Opening with “You wanna talk about this show briefly?” on a clip that’s an hour and 10 minutes long is objectively hilarious.
They didn't have time for a short review, so they did a long one instead.
This means the main show is 6 hours long , if 70 mins is a brief discussion
There's so much stupidity that happens in aew on a 2 hour show you can never get through the bs briefly

That's the first thing I thought of. Nothing was better than the aew review where the clip was like 5 minutes long and Jim was just saying I'm not gonna review this shit cuz the show was complete trash and doesn't deserve me reviewing it. Now that was a 8 star review and I don't even think Jim was in Japan!
Swerve lost to Orange Cassidy. Even after hitting his finisher. That’s how terrible Tony Khan is at booking.
Gotta love Tony's idea of how to build talent. Don't spend years making someone look credible. Just give them 20 minutes vs. someone way more accomplished. Build complete! 😔

How do one make multiple wrestlers look credible? Someone needs to be in the midcarder and jobber. There is only so much credibility to go around, as credibility exists relative to other wrestlers. Obviously, anyone on the roster (except for the jobbiest-jobber, i.e. Brandon Cutler or Peter Avalon tier) can beat any "local talent" or no-name jobber. The desire to "protect" everyone is the cause of such things as dusty-finishes, double-disqualifications, and other shenanigans. Basically, these tactics are used to make everyone look "credible" by no-one taking the loss. I would say AEW's worst long-term booking decision was overly protecting FTR against the Acclaimed during the Acclaimed tag team championship run.
The general Angry Old Man consensus is that twenty or thirty guys should all be pushed to be THE top guy at the same time. That just isn't possible, so when you've favorite mid-carder isn't getting a push at the moment, its bad booking or "they don't know how to use the guy."

Oh yeah, Kingston gave away a title shot to Bryan bc reasons.

One of the biggest issues for me about all this is the sheer arrogance and hubris of some AEW fans and of TK. They think they are the pure. The real. They try looking down on any fans who watch WWE. They are indy marks, watching a sandbox for anyone but the top company, driven by a grown ass man living out his 14 year old fantasy with daddy's money

I used to watch with a fan. After BrawlOut I quickly lost interest and fed up with horrible cam work, no build/dropped stories, angles that go no where due to injury, Red Velvet never hitting her finisher, and zombie chants. I've been to live AEW shows and 2019 RoH had more crowd heat than any AEW show. When bringing up these complaints the super fan becomes angry and blames my dislike and criticism of AEW on listening to corny. When I point out low ratings and abysmal gates "they don't matter". It's sad. I used to like watching during the covid era, but as a casual fan I shouldn't notice half the shit I do. I don't watch E either. RoH is horrible.
After the last live show, at the end, the arena emptied so fast, Tony came out to announce more matches. At no time were these matches announced to the crowd until half left.

I feel bad for Corny and Brian having to review this mudshow for everyone’s amusement. They’re barely making fun of this show anymore like they used to, they just sound drained and beyond disappointed at this point lol

20:00 CHIKARA used to use tons of brightly-coloured mask gimmicks, some even similar-looking (Pockets used to be one Ant of an entire Colony), but they made it work by putting the latter in factions and making the former distinct with gimmicks. Like in kids' cartoons. AEW can't even seem to manage that.

The Briscoes vs FTR 3 was the last time I seen someone set up a table and intentionally not use it lol I loved that- it for the crowd to stfu and afterwards they didn’t even notice bcuz the match was so fuckin good!

Overt Comparison: WWE was putting on a match NOBODY wanted, fans were vociferous, and legion, so they pivoted. All Friends Wrestling is putting on a match NOBODY wants (Sting & Young Cucks), no alterations, no pivot, no NOTHING. Well at least they'll have their best domestic gate in quite some time. It's actually sad, as AFW went from liked underdog, to being rooted against. It all lies at the tiny feet of Tony Con.
The reason Sting is facing the Young Bucks is largely because the Young Bucks are the only plausible tag team that could beat Sting & Darby Allin, booking-wise. It's meta-kayfabe, which has been the rule since the Attitude era. Maybe Sting and Darby Allin will win, maybe the Young Bucks will be transitional champions for a month, maybe the Young Bucks will be champions for 300+ days. The point is that you don't know what will happen, which makes the booking interesting.
Likewise, in 2040, when the next generation's Angry Old Men complain about "Why did everybody in early 2020's AEW job to a 60+ Sting?" the fact that even the Young Bucks lost to Sting would explain that. (But, that is assuming bookers care about how booking decisions look with a decade of hindsight, rather than short term sales, or at best, medium term story lines.)
If they are signing Sasha Banks, she'll be front in center for about a month or two, then she'll be jobbing out to Riho.
Hell they'll have her jobbing out to the damn mop Kenny twinkletoes "fought" in njpw
Remember the days when they were pushing Nyla Rose as the unstoppable 'native beast'? She was powerbombing everyone through tables and brutalising the entire womens division.
Then....Riho proved what it took to be a real powerhouse wrestler. All 99lbs of her took every move Nyla Rose could give, repeatedly, before proceeding to bounce up and bury Nyla Rose forever.
How anybody continued to take the womens division seriously after that fiasco is beyond my comprehension.
Ruby Soho, Athena and Saraya have all blended in and become meh.
I hate AEW but I love listening to Jim and Brian reviewing it!

You know, I got really sick earlier this week for like three solid days - couldn’t keep much down, weak as hell and couldn’t do much aside from lying down and staring at the ceiling and trying to sleep in between bouts of puking and nausea.
During this absolutely goddamn horrific and horrendous time, all I basically listened to was endless clips of Cornette on TH-cam. For some reason this stuff was like the one and only thing my brain could tolerate that didn’t make me feel worse. Which is kind of strange.
Man, cornette would have been such a boon for AEW, if he was overseeing it, i know people would say its easier to poke holes after the fact but with Jim ive noticed how quick he is to notice holes and flaws and he can do things on the fly, just listen to how he would introduce Jacob fatu in wwe
I watched every minute, they did not say how much time was left till it was over. I also knew Jim would give hell about that, because he told them the right way before.
They did announce there were 5 minutes left, even Sockface mentioned I just watch the TH-cam video of the match and around 4:14 I think you could barely hear the ring announcer saying 5 minutes and then Sockface repeated
@@JoseFlores-xc7wu That is meaningless. Jim explained how it is done. You give announcements more frequently of how much time it is left until it is over. Also WWE always has a timer both in the arena and on TV. They make sure people are aware of the time for the entire duration.

I’m pretty sure Samoa Joe was let go from wwe because of concussions. He had to miss over a year of wrestling due to getting two really close to each other. Then they brought him back and put the nxt title on him, and if I’m remembering correctly he got another in his first title defence and had to forfeit the title and then was let go shortly after.
So I think he was in that Danielson bracket of “too much of a concussion risk”
Which if true, asks yet more questions about aew medically clearing people that perhaps shouldn’t be medically cleared..

The commentary team reinforced the entire match that Swerve was the number one contender since he already beat Paige twice. Then they get to the end of the match, and Paige cuts a promo saying Swerve had to beat him to be the #1 contender. What, how would that make sense?

So Aew wrestling is the fourth largest promotion. Ppl watched midget wrestling and are watching impact wrestling alot more. Tony Khan has dropped the ball and he's a con man that the fans can see through. Ppl aren't going to pay 150$ for tickets to see the young bucks beat up jobber's when on raw we can watch Gunther fight Jey Uso or Rhea Ripley argue with Becky Lynch. LA knight cutting a promo on AJ styles on Smackdown. Smh Tony Khan's show is a sinking ship with too many captains and not enough shipmates.

I liked the first Swerve Hangmam match at Wrestledream. Nothing they’ve done since. I understand the Full Gear match was over for ppl who enjoy that kind of stuff but it wasn’t for me. And the time limit draw… why? Why not start with draw, then have the big ppv singles match, then the big bloody spectacle match to close the rivalry? Seems ass backwards 2 me.
Because TK books like he worries he will lose the fans so every match has to be this mental crazy nonsense gimmick to keep the fans salivating.
& instead he just leaves us deflated and indifferent towards the whole damn thing.

After a month worth of build up for Lance Archer vs Cody, which includes vignette and promos, Tony booked Archer to have a 50/50 20 min match with Marco Stuntedgrowth as Archers first match on tv😂
They have draws in New Japan all the time, but they have the calls along the way. They use Cornette booking. And it works.
The whole Undisputed Kingdom stable has already lost all its aura and lustre.
Doesnt help that MJF who they turned on is out with an injury for an undisclosed time so the heat is dead.

To be honest aew's ranking system is a joke because in what world does a guy who keeps on losing gets a world championship match? What sport let's the worse team play in their championship game?... None hangman should not even be in the top ten rankings much less get a title shot.
It also forces TK to frantically obsess over results due to the rankings. Remember when the Gunn Club were undefeated on Dark for like a year but never got a tag title shot because TK didnt want to book it over the other match ups.
So you have to book people strategically to win and lose matches in a balanced way without 50 50 booking or rematches just in case you accidentally had Chuck Taylor with more wins than an Adam Page.
If Adam Page loses 3 matches in a rivalry to Swerve, TK has to then book Page to claim a random win against a jobber to get a win back, but then the jobber ends up having another loss in the rankings so if TK wants to book an underdog win, he has to book it against a talent who isnt about to be booked in a title contendership ranking.
Its a minefield.
Adam Page is definitely someone who can do with going away for a year and coming back with a fresh new gimmick and character.

Draws can be a valid booking decision is they are used sparingly, and have a consequence beyond kicking the can down to the next match. They are bad because the fans are promised a resolution to the contest, and a draw is a cop-out. Time limit draws are less bad because at least the viewer gets a reasonable amount of action from the wrestlers. There is a difference between a 30 minute draw and having the locker room storm the match 4 minutes in to create a no-contest.
I was at that show, it was hella fun.
I think being AT a show is a different overall experience over watching it over a series of weeks on television.
Ive been an actor on set in shitty movies but being on set was hugely fun.
