Does Kevin Stefanski have the power to bench Deshaun Watson or is Jimmy Haslam making that call?

      I don't think either one will be fired after this season, Kevin Stefanski is the reigning coach of the year, he will be given at least one more season to fix things. But I think that their chief strategy officer will have to chart a different strategy after this season. They might have to go back to drafting and developing players and get rid of the high priced players that are underperforming. If the Browns are sitting at 1 or 2 wins by trade deadline, then I think they need to do a fire sale, get rid of every high priced player they can and collect draft picks. It will mean a couple of bad years, but if the Commanders can change their fate, then why can't the Browns. I would be willing to part with Watson, Cooper, Chubb, Bitonio, Teller, Garrett, Wills, Conklin, Emerson, Delpit, Jeudy, Bell, Moore etc. Start fresh with a bunch of high round draft picks and a mixture a middle of the road free agents and just continue to rebuild the team from there.

      Agreed! The entire low IQ Browns Ivy League Brain Trust of Berry, DePodesta and Stefanski need to be walking out of Browns HQ. Don't pack your belongings, JUST LEAVE!!!! It's really a joke that DePodesta had ZERO football experience when he joined the Browns. His entire background is BASEBALL!!! He is/was on the board of directors at Sears so he has experience driving a business into the ground.

      I mean he’s been watching a lot of football all these years as much as we have as much as these guys talking watch and get paid to comment on there’s more to this team that meet eye…we didn’t know they were holes ..but we know now so he actually looks like a promising figure when all the pieces are there or at least some of them that need to be there as true pieces Right now …the tight end and the tailback are all you have to lay your hat on if you wanna move forward with aside from **Miles Garrett and whoever else is on defense, so no, I don’t want to move on from Watson because I mean his arm is still there his feet are still there in & out of the pocket..he’s reading Defense is at a pro level and with the right pieces around it could be one of the special features in the league but the pieces aren’t at the moment everybody hurt or comin of injury , but that’s not Watson fault that’s easy to see from a film perspective. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. Would not be the same players. They are now if they were drafted by Cleveland. They both went to stable organizations with stable coaching staffs. That helped their development at quarterback. Baker had to deal with so many different head coaches, offensive coordinators and GMs. Just in Cleveland alone. Instead of being able to just focus on getting better at quarterback. Baker had to learn new playbooks and new offensive systems.
    Some people act like Mayfield was the cause of all of Cleveland’s problems.

      Exactly… they have no idea how either of them would have played for the Browns. Jackson and Allen have had the same coaches every year (Jackson had a Super Bowl winning coach). Baker had the worst coach in the history of the NFL with Hue Jackson and a not much better Freddie Kitchens). Such a dumb statement by them saying the Browns picked the wrong guy..

    Deshaun Watson now has achieved the lowest EPA (expected points added) per play for a Browns QB in the first 5 weeks of the season in the modern era at -0.30EPA. This number is 50% worse than the previous record holder at -0.20EPA.... Deshaun Watson... last year...
    Also, his 31.2% passing success rate would be the worst mark for a qualified starter since JaMarcus Russell in 2009 and the 3rd lowest mark in the 2000s slotting right in between Jimmy Cluassen 2010 and Akili Smith 2000... those 3 QB seasons accounted for a total of 5 wins between them...
    His 4.7 yards per attempt would tie for the 2nd worst mark for a qualified starter since at least 1976.
    His 26 sacks through 5 games puts him on pace for 88 in a 17 game which would shatter the all-time single season record of 76.

    Allen and Jackson did not have a rookie season as good as Baker's. From their rookie season on, Allen and Jackson had stability and overtook Baker. What Baker's doing in Tampa absolutely would have happened in Cleveland. With Stefanski staying around, Baker would have had the stability he needed to do what he's doing now, and a better defense. Last year's defense with a Baker-led offence would have been in the SB or divisional finals.

    Excellent episode. My take is that Winston should have played the 4th quarter with the score 6-34 at the start of that quarter. That's not a benching but being relieved in a game already lost to avoid any possible injury and give Winston some plays to be more ready for any needed future playing for whatever the reason.
    I wanted Allen over Baker in 2018. The Watson deal after the 2021 season was an overall desperate move by the owner to win now in 2022 or 2023. It was not just a dump Baker for Watson. It was the huge guaranteed contract and 3 number 1 draft picks for a sat out a season malcontent with serious unresolved legal issues and facing a probable suspension of unknown length. That's a desperate move. Funny thing is that in 2017 Haslam could have picked Watson and Mahomes in the draft when the Browns seriously needed a qb.

    5:49 I don't see enough people talking about how DW is the cause of a lot of the ills we are seeing offensively. OL can't block it up, why is that? Well they've had a lot of injuries and tackles haven't been great for sometime. But the reason we are in so much empty/spread is because that's what the qb is supposed to be good at. He can't process it or see it or maybe he neither. The bum can't even switch up the protections at the line in obvious blitz situations. WR's are slow yet when Flacco was in last year we were explosive as hell on offense. Jerry Jeudy ran a 4.4. Are they slow or is it that the qb is the checkdown king? How are are gonna build up speed when he's throwing it 4 yards??? We don't have the personnel, Jason's right, we don't have a QB who can run this type of offense. Which is why we should bench him!!

  • @dougphantom9
    @dougphantom9 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    19:10 I don't think if the Browns drafted Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson they would see anything even remotely close to what they are today. I think Baker was the perfect draft pick. It's almost entirely about development for rookie players rather than their overall talent in college. I'm definitely not advocating talent doesn't matter because it 100% does, I'm just saying putting the wrong type of player in a bad development group and you get what we thought Sam Darnold was and he is doing pretty damn well right now. Baker is the best qb in the league as he is down in Tampa. It's not just draft position and talent, it has a lot to do with the front office and behind the scenes/player staff.

Either on the bench or at home collecting $94 million for doing nothing! After all there is a questionable history with the Texans.

And you need to know if he has long term skill set. Need a private meeting with a couple of senior players: Myles and Joe Bitonio, and talk about options at this point.
