    Not all "fakes" are equal, of course. I use a good quality "fake," but it doesn't seem to affect the quality of brushing.

    • @ElectricTeeth
      @ElectricTeeth  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is to some degree true. Difficult to find the best fakes though....
      Even then they probably don't round the tips of the bristles off or have indicator bristles.
      The benefit is there is choice for all and as long as everyone is aware then thats great.

    I got tricked with fake Crossaction heads on ebay. The packaging is spot on but just a little different bc they say they're made in Russia or Germany. The brush makes a rattle noise when in use sometimes, the little plastic ring is really hard to put on, and the blue bristles are longer than the white ones in the center. The head isn't totally pushed down after brushing and looking at it beside my real one, from the back, the round part that holds the bristles is a little bigger on the fake, and the logo is darker gray like in your video, as well as the bristles being splayed more loosely and several other things you mentioned. I immediately noticed the bristles felt very different too, longer and less firm.

    What he said about the differences turned out to be true. I bought cheap ones on eBay and genuine ones from yodobashi camera in Japan. Except one thing about the little circle of the fake brush, it was right next to the Oral-B logo.The genuine one is more stable and lasts longer in my opinion. Although the real products are more expensive compared to the fake ones if you buy the package for 7 brush, it's only 2600yen, which is about 26 bucks. Thanks for sharing this great video!

    Fakes are dangerous the brush falls off in the middle of cleaning and you can stick the metal in your face I've done this twice now and drawn blood both times from above my lip. Bloody hurts too! I got them from eBay, they said Oral B so remember if the price is to good to be true it probably is so you'd better order plasters with those heads guys!...Ouch.

    I have original Oral B brushes with 3 holes in the back, some of the "fake" brushes have loose brush heads which wobble from side to side.
    By "fake" I mean brushes sold in Oral B packaging which sometimes turn out to not be very good

    As much as I don't appreciate sellers faking generic replacements for original, I also don't believe the original are any better. Of course you might find very crappy generic ones, but it's easy just to find a good replacement and stick to it.
    I tend to replace it way often than recommended (every 3 months, are you serious? NASTY!!!!!! I do it at least monthly!) therefore finding cheaper option makes sense.

    The fakes have clearly gotten better since this video was posted 7 years ago. Bought some on Amazon and the packaging was spot on. Many of the genuine characteristics that are pointed out in this video have been replicated in my fake . The only reason i realised mine were fake was because the brush was not changing colour after 4 months use

      Thanks for the comment. Whilst some of these still hold up in certain cases, there has certainly been significant improvement in the fakes available on the market today.
      Some brush heads, even the genuine ones don't have fading indicator bristles, particularly the new iO Series models.

    • @braddersj3511

      @@ElectricTeeth well that's the thing, I'm looking at some ones that are from eBay and all the points you covered are included on these including the dimples at the top and on the front as well as the logo being properly printed!
      I'm nearly of the opinion that they are real, the only thing that I've noticed is: there seems to be a small seam at the back and the rubber floss bits are very loose and one seems to have broken in half after just a months use.
      To tell the truth, all this time I thought they were real! I only decided to look very closely after a comment on HUKD that basically all eBay Oral B replacements are fake.
      Definitely something that requires further investigation as I've been buying fake things all my life so I'm better at spotting these things than most and these had certainly fooled me

      @@helpnoname7588 probably fake brushes. Fake Canon cartridges, if they're the kind that use 2 inks one black one colour, are rebuilt from original Canon inks. You can see where they sand out the logo. They just put a new chip on them, change the foam inside and fill with ink. So the plastics are the same since it's original.
      Tooth brush heads would be all new plastic and mounding. Though within the generic industry there would be good quality and low quality like everything.
      I'm sticking for now with generic inks and real brushes. It's worth the investment for me, especially on sale or at Costco or something. I had braces and work done to get my teeth and bite correct.

By removing the brush head and facing the the brush head upside down underwater so water would go inside the brush head. Then the brush head won't get stuck on the brush handle at all.

    In late 2019 I suspect I bought fake ones from Shavershop (again, first time was in 2014). The filament was softer and the coloured ring did not snap on as tightly as the genuine ones. I haven't seen any articles on the internet that discuss what I have noticed. There was also a tiny gap at the bottom (below the coloured ring) when inserted onto the handle and the logo was lighter.
    I will soon buy some new brush heads from Myer and compare them against these.

    Some great fake ones out there. I just bought 8 off Ebay for $15 and did the comparison with your video. The differences are so easy to miss if you don't take the time to compare. You should also compare the "give" on the spin with your fingers rotating side to side. The tension is completely different - more ease of spinning with the original. Hope that doesn't interfere with cleaning as I'm not going to return these fakes. Not worth the hassle. Packaging printed Made in Germany so I called Oral B customer service and went over product numbers and all and she felt I had originals. Then I found your video. She was wrong. I thought maybe old stock as the color of the boxes was off. Bristles are bluer on the original than the fake (sensitive clean heads). Also, feel the ends of bristles with your fingers by stroking them downward. Different. Thanks for the video by the way.

      @@ElectricTeeth I actually called Oral B/Braun here in the U.S. and she looked up the product number and what I had were replacement heads for UK, not US and therein are the differences. Slight, but enough to make me skeptical. The fit was tighter; hardly noticeable other differences but bristles were less bright in color and had a rougher edge. SO, who knows but the packaging was so detailed and legit looking I'm going to use them and hope not to FEEL a difference. Thanks for following up. Maybe your video could mention UK or European vs. American "could" be legitimate differences? Even though they are all made in Germany? So go figure.

    • @ElectricTeeth
      @ElectricTeeth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Deb.
      As far as I am aware, there are no real differences between UK/European and US brush heads. Sometimes they have slightly different names, but this I believe is marketing related more than anything else.
      I guess the colors in the bristles can be less intense or slightly different, especially if they are made in different factories. I don't know if they are or not, but they could be., This said, you would like to think there is some uniformity.
      The fact that the Oral-B rep said they were UK instead of US, gives some extra confidence to me that they are genuine as seller can trade stock internationally, although I imagine Oral-B would prefer they didn't.
      Thanks for commenting, these bits of feedback are really helpful.

    Good review on the differences between the genuine & fake Oral B brush heads. But, you missed one HUGE FLAW with the fake brush heads - when you put the brush in your mouth, the fake brush heads slow down considerably, & some of them can actually stop moving entirely. I bought myself a Sonicare toothbrush over the holidays after having used a Crest Spinbrush for many years, & a month later decided to try the Oral B Pro Health battery powered brush, just to see if I was missing out on anything. Just in the past month, I bought some Oral B generic brush heads by Oliver James from Amazon to have replacements on hand. I already watched your videos, so I knew full well these were fakes & thought I knew what I was getting into. Of the 20 pack I bought, 8 of them have this problem. For this reason, for anyone wanting to buy a electric toothbrush & use the fake/generic brush heads, I can no longer recommend Oral B & hands down recommend Sonicare. The generic Sonicare brush heads were nearly as good as the genuine Sonicare heads - so I will be sticking to them. For anyone that wants a Oral B style rotating brush head, for this issue with the fake brush heads & the cost of them, I will highly recommend Crest Spinbrush over the Oral B, as their genuine brush heads cost much less than Oral B's genuine brush heads, & deliver similar results.

    I emailed Oral B/Braun in North America and the only informative response I got regarding real or fake was this: You can perform a scratch test on the brush head to help determine if it is an Authentic Oral-B product. Using a coin, scratch across the brush head’s Oral-B logo. Do not use a sharp object to perform scratch test. If the logo does not scratch off it is authentic.

      I just tried this on my suspected fake heads and the logo did not scratch off. Nobody cares about logos scratching off, or how many dots it has. All we care about is a good replica or fake that brushes as well or pretty close to the original, because the original brush heads ARE RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE. These things cost like 5 cents to make and are sold for $10+ each! THAT'S A MASSIVE RIP-OFF. Replicas are no different than refilling ink on printers - everybody does it (unless you are doing professional printing). So why not do a video on recommended replicas ... but I doubt you will do that. Too much bias my friend. We want good enough for cheap.

      We are not saying you should not buy replicas. There are some excellent ones out there that we are more than happy to promote and advise people to use.
      However replicas that do not brand themselves as official are quite different to true fakes/replicas that use the Oral-B branding.
      As this video title and contents suggests, this explains the difference between real and fake. It is quite different to buy good quality replicas and what you think are originals but turn out to be fakes. We do not want people to be cheated. We are merely trying to help people understand the difference.
      The problem is that some fakes are poor quality and can be potentially dangerous.
      It is a shame that you will downvote the video for that, but that is of course your choice.

" ==> in this case you should make clear which ones are the SAFE ones to use and which ones are NOT SAFE. Right now, your video suggests this is an advertisement for the official brand, thus biased, even if this was not your intention. For instance at the very beginning you state that one can be "duped" into buying fake brush heads, suggesting that ALL fakes are a rip-off, while we all now that the official brand over-price their brush heads (as Printer companies do with their toner cartridges, as Whatever already stated). Hence, a new review, please! In the meanwhile, long live the good & safe replica head brrushes!

      +What Ever I don't get it... You have to replace those heads once every 2/3 months, buy a pack of 5 original ones on Amazon for cheap (around $30) and you are good for the whole year. In the end of the day you spent 6 bucks every 3 months, that's quite cheap don't you think?

      A small family only needs 1 or 2 electric toothbrush handles. They can all use their own brush heads and share the handle. So in that sense, the business model for an electric toothbrush is kind of like home printers. They know families won't buy an entire toothbrush for each person, you they sell the brush heads at an expensive price.

    Shouldn’t my brushhead be feeding to White after three months of use? I bought some legit Oral-B brush heads off of Amazon, and have bought them before Where are the blue starts to fade to white after so long indicating you need to get a new brush head, but these are not feeding at all. They’re in Oral-B packaging and look exactly like your REAL brush heads in the video.

      Lacie. Yes, usually genuine Oral-B brush heads has blue bristles which essentially fade to white over approximately a 3 month period.

      Electric Teeth Yes, I know. I’ve had some that changed after three months however the ones I bought off of Amazon or not, even though they are in oral-b packaging and look exactly like the Oral-B brush head you are showing in your video.

      Some do/have 3 holes in the back of them. This is meant as a guide and you need not take just 1 point as a deciding factor as to whether it is a fake or not.

      They work in the same way as originals normally and generally offer a comparable clean, but you will always get the best clean from the originals.

      @@ElectricTeeth if they are obviously fake will they damage my gums or teeth?

    • @ElectricTeeth
      @ElectricTeeth  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily but possibly. The bristles tend to be rough cut and less soft on the teeth and gums.

    I got stuck with these cheap China knockoffs. If you hold down on the bristles as its running , they don't move.

    Go back to the manual brush. I bought electric toothbrush and binned it after 3 months. Washes 3 times better, I don't think so. Dentists should stop pushing electric toothbrushes.
