- This weekend we went big. Well. Big-ger. Upgrading the stock worn out turbo on Glen's Isuzu Bighorn with the Mambo turbo upgrade kit. Essentially a bolt in kit with one or two snags, we got there in the end!

Would thoroughly recommend a decent tune to pull as much power as possible. You could probably gain a good 30-40hp with the upgraded size. I’m sure you’ve already considered it and it does not “need” a tune but it would be way cooler with a good tune
In malaysia we upgrade for isuzu 4hk1 rhf55v turbocharges in our 4jg2 or 4jb1. Upgraded fuelpump to 12mm boosted to 40-60 psi reliably
I have the rhf55v in my 4hk1 what do you upgrade it with in malaysia as it seems to run out of puff in the 5.2 L at around 2850rpm im tuned to 120kw 490nm atw on 37's
@@Johnddigga maybe try upgrade to gt35 turbo and a tune. Should give more top end power
I actually considered the 55...but the TD04 upgrade was easier and cheaper. I built my own turbo adapter but there is an online company that sells them from down under...

Hey man, I’ve been looking at doing the same to my 1992 Isuzu bighorn. Bigger turbo, add heavy duty clutch and maybe gearbox tidy up job? Where about are you guys? And roughly what sort of price to look at for doing this?
i also upgrade my turbo that come off a skyline 34 gtr turbo, trust me now it have too much power now, soon make a video for it.

I wasn't, but we had a couple of vapers swing by the shop so naturally I gave them something to do haha.

Still going very well! Just this weekend pulled the manifold to fit an external wastegate so he can refit aircon in time for summer.
Seriously thought it was victory cigar smoke but that makes more sense
@@punkoutnz what was the initial problem with the aircon? internal wastegate actuator rubbing against the ac compressor? asking as i wanna do a turbo upgrade in my rodeo 4jb1t, same ac compressor and all. be sure to wack a video up of the external wastegate install cheers

Hey fellas, nice work. Have been looking at the same turbo for my 4JG2T Jackaroo and had a few questions for you. I take it the issue with the A/C and turbo was the wastegate hitting it? Also, what boost are you running and EGTs are you seeing?
Boost is set to about 20psi at the moment, egts up around 800 if you keep your foot in it, plenty of room for more boost though to be fair. I can't remember what the issue was with the air con, whether it was the inlet or actuator, the turbo inlet is larger than the stock turbo. It's my cousins truck so I'll have a look and see for ya and report back.

Hi, does this conversation help to gain boost at low rpms?
It has slightly more lag than the factory turbo, so increases power more in the top of the rev range.

No update sadly, NZ has been essentially closed for the past 6 weeks due to covid19 so I haven't even seen my cousin for that time due to social distancing laws. Once restrictions ease we will be doing some work on it though.
@@punkoutnz all has calmed down now im in nz aswell and have a 3.1 looking at doing the same
Yeah things are good now. He has installed an external wastegate ready to reinstall the aircon for summer (the internal actuator doesn't fit with the outlets of the aircon lines). Other than that the truck is still running absolutely great. We've done a couple of good road trips in it and it just hauls along, love it!

Yep! If you run an external wastegate you can keep the aircon, it's just the actuator for the internal wastegate that fouls on the aircon outlet pipes. That's actually the next mod we plan to do to this truck.

Is it a custom pipe or is it already bundled with the purchase of a turbo?
The turbo "kit" only comes with the turbo, oil feed and return line stuff, it will bolt up to the factory downpipe (although we changed this one to a custom design) but everything else needs to be made or modified. The intake was easy as you can see but modifying the inlet for the intercooler to fit was a bit of a hassle.

Does incressing the fuel makes turbo louder?
Not really no, the intake noise you can hear is from a 3" intake to a pod filter, the factory airbox is designed to make it quiet so if you are still running that, that is why you can't hear the turbo.

What were the only issues?, I’m looking at doing this swap soon
The main issues are the compressor housing fouling on the aircon compressor hose fittings, so basically the aircon has to come out, or at least the hose fittings need to be removed. The intercooler also won't bolt work unless you weld a 45 degree inlet pipe to it. With the kit we got there was also an issue with the oil feed adaptor being wrong. All minor things but they do add time and cost to the project and if you are planning to attempt this in a weekend like we did, can add complications if parts stores are closed.

It won't let me post links so I've given up on that but if you Google search mambo turbo it should come up with what you're after. Bear in mind this was more than 2 years ago so their models have likely changed.

do your self a favour and install a 3 port boost solenoid and a 2 port waste gate . im set to 16psi and it performs realy well in the tf rodeo which has the same motor as the bighorn
Hey mate, I got a custom built TD04L-13T from turbocare in NZ, how responsive was yours? I still havent put mine in yet
@@chrisgentle475 response is great they pick up real quick. compared to the factory turbo it'll be like a rocket. also look into having the exhaust ports done it'll help keep the egt down a bit better .
@@bommy673 Do you mean port matching to the exhaust manifold? or actual head porting?
