I was living in Rome when these motorbikes were produced ..... Needless to say I loved those days. Classic Italian cars everywhere and astonishing bikes. Laverda, Benelli, Moto-Morini and Duatis had many more clever and smaller bikes though. These may be the better known high end ones that everybody has heard about, but there were so many more.

    Wow!
For me the original Ducati 750SS Desmo is one of the most beautiful bikes ever. Paul Smart and Cook Neilson showed how fast they were too. The early 900 Desmo and 750 Sport are up there as well. I have always been smitten by the Mk1 Guzzi LeMans, lovely lean thing with poise and aggressive stance.
I had two Mk2 Guzzi LeMans over the years, a Ducati 250 Desmo back in 1979, a Ducati 860GT and latterly a Ducati 748. Always fancied a Benelli 750 six.
I’m not big enough for a Jota, but I was friends with the Laverda Owners Club and got to ride out with a great formation of the things a couple of times…forty or so of those with the taps open is quite an experience!

What a great list - saved the best 'til last!
Went from learning on an early air cooled RD250 - to a Le Mans MkII.
Was very fortunate to also have had a couple of Monzas, a Lario and later a V7, but you can't beat the note from the 850 with a set of Lafranconis - absolutely sublime.

Yes I owned a Ducati 900 Darmah, modified with twin spot fairing, it was as fast as my friends 900SS at lest touring very fast across Europe. Rode my friends Laverda Jota, magnificent Beast, very high centre of gravity, the guys that won races on these were heros. Prefer the Ducati. Rode another friends Gussi Le mans, Nice but felt soft. My real favorite Gussi was the V7 750, in black with diagonal red stripe, so beutiful. The MV, I never rode one but in the 80s I was looking for a bike, and there was one second hand in the local shop. Stunningly beutiful, all the mystique. I should have bought it BUT £3000 (if my memory is good) I was Mr Sensible', for the same money I bought the first of the VF1000 Hondas (another Story, no regrets). Now the Benelli, beutiful, saw the pictures, but so rare, I don't think I ever saw one in real life.
