    Finding this channel convinced me to stay in my coding program, I am currently only a few chapters from completion now. I was so ready to give up, but watching you do what you do is so inspiring. Also, finding out that you did this on your own without a program, is such an inspiration. I am an introvert and really would love to get certified, work from home coding, without having to constantly be communicating by phone. That is so draining for me. I love researching, analyzing, and problem-solving. I currently work in a call center, from home, as a claims processor for a large insurance company. I have been doing this for the past 5 years. I don't care to share which carrier, although I may have said in the comments of one of your previous videos. I have a lot of insight into codes and coding, so I did not think coding would be that difficult but I was wrong. But now I am determined to get certified. Thank you for your in-depth explanations of codes and coding. I can't wait to work queues & code in peace from the comfort of my home, without someone yapping in my ear for 8 hours a day. Thank you for the inspiration!

      You’re so welcome! Thank you for supporting my channel! 🤗 That’s awesome! Definitely don’t give up now. Continue to push through and you’ll get that certification. I love those things about coding too!
      The more you practice the better you’ll be. It’s not something you can learn overnight. And there’s always code changes, guidelines changing, payer policies changing lol. My coworkers and I always laugh because it’s like we learn something new EVERYDAY! 😅
      You got this! 😁

      Good for you sticking it out! I'm in a very similar situation. I loved the problem solving and research part of my job over everything else. The company I work for transitioned to a call center early last year and it has been a nightmare since. The constant ringing of the phone was starting to give me anxiety. I fell into coding but working in healthcare/insurance, I was working on the back end of coding with confirming the codes and services are related to the diagnosis. With coding I'm on the front end giving those codes for those procedures and services. I didn't think it was going to be as complicated as it is! ICD 10 it's the rules and FINDING the codes that still gets me. I like coding procedures/CPT much more. I was hoping to take my test next month but there are no test scheduled until Feb.

      Mo Nique, same here! I do customer service for an inbound credit card call center for 5 years, been working remote for the duration of the pandemic... I'm sooo over taking the calls! Most callers are cordial, some are exceedingly lovely, but some are absolute dreadful people, and I wonder if they have children/hope they don't have children, because they'd be horrible for children to deal with. Thing is, I'm 47, and sick and tired of having to grin and bear it when callers are rude or nasty. I'm also mostly an introvert (and I rather enjoy it), and a self-proclaimed people-pleaser my whole life; it took me yearsss to learn to use my voice and stand up for myself and those I care about, but I'm not allowed to do the same when I'm on the clock for my job? I really can't stomach that. Besides, I'm also sick of hearing the sound of my own butt-kissing voice, "Good morning, thank you for calling --------, Melissa speaking. May I please have your --------------- number so I can bring up your account?" Over and over and over and over and over a million times a day, because we're now short-staffed the phone doesn't STOP once normal business hours hit.
      I love the idea of being able to do medical coding from basically anywhere. I know there will be phone conversations I have to have, but it will be a different sort of animal.

    You are another inspiring sister out here helping us have a better understanding of coding. I started out years ago trying to get my CPC. It took many tries, but I finally passed in February. Starting a remote/volunteer coding gig with a non profit to get some experience to show on my resume. I was so scared when I had to take the job coding proficiency test and passed 😆. I’m 16 almost 17 and considering this field. I like note-taking, I enjoy quiet time, but wow I did not know the codes change (after a year or so) and I would feel like I’m wasting time because I would have to take notes over and over and no one will relate to my kind of work.
    It’s definitely a field that requires much focus, effort, and patience! I will keep looking but thank you for your help!

    • @ShamyraC
      @ShamyraC  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All the codes don’t change annually. I’m still using a book from last year because the codes I use have not changed but they’ve added about 10 to the section I code in. They’re not deleting every code and creating new ones. Hope that makes sense. 😊 You’re welcome.

    Thank you for doing this! I just barely got certified (phew!), and I want to practice more real-world type scenarios. All the videos on TH-cam I find are for preparing to pass CPC (which was extremely helpful), but I understand it’s very different from on the job coding and I’d like more practice with that before interviews…no multiple choice at work lol.

    Is there a set number of “bills” you have to push through in a day?
    I heard mixed information about pay with this career, my buddy in Cali said he gets paid less than the warehouse job he was working but he prefers coding so he also works a part time to make ends meet but my buddy in Boston said she makes GREAT money,m. Is there a set minimum nationally or is it mixed throughout the US?

      Wage varies by state and the agency one is working for. I’m in Idaho and have just recently finished my program. There are agency’s that want to start one a the low end and others that are willing to do an increase with one that is just starting out. CBCS and CPC certification can also make a difference, or even the years worked in the field.
