    These games really highlight why tricky gambits are so popular. With Eric committing to sound, solid chess for instructive purposes, a lot of opponents at this level are maintaining good positions deep into the middle game. I suspect Eric could shred most of these players in 15 moves with his more dubious repertoire.

    • @vitorrodriguez4278
      @vitorrodriguez4278 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      once you see the point it loses the "complexity". The thing is, in a normal game, you would never think of playing such move.
      Even you thought about the Nxf7 move, you would likely be looking for tactics to win a piece or unleash an attack on the king, which there really isn't after Rxf7, not immediatly at least, and most people would probably stop the calculation there thinking it doesnt work.
      To find Ng5 after Nxf7, you really gotta be on another level of pattern recognition, very beautiful sequence

      @@vitorrodriguez4278 I don’t know if I’d say it loses the complexity…not saying I saw these moves, but the engine recommends this type of knight sac on f7 fairly often, in complicated positions like these, probably a move I need to consider more often

      @eric-rosen  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was envisioning my f-rook going to e1 as the e-file is half open for white and it could be useful in supporting the knights. I also thought that there might be cases where my bishop ends up dropping back to c2 and b1, and I didn't want my rook on a1 to get stuck. Eric could you please point out why it is important to play h6 to kick off the white’s bishop. I came across that move in some mainlines of QGD like structures as well as in your second game in this episode. But I don’t fully grasp the importance. For instance in your case you could have seemingly played a5 right away, but instead you also followed that rule of a6. I would appreciate some clarification. I am 1900+

    • @eric-rosen
      @eric-rosen  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question! Here are my thoughts...
      h6 is generally a useful move to include, as it provokes white's bishop to commit to the kingside (usually to h4) and creates some air for the black king. Generally, it's not great for white to trade on f6, but this always something to consider before playing h6. Assuming the bishop commits to h4, this give black the flexibility to consider g5 with tempo in future positions. It's not always super important (like the positions featured in this video), but there's usually very little downside to including h6 in these QGD structures. The reason why I don't play it sooner is because if I can get a Cambridge Springs, the bishop can be a tactical target with Qa5 and Ne4 hitting g5.

    • @dmitrymashkov9379
      @dmitrymashkov9379 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@eric-rosen thank you for the detailed answer 😊. I am sometimes hesitant to throw in h6 when my other night might do a Spanish walk to g6 and assuming there is a battery on that diagonal I would not mind much to trade that knight for white’s other bishop. Therefore, h6 sort of rejects that possibility and commits to another approach. I appreciate your response! I wasn’t sure you had time to read through comments 😀

    Here's an idea. What about instead of including a selfie of you as 1/2 the thumbnail, you have AI generate a piece of artwork based on your title of the episode, adding chess pieces to the prompt of course. "For choice." You keep on using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.
