Great review. Since Pulsar in 2020 (same foam in Ultraglide and many recent models), Salomon has nailed it and I keep going back for their BOA.

Salomon always advertises the Sense Ride as a road to trail shoe, but that’s not how I think of it at all.
If you’re looking for a Salomon road to trail option, I’m loving the Glide Max TR. maybe also the Thundercross, if the trail you’re running to is a bit gnarly.

thanks for the support. usually, people are generally unhappy with my trail shoe reviews. either it's not enough vert, not enough scrambling, not enough water crossings...

@@kofuzi since you don't run trails a ton it's good to have a review from you. I've run in 3 versions of the sense ride and wasn't sure if I'd go back to them again but that review helped me see that they have made some better changes. And I do like pacing system of Salomon shoes so... Keep up the good work👍👍😁😁

So excited to see this review! I primarily trail run and my staples are the Salomon Sense Ride 4 and Mizuno Wave Horizon 5. Not sure about the Sense Ride 5 but the 4 has this thin padding on either side of the heel that prevents heel slippage, while maintaining a wide(r) toe box. Sounds like I need to check out the Aero Glide too

Appreciate the testing in mud. Here in the Midwest we have Dec-Apr cold muddy conditions. Wondering why brands aren’t making more winter waterproof trail shoes? For my weekly 10k trail runs in cold wet weather, I really would rather avoid muddy water in my shoes, even if it does drain out. Am I alone in wanting more Gore Tex - Waterproof winter trail shoe options? I don’t see any options from my fav brands Asics, New Balance or Altra. Just bought my first Saucony: Perigrine13GTX but nervous they’re too narrow. Salomon shoes are great, generally too high of a drop for me (knee issue). Hoka Challenger not mud lug aggressive enough (just like you pointed out)

I love my saucony xodus ultra runshield version. Ticks all the boxes you mention. I live in cold wet climate for 6 months of year , used to dealing with wet cold muddy trails nov through April . These appear to be on sale now as well :-)

Because your feet will get wet via your lower legs, ankles and socks. If you really want waterproof, you’re better off with waterproof socks and taping them to the lower legs.

The lace garage "idea" is great but the execution is not. They put the laces right across the top of the garage thus hindering the access. Anybody have any tips on easing this process?

  • @bilgyno1

Had the exact same Sense Ride 3 and now the exact same Sense Ride 5 colours. Then bought the Sense Ride 4 Goretex. All are very well built and the sizing fits me very well. They're not very bouncy, so it comes down to building up your running form correctly. Added a pair of Saucony Endorphin Edge for interval work and maybe races next year, but they have a huge toe box (had same size Saucony before and they were perfect). Also the build quality seems worse than Salomon Sense Ride. Overall, I'd get last year's Salomon Sense Ride for the regular training runs and they'll last you for a long time.

This is a joke, right ? Wet grip of Contragrip is average, I had quite some different Salomons (Sense Mantra 2, Sense Ride 1/3, Ultraglide, Speedcross 3, Pulsar Trail, Sense Pro Max, etc ) and not 1 of them was anything special in wet rock, stones...by the way, this is Common Sense in Germany

I just tried these shoes on at the store and I didn't like it immediately. I didn't like the lack of softness in the forefoot-I'm running a duo trail/road 50k and I knew it would not give me a a smooth comfortable ride. I went over and tried the Hoka Techton x2 and oh boy-it was awesome and it was awesome this morning on my 22k trail run!
