at the hotel they stood at. It wasnt roach infested it was a top tier hotel for the 80’s

*Predator 2* works conceptually. It’s a fantastic *idea* to move it to the city. It’s got a cool cast, some atmospheric direction, some neat effects due to a bigger budget, and some solid action. Hopkins isn’t in the same league as McTiernan, but those aspects are all solid. The main problem is pacing. The characters spend like two-thirds of the runtime learning what the audience already knows.

Just because something "failed" at the box office doesn't mean it is a disaster, my video shop was constantly out for this movie as everyone kept renting it and no one else could get their hands on it.

Both of these films took place in & around downtown LA in the summer & I remember thinking how gross LA looked & felt, especially in P2, everyone is so sweaty & you can almost feel the smog, congestion & smells through the screen…those aesthetics & sensory detail still hold up for me
The Predator spaceship scene in 'Predator 2' was the original intended ending for the first one, until it was dropped at the last minute. According to the Blu-Ray release, every single price of Predator prop had been reported as stolen after filming had wrapped. The idea of having the Predator take on Carrabean hoods was inspired by real life events; at the time, in the late eighties, Jamaican drug gangs began making headlines for brazen behaviour in NYC.
I love Predator 2, absolutely not a failure. The only reason why a film like Predator 2 cant be made these days, is because the great majority of "modern" actors are fruitcakes. Pussies. As much as Arnold may have disliked the filming conditions, he, and the rest of the cast, were men enough to push through with it, making a unique and awesome film in the process. Why would he demand the return of the director then? If he was dissatisfied with the filming conditions, why ask for his return? My only gripe with the film has to do with those, and other, behind the scenes details, but I still love the final product and the actors again didn't quit. They did the work, and are remembered and respected for it. Again, was never a failure.
