I started wearing ascots a few years ago during my time in Vegas . I love them but often would get weird looks especially when I wore them with my captain’ hat

You would never wear an ascot with a tuxedo. An Ascot, generally tied like a long tie would be worn with morning dress (Formal wear for the day). I also think you are a little cavalier about he advice you give. There are quite a few occasions where a tie is appropriate and an ascot is not. Worn, the way you guys are wearing it, it is definitely a more casual look. Appropriate with a sports coat and slacks, but not really with a suit... and not for business meetings. If you wear it with morning dress or a stroller (rarely seen outside of weddings in the USA), then it is more formal than a suit, but worn under a shirt, its appropriate for occasions where a tie is optional but you want to look a bit more put together.

Quick question, would it be appropriate to travel with an Ascot? Perhaps on a plane? I could see this for sure on cruise. Your thoughts?

Tips on what to wear with an ascot? The button up is a given, but with what? A suit? You said it was one of the more formal of the casual articles of clothing. I normally wear a black blazer with dark undistressed jeans and a white shirt with french cuffs, with 2 buttons undone. Could I wear an ascot with this?
Daniel Eberbach any situation you would wear a tie you can wear an ascot. It's just an alternative accessory that lets you stand out a little bit in a good way.
lol yall talked about 3 ways more than really show 3 ways. but there are many ways.
1: the way you did just tying it once and draping.
2. see above but you take one end and tuck it under and over
3. four in hand like regular tie, and take the back and under and over it on top the knot (adds more volume to the acot)
and if you want more, there's another using pratt/windsor even bigger knot esp if you wearing it closed.
also you can just wear it without tying, just like some people do at parties with bowties to show they know how to tie it... I go out with it untied and just across my chest that matches with the outfit (pants or shoes , cufflinks etc) but i don't wear many blazers or suits so those are with nice dress shirts usually
So I have a strange tie that was given to me and I don't know what it is. I have been wearing it like an ascot but I don't think it is one. From end to end it's 5'1" long. It's cream colored on one side and black on the other(that I am assuming is for the ability to change depending on formality of the function) Rather than a traditional triangular end, it cuts across at a diagonal. The material is extremely thick and seems to be a polyester mixture. The ends are 2.5" wide and taper to 2" wide in the middle. any help is appreciated :)

Hey guys, was wondering, can i wear an ascot/cravat with a cummerbund together?
So far so good but the knot was wrong. For the smaller version, the longer piece has to be made two times by the shorter one, otherwise it will slip too easily.
Could my suit be dark and my dress shirt be black with little white detailing could I wear a bright ascot with it ? Or does the shirt have to be plain
