This isn't a formal ascot though this is what would technically known as a day cravat. He said that this would be good at a formal event, but this is the informal ascot.
I am afraid that you are only partly correct.
He is showing the tying of a Day Cravat - which is leisure-wear.
This is *nothing* like an Ascot - which is tied quite differently, and is formal day-wear.
