Thanks, Matt - really excellent reminders on the 3 keys!! I always do end up rushing, maybe because I used to take a two hour class every week and always wanted it done each week. I've since learned to slow down, and take the time I need. The 3rd key is important for me, too - I have started to take a break between the 2nd wash and the 3rd. The Darks always go in better if I come back to the painting fresh, reviewing where I've been, checking the value studies, the sketches, my notes, and coming at it with that fresh, awake eye. It's when I get tired I start to over work it.
Your style really reminds me of Sargent. You take a lot of inspiration from his watercolors, huh? By the way, thank you for being so consistent Matthew! I really enjoy your vids. They give me new perspective on my techniques! Keep at it mate.
Thank you for your advice. I’m definitely guilty of not waiting for the paint to dry before moving on to the next stay. Some times I do but not often enough. It’s a lesson I need to practice!

Great tips...love seeing the various stages at their completion and hearing your rationale the initial, middle, and final washes.
