Just took the NREMT Yesterday waited all day, got a email in the middle of the night. Woke up to EMT CERT LETS GOOOOO!!! This was mh 3rd attempt and it felt like my worst one. GCS is important to know for the test. It’s a lot to remember but eventually you’ll get it down. I think the hardest part is getting the motor function down because it’s a 6 point score. It is used to assess brain injury towards the bottom of the scale whereas decorticate (flexion) is a 3 and decerebrate (extension) a 2 indicates a closer to the brainstem injury.
Your content is awesome. I passed my NREMT on my first attempt from a course I took, pocketprep, and your content. Your content helped me most understand how to answer the exam questions. Thank you! I plan to continue using your content to stay current and not have to lose all my knowledge.
What confuses me is sometimes with a “witnessed cardiac arrest” the answer in the test prep apps is to immediately shock with AED. But then there are other questions (I notice trauma is a common theme) that says start compressions immediately.
FYI: I may not be the first person to mention this but Pennsylvania EMS Protocols states: if a Pt becomes unresponsive, apneic, and pulseless in the middle of a transport the EMT should apply the AED first , before chest compressions. If the arrest was not witnessed by PA-EMS, chest compressions should ne the first action. However, PA EMS candidates must pass the NREMT before getting there PA EMT.
The Limmer NREMT Exam Prep app states that if you see them go into cardiac arrest in front of you to attach the AED. If you do not see them, then initiated immediate CPR. Which on is it brother?😢

Hey! im new to this channel and im currently studying for my NREMT coming up, and I was confused by the second question regarding CPR. On page 562 of Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured Advanced Package 12th edition, it says the correct choice is A if im not mistaken. Under Words of Wisdom subtitle it states, “If you witness a patient’s cardiac arrest and an AED is available, then deploy the AED immediately and then begin CPR. However, if you did not witness the patient’s cardiac arrest or if an AED is unavailable, then perform CPR and apply the AED as soon as it is available. If two or more rescuers are present, one rescuer should begin CPR while the other prepares to defibrillate using the AED.” Can you explain the contradiction please?
My thoughts exactly, because everywhere I see it's always early defibrillation is always first if the option is presented if you have one available but if you don't then it's CPR
You’d start CPR because it’s the quickest thing to do to keep the heart, brain, and body alive. Attaching an AED can be done after especially if you’re running a 2-person crew with you in the back and your partner driving. Early defibrillation is key, but can’t happen unless you’re pumping the heart. It really takes a while for the aed to deliver the shock. You have to bare chest the patient, attach the pads, connect it to the aed, let it analyze the heart rhythm, etc. All of that time could be best spent doing chest compressions and have someone else attach the pads for you
Just remember, when you’re compressing the chest, you are making the heart beat and pumping that oxygenated blood through the heart. The blood contains about 4-6 min worth of oxygen at any given time so there’s still some o2 that needs to be circulated
I have a question. My sister-in-law said that she had leukemia. But, a couple months later she was found dead in her house.. The EMT came in and someone told them she had leukemia. There was no autopsy done. I feel like there was something missing was there?
It’s extremely common. You’ll see a lot of people take it and to the point where someone says they’re a diabetic and then you’re asking if they take metformin, novalog, or humalog 😂

im going to keep using these videos, but i took a 4 month EMT class, and we not once went over metformin. none of that was in our curriculum
Great video. I'm a practicing EMT and watch your videos regularly. I advise my student ride-a-longs to suscribe to your channel.

God Bless You My Brother! Your the Best! 🙏✝️🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Question: Regarding Q#2, if you had an AED at hand once you discovered the patient was pulseless and apneic, would you go AED or CPR first?
Start CPR ASAP and ask someone to attach the aed because we need to minimize interruption for the best quality CPR
Got all three
Nice work!
Do you have an episode on medications for emt’s my class didn’t cover them well
Yes, for EMT studying, especially with medications would recommend the video vault: www.prepareforems.com

AED can't accurately detect rhythm while ambulance is moving so before stopping the ambulance to apply the pads, you should perform compressions
My class didnt mention metformin 1 time the entire semester....
for question 2, why not attach the pads and deliver a shock first? Electricity especially in a witnessed arrest is so important early on, right?

Why would someone on metformin be hypoglycemic? Overdose?
Suicide attempt also to be considered
Metformin is used to lower blood sugar so if that patient took too much he would go into hypoglycemia.
