I'm in love with this girl. My grandma just gave me her old sewing machine and I couldn't find videos explaining with old models. Literally saved me, God bless you 🙏🏻
I have a Singer 247 from the 70s. It may be old, but it's a workhorse with so much power that others lack. This machine will last through many generations. Thank you for this video 😊
So informative . I've watched this video every single time I've set up my mom's sewing machine just to make sure I did it right . Lots of LOVE ❤❤❤ 🙏🏼 - January 20, 2022
I swear companies should invest in video instructions like these. They would save a lot of money. Plus, no one likes to read paper manuals! Thank you so so much!
As a novice to sewing machine, I was able to get my second-hand Singer sewing machine going after watching your video. I have to say the Singer instructions were not well written, but you are articulate and your instruction is much easier to follow. Thank you for sharing.
Inherented this machine from my mother, and thanks to your kindness, I can have it up and running again!brings back a lot of memories, I'm so thankful, wish I could give you a hug!much love from me and my teary eyes!❤
best tutorial ever, your the only person who explained it well enough, I was able to thread my machine for the first time ever and I didnt make any mistakes!
Thank you! Blessed are the people who make useful youtube tutorials, for theirs is the gratitude of all!!! I have the exact same make, but I got it second hand so I didn't have the user's manual. I searched and searched and finally found this video that explained everything so perfectly!
Thank you for detailed explanation. I just have got a "broken" Singer-368 sewing machine trough the Craig's list. Year of production 1978. The AD in Craig's list said, there was a problem with back thread tension, and that is why the machine was given for free. When I got the machine, it looked like brand new, like it was never used. So I suspected, machine was good but previous owner (who inherited it from her grandmother) just didn't thread it properly. There was one part missing (the bobbin) which i have bought for $3.99 for 5 pieces. I have found your video and carefully followed your instructions. Now that machine is up and running very well. I am a 68 y.o. male, retired RN and I am not going to use machine very often. I jut have few projects in my mind (one of it is making a vinyl cover for my grand piano). Surprisingly, this machine is capable to sew together two layers of vinyl, because it is old, heavy and "all metal" (no plastic parts). Thanks again.
I had to watch many confusing videos in Arabic since I'm an Arab until I came across yours!! It was a real help. I'm new on this and the way you explain was "very" clear. Thank you.. I hope you have other videos for beginners showing how to start sewing
thank you! I couldn't for the life of me figure out what I was doing wrong...that bobbin messed me up, my machine is about 18 years old and I was scared that I wouldn't find a tutorial - so glad you posted this- huge help!
My daughter got a Singer sewing machine years ago and hasn't been able to use it cause she didnt know how to thread the bobbin. I've never done it before, I literally did it the first time watching you!!! NO BULLSHIT!! I'm not into sewing at all, but I really feel like i accomplished something today!! Woo hooo! Thanks singer sewing lady.
Hello The Rockin Hottie, I just want to say thank you so much for providing this tutorial video regarding the 534 Singer Stylist. I couldn't find help on how to use my sewing machine at all. You are a true blessing! Thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I did what you did and watched a bunch of, "how to thread your machine" videos that weren't just unhelpful, they were downright demoralizing. With your video I got it working on the first try! So thank you. Forever.
I got an old sewing machine by my parents from the late 80s. There is no instructions to be found online and Couldnt find a way to correctely Set it up since my model is exactely like yours. The other videos on here use models that spin differently. Thanks a lot I finally know how to entangle that counterthread. This is why i love TH-cam so much.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IM SO GLAD THIS WAS ONLY THE SECOND VIDEO I CLICKED IF I HAD TO GO THROUGH THREE HOURS OF VIDEOS TO FIND THIS I WOULD HAVE JUST GIVEN UP. THANK YOU SO MUCH NOW I ACTUALLY KNOW HOW TO DO IT ON MY OWN YOU ARE AN AMAZING PERSON KEEP DOING WHAT YOURE DOING!
Just got my sewing machine the other day as a gift and I was completely clueless as to how I needed to set it up to be able to actually use it. This has helped me so much! Thank you!!!
***** you should be able to wind a bobbin without the needle going up and down, but If you get into sewing look for a singer 201 model they work so much easier and are so much better
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I filled and threaded(?) the bobbin yesterday and was so proud of myself... but then I started having troubles with the tension (the bottom thread kept showing on top of the fabric) and I couldn’t figure out how to set the bobbin tension correctly... turns out I actually didn’t install the bobbin the right way (a bit less proud now haha) and your video showed me what I had missed. Anyway, long story short: you saved me a lot of frustration ♥️
I don’t know how many videos I’ve seen on TH-cam, your videos is one of the best so far I’ve seen. I liked the fact that your camera person was very good with zooming in. I was about to throw my sawing machine out the my backyard door. Thank you! 😊
I'll give you a tip. When you are threading the bobbin, you don't go through the hook. If you do, it crosses back over itself and it shoots off like it did in the video. You actually just go around the round screw that is at the base of the hook. If you pause at 1:01 you will see a blue-ish flat head screw, you wrap the thread around that (when threading the bobbin). Other than that, great video, it was helpful for the part I needed. Thank you!
Omg!!thank you so much hun. i went to a used furniture store to find a ironing board, and walked out with the same exact sewing machine that was attached to a desk where the door opens out and keeps the fabric from falling to the ground ,but i could not get it to work i tried everything, watched videos, read the manual and nothing until you, i'm so excited i 've had this for over a year and finally can play around with it. thank you once again!!! ps the close up really helped, other people's videos were so far away, also don't pay attention to the negative comments, bc your way of doing helped a lot of people, and it works. i don't understand why all these so called experts are watching your video than telling you how it should be done kinda funny bc if they know how it's done than why are they watching your vid????????!!!!!!!
yes! i've been trying since last night to sew something for my mother and i couldn't sort out why the bobbin thread didn't do what it was supposed to. thank you for explaining so clearly why it didn't work! you made my day :)
Received this sewing machine as a gift with no sewing experience or instructions, but a lot of curiosity and determination. Thank you so much for your video! It helped me a great deal and I managed to make my first tentative lines. :)
I'm having problems to setup the machine and can't get it right every time. What i like about this video is, you describe it in your normal tone and it's very comforting.I can't wait to try! You should upload more tutorial videos on anything related to sewing. I'd be the first to subscribe! TQ so much!
Oh my goodness. God bless you. May your dreams come true. May you have the happiest live ever. Because you, just helped me on finishing my school project. May God bless you lady. Thank you.
Yes - the two corrections that are mentioned in comments below are correct: 1) On the wheel, first loosen/turn the center knob (clutch) counter clockwise to disengage the needle/shank while filling an empty bobbin with thread. Just hold the wheel with left hand while you turn the center clutch with right hand - it will only turn about a half or a quarter turn. 2) Guild the thread from the spool and then around the "disk" (not the hook). The little 'disk' separates from the base/mount. This is where the thread is fed. You can feel the spring action that holds the disk onto the base. This spring action holds the thread in place under the disk. It also guilds the thread up and down the bobbin to help fill it evenly. Don't forget to tighten the clutch back after you fill the bobbin. Loved the video and sew happy you inherited the machine rather then having it end up in the scrap pile. The older machines easy outlast the newer ones. This model does have a few plastic gears. My husband is currently refurbishing this same model (we found in a shed at my Mother's house. The original plastic gears were brittle and crumbling but he was still able to order new ones. He found the parts manual and the owners manual (free download) online. Have sew much fun with your machine!!
Teaching myself to sew on an old singer 368 that was my grandmother's. The manual for it was lost of course 30 or so years ago. You're video was a life saver and very easy to follow! Thank you! :-)
All I can say is thank you, for a newbie who is just getting the hand of machines, this video made understanding and setting up the machine super easy😍
Thank you so much! I’ve scoured the internet looking for someone to tell me where to put the bobbin and you’re the only who actually helped. Thank you!
Thank you, I bought the machine second-hand because I wanted the lovely table it was in but it seemed a shame to just dump the machine. I downloaded a manual but it was not very clear and I spent ages this afternoon trying to thread it from the instructions to no avail. Your video solved the problem in just a few minutes, thanks again.
Thank you soooooo much for making this video. I could not find a single other video that was helpful enough for me to get it. I went from a brand new digital sewing machine that belongs to my parents to an older version of the singer than you currently have and was clueless. You saved my sewing!
Thank you kindly, I just picked up a Singer 6110 in great shape at a yard sale for $15.00 but with no manual. Following your instructions I now know it sews and I got a bargain.
My mom bought me this sewing machine at a yard sale after telling her how much I wanted one lol but we both have no experience with sewing, this vid was super helpful thank you !!
thank you so much.. my mum had this muchine for over 20 years never used.. she did not know how..with your help now i can ...thanks again.. you are great
This video was super helpful! I watched 2 other videos before this with no luck and was ready to give up, but this one made it click! I got the machine up and running and completed my first project :) back for a review today to start something new!!
Thank you so much for this video! I watch it every single time I thread my machine. I sew sporadically, so I forget how to thread the machine properly every time.
Well I messed about for ages with that tensioner bit at the front before I found this video - Most new machines seem to have a simple slot the cotton slips into and videos don't describe that spring tensioner because presumably its hidden. Thanks for a simple and concise explanation - worked perfectly for my Frister & Rossmann Cub 4 I just bought to get started, its pretty much the same set up. Great job RockinHottie.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I got my very first Singer (model no. 247) it's not my first sewing machine BUT my first big normal stronger machine (my other machine is called a "Sew & Sew" I love it my quote exactly was, "So incredibly EASY, my 6 year old son was sewing" and cutest machine but not extremely strong like the Singer) your video was the only video that showed me how to thread with that knob with the numbers on it, (the little wire that you can move) the rest I knew how to do luckily but I was so worried I wouldn't do it correctly and screw up lol grateful for your video thanks so much again!
Thank you so much for this video. I really didn't know how to install the bobbin and your video really helped. I always have my mom to help but she wasn't here this time to help. Thank you again.
YES! Thank you so much, I have been trying to thread my machine for so long. It's from the 80s so it's different than a lot of the newer models, but this tutorial helped me SO much! Thank you!!!!!!
you are the best!!!! my mom gave me a sewing machine she tried to explain it over the phone but it didnt work out. thanks for the bobbin trick to flick that switch, that was one of my problems and turning it torwards myself was another thing i neglected todo.didnt have a clue what to do. and for a guy this is the best video ever to get me started. very good thanks so much
Thank you SOOOO much. I swear, it'd take a rocket scientist to figure one of these machines out if there weren't any tutorials on youtube like this one.
I swear your video helped me so much!!! It worked!! I cant believe those simple mistakes that you mentioned at the end made such a big difference! thx a million!! :)
After on and off trying to thread my Singer 5050c for 10+ years using the Singer diagrams that look like an Ogre drew them with an Etch-A-Sketch, I was able to finally thread my machine and take in a shirt and hem a pair of pants in less than an hour. Thank you!
Gorgeous video. You just saved us.Our machine is broken, We got this one but without the manual it's impossible to set up. and this nice fast and to the point tutorial just did the trick. Huge thanks !!!
Thanks so much for this video. I got a hand me down singer that's older than the one you show, but was the same for the most part. I struggled with it for an hour!! I found your video and let out a huge sigh of relief when I saw my bobbin thread pop up. You rock.
Thank you for your wonderful video. I was about to give my machine up, but you give me ways to get it to work. Thank you. Your video with your detailed explanations really helps.
It looks like this video was a a really big help for some new sewers! great job! One word of advice: when you are winding your bobbin, you used the little hook/thread guide. I would highly suggest not doing that (as the thread often break.....too much tension) but instead, just loop it around the button on the same metal plate as the hook. it acts like a smooth pulley type thing and will greatly decrease your chances go breaking a thread during winding! Happy Sewing!!
Great reply Raith and actually that 'button' piece is specifically for winding the bobbin. BTW, when ever I am at the point of turning the wheel to bring up the lower thread, I lightly hang onto both threads. This way, you're assured of a quick catch underneath and then you can pull on the top thread to get it through the needle hole. Happy sewing.
Thanks for this video. As a big dude that breaks a lot of buttons and always needs to hem pants because of the shorter length needed for wearing pants under the belly, I decided to learn to sew. One thing I found in the instructions on the singer website for this model, when winding the bobbin, the thread doesn't go into that hook it goes around the round part with a certain pattern. Dont pay to download the users manual from the other websites, it's free on the singer site.
thank you! I spend 2 day trying to figure it out how to set up my 247 singer machine and I did it in 5 minutes with the help of your video!! thank you thank you thank you!!
Just got my "new" machine last week and finally had time to practice . Your video was the best teaching tool ever! Everything I had found prior to this was completely foreign (and literally sometimes!) Thank you Soo much!! Would love to see more sewing videos from you!👍
Thank you!! I borrowed a 1970's sewing machine, and have spent several frustrated hours trying to get it set up (I haven't used a sewing machine in about 15 years, which doesn't help). The old Singer manuals I've found were either inaccurate or incomprehensible -- now, I might actually be able to use this thing!
Wow finally someone who can explain what I was doing wrong! Not only seems very knowledgeable about sewing and machine troubleshooting, but knows how to make a proper, clear, concise and thorough how-to video. Thank yo so much you have no idea how long I have been trying to figure this out and how many videos I watched. None of the videos I watched showed the llast step of getting the bobbin thread connected to the needle thread. I kept having unbelievable birds-nesting on the undersides. Otherwise the other videos were all failures because they didn't do a good job visually showing the parts they were referring to-you couldn't really see what they were doing as they were doing it. Today is my birthday and I'm so happy to have the gift of knowing how to operate my mom's beginner machine. Hopefully someday I'll graduate to her vintage but really swell Gimbel's (made for now-defunct Gimbel's by Singer I think) machine, thank you so much. Subscribing to TheRockinHottie.
oh my gosh thank you SO much!! this video helped me a ton after inheriting my grandmother's sewing machine without an instruction book. you're the best :)
Thank you for the detailed description. We were having trouble getting the bobbin to catch simply because we were winding the wrong way. Fantastic video and thank you.
Thank you so much! I have an older sewing machine and following the manual was very confusing! I actually got everything set up by watching your video! So helpful!
Super thorough, fantastic close-ups... all in all, a great video. I don't have the same model that you do, but your video was helpful anyway, especially since I have a top-loading Singer, and needed reassurance that my bobbin procedure was correct. Thanks for posting all those years ago!
I appreciate you zooming in; so helpful. A model 4016 was passed down to my daughter. Your machine looks the most similar to ours in comparison to the many other videos I’ve watched. Again thank you for the step by step. Much appreciated. 😌
As a 52 year old male, whose wife doesn't sew, this vid was exactly what I needed to get our old singer up and running. Thanks for posting

I LOVE YOU!!! I still don’t understand how I did it, but I finally did it after seeing your video...I wanna cry!
We were loosing our minds before we found your video. You totally fixed our problem!!!! We can't thank you enough!!!
Inherented this machine from my mother, and thanks to your kindness, I can have it up and running again!brings back a lot of memories, I'm so thankful, wish I could give you a hug!much love from me and my teary eyes!❤
No introduction, just straight to the point and helpful. Thanks!
Hi.. thanks for the help..so helpful
Q
Your a life saver! I just inherited this sewing machine and had no idea how to set it up. Thank you for posting a detailed setup.
thank you very much for very clear, comprehensive and most helpful instructions

I love how this video exists! Life saver for an old school Singer like mine. This was exactly what I needed. Well done!
Also, this sounds silly but how do you sew in reverse? I can't find it in my manual...
Julie Silva Try pressing the button in the center of the large dial on the right.

Hello The Rockin Hottie,
I just want to say thank you so much for providing this tutorial video regarding the 534 Singer Stylist. I couldn't find help on how to use my sewing machine at all. You are a true blessing! Thank you
Oh my goodness, thank you sooo much! I have a very old Singer and was searching for hours how to replace the bobbin! You saved me!

I truly appreciate that you used your frustrations to teach the rest of us. I'm soooo excited to set up my Singer which I got for Christmas 2011!
I was awake at 3:00am and was able to setup my kids sewing machine. I had NEVER setup a sewing machine before. THANK YOU!!!!! :-D
I don’t know how many videos I’ve seen on TH-cam, your videos is one of the best so far I’ve seen. I liked the fact that your camera person was very good with zooming in. I was about to throw my sawing machine out the my backyard door. Thank you! 😊
Thanks RockinHottie, I am a widowed 60+ guy that inherited a sewing machine. With your help I have just taken up a pair of denim jeans perfectly :)
I'll give you a tip. When you are threading the bobbin, you don't go through the hook. If you do, it crosses back over itself and it shoots off like it did in the video. Yes I agree with you, that round part is a tensioner and it is there to make sure the thread on the bobbin is wound up nice and tight. Good catch.

8 year old video better than most new ones. Your explanation was concise, clear and easy to implement. Many thanks.

Yes - the two corrections that are mentioned in comments below are correct: 1) On the wheel, first loosen/turn the center knob (clutch) counter clockwise to disengage the needle/shank while filling an empty bobbin with thread. That was just what I needed after not using the machine for a long long time.
Thankyou my wife was trying to thread the machine came across your video and low and behold she is using her sewing machine thankyou very much
All I can say is thank you, for a newbie who is just getting the hand of machines, this video made understanding and setting up the machine super easy😍

Thank you so much for this video! I watch it every single time I thread my machine. I sew sporadically, so I forget how to thread the machine properly every time.
Great tips!! I couldn't figure out why the needle wasn't catching the bobbin thread and ur tips solved it! Thank you!

YES! Thank you so much, I have been trying to thread my machine for so long. It's from the 80s so it's different than a lot of the newer models, but this tutorial helped me SO much! Thank you!!!!!!
this video was made 8 years ago and it was exactly what I needed I have tried everything THANKYOU
Wonderful! Perfect for a beginner who hasn't learn sewing terms. Explainations are clear and thorough.
you are the best!!!! my mom gave me a sewing machine she tried to explain it over the phone but it didnt work out. thanks for the bobbin trick to flick that switch, that was one of my problems and turning it torwards myself was another thing i neglected todo.didnt have a clue what to do. and for a guy this is the best video ever to get me started. very good thanks so much
Thank you SOOOO much. I swear, it'd take a rocket scientist to figure one of these machines out if there weren't any tutorials on youtube like this one.
God bless you so much. Was struggling with my new Machine and now i came across your video now. Very helpful
No bull. Just what I needed!!!! Thank you so much because this was the last video I wanted to watch before giving up sewing already
Thank you! You just saved me a day of effort figuring this out. Zero to sewing in 10 minutes! :D People like you make the world a great place to live.
Hablé por favor español gracias
Thank you. This was a great instructional video. The demonstrations were clear and slow enough to follow easily. Nice closeups. Thanks again.
I swear your video helped me so much!!! It worked!! I cant believe those simple mistakes that you mentioned at the end made such a big difference! thx a million!! :)
THANKS! I was getting frustrated with that bobbin until I stumbled upon your video:)
After on and off trying to thread my Singer 5050c for 10+ years using the Singer diagrams that look like an Ogre drew them with an Etch-A-Sketch, I was able to finally thread my machine and take in a shirt and hem a pair of pants in less than an hour. Thank you!
Never delete this video! I finally got my Singer to sew without that same tangle of black thread you showed at the start.
You rock.
At last a video that PROPERLY shows how to do the tensioner! Thank you :)
I just want to say that this video has been a lifesaver!!!! Thank you so much!!!! Thank you!
Thank you for your wonderful video. I was about to give my machine up, but you give me ways to get it to work. Thank you. Your video with your detailed explanations really helps.
Thank GOODNESS for this video! I just got this sewing machine from my mother, and I had no idea what I was doing wrong threading it
Thank you very much for the video. You have helped me a lot with it. Greetings from an Uruguayan man living in Ecuador.
Thank you for the comprehensive explanation, you don’t get videos this helpful anymore. Good job!
I'm used to my moms machine and i was given a singer without the instruction book so this was so helpful THANK YOU
Somebody wanted to throw away a singer 377 but I took it home, cleaned it up a bit, found this video and now I'm sewing. Thanks for the basics.
+Raith Anderson you are correct and that is what it is there for it is called a tension guide (she missed that step)
Everything I had found prior to this was completely foreign (and literally sometimes!)
Thank you Soo much!! Would love to see more sewing videos from you!👍
Thank you!! I borrowed a 1970's sewing machine, and have spent several frustrated hours trying to get it set up (I haven't used a sewing machine in about 15 years, which doesn't help). The old Singer manuals I've found were either inaccurate or incomprehensible -- now, I might actually be able to use this thing!
truly a life saver! couldnt find anything on my machine anywhere and yours turns out to be very close, so thanks heaps!
Thank you thank you thank you! My nana gave me her Singer 7108 and I couldn't raise the bobbin thread to save my life before finding your video!
Thank you so much for this tutorial....just bought a singer 427 as my mam had one decades ago. Now we are modding lavvus 👍
Mind = blown, probably the best tutorial on TH-cam, thank you
I was looking for a video to help re-thread my machine and all of them failed to mention that you had to turn towards you!!!
Thank you very much!!
This was vastly more helpful than any other video I have watched on this. Thank you so much.
