EDIT as of 19/10/2021: as of this morning - Jack Angel, the voice actor of Captain Star in this dub sadly passed away. A terrible loss to the voice acting community. I send my condolences to his family and friends.
Oh my God, so there's this guy who voiced Captain Star in the stillborn U.S. dub and he passed away today? That's awful. I bet all the TUGS fans are mourning for him and paying their respects however they can.
Probably my favourite part about this dub - the swap of the music during the scene of ten cents looking for sunshine. You can barely hear sunshine say “I’m sorry sir…” at the end of the scene. A callback that really feels like a punch in the gut! - some of this feels better than the UK dub in places..
Honestly, I think the most fascinating thing about this dub is not only that it's a thing, but that they managed to get notable people to voice in this
I actually really like this dub. Of course it's a far cry from the original UK but I like how different it is. I feel like they looked at the idea of bringing Tugs to the US at the exact opposite way as Salty's Lighthouse looked at it. Instead of making it more tame they gave it more of an edge. A lot of the dialogue and delivery definitely seems to have been adjusted for an older audience. I think if they adjusted a few of the voices it could have worked seem success in the US. Especially looking at what was popular on TV at the time
I personally can’t take this dub as seriously as the UK dub. The original as taken a bit more seriously, with the characters speaking a bit more… calmly? Whatever the case, they kinda fit the voices more. Not to say this dub is. Personally, it’s actually almost funnier. Izzy Gomez especially. Unlike the original where he’s just “Hey, you guys… I need a tow.” And here, over-the-top. Quite hilarious, the whole thing.
We’ve finally found out what heaven looks like. In all seriousness, it is so surreal to see this after so long. Even after 33 years we’re still getting old but new stuff that would’ve been lost to time if it wasn’t for this amazing community.
Holy moly this is quite the watching experience. It’s so strange hearing a different dub that’s of comparable quality to the UK one and yet sounds so different. Hercules is the only character who I significantly prefer the UK dub of, but overall I still think I prefer the UK dub to the us one, likely because I’m so used to it. Thanks so much for this, it’s incredibly exciting to see (and hear)!
So this is the fabled TUGS USA dub? I gotta say, it’s pretty good! Better than that nonsense Salty’s Lighthouse version we got here? I have to say, the Bronx/Brooklyn/Jersey accents definitely fit the setting and mood, definitely gives it an “on the waterfront” feel! Well done! Thanks for letting this see the light of day!
Until today (or maybe I heard about it somewhere before), I had no idea there was an actual US dub. I only knew about the Canadian dub for Salty's Lighthouse.
That's Charlie Adler who voices Sunshine in this us dub the same guy who did the voice of Buster Bunny in Tiny Toons Whiskers in Brandy and Mr Whiskers Starscream in the live action Transformers movies and Snivley in Sonic Satam
The fact that they dubbed the 20 minute cut makes me wonder -- would they have used the 20 minute cuts to dub the remaining eps? It'd fill a thirty minute timeslots in the US with ads Also - Izzy sounds vaguely like Hush Puppy from Shari Lewis lol
Holy shit. Given the Star Tugs Trust’s track record, I can’t believe that they’ve actually shown this to the public. This is a big W for the TUGS community! One thing I like about this dub is how Izzy has dialogue when he sees Zorran sabotage the Stars… not sure how I feel about his voice, though lmao. I also like how flustered Hercules sounds when Ten Cents sees him with Lillie. The music change in the scene where Sunshine hides from Ten Cents makes it sound more sad than eerie. I kinda like that. It’s great that we’ve finally gotten a taste as to what this sounds like, but I think I prefer the original dub.

Glad to see this relic surface. Though I must say Hercules' redub bothers me the most. His suave voice from the original dub did by far the most justice to his character. Though I did kind of like how they made the scene with Lillie all the more awkward.
Honestly I wish this got picked up. Sure, this cast dosen't have all the charm and feel of the OG Tugs cast, but they've got a unique (and certainly faster) energy and dynamic that's equally enjoyable to watch. Only thing that didn't work for me was the weird edits in the music, and some of the Zed-Stack's voices could be kind of indistinguishable at times. Also, everyone laughing at Izzy's "Mr. Funny Man" remark was great lol
I'll admit, I do like that we found the dub, however I feel like it turned out not as good as I thought it would be honestly, like the only voices I liked in this dub were the voices of Ten Cents, O.J., Lillie, Sally, Captain Star and Zero Yeah... unlike Thomas where I have sticked with the US dub, I'm sticking with Tugs' UK dub, always
Yeah, I agree with this. I really didn't like how they did Hercules voice in the first bit I'm listening too. Heck even Ten Cents sounds a bit to old for my liking. But they really missed the mark on the cool, calm, and collected voice Hercules has.
That was always something unique about the original show in my opinion despite the fact the show takes place in America during the 1920s they all have British accents
I gotta say, I kinda like this dub! Sure, I prefer the original, but that’s what everyone’s used to. Admittedly, some of the voices can be a little inconsistent, but I think it’s important to remember that this was a pitch pilot for the studio. If the series has been picked up for a full U.S. dub, I think the voice actors would’ve gotten more time to settle into their roles. Even so, the VA’s here are really putting in a lot of effort into the characters. Top Hat, Izzy, Zorran, and Captain Zero are my favorite voices from this dub, what are yours?

So this is it! I'm impressed and disappointed at the same time but still overjoyed that it is out to the public eye and ear! Top Hat and Zak's voices are inconsistent. Ten Cents' Brooklyn accent is the best voice in This! O.J. has a decent voice too as does Lillie and Sally. Sunshine's voice could be a little younger but still sounds perfect in some scenes. Apparently the rumors are true of Warrior sounding like Goofy which doesn't bother me that much except that he, along with Izzy Gomez, Hercules and Big Mac seem to talk too fast. Big Mac's voice needs some confidence or energy to it. Captain Star's voice is tolerable but I think it could be better in some way. The same goes to Captain Zero. Zip and Zug's voices are acceptable too but Zorran's really lacks. I'm very intrigued on how different the dialogue is from the British dub that we all know and love. It makes me wonder what the actual script was like word for word. The sound effects are annoying as the wheezy whistle that is heard consistently throughout the video doesn't help distinguish who is who and some of the other Hooters and engines sound like Diesel horns. I think it's safe to say that the US dub is only slightly better than Salty's Lighthouse as it has numerous problems. I think I still prefer the UK dub but honestly I think I'll now have a hard time choosing between Cockney Ten Cents and Brooklyn Ten Cents. This has been out only less the 24 hours and Brooklyn Ten Cents will not leave me alone!
I prefer the U.K. dubs any day, but that Captain Zero voice is just hilarious. Seriously, THIS should’ve been another character in the show. In fact, everything would’ve. All the voices here could’ve played other characters. Such a shame the show didn’t last long, we could’ve seen way more characters in the harbour, which is saying something considering the amount already there.
I must say, this was pretty good. And while it's a shame the US never got Tugs, the one from the UK was still pretty good, even if it's a bit outdated.
Being completely honest, this dub is way better than the UK dub. It actually fits the East Coast US feel the show was going for, and all the voices fit the characters really well. I particularly liked Sunshine’s voice actor in this. It also really improved a scene I despised in the UK version, which was the scene where Ten Cents is looking for Sunshine. It felt so much less annoying and obnoxious. In fact, it made the whole episode so much better. I’ve believed for a long time that this episode is one of the worst introductions to a show I’ve ever seen, but this dub made it at least watchable. The US feel for this show works so well and I wish we had the rest of the show like this. I feel like people only prefer the UK dub because it’s what they’re used to. If we got the whole show in the US dub, the UK dub would sound so weird to people, I guarantee it.

This has been out only less the 24 hours and Brooklyn Ten Cents will not leave me alone!
ten cents sound like scout from TF2 lol
I prefer the U.K. dubs any day, but that Captain Zero voice is just hilarious.
Seriously, THIS should’ve been another character in the show. In fact, everything would’ve.
All the voices here could’ve played other characters.
Such a shame the show didn’t last long, we could’ve seen way more characters in the harbour, which is saying something considering the amount already there.
If this show continued we would have probably been into CGI by now but it might have done far better the most of the thomas cgi series did tbh here
HiT Entertainment had the idea of rebooting Tugs in cgi back in 2009, but this never materialised.
@@joshuaW5621 Proof?
@@Jeisr4207-bc5ui I remember reading it off the Tugs wiki. This could be fake though so take what I said with a grain of salt.
I like the voice used for TenCents
2:16 Where it starts
I must say, this was pretty good. And while it's a shame the US never got Tugs, the one from the UK was still pretty good, even if it's a bit outdated.
Ten Cents having a Boston/New York accent is hilarious!
NOOOO WAYYY
Rob Paulsen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did Ten Cents just say Jesus?
How did you get this my guy!?
Astrotrain runs a tugboat company...
Man, I wish we had this instead of Salty's Lighthouse.
As with the American setting
Believe that's Michael Bell who did the voice for Captain Star in this Dub
