    The way Ryan peels off the packaging is the complete opposite of how I imagine everyone else opening their Heavy Grail would

    Having gone through dome swapping hell once in the past I've found it wise to leave as much of the keyboard disassembled as possible until each key is confirmed as working via Switch Hitter or the like. The poron gasket is considered optional, right? Less isolation without, but slightly higher profile and a bit less of a fiddly install? Can't wait to see this thing in person!

      Correct about the gasket!

    Absolutely gorgeous and an impressive feat of engineering and design. Do you have any thoughts or experiences with using MX sliders (from the NovaTouch or otherwise) in place of the stock sliders with your housings?

    it is fascinating, will you make a hybrid version in the future? I will definitely order one

    Oldest and most venerated? Do you mean specifically as an enthusiast keyboard instead of a stock one that shipped with a computer or something?

    Oh man I had no idea that this was going to be so limited! Any ideas how long it should last for? Or will be until sell out?

    • @LoverKittey
      @LoverKittey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Likely until it sells out. I would assume he is still doing a couple final runs of metal housings(as technically his newer shop is still putting together a lot of orders atm) and a few polycarb housings. But as far as full keyboard housings he is not planning on doing housings for any more topre boards like the full size 104/105/107 or future rehashings of any boards(ala norbaforce 4 for some random screw hole update or if a new HHKB pro4 comes out). He is potentially likely to release the polycarb housings at his leisure as he has done them for holidays in the past. I wouldn't be surprised at an urbi et orbi edition for the HHKB at some point next year, but I also wouldn't hold out on it.
      The only other topre-related project he is doing is a realforce 23u housing which is not for a full keyboard and will likely be very low quantity for only his most diehard supporters and is still in the 3d model phase. He seems to be taking some interest in cherry mx but it is unknown if he will continue doing anything further. Feel free to make amendments if my assumptions are wrong.

    Does this work with the Hybrid Pro Type-S variants as well? I read the stems on the Type S are slightly longer to fit the silencing rings and keep the same amount of travel.

    • @ordnance25
      @ordnance25 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are, the type s uses the same plate as the non silenced hhkb

    • @RyanNorbauer
      @RyanNorbauer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Using standard sliders, the keyaps will just sit a bit lower relative to the switch plate: the same distance as the thickness of your silencing rings. If you use the longer sliders, everything should be the same.

    you guys should watch the VOD build of the Heavy Grail from a twitch streamer called UnrealKeyboards, that went through the copious amount of QA issues during their client build.

    • @RyanNorbauer
      @RyanNorbauer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That streamer has already posted to his Discord and emailed me directly to apologize, both because 1) his main complaint-USB port alignment- was due to his own assembly error and also 2) because of the over-the-top hostile emotional nature of his reaction to a few hiccups in a keyboard build. I hate to embarrass the guy, but I actually encourage watching the video because the severity of his meltdown is somewhat self-invalidating in light of the scale of those issues. In any case, if anybody ever encounters an actual QC issue that we missed (it happens!), we always work with clients to fix it, and if someone is ever anything other than delighted with a piece they got from us, we're always willing to take it as a return for a full refund. The other uniformly positive reviews we've gotten (including fully-attributed quotes currently in the product listing) suggest to me that, thankfully, with the exception of this one person, almost everybody seems really happy with the Grail. I haven't yet quite figured out the nature of his obvious animosity toward me personally, but most of my clients simply aren't aligned with him on his critiques of certain design decisions, and others turned out simply to be made in error.

    For the price it should come with a donor hhkb, IMHO
