Marvellous. Fascinating to hear a Spanish based orchestra play British music so well felt, down to the soul. Although that also says a lot of course about the music of Vaughan Williams which is absolutely brilliant.

Excellent. The slightly slower pacing really brings out Vaughan Williams wonderful orchestral color.

Ever since I heard the organ arrangement of the Lento being played in Ludlow, it has been my all time favourite piece, with Elgar's 'Nimrod' a close second. The Madrid Radio Orchestra did a wonderful job with this work.

Greetings and heartfelt thanks from London! You've no idea how it warms my heart to see people all around the world sharing in and enjoying this intimate portrait of my home. Of course, London today isn't exactly the same as London portrayed in RVW's symphony... but look closer... the city may be wearing different clothes today, but London's soul hasn't changed a bit. A city of contrasts; bustling trade, great beauty, nobility, mystery, all going on together under dreamy twilight. All of the world existing inside one city; the city that is awake and sleeping, loud and quiet, fast and slow, powerful and gentle. My friends, visit our city; London welcomes you with pride.

Gorgeous work, gorgeous city. Actually, RVW was already aware that the London of his youth was passing away as well, especially after WWI. The end of the scherzo and the cry of anguish at the beginning of the finale communicate that awareness. The music is already a memory.

Oh! How I wish this were true. The soul of London is now unrecognisable from this, V.W, time. It is now radically transformed and quite alien from that which V.W. so accurately portrayed.

@@plsignore3509 I really do not like London (I saw it for the first time in 1982. Perhaps that is why I do not warm to this particular symphony. I have myself composed a setting of Wordsworth's Composed upon Westminster Bridge, 3 September 1802.

Yes RVW deserves to be heard more often outside of the U.K. and U.S. where his works are quite regularly performed. I'm always torn between symphonies 5 and 8 as to which is his best but have to say that the final movement of No.5 is IMO one of the greatest symphonic movements ever written.

Excelente juego... full of confident power, great sound, very well judged. Overall, the players did great justice to the nostalgic English sound of the symphony. I'd love to hear this orchestra live, they really go for it. The various solo passage hand-overs in the slow movement are splendidly played with considerable virtuosity. The nuanced emotional aspect of the interpretation is palpable.

Here in Spain we have good musicians and orchestras, despite the opinions of some morons (not many, certainly) who think that Spaniards are "musical ignorants". In the end, the business is all about ADVERTISING. You know some orchestras because they are all-present all over the world (for an example, Berliner Philharmoniker or RPO) and these ones can overshadow others as our ORTVE, and of course that doesn't mean that they can't offer us wonderful renditions as this.

Brilliant performance, deeply satisfying....and congratulations to the video direction for not spending half the time looking up the nose of the conductor. I appreciate conductors are important but surely most people want to watch the players as they produce the music, rather than the obsessive concentration some videos have on the sweat rolling down Gergiev's face or the grimaces of Semyon Bychkov. This video seemed to me to have the balance exactly right. Wonderful.

A pleasant-sounding performance with many good solo spots. However, the camera production went a bit overboard (imo) in its peripatetic scrambles to stay in sync with the music - WAY TOO BUSY. I would recommend just listening to the music and minimizing the window.
