Miss this game so much I remember playing GT3 for the first time as a kid and could not believe how real it looked. The graphical jump from GT1/2 to 3 was just insane. To see it looking so sharp 20 years later does not surprise me - this is prime Polyphony Digital setting the bar for the era.

@@juanignacioaschura9437 True if you have the sensitivity set to 0, but there’s a bug that’s been in the game since launch that you have to change the sensitivity again every time you load up the game, or it resets back to stiff cam, even though the sensitivity slider is still at 0, and they don’t seem to have any desire to fix it
GT4's chase cam was actually not bad IMO. Agree that GT5 onwards totally ruined it though. Feels so sterile. Cockpit view in GT Sport is at least animated enough that it makes up for it.
I would say that due to the lack of the granular "filter" or whatever they is used on GT4 for example, that GT3 looks better than GT4 because the image (at least to me) is clearer and more crisp. Keep up the fun content.

I played it a lot growing up in the early 2000's on my PS2. I've recently dived more into the world of PC gaming. I'm so happy that we can play our beloved childhood games in higher quality now

I to an extend collect racing games on different platform (ps1, ps2, ps3, ps4, psp, xbox, xbox 360, pc), not for the sake of collecting, but because i enjoy playing them - no doubt Gran Turismo 3 has to be in my top 3 most often played (GT2 i play even more often, and then maybe Enthusia Professional Racing, or Project Cars 2). Incredible game, aged like a fine wine both gameplay wise but also visually, because it's very clear and it runs great, and then the visual style is so great that this game just looks so pleasnt :)
Jumping from GT1 to this era like GT3 and GT4 was huge. Last big Jump was on PS3 on GT5 . Then only there are better detailed GT games. Just my opinion . Who agree ? like.
GT7 is good but it doesn’t have that ahead of its time type of feel like GT3. My only gripe about GT7 is the Camera angle isn’t really close and some of the tracks are a little forgetful.
I’d argue it looks amazing as was. Then again, I do have a bias considering I grew up with a PS2, and the fact it looks good on a genuine example is even more mind boggling considering it came out *over 20 years ago.* God I’m old.
It doesn't look this crisp on a PS2 though, this is played using an emulator on PC, the output is far higher than what PS2 outputs, the game is much darker visually coming from the actual console, and things have a slight fuzzy look, I still own a PS2 and can tell you that a lot of these games were not made to be on LCD screens, GT4 in the other hand tried with it's 1080i output.

The "fuzzy look" more than often comes from interlacing (hence the "i" in 1080i); games that used interlacing also often had massive motion blur, to hide the interlacing. Still, its surprising how friggin good GT3 looks, especially in terms of color accuracy. FYI: interlacing wasnt so problematic on CRTs, due to the way they worked.
However this is PSCX, the game is still the same. There is no HD Textre mod or anything else. GT3 was amazing. So many games have shit like popping up objects on the horizon (or later) or trees getting extra leaves when you get closer. And no stupid useless effects and filters that look nice but are completely unrealistic. They tried to make a good looking game and they did. Plus even on the PS2 version, back then you would play on a rather small CRT TV and the resolution would be no problem! Sure this looks bad on a huge HD flatscreen today. But back then it would almost look like watching a race on television, that was amazing.
I remember I first played this game at an uncle's house who had a $8,000 plasma (these days you could probably pick up the same one for $1,000) with the PS2 hooked up. I picked a rally stage and when I first saw those dust effects my jaw dropped. It was unlike anything else at the time. This was one of the first games you could play and people watching would say that it looked like real life.
The graphics in this game blew my mind when I was a kid. They amazed me so much that I actually never looked back to Nintendo nor ever wanted a Nintendo console ever again.
GT3 is still for me the most graphically impressive game, for the time... Current gen is impressive but I still don't feel as blown away as when GT3 first released.
on crt tv it looks just as good with original hardware (i mean ps2) - my favourite looking game off all time along with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and GRID (for me never might but doesn't need to mean better - visuals are subjective thing, and for me gt3 looks just so crisp and so pleasnt, and stylish). Also one of the best racing games ever :) Probably my most often replayed racing game along with GT2
Forza is a mess , still don’t simulate 900c steering lock , the dash lights don’t simulate to headlights , for eg if headlights are off the dash is still lit as if they were on .. i have a pc and i myself firmly state gran turismo is a better sim by far

For some reason in the night tracks rarely the lights starts to flicker a bit, both in the track and the cars. It doesnt happen in software mode, only in the other ones.
7:30 The rim texture is misaligned with the wheel model, so it looks really off putting when it's spinning in motion. This is a known bug in GT3 and GT Concept, do you know if there is a fix for this?

I was using custom internal res during the first clip but fixed it later as seen in the Smokey mountain and Tahiti circuit clips. Took me hours to figure it out 🥴
It was one of the reason why i want ps2 so bad. The graphics was wonderful even sometimes better than GT4 which was tend to be more pale and realistic while GT3 looks a lil bit colorful for me and more HD.
Gt4 with gt3’s color palette would be awesome. It seems that they went for a more muted style which is more realistic however I prefer gt3, specifically the skyboxes. Although some parts of gt4 has amazing lighting like Hong Kong and Vegas. That is the most like gt3 I’d say
You're only going off this video, the game doesn't look this clean on a PS2, just letting you know right now. At almost no point does it ever look better than GT4 running on the same console. This is emulated and outputted at base resolution the PS2 never outputted the game at. It's far brighter than the actual game in the console as well, you'll be very disappointed to run on a PS2 and don't see visuals that look like this video.

I was playing on old CRT philips flat TV back then with standard resolution and i still remembered GT3 was more vibrant in terms of color but GT4 won at reality factors and effects. I don't know, maybe it was because a significant upscaled resolution from GT2 so GT3 felt a huge leap, compared to GT3 to GT4 which was only an evolution

Gran Turismo psp has a very similar chase cam. But I must be in the minority as I prefer gt4 onwards

I think it was changed to stiff from GT4 onwards for wheel users. Driving with a loose chase cam with the wheel is super confusing

GT4 looks better, look at the comparison of cote de azur on pc, GT4 clearly has more detail but GT3 is a little brighter and more colourful.
The GT3 chase camera was the best out of all the GT games, I hate the stiff tight chase cam from other racing games even AC.
At least with GT Sport and soon on GT7. You can fiddle with the camera settings to get this exact 3rd person dynamic camera

the game looks better then most- even the models look the perfect amount of detailed, no so much it hurts performance but enough it looks proper
