I believe the director said "It was THIS Predator's first time on Earth", not THE Predators. Correct me if I'm wrong but having a Plasmacaster means you've already passed the Blooding to be a Blooded (adult in human terms). Either you do the hunting ritual here on Earth or in other planets which are hunting grounds. Since Feral doesn't have his Plasmacaster, it means he's under the Blooding hence he was dropped off and they descend when he died.
@@osmanerdogdu7868 you can actually take the comics for a reference to it, they explain much more on how the first Predator arrived to earth and what was his first arrival like, and this movie in particular played a lot with what was considered canon in the comic's cause they have already explained the backstory of the Predator 2 movie's gun, and for the gun to appear here just changes a lot, and I mean A LOT of things, I'd much more like to think of this movie as a separate timeline from the original franchise, cause comic wise, even the AVP event's are canon to the series as they already have been shown multiple times through them
Also, for Powerscale things It's hard to show how strong a character is, but when you see how helpless naru was to the bear, and how the bear got beaten to death by the predator bare handed, it shows that this guy is STRONG
thats only when its not fighting the main character, otherwise its about as strong as her, also its skin is about as soft as hers, probably even more soft id say and bones? not sure it had any considering how easily it got sliced and diced with primitive weapons...made that bear look pretty weak actually by comparison... must have been old and on its death bed with chipped teeth and claws. probably was a alien blob imitating a pred and explains why it didnt know how to use the tech properly, had no intelligence and didnt know any of the pred rules/behaviour properly to follow and acted like a primitive ape man that simply came across a predators corpse and its weapons.
@@VivaLaDnDLogs prolly the only time we're ever gonna see a dog be an actual character in an action horror movie. I can name SO MUCH horror movies that kills the main character's dog early just to establish the threat of the antagonists
Its kind of cool how the 3 red dots for the feral predator’s targeting system was for the 3 projectile arrows. The predators probably kept the look of the targeting system when switching to the Plasma cannon. A little origin as to why it’s 3 dots instead of 1.
They believe in playing fair on the hunt, they match technology based on what the prey has.The first predator used a plasma caster because the prey had guns. This prey doesn't.
Another comment in here suggested that this isn’t the first time the Yautja have hunted on Earth, but merely that this is the first hunt for the Predator IN THIS MOVIE, and I think that theory has a lot going for it. When I first watched Prey, I was honestly surprised that so many attacks on it were successful; and not even by humans, but by animals like the wolf and bear which I figured the Predator should have enough experience to dodge and kill with ease. That was when it hit me; this Yautja ISN’T experienced. It’s strong, intuitive, and deadly, yes, but it behaved as if dropped onto Earth with little to no understanding of terrestrial life forms. Regardless if it was dropped onto Earth blind as a means of accepting it as a challenge or if it was done as a mandate by his elders, the outcome remains the same. This film isn’t just about Naru going through her Rite of Passage. It’s about her facing off against a Predator embarking on a Ritual Hunt of its own.
The absolute best explanation of this movie. Loved this movie and plan on watching again. Not as the original, but best sequels since even tho its a prequel. But it stands alone imo.
That was my take away too...there's a symmetry between the young hunter Yautja out to prove itself with it's first big hunt, and Naru being in a similar situation with her hunt.
It is the perfect mirror image of the main protagonist Naru. Both looking to become warriors in Thier tribe. One succeeded and one failed. Amazing movie
Taabe's death and the aftereffects hit really hard. By all accounts, he died a noble & heroic death worthy of every title he carried. He got put down but kept fighting, like a warrior. He bought enough time for his sister to get away, like a big brother. He sacrificed himself for a member of his tribe, like a chief. But none of that takes away the pain & guilt Naru feels. For all her drive to be recognized as a warrior; she froze, she hesitated, and ultimately she fled as her brother was carved into a trophy. She blames herself, and she's not entirely wrong for doing so. But *man* does it set us up for a brilliant redemption!
And there are people out there going "She walked over the bodies of her dead brethern to claim her spot". Like...Did you not see the aftermath of Taabe's death? Taabe dying made the hunt more personal for Naru. She wasn't just hunting at that point, she was getting revenge.
@@spamm0145 uhhhh....the body count would say otherwise. The trappers may have ambushed him, but all their efforts did little besides get him really pissed off.

Taabe became chieftain because he brought home the Lion which Naru wounded. He returned the favor by wounding the Predator, stalling it and giving her the Chance to "bring home the kill" like he did before. The Movie, its characters AND the Predator were badass!
Impressed at the bravery of the warriors throwing themselves recklessly at the predator, when it clearly outmatched all of them together. It seems that running away was not an option.
These were a tribe of warriors that were skilled in hunting and surviving odds. They thought they’d have a chance, but they didn’t. That’s why they ran at it.
@@negativezer0741 That's not how hunting worked tho, hunting always involved caution because a injured hunter would take time to heal, precious time which was needed. Tbh I don't think I mind the idea of the movie tho, I'm not expecting it to be perfect on every single angle.
@@Commander_Boreale The point of them fighting the predator was to show that brute force alone won't stop the predator. The Comanche held their own but were outmatched by it's strength, the Fur Trappers tried to fight with their tech but were outmatched by the predator's tech, and Taabe was a skilled fighter but also lost because the predator cheated by cloaking himself to gain the upper hand again. This seems to go over a lot of people's heads, you included
@@kyiaao well actually the best hunter showed he was better then the pred in combat, but the cgi department forgot to add the heavy amounts of blood for him to see and the script forgot he was a skilled hunter, so he couldnt see the obvious sound clues or movements created by the predator like good old billy in pred1 picked up on or hell even the normal soldiers... after all he needed to die... or the predator clearly would have died as stoneage tools were turning it into mince meat and much more effective then modern weapons (lets pretend pred1/2 doesnt exist) and the best hunter had clearly owned the predator in a fight, but needed to die so star wars lady who was inept at everything despite trying to commit suicide and being as un-intelligent as humanly possible could take over... almost thought this was dumb and dumber vs the dumbest predator at one point.
Why he doesn't have the Plasma Cannon and Armband Nuke... He was there to earn his Clan right... I'm still curious how they plan to work that Pistol getting into the Elders hands.
I like that the difference between the OG Predator and Prey is also one of the things that was the same: initial confidence. In the OG Predator they were initially confident because they were macho marines and nothing was more dangerous than they were. In Prey the hunters are confident because they KNOW that there are animals more dangerous than they are, but they're used to dealing with them. I thought that was a fun aspect that was simultaneously the same and different.
I thought the whole cougar part was completely botched. Why did they go in without locating and tracking it first? I wish that whole arc was just removed, and then we wouldn't have to see that horrendous cgi cougar. It didn't even have the white marks on its face. Also, why is Naru hiding in a tree from a cougar, but then for some reason didn't think of avoiding a bear that way. A bear that size can't climb very well or very high. She had a much better chance of survival than trying to run and just hoping there's a hiding spot nearby. I wholeheartedly disagree that she's smart and capable. All of the other braves are written to be careless and skeptical of her warnings. When your role in the tribe is to investigate, anticipate, and eliminate threats, why not listen to someone who reported seeing something threatening? These are people who believed that animals actually had magic powers. I just feel like their culture and beliefs were generalized for the sake of the plot and to make Naru look like the poor eyewitness that nobody else believes.
This movie maybe more good if Naru was less feminist and other guys seems nothing than misogynistic a-hole, come on this is not teen slasher hormone And btw give that Brown Bear more chance, I bet my head if Brown Bear goes again Xenomorph at least he can rip the head 2 of them

Based on lore, I think the primitve nature of this Predator’s weapons are based on what part of the Predator planet he comes from or how honorable he wants his hunt to be as the more primitve the kill, the more honorable it is.
based on the lore, this predator can't even operate his mask because his mandibles are outside of it lol. This film was the anti-Predator by the end. I just had too many gripes with it. Especially the idea that any elder would say Feral was ready to be initiated.
@@skyfryer1223 I haven't read anything that indicates they manually control their mask with their mandibles... But that makes so much sense... I've just been over here yelling about how his mask doesn't have a rebreather so the pred should be slowly suffocating.
The fact that the Predator was dropped off by a ship means that there are other Predators still in orbit throughout the duration of these events. They would obviously return once they lost contact with the Predator which would explain how they eventually ended up with the exact pistol from Predator 2. I would be happy with a direct sequel to this movie but it is an event that doesn't actually need to be told. I would rather see the Predator in other older timelines with the Samurai , Spartans or even Vikings. The success of this movie could result in a budget to make anything possible. Prey proves that the once great franchises can be resurrected if placed in the right hands.
@@doomguydemonkiller and each one has a female role bender narrative driving them. More of this in our Predator movies please. I didn't want to see a deep comparison between the two warrior cultures. Bleh who would want that? I want to see a strong beautiful woman do stuff other people think she can't.
Vikings vs. the Predators would be a really interesting movie to see. Basically an action-packed gorefest like The Northman, but with sci-fi thriller/horror elements thrown in for good measure.
I like the different timeline ideas, but this movie made it seem like this was the first time the Predators were on Earth. Which would mean any sequel timeline would have to happen after this encounter. I could be wrong about this being their first time on Earth, and maybe it was just this specific Predators first time on Earth, or maybe they don't give them any information on the beings who live on the planet to the Predators?
I actually liked the fact that the Comanche weren’t scared. It makes sense, they’re people who believe in the supernatural and monsters/spirits so they wouldn’t be too surprised to meet a being they don’t understand whereas the more modern humans in future times would be more prone to fear
I still feel it would be better to have them scared. Kinda like King Willies death, he believed in Voodoo magic and at his final moments Christianity yet was still scared shitless, also happened to be one of the best scenes in the movie.
I had never watched any Predator films until recently, but I was curious about this one, I watched the original one to have something to compare it to and what really caught my atention was that in the final showdown Arnold defeats the predator using traps made of stones, ropes and wood, and yet people were complaining about naru defeating it with much less fire power when in the original it was more a battle of strategies than a raw strength encounter
That's because she's a female. 🙄 So people were going to immediately call it "woke propaganda" from the get-go. Don't get me wrong, there can be some pandering in Hollywood movies/TV shows these days... but people have taken their complaints to a level where *NOTHING* made w/either a female, minority or LGBTQ character in it, can get made w/out that crowd howling about it. I'm glad that folks gave this film a shot & that it proved them wrong, as I knew it could.

The predator’s mask kinda reminds me of a Wendigo skull It’d be kinda cool if the Comanche took the description of the predator from Naru and imagined it as what we see the Wendigo as it is today
Sorry to be pedantic but a) the Wendigo is not a Comanche myth, entirely different cultural sphere b) the deer skull thing is not actually accurate to the traditional Algonquin wendigo descriptions, but more or less a modern invention. It’s kinda like the modern werewolf association with silver and the moon, got retconned into the mythology more than people realize.
@@fraelikkriil830 Yeah, an accurate description of a Wendigo would be a very tall skeletal looking humanoid with pale skin. Do people even remember that even in the first movie Dutch had to resort to primitive tactics to defeat the Predator? You and others keep mentioning “bow and arrow” and yet Dutch also used one like the Comanche here too. Not to mention this was repeated again in Predators. Honestly, I bought into the idea of someone with primitive tools fighting a Predator from the beginning because this was done twice already! Kinda redundant argument if you ask me.
Dutch built explosive arrows using his scraps, built spring stake devices, and falling tree stumps with his bare hands using science. She built an axe with a string, got saved by the Predator from a bear, and got captured and saved like 3 times. The Predator in this was dope though. And the premise for this movie was cool, but the ending and her ability to actually take on a predator with her "skills" was a bit silly. 6:13 - I personally think the Predator from ‘87 is my favorite. The design of the Predator from Prey reminds me of the hell knight demon from DOOM. Particularly with the design of the face. I dig it. One of my favorite franchises has redeemed itself from the abomination that The Predator (2018) was.
For some reason, I personally felt this specific Predator wasn't as "sinister" as the others we've seen. I felt he wasn't some big bad alien that needed to die this time. I think it's because maybe we had someone like Nayu to compare both to each other, unlike the protagonists from the other movies. She was doing the exact same thing it was trying to do: prove itself worthy through a ritual, right-of passage hunt. It just turns out Nayu was the superior of the two. I almost felt a touch sad for it when it died. Even by a little bit, that similarity they shared made this Predator feel a touch more........"human."
Humanizing the predator is what got us the shitty "autism is the next step in evolution" predator movie. It was an alien hunter with a parallel goal to Nayu. It was a badass, but it was an alien monster hell bent on claiming as many trophies as possible to prove it's worth as a hunter.
@@Deverim3327 I think that's humanizing a predator TOO much. Or at least doing so in the wrong direction. Something like Prey does it better without going overboard by giving us that parallel. Sure, it is a murderer, but take that away and it becomes pretty much what Nayu is: a just someone ready to prove something to their honorbound, ritual-based race. It's even a touch inexperienced at first when fighting off the wild life, much like Nayu was starting off her ritual. It's not the Predator making autism a superpower, but still, it makes you stop and realize, "yeah, this is just what it's race does." That's why I felt more bad for it than any other Predator, even if only for a moment or two. And it didn't laugh creepily like in the original. That immediately makes him less of a straight up villain.
@@MrChava54 The laugh was always really badass to me though. like a "It doesn't matter if you beat me, I'm still gonna kill you!" since they typically do that laugh before blowing everything up while denying their technology from other species.
The whole fighting the Yautja with bow and arrow thing never bothered me because I knew in the end it would not be a defining factor. In the end it has always been about defeating the Yautja with wits, planning, adapting and using your environments to your advantage. I was really curious to see how she would defeat the feral Predator and the actress playing Naru did a great job with her character.

so them using primitive weapons to slice and dice the pred like its flesh was made from butter, clearly showing it could be killed with just a few more swings from primitive tools made u think they would kill it some other way? if the cgi department had no forgot the large amounts of blood from its wounds or that he would have picked up on its sound/movement naturally anyways... hell even pred 1 dudes did and billy did early on as well... yet the best hunter... blind, deaf and dumb stands their like a moron after owning the predator... why? so a moronic / inept girl can be the best and smartest fighter thats defeat it... well give her a day so star wars magic can do it thing first. well true it was obvious what was intended from the start, but utterly pointless when the pred was clearly so weak to injury from primitive tools and didnt know how its own tech worked and had the intelligence comparable to ape man millions of years ago and acted much the same... not as pred lore dictates they should act, behave, look or how their tech actually functions, basically they changed how the preds thermal vision works eg its not thermal vision anymore(though they do have several vision modes, including sound a motion, but the movie made it clear its thermal, yet did not apply it as thermal) and also changed how human biology works, so no longer accurate to real work humans or pred lore eg the girl would have been dead in order to reduce her thermal signature to the point it could not be detected anymore... all in order to make the ending happen with a weak girl, with no brains or real fighting ability explained made very evident in her frequent attempts of suicide and being generally dumb as all hell and generally inept at everything... how she was allowed to stay in the tribe or survived child hood being so stupid and suicidal is not explained.

Finally someone not crapping on Predators and Predator 2. I seen clips of Prey but I decided to get Hulu just to watch the entire film because of positive reviews and clips I seen. Definitely subscribing to this channel.
The director already clarified that this is NOT the Predator's first time on Earth as a species, but it is this INDIVIDUAL Predator's first time on Earth.
Prey is genius because the Predator and Naru’s stories are parallel to each other. Both are trying to prove something, not just to themselves, but also to their respective tribes. For any of us that follow Predator Lore we know that they are accepted into what is equivalent to a tribe only if they hunt a worthy warrior. The bear fight shows how the Predator, even though he has strength and tech on his side, is out of his element. The bear actually overpowers the Predator and there is even a moment where the bear stands on top of the Predator with the green glowing blood running through its mouth. The only reason the Predator is able to kill the bear is because the bear turns its back and gets cocky. Naru exploits the Predator being out of its element by studying it. It learn it patterns, how it uses its weapon, and how to use her skills as a hunter and gatherer to outsmart the Predator. It’s actually not such a far fetched idea that Naru could kill the Predator this way because that’s how Dutch did it in the original movie. When the Predator takes off all his weapons and fights Dutch, Dutch gets brutalized by the Predator. Only by outsmarting it does the Dutch kill the Predator. Naru does the same thing, but in her own way. But the fact that they are both after same thing shows the them of commonality even with rivals.
Those are excellent points. I didn’t know it was released also in Comanche dubbing, so I watched the English version at first. The acting was pretty bad, like CW level. The Comanche dub definitely helps.
The reality is they are already part of a tribe. It's the equivalent of special forces training, can they cut it or not. Predators only hunt worthy prey. I'm sorry but they scan the skulls of their prey, like a hunter trying to land that buck, with the biggest antlers. This is like an adult fighter, beating the crap out of a bunch of kids. Not to mention the jungle hunter was toying with Dutch and a special forces unit. Who were armed with machine guns, grenade launchers, and a mini gun. Not to mention, some of the biggest specimens humanity had to offer. These men were elite soldiers, and almost
The thing most people tend to forget about Predators is that 90% of the time they get killed by melee weapons. Guns literally just piss them off. Naru was clever for using its own tech against it. Love that sequence when it comes barreling into the tree, gets it's wristblade stuck, then cuts off its own arm with the shield! We saw only minutes earlier how sharp that thing is; it can cut through stone without friction! No flesh & bone is gonna stand up to that. And, of course, setting it up for a headshot from its own crossbow bolts. Ugly as this Pred's face was, I love that expression it makes when it turns to see its own mask staring at it.
@@christopherberg2689 ehhhhhh sortta. the blooding isnt a special forces training thing, its a rite of passage for a predator thats becoming an adult, the Feral Predator given its gear and visual level of knowledge on the hunt (its obviously not fully in its depth on earth) suggests that the Feral is currently doing his blooding ritual on earth. this would mean hes far FAR less capable than any predator weve really been shown so far and it shows, the Feral shows to be a little over zealous when it comes to jumping in on a fight, and on more than one occasion walks right into a trap a typical blooded Yautja would have already boobytrapped and counter ambushed. it makes more than enough sense a far more experienced hunter could take him down by out smarting him, even though they are VASTLY outmatched in every single physical attribute possible.
Dutch defeated the Pred by setting up a trap. To physically set that trap up, he used his body as a counterweight and his muscle strength to pulley up a big heavy log that dropped on the Pred's head.
Greyback (Elder at the end of Predator 2) fought with Raphael Andolini against the latter's mutinous crew a year before the events in Prey and gifted him a pistol with his name on it. The comic has been slightly retconned with Raphael just a companion of the French settlers while Naru was the one in possession of the pistol at the end of the movie, which means in Prey 2 she and the Comanche might be attacked by Pirates, who take her away on their ship. If they follow the plot of the comic, then it will be Naru not Raphael who teams up with Greyback against the Pirates, and it will also explain how Greyback earned that Pistol he would centuries later hand over to Mike Harrigan for defeating City Hunter. So we might finally get a Predator vs Pirates movie lol. BTW, Aliens vs Predator is still very much canon in the Xenoverse, so the Yautja have been hunting on Earth for at-least several thousands of years.
@@sanjaysanj5603 true, but the writers clearly planned on replacing Raphael's story in the comic with Naru in Prey 2, which is why they casted him in the first movie as a non-significant character compared to his comic book counterpart. They are melting his back-story with that of Naru's future as a captive on a Pirate ship, which would also give a good reason as to why Greyback is even in the area (intrigued by Naru's victory over Feral he follows her and watches Naru get captured and starts hunting Pirates lol)
I wish they could have focused this energy on writing a good movie instead of retconning established lore but you know how artistically bankrupt the movie industry is these days.
The original comic story is so epic, it's a shame that this movie made the pistol some piece of junk with no cool story behind it. If the Yautja do fight her tribe, they wouldn't take that weapon as an honorable memento, they'd take something that represents the natives. Super disappointed in the ignorance of the director. ONE LITTLE GOOGLE SEARCH would have shown the pistol's origin.
It’s not the perfect predator film but it was one of the better ones. I’m also glad that it went straight to streaming services because I personally much prefer to watch it on my own tv.
I agree, I actually really enjoyed it until the last scene. It felt like the main character was just lathered in plot armor. Although overall it was good
Love this. Ive seen the first 2 movies about 50-60 times through out my life. Was embarrassed when everything after came out. This one is AMAZING. The whole crew who put this together needs to stay with it. Come on with prey 2.
From a design POV. I wasn't a fan. This predator just felt like it was made by someone who had idea about it. The story was solid if not one dimensional, the plotting was really bad in places but the film had great sound mixing and the setting is what initially had me intrigued. But by the end it just relegates the film in a mindless action-alien slasher. No good can come from Disney owning these franchises.
I just watched it actually and to be honest I loved it And the better part is it had a tight budget and was way better than the others that had millions to spare The story was really good and I agree on your topic of not bringing the male figures down to make her looks stronger or something like that No they made it realistic and it was a very good movie in general 9/10
@@costco_pizza I personally wouldn't go that far, but if they had more budget and somehow were able to do all of it without CG, It would've been even better. But it would pretty difficult to make.
What was realistic exactly ? The fact that at the final battle a little girl was able to fight face to face against the predator and not only that but not get hit ONCE ? that is realistic ?
Thank you. Just thank you for this take. I completely agree and I thought your observations were very fair. It’s like some people are conditioned to think that any female action protagonist is a “Mary Sue” just because she’s a competent fighter.
Yeah, I feel like if it was a guy then less people would nitpick. A few people would still complain, but I think most would admire him (espiocially some girls I know XD)
Prey is a very close 2nd to the OG Predator for me. It's like 1A and 1B. I loved how the French trappers unload their muskets at this predator, to no effect, and then scramble to reload. The predator just stands there like "It's cool, I'll wait." My theory about the pistol is that some predators come back, sh1t goes down, and Naruu gives Greyback the pistol as a trophy for helping *her*. It becomes tradition that the pistol is passed on to a worthy ally.
There's SO many amazing subtle details in this movie. He doesn't just stand there and wait; he thinks they'll continue firing, but at that moment the predator realizes that their weapons can only shoot one bullet at a time. The movie is *filled* with these subtle details in the acting of both the Predator and Naru played by Amber. Fucking amazing Predator movie. It knocks off the OG film for me and I've been a fan for 25+ years.
I just imagine they gave back the Predator body and she gave the gun to the predators that arrived as a trophy from the killer of their group as a sign of respect
I guess everyone is going to bypass how the cold flower thing makes no sense. She takes it to make her body temperature go down but then she stands up straight in front of it as it passes by her and the movie acts like she’s invisible yet just cause you’re cold doesn’t mean your body shape isn’t recognizable. DUTCH in the first movie put his body up against trees and stuff to break up his shape. Like it literally walked right next to her. So stupid
@@Phantom_Anthem because it was its called the rule of cool, sure the predator not noticing her doesnt really make sense when you think about it BUT ITS A MOVIE it made for a cool looking shot, thats what matters the original movies had their issues too, doesnt make them bad either
I liked it too, but there was still a good amount of plot armour. They made this predator strong enough to one shot a bear with his fist. But somehow when hitting Naru or throwing her, she miracoulosly is barely damaged. But mostly it was good.
I think the 'punch' feral pred used when fighting the bear was actually him using his wrist blades to slice at the Bear's neck when it charged at him. And Feral Pred is definitely a unblooded hunter, given how ameturish he felt with fighting other skilled opponents and how brutal he was in his kills.
@@eduardovargas1052 OK let's say he used his blade but he was strong enough to lift the bear above his head. in the end he was beaten like a piece of cake, but compared to predator 1 it beat the crap out of Arnold till he finally realized it's weakness. movie was good but some parts felt like lazy writing or didn't want to spend more budget
Agree the movie is different and engaging, but the ending was not good at all, few points: 1 - So is establish the Predator is strong and can knockout a bear, but when he smashes the girl to the ground full force, she stands up like nothing happened, even though previously she lost conscience for hours when she fall from the tree. 2 - She wraps the rope axe and then pulls the predator towards so he fell on the muddy waters. That would require her to be really strong opposite of what the movie premise is that is not brute strength but ability that counts. 3- The idea the mask targeting still active after being removed is silly. Worse to imply the Predator does not know how his own weapon works. Or even if you concede is blind by fury that the weapon does not have a feedback/warning about the auto targeting being active? Moreover that he didn't shot in a rush.. it took his time to AIM and shoot. 4 - Then she had to have the best epiphany about how to place the mask to target the Predator head including his position distance and height. Btw the lasers were off when she placed the mask.
Since they now have a good template to start from for a successful Pred franchise, they should try exploring different timelines. Maybe Pred vs a Spartan, a Viking, Knight, Samurai, Tribal African warrior, Aztec warrior, etc.
Absolutely loved the movie and I really hope they go further with the Idea of The predator hunting in the Past.. I would love a Predator viking movie or an Aegyptian setting
long as its a diferent director/writer... then it might have a chance to be good and also remain accurate to the lore at the same time, unlike this movie.
5 ft tall little girl vs Arnie vs Predator, keep in mind all of the badasses with massive weapons died, even Dutch failed to take down the Predator with weapons, he ultimately used traps made from the jungle itself. The Predator has problems seeing details. As for which time is the first time, given they don't come regularly, they don't make a big deal about it, everyone that ever meets one might as well be the first time. They have no way of knowing what happened thousands of years ago on another continent.
Its a perfect movie for this Superhero generation, I like how they seamlessly integrated a predator movie and a superhero movie together but I'm unsure if I discovered all Naru's powers; here are the ones I found - SUPER STRENGTH - (1) pulled a 500 pound predator off his feet with a rope, (2) while the predator was on top of her she pulled herself and the 500 pound predator 2 feet to get her head between the 2 rocks. (3) she was also able to rip his mandible off with ease and stab him with it and cut him to pieces with a rock axe both doing more damage than a point blank gunshot to the head. IMPENETRABLE SKIN - he hit her directly in the face with the razor shield that he cut through a guy’s spine and a tree at the same time with and there was no mark on her. INSTANT HEALING - he lifted her overhead (12 feet high?) and slammed her on the ground and didn't even knock the wind out of her. SUPER REFLEXES - (1) she invented the rock axe Yo-Yo thing that no mortal could possibly use and wielded it expertly right from the start (2) she dipped and dodged the predator’s attacks numerous times with ease even though it one hit killed most everyone else. Maybe INVISIBILITY? He never seemed to be able to see her when she was attacking. Maybe MIND CONTROL? - The predator stared at his own mask pointing a laser at his head for 5 seconds and didn't even try to move.
meanwhile Arnold, a mountain of a man and a special forces soldier gets slapped around and almost killed he land one hit and immediately regrets it, he had to use a clever trap, that also failed as the Predator race is super smart and saw straight through that shit, he only wins in the end by using the trap differently, bit of luck and bit of fast thinking. Meanwhile she is fucking Neo and taking hits that would probably shatter about 40 different bones. it was so close to a great film just too many woke message pushes for me, and she was almost a great character I mean she trained and even fucked up, all good stuff, shame her motive was I want to hunt coz people say I can't, so trash lol. Also the predator walked into a fucking bear trap, in the first film he gets past a maze of trip wires, mines and cleymores, small touch but come on guys. Ah tbh this was a decent film just let down by some stupid writing and directing decisions. Also stop making her slide all the time and jump of tree's it's so cheesy you don't need to slide all the fucking time lol.
While I think the OG Predator is still the best, I think Prey definitely takes it as the perfect sequel taking what made Predator great and giving it a little twist to keep it familiar but fresh, I didn't think about the characters too much as to me I always saw them as rather one dimensional same as the OG cast just with enough depth to make them interesting. Either way MINOR SPOILERS: The part where Taabe says "If it bleeds, we can kill it" was one of the best parts like I freaked out saying "HE SAID IT, HE SAID THE THING" it was just a massive stroke of nostalgia from the OG one. definitely earned a solid 7-8/10 in my book
Calling it Perfect is a stretch. Compared to most of the sequels though it smashes them. Most Sinister Predator by far along with Kevin Peter Hall. If they made another Prey, the Predator should win.
@@lex_rodriguez cause it's not people are overhyping this movies for obvious reasons truth is it has shitty CGI, predictable plot, main character is too superhero like, incompetent males, predator gets dumb down at the end,the scenery was nice and it had decent pacing. 6.5/10
@@fbird90nw I mean that's just your opinion bro , I'm a huge predator fan , I love both AVPs and I think this is the best predator movie of all time. I actually disagree with everything you just complained about. Movie is 9.5/10 to me . And I'm not overhyping it , u genuinely think it deserves it . I watched it 3 times now.
Wrong. This is a Predator movie with a completely unbelievable lead character. This is due to what I call The Disney Star Wars REY character effect. The other Native American characters might as well have been snapping their fingers, saying "You go Girl" ..."You got this". Sure, it follows a Predator in a different timeline, has some Easter eggs to the big 3 Predator films, however, no matter how bad ass a certain character is, a Predator can kill them. Not in this movie, I mean, the lead character is too perfect in her fighting ability. I mean, she fought 5 or 6 of her tribe's warriors and never even got punched or struck. It is irresponsible and it takes people out of the film if their lead characters are Super People.
That moment when predator punch bear's face to death was soooo cool🥶 I watched that scene over and over. Directors know how it we really wants in a movie. Awsome🤘

I was really pleasantly surprised how good Prey actually is, while seeing those mentioned red flags before release. For my ranking, the 1987 Predator is my favorite, Predator 2 and Prey are pretty much on the same spot for me, those are the best sequels (or prequel) so far. Gotta watch Predators again though.
Prey is alright except they have to ruined it with a strong female character. They could've just use any no name dude in it and still turn out ok but no no , Hollywood loves that wokeness.

Hoping to see a Predator prequel with a Nazi Germany WWII era concept. I personally have 0 interest in Samurais fighting Predators, but a WWII Nazi Zombie (Mutated humans from Nazi experiments) vs Predators would be insanely cool. Just make them all female, I want to see Zombies with 6 tits fighting a female Predator with a giant vaginal face.
Anyone else notice that the brother somehow just levitates off of the horse in the scene at 10:40 lol? That would've both looked a lot better and made more sense physically if he were already standing on the horse's back and leapt off of to stab the Predator instead of just floating off of it hahaha
I agree, and my thoughts are this......the original has the American concept behind it and that's American soldiers going to war into a jungle to fight off another group of enemies but it turns into the soldiers fighting and being hunted by the predator. Now, my reason for predators with Adrien brody being the best one from the original is because they brought back the elements of soldiers slash fighters back into it fighting and being hunted by the predators. I haven't seen prey yet but my order would probably be............#1the original, #2 prey from looking at clips from TH-cam, and then #3 predators with Adrien brody # 4 with Danny Glover and all the others what ever order from these.👌🏾💯💯💯
Overall, this was a pretty solid Predator movie, definitely one of the better ones (though admittedly that's not the highest bar to clear). My one real complaint is that Naru's plot armor got excessive in the final fight. I expect some level of plot armor for a protagonist fighting a Predator, but parts of that fight were hard to swallow (for instance, her getting choke-slammed and recovering fast enough to keep going).
I loved it!!!!! Prey is the best. Amber did an excellent job acting and the story is inspiring. I recommend it. must watch. BTW...your review is excellent too!
‘But there’s no way a 125 lb woman can take on a Predator. She’s not physically strong enough to fight one.’ That’s the whole point of the ‘Predator’ series. They stacked the original with the likes of Schwarzenegger, Weathers, Ventura, and Duke to exert pure brute force, and then terrify the audience when this brute force gets slaughtered by the Predator. That’s why the Predator beats the crap out of a bear in this movie. If a character fights a predator with pure strength, that character WILL die! It’s only when a protagonist gets crafty, resourceful, and gutsy with it’s strategy that they defeat the Predator. And Naru the tracker exemplifies those qualities in spades!
I thought it was fair. I was pleasantly surprised in the action and gore departments. I liked the setting. Just feels like some missed opportunities occurred in order to appeal to a broader audience. Which I understand from a certain perspective. "The Message" didn't feel too heavy handed, but it was intermittently present. I didn't click with the main actor either, but I thought the sibling relationship was decent. Worth a watch, but Pred 1 & 2 are still better. I'l rewatch some action scenes, but probably not the whole movie again.
As a person who had Prey as their first ever Predator movie, I'm actually proud to call myself invested, gonna be watching some of the other Predator movies soon. There were a couple of...things that I didn't like about it, but it was still nonetheless pretty good.
@@kosmique THANK YOU! I never understood the criticism of 2. Glover, Busey, Paxton... I even liked the predator more. The red skin tone and more angular mask made it look even more aggressive and intimidating. Then we get the ending with a handful of predators, the Xenomorph skull, and the pistol... It was fanTASTIC!
I really enjoyed it, there's something slightly off with the CGI I can't put my finger on but I'm willing to let that go but I do think you saw to much of the Predator un-cloaked in broad daylight, it's like seeing Batman on the beach, it's just not right
Yeah. The practical shots are amazing. It’s beautifully filmed and then the cgi is kinda shitty. I’m not entirely sure how cgi vs practical budgets differ. But a few really good close up models has to be cheaper than a ton of out of focus “monster” looks.
To be fair... Everyone knows what a predator looks like. And in this movie there was not as much hiding spaces like in the original. It was far more open.
The only thing that I would correct in this movie is the ending fight sequence - the predator conveniently lands on the sharpened sticks, hurting itself, then it jumps 20 meters to get stuck in the tree and gets it's arm cut off, which is okay I guess, but then the shield doesn't fully open right where there is naru's neck. Skipping the dog part, the light female character somehow pulls the giga chad 200+ kg predator into the mud pond with ease, which is my biggest issue here. Then he stands perfectly where his helmet aims just to get shot, which is possible but lucky af
I think the predator lost it's footing when she was on top of him....and the whole sheild thing, well i guess you can say that the rocks just blocked it.
@@youngspecial64 Yea on my second watch I noticed she used rope as leverage on the quite wounded predator at that point to drag him into the pit. I had zero problems with the fights. That predator was just accumulating damage the entire film so by the end he wasn't anywhere close to even decent fighting form, let alone top.
everyone saying BuT tHiS wAs a pRiMaL PrEdAtOr . while this predator didnt fought in a primal way at all . if so , the predator wouldnt try to open his shield but just squeeze the girls neck amd done . he had her by the neck goddamit . this predator was technical and used technology oftem . so no no primal feral predator mindset
I loved this movie. The pacing was excellent, and I never lost interest at any moment. Definitely the best Predator film since the og. Just really unfortunate it didn't get the theatrical release. Maybe whoever made that decision wasn't confident enough in the film? Considering The Predator was a flop.
Predator (1987) was the perfect Predator movie, Prey is above average/good movie at best, better than most in the franchise which is admirable but not perfect....
Don't get me wrong. This Predator movie is fantastic but anyone who says this film is better than the original is beyond delusional and just lying to themselves. OG Predator is a masterpiece. One of the best action/horror/science fiction movies of all time. It's in a category all by itself.
I agree that this was wonderfully shot, but that's about it. I hate how they fluctuated the Predator's strength to suit the narrative...Pred gives a bear an ass whoopin' but now isn't strong enough to kill 120 lb teenage Naru after throwing her into the ground?? Not buying it. Someone else pointed out that in the end of the original movie Dutch is flying in a helo looking broken, defeated, and racked with survivor's guilt after killing Predator. He was a fierce soldier who is now completely traumatized. Naru on the other hand grins after being named War Chief like she didn't just lose her brother and half of the tribe's best warriors. All she cared about was proving everyone wrong...terrible.
Iv actually gone to Vallarta where they filmed the first predator. I thought it was really cool how they kept the predator and the chopper on display. You can also go zip-lining super fun!
Also AvP shows predators being back when the Aztec were around in 1300-1521, that’s before in 1716. And they had plasma cannons defending temples. Update I didn’t know that it was cannon.... so is the feral predator species is like a run away predator, or some form of a new super predator in accident times?
@@TaskerFilms In the 2004 Alien vs. Predator film it's revealed that the Predator species arrived in ancient Egypt and helped humans construct the pyramids. In exchange, the people provided sacrifices as hosts for the Xenomorphs so that the Predators could routinely return to Earth to hunt them as some kind of twisted rite of passage.
My thoughts on why I wasn’t worried about a female lead beating the Predator is that that fight will never be a contest of strength. This Predator suplexes a bear and the walks off the fight. There’s not a human being on the planet that has the strength to do that, testosterone or otherwise. You beat Predators by outsmarting them, and thats a beat we can all dance too
The only thing I could keep thinking while seeing ALL of the amazing panoramic shots, was that it was a DAMN shame this didnt hit theaters. You can tell that they shot this movie with the idea it would hit theaters. The wide shots, panoramic views, the lighting and that *amazing* sound design! It was SO. QUIET. And you can hear everything, with subtle nature sounds and gentle music, with the builds and stabs when needed. Factor it in with the amazing visuals and man, I need to see this movie in IMAX. I dont even care that I already watched it. I would pay to watch it in a premium setting.
@@nodsib hell yeah. Even on a phone, the picture is amazing. I'm going to hook it up to a projector with a sound system, so I hope that simulates a theater atmosphere 😁
Saw it yesterday, it was pretty entertaining and actually a very cool concept for a predator film! What bothers me with "Prey" and all other modern mainstream films and media that is pushing "The message" is that all the male characters always have to be written poorly. They always act stupid, recless, sexist, toxic etc. they always have to be portrayed as assholes and the female lead is always being portrayed as overly good and heroic without any human flaws at all. Its just bad writing and it doesnt resonate with most of the audience, since both the female and male characters are portrayed as caricatures rather than actual human beings.
The male characters werent portrayed as that though, sure some of them were all of those things, but it was the hunters, the young lads, who realistically would have acted that way, in real life, especially back then. Her brother wasn't written as a stereotype, and admitted at the end he dragged her back to camp because he wanted to protect her, that's great no? We've got to remember that we're talking about a time where females were absolutely not expected to be hunters, and would have been met with hostility. It would have been more unrealistic if they were all nice and accepting to her.
they literally weren't tho - and like, you're watching a film about humans over 200 years ago....those guys WERE sexist, toxic etc....they owned slaves lmao. can't really uh, get around that. and Naru in this film has flaws, so not sure where you're going with that. (plus, plenty of male action heros don't "have flaws" it's not unique to female action heros. just complained about more)
I loved "Prey"! For me, it's the best Predator. I loved the relationship between Naru (female lead) and her brother. He believed in her, gave her an opportunity to become a hunter and never dismissed her early on when she talked about seeing the Predator. The action scenes with Naru especially against other humans were some of the most realistic I've seen in movies involving females. It seemed more grounded and believable. The only little nitpick was that the Predator was a little too overpowered and it's speed was ridiculous. It's speed rivaled a Cheetah. The visuals/cinematography was stunning. Absolutely beautiful movie. The score is awesome and just adds to the intensity. The acting was solid including Sarii (the dog) played by Coco!
You realize that's how fast predators are right? They're about 2x as fast as a human. As for Naru I hated her. She was so obsessed with not doing what she was perfect at she wanted to do something she sucked at. No hunter tries to kill a dear with a tomahawk or a bear with a bow. And everytime her brother tried to give her credit she either denied or went on to show why he was wrong. She only won because the film made her. Honestly, she was a complete bitch the entire movie

Prey is up there with the original Predator and Predator 2! The three together make the perfect Predator Trilogy! The flintlock call back at the end closed the loop for the three movies amazingly.
@@francoisdelrio1824 Why did you come to that conclusion? We already know from the credits the Predator ships come back and meet Naru. This is most likely to retrieve their fallen warrior and find out how he died. All she has left of the Predator is his head. You know the head with the bullet wound from the flintlock pistol? Just like in Predator 2 they respect DG for his victory -they don't kill him for revenge. So here they collect the dead Predator's skull, along with the weapon that caused the damage (either offered by Naru, or traded with something from the Predator). That's how the pistol ends ups with the Predators ready for Predator 2.
@@WakingDreamer01 nah bruh that’s all 🧢. Why on earth would they randomly start trading when that hadn’t been established in ANY OTHER MOVIE. DG got the flint for winning, but they didn’t come collect the weapon he used to kill his Pred, your reasoning is flawed G. Plus Naru has ZERO reason to ever encounter them in belief that they’re “not here for revenge”.
@@francoisdelrio1824 They didn't come to collect DG's weapon because he was ALREADY on their ship - and killed the Predator with its own throwing disc...which the other Preds SAW with their very OWN cloaked eyes. Again, we KNOW from the credits that three Predator ships (or thunderbirds based on Naru's beliefs) land in front of Naru. The pistol is in her possession as the tribe's new/current War Chief. It's also established in her character, that she is smart in her observations and thinks before she strikes/shoots/attacks (different to her brother or the feral predator - which lead to his death). The dots presented are straight forward to connect. Naru the Commanche War Chief, is visited by the Elder Predator (or similar type/rank as seen Predator 2), who was leading/dropping/collecting the feral Predator for the hunt on Earth...
There are some character writing issues and conflicts between characters. With characters that are more stereotypes than archetypes. But we've seen so many really bad Predator movies that this one look perfect.
Prey is a movie written by folks after a 5min google search and it shows, the predator does not look accurate to it species, nor is it biologically or technologically accurate, it has flesh weaker then a humans unlike the original predator(species) that only suffered minor flesh wounds to modern military weapons with AP ammo and even in number 2 the shotgun slugs point blank to he chest could only nock it over, failed to penetrate through something they can do very easily through human/animal flesh and bone...telling us the predators flesh is extremely tuff which is why the main character needed the preds weapon to actually kill it and arnie technically didnt kill it either, it killed itself and it took something that would crush a human to pulp to actually turn the fight, yet even then the pred had enough strength to easily push that mass of it body. yet we have stoneage tools, tearing this new predators flesh and going through its body like its paper.... seriously? the only weapons which seem to follow actual logic are the hunters guns, which basically seem incapable of doing much harm... which just makes it seem even more comedic when a primitive weapons slice and dice so easily as this defies all real world logic as well as predator movie logic. clearly not the same species, its flesh is weaker then a humans, why they would even need the predators weapons to kill it, is not known? when its flesh is so weak, so much weaker then a humans, yet vs modern traps weapons it seems far more damage resistant, are hatchets its magical weakness>? perhaps in the next predator movie all the soldiers should be given primitive hatchets? yet somehow despite its flesh being so weak... its strong enough to bench press a bear... clearly logic changes according the scene and bends to the needs of the plot, just like the face mask coming of when its needed, despite already been shown to be basically immune to this happening prior, again logic is broken to force the inevitable end. it becomes a joke by the end of the movie as its clear enough arrows and hatchets would easily have put it down, its not particularly very intelligent, sub-human infact, infact most animals could be considered more intelligent then this predator and its fighting prowess is clearly absent after taking a few injuries / though also takes a back seat when needed as well and basically show the pred is useless and dumb without its technology and very much still dumb with it... infact without technology it wouldnt even have survived the first arc the movie, as its body is far to prone primitive injuries and it lacks basic human intelligence in order to survive on its own strength... again clearly not the same species as the first 2 films... so "prey" is a apt name for the film, as its not a predator film. clearly this predator is not a species capable of space capable technology or even metal forging... one might mistake this alien for a genetically deformed sub-human that stumbled across a predators corpse and took its weapons. ultimately they couldnt figure out how any primitive society could beat the pred, so they turned the movie into a rpg game were the boss predator gets de-buffed so the hero can kill it, who thanks to plot armor wont die the 1001 times they should have died and ironically makes the need to use the pred weapons to kill it utterly pointless by the movies end as the predtaor is clearly "bleeds" the plenty and with ease, basic primitive strategies would have all that was required to kill it... infact if the natives had set a bunch of traps for bears and larger game... they probably would have found the predators corpse in one of them soon enough. so basically they created a brand new predator species for this movie, a much weaker, stupid species that only appears strong in certain scenes to make the main character look all that more superior by the movies end, but in actuality makes the main character and movie look like a total fraud. why did her bro die again? he clearly was a better fighter and was more smarter then the predator, yet decided to stand there and die? because? the pred also was bleeding all over the place... is that hard for the best hunter in the tribe to notice? or did the cgi guys forget that part? hmm i wonder... the main character who if not for some super heavy plot armor would never have survived their child hood, let alone the span of the movie, nor does it make any sense why the tribe would have tolerated someone who basically sucks at everything, doesnt want to learn anything, do anything, but demands to be treated equal to the best hunters in a male dominated society... yet basically doesnt even need to follow their schedule either... were she is clearly a female and again sucks at hunting and doesnt want to learn either or follow the rules for male or female... the logic is profound in this one... no primitive tribe would have tolerated her, specially a smaller tribe were ever member counts even more to pull their weight... u can just imagine what would have "really" happened to her growing up if she was like this... that assuming she didt kill herself first, as she clearly has a death wish. very very unrealistic in all aspects and fails to apply the predator correctly, this is a movie for casuals and those desperate for anything above 0/10. which it is above 0/10, probably a 3 or a 4/10 at most, which compared to most movies these days is actually pretty good... perhaps why so many people like this movie then, specially those desperate for a predator film that isnt so bad you wish u could unseen it, like the last one... at this point im sure 2 hours of dog *** would be better on screen, then the last film, so prey really has the bar set ultra low for it making it very easy to get praise when it doesnt actually have to even try very hard, just be better then the last film basically, which it does achieve, it is clearly better then the last film... but as a pred film and even standalone film... it still suks to the point i actually regret having seen it, im not so desperate to overlook how bad it is. not only cant the main character hunt for crap, they have equally less brain cells to match, yet the movie would somehow make u believe they are somehow smart... when they basically cant do anything to show intelligence almost the entire way through and keep trying to kill themselves like its their life mission... no wonder the predator needed such a severe intelligence/body nerf, the main character is always trying to commit suicide, it mandatory in order to keep the main character even alive past the first 10 minutes.
she cant even figure out bringing a barking dog on a hunt is a bad idea for hunting when its always barking, again somehow tolerated by her tribe... though this dog will magically disappear when needed (i honestly think they forgot about it till the next scene or just arent sure how to make the scene work with a barking dog) and return like wise, the main character really has no brains and that is made abundantly clear in the first arc... to the degree the tribe dont care if she basically does nothing to help tribe, because she is simply that useless, though again makes sense how she would tolerated as such. the only thing she is good at is giving people some medicine, though again giving people medicine which does all the work for you, doesnt require intelligence or skill, as such she basically depends on this medicine as a go to for basically everything, yet its somehow meant to make her appear capable or intelligent, but under review simply provides more evidence of her lack intelligence or capability and dependence on others or other things for her to survive, even the lion hunt made no sense, the skilled hunter simply clueless and the scared girl in a clearly unrealistic physical motion done with cgi motion edits impales the mountain lion and then gets magically saved by her bro... yea okay... yet this clumsy scardy cat will soon become a elite fighter/hunter dont u worry, because thats what the plot dictates, not common sense. ontop that using the medicine to reduce body temperature = dont work, arnies mud worked as it acted as a insulating barrier, but did not make him invisible, which is why he needed to blend in physically as well, he couldnt just stand there or the pred would still see him and could also detect his motion/sound,, as we know the preds visor can also detect even ur heart beat as well, they are not dependent on thermal to hunt or see either or the visor, which is why things started to go south very quickly for arnie, when the pred realized he had reduced his thermal signature again predators arent stupid and rather make humans look dumb, but even animals can be dangerous, hence the reason for the human hunt. reality is after awhile the mud effect would also wear of and as for the flower/medicine in prey reducing body temp = total bs, in order to reduce the body temp low enough to not register her on the visor = your dead and if not dead, unable to move as ur entire metabolic system would have been shutdown = u would be unconscious/dieing anyways, so using this flower and yet still running around at full steam and suffering no ill effects other then "im magically invisible" is total bs from real logic and predator logic, the writer/director had obviously no clue hgow the pred tech works or how thermal cameras work which its based of "real world thermal camera technology", basically they injected pure harry potter magic to make this work, when the pred would have not only been able to see were she is thermally it would have also heard her, detected her motion and outline as she made no effort to hide herself... it would also have killed her soon as it detected her, as the predator had already marked her as prey as well... so again we can tell a 5min google search was done to make this work. it also attempts to make her seem capable with her hatchet she likes to throw around, but because its so bs... they basically skip showing the entire process and skip to her just having become a skilled hunter just like that and over the span of what appears to be just a few hours... i could be wrong, but its clearly been edited/cut... because if they showed it... it would have looked total bs with distinct star wars vibes...(still got them anyways) but regardless still ends up looking total bs by the movies end and a total fraud in victory. so when people who otherwise had common sense for previous films, start praising this one... specially allot the prominent channels, makes me wonder if people got sponsored to be less critical of the film... though as smaller channels/critics many are the same... i guess folks are just stupid or desperate for a fix is all and i only touched on the problems with this movie, the list is actually rather long.
Finally saw this for the first time after 2 years and found this movie to be pretty good overall, honestly the best one since the first, but I do have a couple minor gripes. I didn't really like the Predator's CGI face when his mask came off. Just looked more "weird" than an already weird looking alien creature lol. I also thought there were some power scaling issues and inconsistencies for the Predator itself too. For example, I feel like seeing the predator go from beating the shit out of a grizzly bear to getting the shit beaten out of him by a teenage girl kinda breaks the power scaling. Or how it walked into the bear trap once, or how a wolf managed to injure it, or when it didn't see the main girl. I don't know, maybe this is a younger, more inexperienced Predator. That would be the only theory that I could see for explaining why he was mega bad ass in some scenes, but then a little more feable and weak in others. I thought the film was really good overall though
I loved this movie, it was done really, really well. I only have a few problems with the technology of this predator, more specifically 2. This predator was able to walk in water without the camouflage spazzing out, if this is set way in the past it wouldn’t make sense that the camo would get worse in the future. Secondly how was the predator able to see through the blood? Wouldn’t the blood coat the visor and blur it because it’s also warm? It doesn’t really make too much sense to me but that’s about it. Other than the little flaws it’s a phenomenal movie that will be one of my favorite predator movies out there.
my theory is that the camo is a different technology in this film compared to the others because in this movie it shorts out from the smoke which doesn't happen in the others its not like he isnt using different technology to begin with
Like the red instead of blue/cyan, the rest of his tech is something I don't consider to be unusual, the shield and the spear guns are what I'm sure an unblooded could get his hands on.
thats all? guess ur not a pred fan and probably never watched pred 1 and 2 then... predators have extremely tough skin/flesh... eg those primitive weapons cant slice and dice pred flesh... also predators are more intelligent then pre-historic ape man... and have better reflex's, so in hand to hand combat, unless they are giving their prey a chance to fight back = u dead. u know a 5 year old shouldnt be smarter then a predator, but in this case a retarded human child could probably still easily outsmart this predator in any competition of intelligence, infact im not sure which would win a ape or this predator in terms of intellect, even most animals learn faster then this guy and we already know predators are extremely fast learners... because their intelligent and more so then humans based of all the evidence, they make humans look dumb infact and their whole society revolves around the hunt. the only way arnie got the drop on the pred was fluke and because the pred was not aware arnie had discovered "partially" how its "one" vision works. the pred can see "detail" in thermal vision, hence it doesnt trip over jumping around thermal neutral environments... it can see the objects... only reason it didnt see arnie in the mud, was the same reason you might have had to look twice... he was blended in physically, not just thermally and since pred didnt realize, it had no reason to take a second look, naturally anyone would assume arnie would be running for his life if they hadnt known otherwise... or it would have noticed his outline. same arnie in the trees, it didnt know yet and arnie was motionless and did his best to "physically" blend in = the pred didnt see any movement, didnt hear any movement initially to alert it, though when arnie moved its clear the pred noticed something, but still didnt suspect arnie had thermal camouflage, when wildlife was abundant...and had its focus on the fire pit were it assumed arnie was waiting, that would have made its vision partially impaired as well. which is why it backfired, once the pred realized he couldnt see him thermally, so he started to shoot all over the place to force his movement in order to find him, were again arnie won out luck and its still not certain he had won as the pred committed suicide per their protocol, just like pred2 were the pred was very much capable fighting, but the situation made it unclear to the pred what injuries it might incur, so it activated the protocol. pred 2 they also thought they had the pred blind, but the instant the pred heard a sound, it realized something was a miss and unlike pred 1 who had been attacked and had to react immediately, this pred had the luxury of time to analyze its situation and started to scan its different vision modes, until it found them, but obviously it could have still tracked them the same was as in pred 1 if it needed. while PREY... yea this pred is dumb... really dumb and doesnt even follow the proper hunting code or hunting logic and instead they twist it and make the magic flower to try make it make some sense... yet for any pred fan = slap in the face... this is a movie made by people who dont know predator and probably never watched the first 2 movies and only read about them in a 5min google search. the list if issue with the pred are lengthy, also in regards to its mask, but enough typing for today.
If you read the comment that I posted, I was talking about the Predator technology not the plot armour or anything like that, there were a few other questions that I could've stated about the rest of the movie like how the Pistol isn't the same as it was in the comics
The original pistol prop from predator 2 could not be found, so a fan who had a replica for himself loaned it to the set. pretty cool touch oit of the producers to include this easter egg also. loved this movie
Before watching the video, just based off the title, I strongly disagree. I loved Prey, but Predator 1987 is the perfect formula for the predator. The problem with having one very obvious protagonist is that you know exactly how every fight is gonna go and how it's gonna end. The original Predator and Predators 2010 had you constantly on edge and wondering what would happen next, this movie was 100% predictable, enjoyable, but predictable.
I mostly agree with your comments, and the cinematography was that of a theatrical release. I did find Naru too "attractive" at times, but the Native American fight sequences we're believeable... they must really have been badasses in their day.
The natives were colonial Europes biggest enemy, they were the only ones to ever beat the United States millitary in a offense. America (the most powerfull army in the history of mankind) pretty much names every weapon they create after a Native tribe or weapon
I agree Naru had a hero's journey and she earned that kill, she could never fight and win she had to outsmart it to win and she had to learn that. Some people like Predator 2 more but I think Prey is better movie. First is lightening in a bottle and will never be topped... but I am one of the few who liked Predators with Adrien Brody but AVP was pure garbage fan service... as far as I am concerned the studio should have had a cinematic release and did this movie dirty. They obviously had no confidence and gave it to Hulu...HULU! not even Disney Plus...
It needed to go to streaming because the paycheck to do so gave the studio its money back and more. This is strictly after the failed The Predator. On top of that, it is rated R which limits its audience in theaters, so they would’ve been losing some bags of cash. All of this is under the umbrella of of the Disney/Fox merger as this film was in development hell since 2016. It wasn’t the studio doing dirty…it was the studio making sure this was successful no matter what.
I totally agree with you on Predators, it's incredibly underrated and better than Prey. Still, Prey was very good and what I consider to be a "worthy" Predator movie.
For me Prey is 3rd best film , right after 1st & 2nd and its just because i saw Predator 1 and 2 as a kid so it had more impact on me ... now iam older and more sceptic but that doesnt make Prey bad ... i was actually so suprised i had to watch Prey for the second time . And for AvPs films i like the first one but dont categorize them as a predator movie ...like predators showed us how to build and made our race progress ... thats whole different story for me . In Prey it was like Predator first time on earth and when you watch it with that in mind its just awesome :)
Predator 2 is absolutely horrible, I just watched it for the first time, it's horrendously boring and long-winded with a bunch of cardboard characters you don't care about, wasted a heck ton of time building irrelevant characters then kill them off. If anything, your nostalgia is the culprit here. I would put Prey at the same level as Predators 2010. My ranking for it: 1. Predator 2. Predators 2010 3. Prey 4. The Predator 2018 5. Predator 2
For the people who still isn’t satisfied how a little girl like Naru is able to take down the Predator in the end. By the time the feral Yautja took her as a serious threat, that thing has took hits from a wolf, bear, other Comanche, the French fur trappers and finally and most heavily from fighting Taabe. That thing was definitely not 100% when he was fighting Naru. Let’s also add in that she also got a head start with a point blank shot to the head, again using her wits to set that up
fr bruh why aint people talking about Naru shooting the predator at point blank making his bad decisions more believable. They're too deep on their anti woke movement
Where it fell apart for me was when she gets caught in the trap and proceeded to run full speed taking down 5 men without even breaking a sweat and a predator.
@@baconthegatewaymeat9131 she was already shown to have capable 1 on 1 experience against people. I mean look at how well she fought against the comanche warrior, while they can injure the predator in a 1v1. If she can't beat 5 frenchmen, then no way can she beat a predator
I just finished watching the movie, and I gotta say, I don't get the hype. It's a good movie, nothing more than that, and most of the time it doesn't feel like a predator movie at all. It's one of those movies where you want to yell at the screen, cause everyone is so stupid. Sadly, towards the end, this also covers the predator, that for what ever reason, seems to forget everything and just becomes one big punching bag. The original is still leaps and bounds better than this. It's not a bad movie, but it's not even great, and can't see why everyone seems to be saying that it is.
one thing to point out straight away, critical drinker called it "pay attention it will be important soon" (in a sarcastic manner). He was referring to film having logic, rules, and structure. and as you said she had time to "grow up". This growing-up process is how we actually learn and adapt, she was learning not only from her own mistakes but from others too, those lessons helped her to build tactics. she saw what worked and what not, learned about her enemy, then lured the predator into the territory she knew, it was her hunting grounds. she deserved this win. "pay attention it will be important soon", hell yeah you should pay attention and learn, survival is a learning game.
That's what I was thinking too
Not to mention all the pyramids that were build before 1719 and were shown as built for and with the guidance of predators in the previous movies.
@@osmanerdogdu7868 you can actually take the comics for a reference to it, they explain much more on how the first Predator arrived to earth and what was his first arrival like, and this movie in particular played a lot with what was considered canon in the comic's cause they have already explained the backstory of the Predator 2 movie's gun, and for the gun to appear here just changes a lot, and I mean A LOT of things, I'd much more like to think of this movie as a separate timeline from the original franchise, cause comic wise, even the AVP event's are canon to the series as they already have been shown multiple times through them
You're correct. It was THIS Predator's first time hunting on Earth.
I dont think that lore really matters, lets be honest. Only real nerds care about those details.
Also, for Powerscale things
It's hard to show how strong a character is, but when you see how helpless naru was to the bear, and how the bear got beaten to death by the predator bare handed, it shows that this guy is STRONG
I mean the bear also had him... The predator was down on the ground first.
thats only when its not fighting the main character, otherwise its about as strong as her, also its skin is about as soft as hers, probably even more soft id say and bones? not sure it had any considering how easily it got sliced and diced with primitive weapons...made that bear look pretty weak actually by comparison... must have been old and on its death bed with chipped teeth and claws.
probably was a alien blob imitating a pred and explains why it didnt know how to use the tech properly, had no intelligence and didnt know any of the pred rules/behaviour properly to follow and acted like a primitive ape man that simply came across a predators corpse and its weapons.

It's not a theory, the director confirmed it in an interview.
I had the same impression. It felt like a young Predator.
The predator really needed the cloaking device, without it active it was getting it's arse kicked.
And there are people out there going "She walked over the bodies of her dead brethern to claim her spot". Like...Did you not see the aftermath of Taabe's death? Taabe dying made the hunt more personal for Naru. She wasn't just hunting at that point, she was getting revenge.

Taabe became chieftain because he brought home the Lion which Naru wounded.
He returned the favor by wounding the Predator, stalling it and giving her the Chance to "bring home the kill" like he did before.
The Movie, its characters AND the Predator were badass!
Yes I love all the learning curves
Impressed at the bravery of the warriors throwing themselves recklessly at the predator, when it clearly outmatched all of them together. It seems that running away was not an option.

That's because she's a female. 🙄 So people were going to immediately call it "woke propaganda" from the get-go. The lore hasn’t been altered. Naru & the group at one point we’re talking about how it looked like something in their folklore so they have had to come to earth a long time ago, just probably not this species
I loved the older tech the predator had, it made him feel more brutal especially with using the human axe, really enjoyed the story the only gripe I had was with the CGI bear something about it was off
the spear gun however was meant to be in the first movie instead of the plasma cutter though a wrist bow version of it is used in the sequel (after the gangsters hang that mafia boss) the pistol version in concrete jungle and rifle in the avp games 1 & 2

It was more of a movie monster than an actual character
@@MrChava54 The laugh was always really badass to me though. like a "It doesn't matter if you beat me, I'm still gonna kill you!" since they typically do that laugh before blowing everything up while denying their technology from other species.

The whole fighting the Yautja with bow and arrow thing never bothered me because I knew in the end it would not be a defining factor. In the end it has always been about defeating the Yautja with wits, planning, adapting and using your environments to your advantage. I was really curious to see how she would defeat the feral Predator and the actress playing Naru did a great job with her character.
One of the most dangerous forms of life shot itself and you were impressed. Good grief.
@@fluphybunny930 if you look closely the feral Predator was reckless and impulsive from the very start and that was his flaw which ultimately became his end. Perhaps it went over your head.
@@Philroq7 that part was funny, i just find it annoying on how she even got the mask off, she should have killed him with that shot, it went through his skull and tore the mask off, that could have been a fucking anticlimatic ending but atleast a semi credible one. even with the problem of "cold blood form eating a yellow petal" and how is the predator from P2 even have the fun if she has it?
so them using primitive weapons to slice and dice the pred like its flesh was made from butter, clearly showing it could be killed with just a few more swings from primitive tools made u think they would kill it some other way?
if the cgi department had no forgot the large amounts of blood from its wounds or that he would have picked up on its sound/movement naturally anyways... hell even pred 1 dudes did and billy did early on as well... yet the best hunter... blind, deaf and dumb stands their like a moron after owning the predator... why? so a moronic / inept girl can be the best and smartest fighter thats defeat it... well give her a day so star wars magic can do it thing first.
well true it was obvious what was intended from the start, but utterly pointless when the pred was clearly so weak to injury from primitive tools and didnt know how its own tech worked and had the intelligence comparable to ape man millions of years ago and acted much the same...
not as pred lore dictates they should act, behave, look or how their tech actually functions, basically they changed how the preds thermal vision works eg its not thermal vision anymore(though they do have several vision modes, including sound a motion, but the movie made it clear its thermal, yet did not apply it as thermal) and also changed how human biology works, so no longer accurate to real work humans or pred lore eg the girl would have been dead in order to reduce her thermal signature to the point it could not be detected anymore... all in order to make the ending happen with a weak girl, with no brains or real fighting ability explained made very evident in her frequent attempts of suicide and being generally dumb as all hell and generally inept at everything... how she was allowed to stay in the tribe or survived child hood being so stupid and suicidal is not explained.
@@Philroq7 Feral puts me in mind of the unblooded three (or at least the two that died) with his impulsiveness, recklessness and overconfidence which I loved.

NGL I was expecting prey to be some feminist bullet point script with a Mary Sue protagonist. I’m happy to be wrong
Feminists and beta males coming out in full force to defend this mediocre, ridiculous mess of a movie.

BTW, Aliens vs Predator is still very much canon in the Xenoverse, so the Yautja have been hunting on Earth for at-least several thousands of years.
the years are also off, grey back got the gun in 1718, prey takes place in 1719, so there is a problem there as greyback should already have the gun.

Prey is a very close 2nd to the OG Predator for me. It's like 1A and 1B.
I loved how the French trappers unload their muskets at this predator, to no effect, and then scramble to reload. The predator just stands there like "It's cool, I'll wait."
My theory about the pistol is that some predators come back, sh1t goes down, and Naruu gives Greyback the pistol as a trophy for helping *her*.

I agree 100%
True
This is what Woke Disney has done, convinced some fans that shit is good.
Agree the movie is different and engaging, but the ending was not good at all, few points:
1 - So is establish the Predator is strong and can knockout a bear, but when he smashes the girl to the ground full force, she stands up like nothing happened, even though previously she lost conscience for hours when she fall from the tree.

LMFAO! She is Wonder Woman. Naru was even in No Man’s Land with that battle in the war-torn landscape.
meanwhile Arnold, a mountain of a man and a special forces soldier gets slapped around and almost killed he land one hit and immediately regrets it, he had to use a clever trap, that also failed as the Predator race is super smart and saw straight through that shit, he only wins in the end by using the trap differently, bit of luck and bit of fast thinking. The other Native American characters might as well have been snapping their fingers, saying "You go Girl" ..."You got this". Sure, it follows a Predator in a different timeline, has some Easter eggs to the big 3 Predator films, however, no matter how bad ass a certain character is, a Predator can kill them. Overall, this was a pretty solid Predator movie, definitely one of the better ones (though admittedly that's not the highest bar to clear). My one real complaint is that Naru's plot armor got excessive in the final fight. I expect some level of plot armor for a protagonist fighting a Predator, but parts of that fight were hard to swallow (for instance, her getting choke-slammed and recovering fast enough to keep going).

and for me, there is only Predator and Prey!
I'm with you on this
Jesus save us... If the title isn't sarcasm I fear for your generation.
For real, standards are rock bottom now.
I loved it!!!!! Prey is the best. Amber did an excellent job acting and the story is inspiring. I recommend it. must watch.
BTW...your review is excellent too!
‘But there’s no way a 125 lb woman can take on a Predator. She’s not physically strong enough to fight one.’
That’s the whole point of the ‘Predator’ series.
"This is the best looking Predator movie to date"
I have a guess as to why that could be
I thought it was fair.
There were a couple of...things that I didn't like about it, but it was still nonetheless pretty good.
my sweet summer child :) joking aside, there are some anazinmg movies thatr you should check out, done from 1990-2010
@@ivanangeli really bro? Starting at 1990? You probably meant 1980
@@namegoeshere69 agreed :)
My first was sadly, the 2019 one.
I really enjoyed it, there's something slightly off with the CGI I can't put my finger on but I'm willing to let that go but I do think you saw to much of the Predator un-cloaked in broad daylight, it's like seeing Batman on the beach, it's just not right
You're annoying lol
Yeah. The practical shots are amazing. It’s beautifully filmed and then the cgi is kinda shitty.
I’m not entirely sure how cgi vs practical budgets differ. But a few really good close up models has to be cheaper than a ton of out of focus “monster” looks.
The bear especially. Lol
I think the predator lost it's footing when she was on top of him....and the whole sheild thing, well i guess you can say that the rocks just blocked it.
predator could've killed her like 4 times

Lol 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I don't believe that after the last Predator movie's disaster Disney will let the franchise ever get into the cinemas again.
Bro like how tf did Xenomorphs get created in the future but the Preds fought them on the Aztec temples ?
That movie was not canon.
@@mike595 I love canons 😲
The Pirámid under the ice its at least 2000-3000 bc
You beat Predators by outsmarting them, and thats a beat we can all dance too
It’s not predators first time on earth, it’s THIS predators first time on earth. He is supposed to be a young hunter.
Yeah! And to piggyback off of your explanation. Its this species of Predator. The "Feral" Predator's 1st time on earth
It's an good movie. Use the word "Perfect" it's too much for me. But ok, in my opinion, this movie is 6/10.
Same here, I watched it on my phone lol, kept thinking how much better it would be on the big screen with those amazing landscape shots
@@nodsib hell yeah. Even on a phone, the picture is amazing. I'm going to hook it up to a projector with a sound system, so I hope that simulates a theater atmosphere 😁
😂😂😂😂 this man really watched the O.G predator & said prey could rival the original film
Me too
Oh yeah. totally realistic the way she beat 4 armed french trappers in melee. With a stone hatchet.... Yep. Nothing weird to see here.

Prey is up there with the original Predator and Predator 2!
The three together make the perfect Predator Trilogy! The flintlock call back at the end closed the loop for the three movies amazingly.
Lmao what? The flint was giving to DG in movie 2, meaning at some point the Preds came back to kill her and take it randomly..?
The first one will always be my Favorite predator movie, aliens versus predator would be the second favorite, Pray as my third,
Prey is not Perfect by no stretch of the imagination, but I will admit it a pretty damn good movie and a good entry in the Predator movie universe.
it's not the predator's first time on earth as a species, just this particular one
Damn bro your this hurt over a movie? lmao 😂
Other than the little flaws it’s a phenomenal movie that will be one of my favorite predator movies out there.
my theory is that the camo is a different technology in this film compared to the others because in this movie it shorts out from the smoke which doesn't happen in the others
its not like he isnt using different technology to begin with
Like the red instead of blue/cyan, the rest of his tech is something I don't consider to be unusual, the shield and the spear guns are what I'm sure an unblooded could get his hands on.
thats all? guess ur not a pred fan and probably never watched pred 1 and 2 then...
predators have extremely tough skin/flesh... eg those primitive weapons cant slice and dice pred flesh... also predators are more intelligent then pre-historic ape man... and have better reflex's, so in hand to hand combat, unless they are giving their prey a chance to fight back = u dead.
u know a 5 year old shouldnt be smarter then a predator, but in this case a retarded human child could probably still easily outsmart this predator in any competition of intelligence, infact im not sure which would win a ape or this predator in terms of intellect, even most animals learn faster then this guy and we already know predators are extremely fast learners... because their intelligent and more so then humans based of all the evidence, they make humans look dumb infact and their whole society revolves around the hunt.
the only way arnie got the drop on the pred was fluke and because the pred was not aware arnie had discovered "partially" how its "one" vision works.
the pred can see "detail" in thermal vision, hence it doesnt trip over jumping around thermal neutral environments... it can see the objects... only reason it didnt see arnie in the mud, was the same reason you might have had to look twice... he was blended in physically, not just thermally and since pred didnt realize, it had no reason to take a second look, naturally anyone would assume arnie would be running for his life if they hadnt known otherwise... or it would have noticed his outline.
same arnie in the trees, it didnt know yet and arnie was motionless and did his best to "physically" blend in = the pred didnt see any movement, didnt hear any movement initially to alert it, though when arnie moved its clear the pred noticed something, but still didnt suspect arnie had thermal camouflage, when wildlife was abundant...and had its focus on the fire pit were it assumed arnie was waiting, that would have made its vision partially impaired as well.
which is why it backfired, once the pred realized he couldnt see him thermally, so he started to shoot all over the place to force his movement in order to find him, were again arnie won out luck and its still not certain he had won as the pred committed suicide per their protocol, just like pred2 were the pred was very much capable fighting, but the situation made it unclear to the pred what injuries it might incur, so it activated the protocol.
pred 2 they also thought they had the pred blind, but the instant the pred heard a sound, it realized something was a miss and unlike pred 1 who had been attacked and had to react immediately, this pred had the luxury of time to analyze its situation and started to scan its different vision modes, until it found them, but obviously it could have still tracked them the same was as in pred 1 if it needed.
while PREY... yea this pred is dumb... really dumb and doesnt even follow the proper hunting code or hunting logic and instead they twist it and make the magic flower to try make it make some sense... yet for any pred fan = slap in the face... this is a movie made by people who dont know predator and probably never watched the first 2 movies and only read about them in a 5min google search.
the list if issue with the pred are lengthy, also in regards to its mask, but enough typing for today.
If you read the comment that I posted, I was talking about the Predator technology not the plot armour or anything like that, there were a few other questions that I could've stated about the rest of the movie like how the Pistol isn't the same as it was in the comics
The original pistol prop from predator 2 could not be found, so a fan who had a replica for himself loaned it to the set. pretty cool touch oit of the producers to include this easter egg also. loved this movie
the writer, the director and the cast really saved this franchise plus the predator is tank as hell without armour
Her tomahawk on a string is like a Wish version of Kratos' Leviathan Axe.
I loved that the guys from the tribe put up a decent fight.
Give me one memorable line from prey. You guys are over hyping this movie. I never seen anything like it. It was a good movie. But nothing special
It's on Disney+ for international release!
Watched it there

I totally agree with you on Predators, it's incredibly underrated and better than Prey. Still, Prey was very good and what I consider to be a "worthy" Predator movie.
Wasn't bad movie as such , but it didn't measure up to the first 2. 4th best Predator movie.
My ranking for it:
1. Predator
2. Predators 2010
3. Prey
4. The Predator 2018
A satisfying film...love to own a figure version of both Predator and Naru, looks bad-ass to display on a 1/6 scale.
Amen!
I want a prey diorama with forest and wild life too. This predator is fucking badass!
Oh also include Sarii the dog....
Keep an eye on Weta Workshop.
Neca is definitely making one, it will probably be 1/10 scale though.
