Hi Steve, the seat unit came from Meadspeed cost £150 plus P&P. There are cheaper SS900 seats out there for around £90, but they are just the basic fibreglass unit, with no upholstery or the unique zipped pouch. This one is the closest I could find to the original and was worth paying a bit more for.

Love what you've done so far, but If I were you, DON'T PAINT THE TANK ! Polished alloy tanks are the epitome of cafe racers. That's how it should be.

I want be able to buy the new rims / spokes till mid July, then I'll make a video showing how to lace and true the wheels. Before then should be getting some chrome parts back soon.. its been 6 weeks now... and got a couple of parts being machined at the moment. As for the tank, recently seen a photo of a bike with a similar tank to mine which was painted but for the knee cut outs which were left polished. May go for that option...

@@Merch131ho I am looking at so many videos I forget to see when they were made. Any suggestions on content . My first custom project is a Mark 5 into custom and I have a question about seat height and suspension travel. If you flatten the seat to the rails will the rear bottom out on the underside where the mudguard will be Its barely 4inches or less to the top of the tyre .

@@guzziryder6566 My bike doesnt have standard rear guard The seat sits a little off the seat rails, not so much for tyre clearance but for comfort. The last vid I made on the Guzzi shows how it fits. My rear shocks were built for me and are longer than standard. If you click on playlists, there is a playlist of the Guzzi build.. If yr shocks have less than 4 inches of travel the tyre will be ok.

    Hi Bevel Head,
Just wondering which tarozzi rear sets part# you used on this build .....
    There’s a mind blowing array out there😬

Not sure of the part number (could look it up later), but I got mine from the Guzzi specialist Gutsibits. They offer a few different kits, depending on model, and finish (black or silver) and with rubber or knurled pegs etc. But in terms of fitment, I would think that all the Tonti framed models would be v similar.

    Hi Bevel Head,
I've really been enjoying the Guzzi build and am planning one of my own before to long.
The research I've done hasn't revealed how tough/easy it is to setup the tarrozi rearsets on a Guzzi - can you give a steer ?
Also, the alloy tank on your bike is really cool shape and looks great - may I ask were you got it from ?
    Thanks and BW

They just bolt on to the std frame mounts, very simple. I didn't have the linkage to the gearbox, as the bike was incomplete, but bought a used one online. If you have a std Guzzi you should have this anyway. I had to make a link rod on the brake side, again because I didn't have the std Guzzi part. Only small issue I had was that the mounting holes in the Tarozzis were bigger than the holes in the frame. Would've fitted anyway, but I made some top hat spacers so I could use M10 not M12 bolts.

Had it made by TAB II in Wales. If you google them, they have a website. (TAB stands for T.A.Baker btw). Mine is a longer than standard Endurance racing version, with a Monza cap, but you get a choice of a flush fitting Aero cap too.

Hi Bevel Head - I've been following with interest as I am looking forward to a first Café Racer project. Forgive me for my ignorance of Guzzi model differences, but you mention the motor vs. the Le Mans - do you know are the internals identical between the Le Mans 1000s and the California or do they have different heads, and what about the carbs? Thanks

    • @Merch131ho
      @Merch131ho  8 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Alex, The Le Mans is essentially the same engine as the Cali, but with some differences which give it more power. Those differences are in the size of the carbs (Lemans have 36mm Vs Cali has 30mm), the cam and the heads. I don't have the specs to hand, but I think the LM has bigger valves and ports. All these differences are fairly simple to change (but not cheap) to LM spec if you want more power.

Yes, though they are called TAB2 these days. This one is the longer of the two they make for Guzzi.
