Unquestionably the best street racing of all time. Forza Horizon is great for being an Open World, but Project Gotham gave us the actual streets you can drive on.
PGR4 is my favourite racing game of all time. It's driving model is (in my humble opinion) the best arcade driving model ever created. Cars are easy to drive and it's easy to recover from mistakes but they drive very naturally at the same time. Something modern arcade racers cannot achieve for some reason. Graphics had huge "wow" factor when this game was released and it is still impressive today. Weather (even tho not as complex and dynamic as in modern sims) is both visually and mechanically more impressive than in most of contemporary racing games and beats almost anything new in simcade/arcade territory. I would love remake so much... I really wish at some point in time we will get PC remaster. Or at least spiritual successor with almost identical physics...
Well said. Even as mostly a sim racer, I loved the pgr series. Driving is very fun and has a great feel to it, even though grip levels are very high being an arcade game, the physics still feels very natural and behaves realistically but with more grip. To drive fast you still need to take the same lines you would in a sim racer, but it is more forgiving. It's an arcade racer but very grounded and realistic, no nitro boost or powerups, just pure fun arcadish racing with some of the best engine sounds ever. We don't really get games like this anymore. I played this and pgr2 to death, and still so when I have the time
Thanks i never knew how to explain why the driving physics of PGR4 feel so good and i am glad i am not the only one... whilst beeing "arcade" and much much easier and more enjoyable to drive then in simulations it still has relatively realistic / natural physics and isnt completely over the top
These games will always be timeless. I remember buying PGR4 just a week after I got Halo 3 at a midnight launch. I put so many hours in both of those games. The nostalgia I feel looking back on those times is overwhelming.
@@Alexp37 don't know about that but i did like pgr3 personally. i actually can't remember much about pgr2, it's been way too long since i played it. i still have pgr 2,3 & 4..........damn wish MS made these games playable on xbox 1 & series X.
2007? Didn't realise it was that early, as I didn't get round to playing it until several years later. Still looks fantastic. Diminishing returns indeed. I think the closest thing after this was Driveclub, which had a rocky launch but ended up being excellent.
I was always going between Forza and PGR. Both games were definitely a lot of fun, but I think I played PGR just a little more. From the 1st to 4th, #4 was the best! It was my 1st online experience and I won a couple races. It really was an enjoyable time with this, Forza 2, 3 and 4, Halo 3 and 4 and tons more! Thanks for bring back some nostalgia, subscribed!
Ah, so glad you think PGR4 is the best in the series. It's still one of my favorite racing games ever and of all the games from that generations (and older) I would LOVE to see a PGR4 remaster. I know how unlikely it is, but one can dream right?
1 of my favorite racing game series of all time ! wish they would revive this series & no don't say it's already part of the horizon series since part of the team is now there.
LOVED this series. PGR2 & PGR4 were my favorites. But I also really enjoyed 3 as a 360 launch title. Wish they could find a way to bring this series back, or a reboot, rework...whatever it may be. These games were so great online. And the kudos system was fantastic.
I think if the game had a remaster, all that would be needed to be done would be to add global illumination, and up the resolution. The detail in the building and the cars themselves are already fantastic. Even today..
Kinda shame that this series was abandoned. With enough effort and investments Xbox and PC would be able to get their own "Gran Turismo" rival and force Gran Turismo series to evolve at least at some degree. Oh well, every platform got enough good alternatives from other more or less independent studios anyway, so I guess nobody really missed PGR.
@@J0rdan912 To be fair, I feel like PGR would have evolved into something very similar to the Horizon games by now. Maybe still more focused on recreating real life cities, but overall kinda same-ish.
@@Soonjai Nah I feel like Horizon are just doing a better job of executing what the Test Drive games were trying, but overall it's a very different kind of game.
Only thing I would say is the weather did not change in game. You would set the weather before starting the race. However, its been many years. I could be wrong.
My ranking for PGR: MSR: Great PGR1: Excellent PGR2: Disappointing entry, a chore to play PGR3: Excellent PGR4: Excellent The series had potential, took a nosedive in the middle, then redeemed itself having now played the 360 entries. PGR would have also been perfect on PC, I know it's supposed to be a console racer, but an awesome series like this not being on Microsoft Windows is a wasted opportunity, I loved to have it on PC so we don't have to always rely on consoles all the time. I would have to say that PGR3 and 4 are my favorite entries in the series! Here's hoping for a spiritual successor.
In PGR4 the textures were better but the lighting system was dumbed down to compensate. PGR3 will always be my favorite in the series because of the wow factor it was and still is. Best graphics(besides textures) best menu system, best car selection. PGR3 is in my top 20 racing games of all time.
💥💥 I still have my black Xbox 360 and I still got project Gotham racing 4 great game. I never played PGR 3 tho. I do remember going to GameStop getting project Gotham 2 and returning it like a week later I ain't like it as much as pgr 1 maybe I should've gave pgr 2 a little bit more of a chance. I use to play the heck out of the first Project Gotham racing.
Great review. The engine sounds in this game are still some of the best. I'll have some videos on this topic this month on my channel. Make sure to check them out :)
This is the only reason me, and all my friends, keep a 360 going. Nothing comes close for gameplay and playing with mates! Shame on Microsoft for not continuing us future PGR’s , or even giving us PGR4 as a backwards compatible!
i love the game but these visuals remind me of Driveclub - both early games, both so beautiful they were as good at the generation departure, both games are pretty even when compared to next generation offerings.
the original still remains my favouritt racing game ever, never gave 3&4 a big chance but i recently replayed the original cause i like it so much and i consider giving the 360 games a new chance.
this game still looks fantastic now, especially the rain & fog
agreed
Yes it does

I completely agree on the ranking of the PGR / Metropolis games. PGR 4 is a masterpiece of a racing game.
Nothing can beat PGR2 though

I think that Microsoft should release another game with the Forza Horizon 5 graphics. I think it was a boom in sales.
Great video. You did this game real justice. PG4 still remains one of my favourite racing games ever.
yea, aren't many games these days as fun as pgr series was back then
Shame Microsoft haven't acquired Bizarre. Although we got Blure and Bloodstone but Activision closed them. I would trade both for further PGRs.
Blur is a great one too, a shame that it wasn´t enough of a commercial success. Really enjoyed the Multiplayer of that back when it was still active.
Heard pretty much all the employees who made the PGR series work on Forza now
MSR, the game that started it all, was a remarkable technical achievement for the Dreamcast. The series is greatly missed. EDIT I even loved Blur.
best racing game ever made... why can't we have nice things anymore?
6:00 DeLorean going 88mph… nervously waiting for the flash ;-)
It was an actual achievement in the game

The most realistic buildings in a race game , specially in Macau , even GT7 on PS5 don’t beat it !

I see this game first time and already fell in love, a pity so much wonderful games are hidden on consoles as exclusives :(
Now we just need a Blur review !
I seem to have a massive driving game collection from ps 1 onwards and all genres from F1 to rally but I keep coming back to this game it's that good.
Great video for a great game. PGR4 was definitely a good sendoff for a series that ended too soon.

You're basically describing Forza which is the GT alternative.
For a while PGR was Xbox's second flagship racing franchise.
@@dennisdavidov782 Yep, that's what I'm talking about. It just feels like Motorsport games are not getting that much love and attention like Horizon.
